Simply Jil Sander

Out of the dozen or so fragrances I have bought over the last half year, this one has been my surprise dark horse. I have loved all the bottles I have bought but after a couple of month some tend to become softer (not sure if I become anosmic or whatever) or lose richness. Not this one. Ironically, it is the one I paid the least for (a bargain for 13 Euro). I've never tried Fahrenheit but I love the androgny and that slightly repellant yet compelling gasoline note here (the idea of which was a turn off till I tried it). My nose isn't learned enough to pick out the notes I am loving but I'm guessing it's the clash of violet, leather and then nutmeg. Longevity is comparable or better than many of my other more expensive scents and I can actually smell this one on me. It's distinctive and confident but restrainedly so. Love it and it's so tempting to buy a backup bottle while I'm still living in Europe because they are so well-priced on the grey/used market here. The only thing holding me back is that my collection is growing so rapidly I'm trying to avoid backups apart from DCs. I suspect that the large number of bottles on the used market here may also be because it's not a great blind buy, with many seeming to find it too masculine. For me, it's not masculine but a perfect example of unisex that is a little intriguing in its ambiguity, not sweet or trying to please.

This is one of those scents I wear purely for myself. If I wanted to be girly feminine and draw attention in a bar, this would not be my first choice. As a matter of fact , I think many of my friends would never pick this fragrance. Yet, I love it. Leather, musk, wood, all these notes make it so interesting to me. The perfume goes through different phases, which intrigues me even more. My favourite season to wear this is autumn. I dare to say this perfume is unisex or androgynous at the minimum. Maybe it's secretly part of the reason why this perfume gives me a confidence boost. I feel like people would definitely take me serious wearing this: "don't mess with that woman" in a good way. And even if they don't and the whole world hates it, I'd still be very happy to wear it. EDIT Fahrenheit! That's it, thank you guys! I knew it reminded me of another fragrance but could not put my finger on it. Yep, 'female version of Fahrenheit' is the shortest fitting description I can come up with.

Finally another Jil Sander to love ! This is on me, more of a subtle powdery leather fragrance. Ok the violet is there , but this is not the fresh clear violet as in Balenciaga l'essence - though this have something that is similar and I love that one too ! Unisex also , but not harsch or sharp , I don' get the fresh start so this is kind of linear on me... This is a perfect scent to wear to work if you normally wear Tom Ford or other very dry earthy leather based perfumes. For me- a delight to have it !!! Update. This is a sweet powdery sensual violet cedar patch musk and leatger blend. If you are slightly unisex towards perfume and love violet, patch and leather - this is for you ! Don't miss this mainstreem as good as a niche !!!

My third favorite Jil Sander fragrance, and I love ALMOST all Jil Sander frags. They are so warm and creamy for most part, very feminine. Not in a loud, but very confident way. They always draw compliments by both genders. German born myself, I wonder if they are especially perfect for German DNA or something like that. Or maybe they are just so me. I don't know what it is, but I feel more like myself with Jil on my skin. It is romance in a bottle with a touch of flirt. Today at the dentist my oral hygienist asked me what the beautiful perfume was that I was wearing, and she wrote it down to get it for herself. I so understand, because this is a real beauty!

Yes, thank you for making me aware of the reason why I'm loving it so much! It's "Fahrenheit pour femme"! And Ms Bond would surely wear this and so will I one day! It's so strong and elegant, deep and sensual, sexy and refrained - a real treasure! I already stopped believing that such scents can be possible among the modern creations... but Jil Sander does not let me down, good, old, not too popular but still outstanding German elegance - love, love, love!!!

Simply is a sensual, confident scent without the overwhelming sweetness perfumes catered to women tend to have. I wouldn't describe it as androgynous, it's just a different kind of femininity. It's one of my favourite scents, I just got my fourth bottle. The price is great, too!

Very subtle,soft violet/leather/musc potion,classy and inoffensive. Longevity could be better, but i can smell it on the clothes next day very distintly. Very nice day and office fragrance. Not really sexy, but cuddly and very well done.

I'm a man and I just love this perfume. I tested it today and can't stop sniffing the test paper. :) Do you think a man could wear it? Or is it particulary feminine?

Simply Fahrenheit "au feminin"! Great fragrance!

