Leder 6

JF Schwarzlose has long been a brand I have wanted to try, it having been recommended many times by perfumistas in the know. Aside from Cologne (obviously), one doesn't hear much about German perfumery, Germany being more associated with fine engineering than fine art. JF Schwarzlose started off as a family-owned Berlin chemist in the mid-19th century that soon began to create perfumes for royalty. Given Germany's chequered history, it closed and reopened several times, frequently after prolonged absences. Their modern offerings, released just a decade ago, are based on historic scents from this brand. Leder 6 is my first to try from my discovery set. Leder 6 is a simple, high-quality leather scent, realistic and well-rounded. It is leather-dominant from initial spray - a smooth, Hermès-like leather accord, neither animalic nor woody, featuring resinous amber. Saffron adds ambery spice up top, luxe and perfectly-judged. The osmanthus is an unusual addition - a hazy, peachy floral. It becomes more suede-like as it develops. The creamy vanilla accord adds smooth sweetness, tempering the leather and making it more palatable. The vanilla itself is pleasantly dry, with milk adding rich creaminess - there is nothing syrupy or cloying here. The amber becomes increasingly resinous as it dries down, with dry incense adding some smokiness to the base. Sillage is moderate and longevity is long-lasting. To-the-point and beautifully composed with high-quality ingredients, Leder 6 is a top-notch leather scent, realistic, warm and wearable, comforting rather than edgy. It is perfectly unisex and designed for cold weather. Amber-vanilla successfully dressed up as leather. 4/5.

Wearing it now as i write this... they were so generous to let me try some of their tester at KaDeWe. I was actually waiting for the big bang when i first sprayed it,....but NO I understand their idea about Berlin being such a tolerant city in many aspects ( think about the fetish/sex driven club scene here). but i don't think the guy who wears a leather harness ( see their ads) wears this! cheeky grin ;) For me it is more something of a 50 shades of gray fetish. But anyway,..... I am a sucker for the "light" leather and saffron approach.... well that is what this is all about. velvety smooth suede/leather and saffron taking a vanilla/osmanthus infused luke warm milk bath. Slightly sweet but in a sugar sprinkled way. The incense is tugged quite far away in the scent closet but it helps & gives it this lingering trail and gorgeous aura. As i bought Cuir X from La Parfumerie Moderne last year, wich for me smells 80% similar, i still think i want this one to join me trough winter. At the end, nothing shocking, new, or earthmoving, but sometimes you just want a "friend" whom is always nice to hang out with. Meet your new "friend" : Fetish :)

quintessential leo coded fragrance. one of my favorites of all time. this is art, passionate and sophisticated in its composition. warm, sensual and refined - not sexual. the scent of mystique and allure. quietly confident, yet daring and outspoken. for someone who creates their own individual way of expression. I appreciate that this isn't some cheap copy of another fragrance, like most modern perfumes are, but something of its own. I've worn this scent continuously for 2 years now, and have become associated with it. i literally cannot go without it. I find perfumery to be such a subjective form of art, like most art, and when one resonates with art so deeply, its hard for it not to become a part of their identity, as this one is to me. also, as someone who is into fetish subculture and dresses in latex and leather, this doesn't exactly evoke its intended imagery, however, it stands on its own as a beautiful and unique leather masterpiece, and I appreciate the nod to the culture.

More than leather, I mostly get an acacia honey aspect on the top notes (with that little fermented aspect, if anyone knows what I mean). It is a relatively strange composition. The evolution is very interesting, really brings me on a light, leathery, worked incense, with a very small saffron note that I always associate with plastic/cellophane film, raised by a creamy floral "spicy" aspect (in hollow, rather than in relief) on the bottom. To tell the truth, it gives me the impression of a Tam Dao EDT base on the top notes (more elaborated, with better quality materials, that is to say, better, before moving away from it), on a background of hot spicy whey absolutely not sweet. Complex, dense but light. And at the same time, it also reminds me something of those translucent grandma candies wrapped in crystal paper on the drydown (raspberry, almost, maybe), without me being able to really say why. Very nice, really not disappointed with the series.

A gorgeous, elegant, well-blended perfume. The leather note is smooth and refined, evoking a pair of expensive gloves rather than cowboy saddles or biker jackets. In the opening there is a strong smoky note with a savoury aspect, reminds me of a dirty labdanum. But soon, the sweeter, lactonic notes eclipse the smoke. Leather stays prominent throughout. I agree with others that Leder 6 is not at all raunchy. I like dirtier leathers (like ELDO’s Putain des Palaces or Montale’s Aoud Cuir d’Arabie) as well, but this one is utterly addictive while being wearable in all situations. It’s refined and timeless, and I’m pretty sure I’ll get a full bottle soon.

