Zeitgeist

A deep and smooth ambergris, green, aquatic, marine (non-fishy), beachfront slightly salty & slightly sweet scent profile and it's attractive. It is what I would image for a very high quality sea weed that came out of deep ocean to smell like. There is simply no fishy smell at all and has this "aquatic" feel to it that I just can't describe that I'm not familiar with. Interestingly Sophisticated. The ambergris does a good job of smoothing out the ingredients in one go. Silage and performance is slightly above average. Unisex kind. Absolutely beautiful scent profile. So far from J.F. Schwarzlose Berlin line this is the one i want to wear for me personally. I just love this take. Edit: after the sample I got me the bottle, meanwhile the scent is awesome the bottle is insanely small even for 50ml of edp...., but can't complain since I got what I wanted and I'm content with that (except the bottle size). Also I have discovered my summer signature combo by adding a layer of linear orange citrus (monotheme venezia), I'm going to sooo enjoy this over the summer. Edit#2: this used to be my signature scent until I met costal veil by pineward, a literal cold coastline in a bottle. Now this is a second.

Beautiful and sophisticated marine. I had not read notes and would never considered this to have marine aspects because my avoidance of male blue scents is based on dislike of popular feshie/aquatics; this is not that. For myself this is a good intro, to a darker marine. I love it on my partner and I find it very attractive on him, lots of neck nuzzles. Very deep with green but comforting Amber too. Longevity is there but as a skin scent only. Its depth is quiet. This brand makes some serious quality perfumes. Even if I have not loved every one they have been interesting and varied.

I am the only one on esrth who loves this fragrance :-) This is reaaaaally blue and green, like summer rain in a green landscape above the atlantic ocean. Wonderful!

Quite distinctive (though maybe not even that much), but not unpleasant. Top notes: almost floral/white for the first few seconds, before landing on a sort of grayish/salty/animal amber blend. It smells a little bit like sea air (albeit synthetic), yes, with that light background of something pleasing to the mind, a little bit like the visual pleasure of the chalk cliffs in Normandy (both solid and mysteriously airy), even when it's 10°C and you're walking around in that drizzle straight from the Underworld. On the other hand, this seems to be a rather successful use of that funny seaweed note in perfumery (one that sometimes quickly turns into a disaster). I have a rather watery vegetal aspect, interesting. It's airy and contemporary, and I'd be curious to smell the historical version.

I was excited to try this because there was a warmth to it on the test card, but sadly that evaporated very quickly, making it not for me. That said, it’s an interesting scent. Smells like a tryst in a shipyard; there’s a sexiness to it, but in a functional sort of way. I smell salt, boats and wet wood, largely clean but with an underlying note of grime, almost like petrol. That’s not a bad thing, though—that’s where the sexiness comes from!

The opening is a mix of marine notes and......cigarettes? This makes Zeitgeist initially difficult. The dry down is much better, the scent of wooden lounge chairs, wet towels and salty air. The downside is that performance is sub par. I will give Zeitgeist props for being an outlier, I don’t have anything else like it in my collection. It’s a mix of ocean smells and a personal repulsion— a cigarette ash tray smell.

Green seaweed is an accurate description. It's not unpleasant, but I feel like I've smelled this before... It doesn't stand out to me, but I don't dislike it.

Zeitgeist is a slightly unusual marine scent that unfortunately doesn't work for me. I find marine scents challenging at the best of times, but I have come across some decent examples, for example Hermès L'Ombre de Merveilles and Santa Eulàlia Marinis. However, Zeitgeist, despite its best efforts, falls victim to the window cleaner pitfall - synthetic and aquatic, it becomes Windex-like. It is the last of my JF Schwarzlose samples to try, and is a dismal note to end on. Zeitgeist opens with a bright soapiness, almost aldehydic, but is fleeting, becoming herbal and salty quite quickly, perhaps thanks to the ambergris and seaweed notes. However, it settles into the aforementioned Windex accord, chemically aquatic. It fades quickly to a musky, slightly aromatic skin scent. Sillage is intimate and longevity is weak. A unisex freshie, this is best worn in spring/summer, and could have been good, but it is not for me - I can't get past the window cleaner resemblance. Big name for a disappointing scent. 1.5/5.