I got a sample of Simply Jil Sander by chance, and I like it! First of all I appreciate that it doesn't smell like a thousand other designer scents, which is a problem so many recent popular perfumes I've tried suffer from. This is more original: a light, transparent scent that's not fresh at all but instead focuses on soft violet and even softer leather. Androgynous, as others have mentioned, and above all quite subtle, to the point of being TOO unobtrusive: it's one of theoe scents I have to use a lot more of than I usually do to notice it's there at all throughout the day, so soft is the projection - and longevity isn't very good either. This would be perfect for office use, for instance, which fits the Jil Sander brand very well: I can easily imagine this on a professional woman with good taste who keeps her private self separate from the office. Nice, but I'm not that woman (to the contrary, I tend to wear different scents to work each day as longs as no one complains, obtrusive or not!) and so I don't need more after my sample is used up.

What I want to know is why are the fruit notes not listed in the top? There is fruit, sweet, juicy, sticky fruit when you first spray it. This is less a floral and more a fruity ambery leather. In the dry down, I smell the citrus coming through with musk, patch. This is a sleeper. Put it in a fancy bottle and label and charge $300 and people would gush over it. This reminds me of some of the great ambers and even a hint of Middle Easter scents that I have. It's very pretty and unique. P.S. This is NOWHERE near a chypre. Not even close. It's a sweet, sticky, resinous amber with a tinge of leather. P.P.S. On the total dry down I am not a fan. I loved it in the top and middle. It now smells on me like a masculine cologne. Like something my dad would have worn 40 years ago. Then it mutates one last time into utter dry wood. This fragrance goes through a massive transformation! It is complex. I like it because of that. I am not in love with it though.

Woodsy Violets Leather indeed. Androgynous. I've always wanted to wear Fahrenheit, but it is too potent and mansome for me. But I could follow someone wearing it down the street to get the wafts. I don't, but I want to. I can find Cuir Amethyste (another scent in this category) a bit scratchy and fruity. Simply is a woodsy violet that has echoes of Bottega Veneta (perhaps the legere). Even of Pharrell's Girl. I am unsure about those dry cedar woods in the dry down, but I love to get wafts of a Fahrenheit type scent that I am comfortably wearing. And yes, I am getting Jolie Madame too. Sorry for all the comparisons, this does stand out on it's own and there isn't anything here not to like for me. I love leathery woodsy violets and I suspect I shall be reaching for Simply quite often. Big thumbs up from me. Sillage moderate and longevity 2-4 hours.

One of the few mainstream new releases I really like. Jil Sander's Simply Jil is an androgynous fragrance, sophisticated,classy and austere as a tailored suit. It really fits the minimalist iconic look of Jil Sander. It could be easily pass as a unisex fragrance,the initial notes of crushed violet leaves,quite powdery and fresh without any sweetness following with a combination of refined leather and musk with a hint of nutmeg and wood contribute to a very refined and slightly masculine drydown. Simple,beautiful,refined and timeless. Very good lasting power and medium sillage.

Jil Sander винаги ме кара да се възхищавам на ароматите, които създава. Запомнящи се, присъствени и същевременно в тях няма нищо удрящо в лицето и евтино. Урбанистични и женствени, понякога гальовни, но умерено:), понякога закачливи, но с мярка. Стил и класа, могат да се носят от всяка съвременна жена.

I bought this because i liked the male version strictly a lot, and i read what endymion wrote so i though why not give it a chance and i am glad i did its a great perfume, it reminds me of Khurafi Lattafa Perfumes without the oud. This is definitely a unisex perfume

At first I thought this is a man's fragrance! I don't mind it, I think it's great there are scents out there like this one, that are more unique and experimental, but also sexy, androgynous and confident.

If Dior made Fahrenheit for a woman

Unique, clean and bold! Simply is a very unusual female fragrance. It's confident and androgynous. The most present notes to me in this one are violet, leather and woody notes. While I love this on paper, it sadly doesn't work with my skin chemistry at all. After about one hour it gets very synthetic and plasticy on my skin. Now that I tried this a few times, I maybe have to accept that this isn't for me. I wish it was though!