Blind tested - also did not get leather or saffron (both tend to be more rough and medicinal, often even in niche perfumes.) This smelled more boozy and gourmand to me, slight alcoholic opening but not the bad kind, more the rum / cognac niche kind. Definitely placed it as niche or a good dupe house. And I did guess the styrax only because it's resinous but not in the usual ambery way, it has more of a petrol-esque oomph this note tends to bring. I did not guess the smoke either, but you can feel the vanilla, and overall resinousness. Really good one!

I know it’s a little early but my favorite discovery of the year is this magnificent resinous fragrance It’s a bliss to wear merging leather with saffron and incense it’s a combination made in heaven What makes it even better is how unique this scent is with incredible performance it’s just begging to be worn If you are someone who gravitates towards dark ambery scents that are resinous you must get your nose on this one its a masterpiece of a fragrance although not very known by the masses

Wow! Such an unique beauty! I usually more like soft light suede accords and it's more like a very characteristic heavy, deep, dark & smokey biker jacket leather, but so so rounded by balsamic vanilla and suede & apricot like osmantus. And it's softened and smoothened by floating silky milk. This is a totally unisex masterpiece from Schwarzlose. And in my opinion this is the number one heavy and truly dark leather scent what a women can totally wear as a feminin scent at night.

A beautiful composition. Everything that Valentino Uomo, Dior Homme, Viaggio d'Africa etc wanted to be...this is incredibly well crafted. So delightful and intelligent yet it still has a tiny bit of dirtiness hidden in there. Its grand, effortless, very positive, charming, reassuring and yes, sexy. I get the vibe of leather seats, coffee lingering, sounds of breakfast cutlery, wealth, sunshine, newspaper and well dressed people. The best in its genre!

It's everything you could hope for in my opinion. The leather, vanilla, and incense notes are very powerful and blended very nicely. It settles down with a very nice "milky" powdery sweet leather scent. Milk sounds strange at first, but there's really no other way to describe it. It's just really nice. I'm glad I own a bottle and I certainly plan to buy another after this one runs out.

This is amazing. Very appealing. Leather is not prominent to my nose, despite its name sugests. Slightly sweet, herbally aromatic. From this aspect I find it very very similar to Hommage a L’Homme by Lalique. Lalique is a bit more herbal and less sweet. But they definitely remind eachother. It is very long lasting as well. Whole day on skin, days long on clothes.

Pure Magic. Strangely a bizzare almost tobacco scent thanks to the smoky, vanilla, leather accord. This stuff is amazing. The milky vanilla is otherworldly. The smoke accord adds something to it I can't explain. Very sexy. Just bought a full bottle. It's not easy to find. Super high quality. Moderate performance. Love it.

In the middle of a tropical night, you are wearing leather from head to toe. Underneath your leather vest you have sprayed an ample amount of Ganymede by Marc-Antoine Barrois. You try to cool yourself down by chugging milk out of the carton

What an amazing pleasant perfume. Real beauty, sweat, masculine night our scent. Highly recommended.

I'd swear there's wildflower honey in this...

Oh, nice blend of stuff here, smokey sweet, slightly incensey and leathery. Initial spray has a heavy and near spicey leather opening (due to the sharpness of the leather) and dries off too a nice leather smoothned version with some woody/ smokey scent, pretty unique scent. I understand the kinky concept behind this artistic juice but they kind of failed at it due to the incense prominence at the dry down. It's coming out leathery, incensey, animalic and musky (like a certain white fluid after a long sweaty session and omg after couple of hours it begins to stink like cvm so badd, why put the whole nasty scene in this bottle? lmao), at the end this is coming off more session in the church than in the red room. The drydown will change on skin overtime to this very pungent ANIMALLIC odor mentioned above (intentionally), so keep on the lookout. Nice scent profile, sillage, as well as projection. Second to Zeitgeist on the J.F. Schwarzlose Berlin line for me. Edit: I had a sample of TF noir extreme and the saffron vanilla notes in here and on TFNE are quite similar. I did a 1:1 test and they are basically the same, especially in the opening. But TFNE is more sweet and L6 is animalic and sour on the drydown. In my personal opinion i think i would go with TFNE because throughout the note development stages it stays quiet consistent, and L6 is more of an art than a wearable bottle.

I wasn't into leather fragrances before, but this perfume made me curious. Leder 6 makes me smell grown up, classy and expensive. The smell of leather is exciting, but somehow cozy at the same time. At first I smell just dry, woody, slightly smoky leather, but soon sweeter aromas of milk and vanilla are revealed underneath. I love the fact that the scent is inspired by the leather fetish scene in Berlin, but as others have pointed out, that’s not something to be afraid of. This scent is not particularly challenging or masculine, on the contrary: it's pretty easy to wear as a straight woman. It’s perfect for times when I need a boost of self-esteem. Leder 6 is definitely a winter scent, I can't imagine wearing this in the summer heat.

