Coffea

Coffea starts exactly where I wanted it to: fresh coffee, still warm, softened almost immediately by powdery orris and the sweet ambered gloss of Peru balsam. It really does have that delicious phantom latte quality, gentle and faintly gourmand. Not quite petals and espresso but rather a mirage you catch at numerous angles, akin to the effect in JM's Taif Rose. And boy do you find yourself seeking out these angles again and again and again. Rather pleasantly, the coffee does not stay as a floral sweet-latte situation. The roast begins to dry out as it wears, turning woodier, darker, with a more polished texture. The aldehydes dust the brown coffee with this soft cosmetic powderiness, iris cool and slightly grey-violet, while the balsam here offers a vanillic-resinous warmth. It is safe, yes, but it is not boring either. Whilst remaining wearable and composed, Coffea is still more distinctive than the average coffee fragrance, which often goes either sticky caramel latte or bitter stale beans. This scent sits nicer, warm and handsome. Replica's Coffee Break reinterpreted as a craft elixir, maybe? A fantastical Diptyque Bois Corse conjured nebulously from a dream. One of those stunning gourmet infusions even the highest of caffeine gurus cannot dissect—or forget.

This whole line is criminally under the radar ...but so good, it should get more hype. Coffea , made by Paul Guerlain. Very good, Dior Homme Intense type of balsamic Iris amber , with a hint of coffee in the background. If you like Dior Homme Intense you have to try this. To be honest I loved most of the fragrances in this Jil Sander Olfactory series. They are all unique and different enough without smelling strange. None of them are offensive or shouting. You can wear these easily in a professional surrounding. The whole line was a nice surprise for me. Thumbs up!

The year is 1991. It’s late spring, around 10 a.m. on a Sunday morning. You wake up late and wander downstairs. The smell of Folgers brewing fills the house, along with the quiet sounds of your parents moving around the kitchen. Your dad sits at the table with the Los Angeles Times held up in front of his face; as you pass, you catch the scent of fresh newsprint and ink, layered with a faint trace of his aftershave. A window is cracked open, and a breeze carries in the sweet smell of blooming purple flowers.

A playful character with effervescent aldehydes and an elegant iris note, but its dose of coffee brings the scent down to earth, in a good way! I think the fragrances in the line that was released about a month ago are well thought out and all in all good perfumes, unlike many other designer brands that are pumping out scents right now. The bottles in this line are also incredibly stylish in my opinion and I love how the cap covers the entire bottle!

Oh my gosh she’s gorgeous, this scent is so beautifully 1930s to me. Melancholy iris dusting over antique fur. Dolls hair tied in pink stained velvet ribbon. A yellowed brass locket. She reminds me so much of Alice in Wonderland. A waxy second skin scent with a dreamy orris sparkle.

The coffee scent is strong, but it only remains so at the beginning. It is close to New Haalem at the beginning, but closer to Iris Torrefie at the other stages. It is a feminine and elegant iris and aldehydes with a touch of coffee scent.

The opening moments here are what I have always loved about cooler, leathery iris scents- a bit rooty, waxy, aromatic, floral, cold, and most of all earthy and mildly sweet. It's the charm of that initial blast of masculine iris out of Dior Homme Intense which has been copied many times over. Just really beautiful in it's simple, almost aloof, clean elegance. The balsams add a deep richness I pick up in Iris Ebene, and come together with coffee to form this realy lovely bitter-sweet floral aroma that verges on juicy. This succuluent, fresh edge may be where they're pointing at to say this plays into coffee's green side just as much as it's roasted one, but it's not a "green" perfume by my standards. Regardless, It's very nice and comes off more comforting, casual, and unisex than other popular perfumes in this genre that tend to feel more formal and serious. Further into the drydown this gets more suede-like, but remains cool toned with just a shading of coffee and ends up resembling other woody-iris scents with a very mild amber quality. I've actually grown to like it more after wearing it, but I think this line will test how much you're willing to pay for those details in a perfume that make it only marginally better than other options out there.

I really wanted to love this fragrance, especially after seeing so many positive reviews, but unfortunately it just didn’t work for me at all. This was a blind buy, and I was expecting to pick up on the coffee note that so many people mentioned—but I can’t smell coffee whatsoever. Instead, what I get is a very strong, sweet, and powdery scent that reminds me of an old, closed-up closet. It has that thick, slightly soapy sweetness, like scented soap that’s been sitting in a drawer for years. On my skin, it comes across as heavy and a bit headache-inducing. I can see how others might interpret this as “clean,” “classic,” or even comforting, but to me it just feels dated and overwhelming.

cup of coffee that's sweetened a bit too much for my liking, but i'm sitting on the porch on a perfectly bright, slightly breezy sunny day so all's well. the aldehydes add a certain airiness to a scent that is otherwise propped up by relatively heavy notes. the over-sweetness is not to say it ever becomes cloying, just that the initial spritz is perhaps sweeter than you might anticipate. reminds me a bit of other sweet coffee scents we've been seeing (namely diptyque's bois corse), but sways more all-seasons owing to the aldehydes + orris. unfortunately didn't get to test on my skin so i can't comment on longevity/sillage/etc. a treat!!

Nothing groundbreaking but very well done. We've had irises like this before (closest comparison would be Iris Ebene from Atelier Materi - but swap the leather for coffee). Has a nuttiness (from the coffee) that adds a nice depth but otherwise a smooth, musky iris with a decent backbone. Nevertheless, surely a joy to smell for iris lovers, like myself.

The opening is to die for—iris blended to perfection with the slight bittersweetness of coffee. However, it loses the iris creaminess for me as it dries down, leaving something much more akin to the smell of a department store that happens to have a cafe inside.

This is the one I’m most excited to try. Also...to the person who thinks they look like breasts, I’m not sure whose breasts you’ve been looking at but it sounds like that individual needs medical attention, asap!

Haven’t tried these yet but are they supposed to look like ... breasts ?