Agree with the comparisons to Fahrenheit. This one is a massive scent with a drenching, cloying musk. It got right up my nose and made me sneeze. In fact, the longevity was such that even in bed I still couldn't get the smell off me, which eventually started to make me slightly nauseous. If you were wearing this on an airplane they'd have to bump you off. It assaults the senses, and carries on delivering a musky punch in the face every five minutes for a couple of hours. Too much for me. Just too, too much.

First crushed violet leaves, then black fine leather. After some time I can detect violets and little bit of vanilla, but both non-sweet. I comes out very manly. When my husband passed by me, he said "Fahrenheit". And he was right. It has even the same notes, but the violet is more prominent. Very unusual choise for lady's perfume. You'll love it or hate it. Nothing in between.

Another one when I can hardly smell a leather: main role plays vlolet leafs and cypress on my skin that's why I feel this fragrance a bit masculin. Anyway I like to wear it when I'm tired of sweet notes. Longevity and sillage are moderate. I swapped it away since it was to masculine for my taste and blend, synthetic, very Fahrenheit alike.

The first thirty seconds or so were lovely, but then it gave me a massive headache in minutes. So had to wash it off as best I could. After washing the heaviest part away, I can definitely see where the comments about Fahrenheit comes from. I can see how this would be beautiful on the right person. Unfortunately that is not me.

Too German :) Atractive enough for me to purchase it, but than not to were it. Heavy and overwhelming mentally. For me, otherwise could be a fine fragrance.

Something disturbingly sweet in not a nice way for me. And it is similar too Fahrenheit, i can not stand it cuz my ex was using Fahrenheit.

Masculine cologne. A cheap one.

Not sure how leather cannot be smelled. Certainly, if one is looking for it as in the most prominent note then no, this is not it. But here the leather is just suave! The combo with violet is idyllic - I don't perceive leaves, just the flower in a fresh state. It does not remind of 'lipstick' or 'grandma' leather bag. The subtle musk and spices adorable... Yes, it reminds of Farhneit - which I wore for years - but it's a super, uber-chic feminine version of it. I am simply in love with Simply! I started with buying the EDT, which is slightly sharper and more flowery, though not so long lived. Then along came the brume for the body and the EDP. I know I will not stop until I have the lot of the layering flankers too. Gotta to! This is now my new signature scent after 27 years of devotion to Angel. Talking of opposites and discoveries! I love of Simply that all notes can be detected, some as a caress - mandarin orange, patchouli, cedar - and others as a gentle sidekick to the main combo violet/leather. Subtle and classy. And the drydown is to die for! This is definitely a scent that grows on people the more tries one gives to it. It is not linear, it is not loud, it is not powdery - not.one.bit - or a power house, but in its own right is detectable, unique and sophisticated. It's an outstander, way removed from the overly sweet gourmands and powdery roses out there. On a comparison note, the EDT is slightly sharper and colder than the EDP. I prefer the warmth of the latter in general, but absolutely love both. *MIND* this is Fahrenheit younger sister. 11 out 10 from me, worth a try if you haven't yet reached for it.

- Violet carnage - Now this! Once again I'm reminded how a single perfume can have such a huge impact. I tried this at a local Douglas and was surprised of it's masculine character and uniqueness among the other new perfumes I boringly went trough.. As I sprayed it I was instantly reminded of Fahrenheit, which I happen to love, and thought that maybe this could be a substitute for they days when Fahrenheit feels to strong. Oh how wrong was I - this, simply, is just on a whole another level. I get subtle but dark leather, woody musks, earthy nutmeg and violet amped up so metallic that it smells almost bloody. While metallic might sound offputting they did the violet so remarkably well that I had to rewire my brain to accept the fact that I'm actually loving this perverse imaginary blood note. I'm sorry I love Fahrenheit (not saying it's worse) but compared to this it's nowhere as dark and enigmatic. This here is the real killer - if James Bond was a woman, she would wear this. (of course there's blood because she shoots people) The longevity is great and the sillage is subtle but with a strong thick presence. Like mentioned before - Simply is pretty masculine and can easily pass as a mens fragrance. I already got myself a flacon and will be wearing it more when the autumn shows up.