Masterfully rendered natural marine fragrance. Creates a light impression of the sea, a task so badly missed by all those cloying swimming-pool type fragrances of the 90's which overdosed on calone. I get ambergris tincture and seaweed absolute. Although the ambergris could be represented here by a synthetic like ambrinol, I think this is unlikely given the price. Cutting through underneath is the malty note common in Schwarzlose fragrances (overdone in Trance, and smelling there like stale beer), which brings a pleasing warmth. There's also a very light animalic note which I'm not sure if it comes from the ambergris or another natural animal extract like civet or castoreum. A very faint woodiness which must come from the peru balsam. I don't know what myrtle smells like, so can't say if I smell it. The musks are hardly detectable. Overall the fresh marine-ness is very subtly supported by warming notes. The overall impression is one of human skin on exiting the sea. The initial marine blast when dripping with the sea water replaced by the subtle salty warmth when drying in the sun. An intimate fragrance done well. It won't please those whose primary concern is value for money.

Zeitgeist is an unusual scent, and maybe too subtle by half. The first impression on application is "green fresh," and it takes me a few moments to register that the green note is actually some kind of seaweed. Divorced from the saltiness of seawater or the decomposing funk of the tidal flats, this note stands up well as a clean, fresh element, but it's remarkably different from the cut grass or forest leaves that usually play this role. The ambergris (which I suppose could also be considered a contributor to the marine theme) forms the structural heart of the fragrance and provides excellent longevity. Projection is pretty modest, but enough to remind you throughout the day that you're wearing it. It's very comfortable to wear and projects a version of verdant freshness that stands apart--just a bit--from the typical scent in that vein.

HOW I wish this was stronger. I get green plant life (possibly cucumber) and screechy wood first on, but quietly so. It almost immediately becomes faint clean white musk with salted wood, but it has almost no projection. There is so little sillage that even big-sillage-hating me thinks it’s too weak. Dry down keeps the faint screechy wood notes, but the marine feeling is stronger. I really do like this but it performs like a BBW body splash and it costs too much for that. Second try a week or two later, and I get a clear water scent, not salty sea water, but real water, plus a clean clear musk. I still like it a lot but the price is too high for what this is. I wish this was a BBW cheapy, because I'd just buy a gallon to bathe in.

If you love fresh Mariins, with savory notes, this perfume is for you! As soon as I sprayed it I smell saline iodine, slightly metallic, mineral, I smell seaweed in the background mixed with a salty smell, it is definitely the ambergris that makes its way, then it becomes slightly sweet and the myrtle slightly accompanies the ambergris in its finish, for me it is beautiful, its duration is moderate as is the sillage, but in my opinion it is perfect like this, I can see it very well in the summer while walking on a beach at sunset, it leaves a salty smell on the skin after a long day spent under the sun, and after taking a refreshing swim...

Green (none ocean) seaweed! It has a breath of spring within soapy slight salty ambergris, and water dew but the seaweed is kind of ruining it for me as i'm not a fan of a seaweed neither sniffing nor consuming as food. The seaweed note is whiffing back and forth trying to cover the mix mentioned above so it is kept to minimal, means its there, you can't miss it but at the same time you barely detect it. After all it is beautiful, only if that seaweed note wasn't there..

I am torn with this fragrance. I enjoy the notes and how they blend together but question the projection and longevity. I think I will have to use more of the sample I have before deciding if full bottle is warranted. If any guy has worn this consistently and can vouch for longevity please let me know.

This is very nice skin scent, bit musky, light animalic, bit marine, lovely fruity freshness, which can give you comfortable feelings during the day or night. It`s perfect for cuddling with your intimate lover. Stays close to your skin, but for long time (on man). Good quailty from Schwarzlose.

An average summer scent somewhat fruity and girly. Very safe for daytime activities - no chance of you offending anyone with this but with that said, you won't stand out either. Very plain scent with a killer price tag - what were they thinking?

I have tried many marine scents, but this one is pretty unique. Truly beautiful without any of the harsh notes like salt or off-putting sea notes. Definitely worth a try.