I get huge leather but soft not harsh. I smell incense and styrax too. I would not have recognized the osmanthus but that sparkles underneath as well. I swear I smell tobacco leaf in the field, not hanging in the barn. I only have a dab sample,so spray might yield more sillage, and it is a skin scent. This is so polite and well balanced.

I get a nice worn in vintage leather jacket at first spray but later in he dry down the spice kicks in & out gets EVEN BETTER! I really like the warmth of this one & with it's amazing quality vs cost to own, i'd say this is a very safe blind buy. I get an easy 6' sillage & the longevity is above average. This gem is right up my alley.

A clean non-challenging leather open that goes warmer with a honeyed amber and smoky vanilla as it dries down. Really elegant, high quality smelling and would probably make a great signature scent for certain gentlemen in cooler weather. Great stuff, definitely FB worthy for my tastes.

The smoke really stands out to me. It's almost overpowering. I like this scent; it's layered, complex, and mature, but I think it's not my style. It's definitely not only a mens' scent though. Ladies who are looking for a mysterious, mature and alluring scent, this is worth a sample.

The leather note is similar in its smoothness to Boxeuses by Serge Lutens, which I love. Osmanthus' apricot-ness also adds to the similarity. Saffron does give me a bit of headache though but not too much. Overall, I like it.

To me I get a lot of cherry, which is not a listed note. Osmanthus is a fruity smelling flower that smells like apricots and apples, but this smells very strongly of cherry to me. Leans masculine, leathery, very supple / almost chewy. Saffron is also noticeable. It is a lot more sweet and fruity than I expected 7.3/10

This is boozy spices to me, with some sweetness. I'm glad I tried it and it's not terrible, but it definitely doesn't live up to my expectations of a perfume inspired by the 1920s Berlin leather and fetish scene.

This is a smooth, leather jacket fragrance. Mix of slightly smoked leather and saffron but smoothed down by the vanilla and milk. Nice fragrance if you like leather forward fragrances.

I just received my J.F. Schwarzlose sample pack and am wearing Leder 6 while watching the basketball game. Offhand, I find it to be a straight forward, pleasant, light-brown leather scent...but it is not blowing me away - especially for the steep asking price. However, there is something interesting about this fragrance that reminds me of the leather smells I used to detect while spending a Summer's day at an old, now long gone, amusement park called Boblo Island on the Detroit River. Perhaps it's the way the leather blends with the notes of milk, incense and osmanthus? I have absolutely no idea what it could be, but I do like it even more for this reason. Anyway, a sweet honey-vanilla accord is starting to push forward in the transition so update my review accordingly after I see how it performs and evolves on my skin. Update: this fragrance performed decently in that it lasted 8-hours and projected moderately on my skin. Overall, I like this fragrance but not enough to warrant a full bottle purchase. But your mileage may vary.

At times like this I think my nose must be broken. I bought a decant from a reputable fragrance site in Germany after reading so many glowing reviews. What I get first is burning plastic with an undercurrent of post-curry underarm sweat. I forced myself to endure this phase until it eventually (after an hour or two) morphed into a non-offensive milky musk. While that was certainly an improvement, it was by no means spectacular enough to justify enduring the nauseating opening. Truly one of the worst things I have ever willingly sprayed on myself.

This is more of a candy delicate sweet vanilla mix rather than leathery fetish! i can sense sweet vanilla and good morning sugar milk, something similar to "Tobacco Vanille" by Tom Ford! or "Tabac Rouge" by Phaedon. From this picture, and the name of the fragrance, i thought it would be something quite sleazy, something more of a kinky, or even erotic rather than sweet candy! I can't deny that the colder it goes the slight leathery it become & slight robbery it goes but it remains quite too sweet for fetish in general, & for fetish concept. Edit (2nd Feb 2021) I just saw it today on luckyscent being one of the fragrances in "The Art Of Seduction" Instagram livestream so i felt i needed to check out again to see what people mean when they say "Seduction", "Sexy", or "Ecstasy". I don't know what did they say about this fragrance in particular in their livestream but i realized that "sweet chocolate", "sweet vanilla", & "sweet gourmand like" blends are the "seductive" ones in the eyes of the masses. Now, Leder 6 is not sexy! it's quite the mainstream kind of sexy with it's milky vanilla sweet mix and a touch of saffron and maybe incense and styrax. This is just too sweet to be sexy, more like a designer blend and i would connect it to maybe p!nk as a celebrity with her boyish look and act or maybe Kristen Stewart with her boring boy act and that "i don't care what to wear or look" kind of fake act she does, and never going to connect this blend with the pic shown above (man in harness) cause Leder 6 is more fairytale than dungeon sex! it's like comparing "Ariana Grande's" fragrances to "Areej Le Dore" blends! Ariana's blends are too sweet, gourmand, fruitti, and clean while Areej's are strong, bold, animalic, tough, & rough.. In my point of view, if you want a real leather blend that is sexy, butch, and quite seductive (I wouldn't go for Knize 10 cause it's a soft leather) then you can check "Quality Of Flesh" by Homoelegans, "Cuir Ottoman" by Parfum d'Empire, "Cuir" by Mona Di Orio, "M" by Puredistant, & for the mass blends "Bel Ame" by Hermes, is perfect & "Mon Cuir" by Ramon Monegal would the perfect candidate if u r the kind of guy who wants attention (no offense) :) So Leder 6 goes to the mass choice for a wearable sweet blend with no leather in it AND to add that masculine butch touch for marketing "J.F. Schwarzlose Berlin" named it Leder 6 and gave it that harness pic. No wonder leather men don't like fragrances if this is supposed to be leather AND butchy!