Later edit: Too bad it doesn't really last more than 2-3 hours although i generously bath my clothes in it with 6 sprays. I do find a very strong resemblance with Balenciaga l'essence I love both of them. I've been wearing them alternatively quite intrigued by the fact that although there's no nutmeg or leather note in L'essence, i do feel something subtlety spicy here too.. Still both openings of Balenciaga and Simply are jesty - citrus like- probably from the cedar note- with a presence of a subtle violet. They both have a androgynous vibe. Balenciaga keeps the woody note until the dry-down while Simply becomes spicier, unisex ,non gourmand dry nutmeg, .Simply can be worn all year -round and Balenciaga is better to be worn during the summer and is bit more melancholic and introspect (or that's because of Charlotte Gainsbourg). For me is a more of an aromatic fougere , not a chypre. I really love Simply. Will definitely have one!

The campaign sums this fragrance up perfectly - for me it's a "dandy" scent. Masculine ingredients, quite a masculine vibe, which i personally like. So much that in certain stores the've even put it the men's cologne departement :))) It's dark yet light, interesting yet simple, elegant yet cozy at the same time. Love this ambivalency. True sophistication! I wouldn't call it a chypre as i literally hate every single chypre, even the lightest ones. For my nose it's rather a woody-musky floral. Sillage is close to skin, longevity seems average, but it's still in the testing phase. Verdict: both lasting power and sillage are great, but it's too mannish even for my liking. Reminds me of Fahrenheit a bit.

I bought this blindly, as it was on sale for a very low price. I tried it today for the first time, but it will also be my last. It's not a bad scent at all, at first spray I actually smelled most of the base and a bit of the citrus, after a while the violet started to shine, through, with a leather background. Sadly for me, it seems, I can't appreciate the violet scent at all. Simply smells very clean and flowery on my skin, but with too much violet for me. It lacks the depth (other than the leather) or citrusy smell I had hoped to find accompanying the violet. My loss is my niece's gain, she loves it, so she can have it.

Yes I definitely get Fahrenheit as well. And the notes suggest it should smell like it. All the notes in here are in Fahrenheit as well. It's a female version of Fahrenheit ! I just received touch of violet ( same family ) it's also a version of Fahrenheit. In a big way ! Love them! Leathery violet musc , classy and welmade. But all I can think of is Fahrenheit. Which is a good thing :) it even has the ozonic feel and the slight gasoline vibe. So hard here to find in Canada. Like others said ,a simplified and feminized Fahrenheit. Some still find this masculine but I find it perfect.

I get Fahrenheit too and that's a great thing. It opens brightly with a little cologne-citrus tint to the green violet leaf. The violet is there but it's not candy sweet or powdery. There is a tiny hint of the anisic violet from Karleidoscope but that is a balmy oriental and this is certainly a drier chypre in comparison. Then it becomes very leathery in a birch tar kind of way. Very woody, and yes masculine. Outstanding for a contemporary Jil Sander, something to stand proudly amongst the best scents from this house.

I tested simply in Douglas. This is simply female version of Christian Dior Fahrenheit which I love. But I love this more. It is less agressive than Fahrenheit which made me sometimes headache when I overapplied. I love to smell Fahrenheit from other people but I don't like it much on myself. But for Simply I love to have it on me. Nice for both day and night and it's unisex as well. Updated: Longitivity is not so long, it lasts only 4 hours for me. Projection is OK, not as loud as Fahrenheit.

Definitely very pretty, feminine, not heady at all, more subtle though with some presence..typical Jil Sander, easy to wear, classy yet casual, nice all around..smooth violet, and the leather is quite shy. I find it more feminine than masculine.this is not a unisex scent.I am not liking it to the point of wanting a bottle, but I enjoyed my sample! my brother wears Fahrenheit and this is not it!!

There's a synthetic note in here which registers as tar to my nose, it hits me almost immediately. I had to wash it off my wrists, and after the initial scrub the fragrance was still there, without the annnoying note, smelling slightly better, gentler. I can see how someone might like it but it's too masculine and too synthetic for me.

I liked it at the beginning. It was a really great combination of fresh, sweet and spicy. But then came the dry down and it just gets too cloyingly patchouli sweet. The type of sweet patchouli dry down we have seen a million times by now. To bad.. The opening was promising!

I saw in Germany Düfte Messe and was attarectıve but longevıty is 10 minute.Schade...