I’m always curious when it comes to leather note, but this perfume, which even has it in its name, is just proof that no one is immune to mediocrity, not even small houses, from which more fantasy and adventurous spirit would be expected. The start is even promising, as the leather note has something sharp, like kerosene, but it really only lasts a few seconds. Soon vanilla and something milky, like pudding, appeared. And once they settled down, they stayed until the end, with barely noticeable traces of something resinous, just enough to be said to have it. The leather here is not only not intriguing, but it is so sedated with sweetness, but with some saccharine sweetness, which only gives the impression of sweetness but is not really sweet, that all together it is almost like a room scent. The problem is not so much in the combination of leather + vanilla (it would be sacrilegious to mention, say, Habit rouge), but in the fact that it becomes something completely impersonal, generic, like hundreds of other perfumes that are often worn today. Leder 6 is a leather scent for "feel good", but far from any sexual connotations. Certainly not for Tom’s men (they don’t wear perfumes at all and moreover despise them), maybe rather for those who are attracted to Tom’s men. This is so safe that I could imagine celebrities sprayed with it dressed in leather, demonstrating how, lo and behold, they are against prejudices.

This was called Fetisch before they changed the name to Leder 6. I get the leather, a smooth, almost powdery vanilla, and a subdued lactic accord. In all honestly, I was expecting this scent to be more challenging than it is considering its name and apparent reference to the underground Berlin dance/fetish scene. It's well blended and the leather and vanilla combination is fairly smooth. So much so, that at times the vanilla takes over, making it definitely a unisex scent. But it's nothing dark or mischievous, nothing really that will blow your socks off, if you get what I'm saying. In the drydown I also detect the slightest bit of something smoky and the vanilla is now more of a creamy-lactic vanilla mingled with a rather clean leather. Overall a pleasant experience which in my opinion could have been a tad more ''raunchy'', but nice nevertheless. 7/10

Leder 6 by J.F. Schwarzlose Berlin is a sexy leather fragrance. No surprise as it was inspired by the Berlin fetish scene. It opens up as really sweet, almost edible leather and saffron scent. As time goes by, it turns milky and gets softer, still having a big leather note. At the base, the smoke of incense adds to composition making it a sexy unisex leather fragrance with impressive staying power and projection. It opened up differently on me and on male skin. I get more sweetness, but not vanilla, rather the sweetness of honey. On male skin it turned smokier. Looking forward to testing the whole line.

Nice, easy leather. Nothing shocking or challenging about this scent. There’s something sweet that I cannot place that isn’t the vanilla- something else- that’s suffocating the leather for me. It’s almost gormandish to my nose. It’s a pleasant perfume, but if you’re into leather and expecting leather, you may be disappointed. The dry down reminds me of an even more subdued helfeti. I’m picking up a bit of incense, but again, that sweet note is weighing everything down. Overall very pleasant.

Fetisch is more powdery candy goodness than raw sexy leather bondage fun...it literally smells like a 50s prom rather than an underground dungeon :( I will say that it is quite different from other scents I own or have sampled BUT nothing I would kill to get a hold of or feel the need to call my own. Not signature stuff by any means!

This is safe, warm, resinous; kind of like in the same wheel house as issey miyake ambre nior. Very nice. Update: So now I have a full bottle and I am confirming that this fragrance is divine! Possibly the best smoky/leather/sweet fragrance in my collection!

Leder 6 is a leather attack in a bottle. Smouldering dark leather accord enriched with saffron, smokey incense and cinnamon dust of tobacco. Sweetened with vanilla liqueur, milk and a faint lilac nuance that sits on a warm base of balsamic woods.

Leder 6 is a very nice leather fragrance. It was inspired by the Berlin fetish scene. Leather is a fetish and Leder 6 is Sex... in my nose! Love it!

A beautiful calm incense leather scent and very good longevity.
