Sun Bath

I got this a week ago, and as always, I am blown away by the simple complexity and sophistication of Jil Sander scents. This might have been a typical aquatic, which I am not a fan of, but it's so much more than that. I definitely get the pink pepper through the entire development, as well as the ylang-ylang. So let's face it, Calone can be a tough one to deal with when it's overused, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was a killer price, and I'm determined to own (or at least test) as many Jil Sander scents as possible. Since I hadn't purchased any fragrances in months, and I was buying a couple for hubs for our anniversary, I threw this one in the cart with it. I just know that I need more fresh scents for hot weather living in Haiti. There's just something about this . . . Like most JS scents, I can truly detect every note. It's not a soup, but a beautiful bouquet with each note having its place, and the development, while not dramatic, really settles into a gorgeous summery scent. If I had to describe this, it's EXACTLY as the description states, like spending the day in a seaside pool. It's funny that the exact description I gave BEFORE reading the scent description was just that. They absolutely nailed it. There's the slightest idea (not really the note) of the smell of a pool. Warm, watery, a bit of chlorine, and the scent of sun products, surrounded by gorgeous tropical vegetation and the surf. So yeah, a totally surprising win, and on these recent hot days, I've found myself, the anti-aquatic girl, craving this one! I tend to spray it in the afternoon after I've sweated off my morning scent, and it's so incredibly refreshing!

Absolutely wonderful and worthy of a back up bottle. This is without any doubt my favorite aquatic scent by far, and if it smells just remotely as good in the heat of the summer as it does now in January (and my bet is that it will be even better), it will become my scorching heat staple. I know, I know, it is really not meant for winter, but I just couldn't wait to try it out when it arrived the other day. I know you will most probably understand. So its true nature hasn't been revealed to me yet, but that this is so gorgeous even in January is a tell tale sign for me for even better days to come with this gem. If you are fan of the original Sun (my absolute favorite perfume by the way), you might get disappointed. It is not even in the same vicinity. Sun Bath is a true aquatic scent, without the creaminess that defines so many superb Jil Sander frags. But it has a roundness to it that many aquatics lack, in fact, it is incredibly well balanced. So if you are a fan of Jil Sander frags in general, like me, and like aquatic scents for the summertime without the expectation that you will get a slightly altered twin of the original Sun, you will not be disappointed. This is an aquatic masterpiece.

Finally!!! The REAL 'suntan lotion' perfume I have been dreaming of! Came across it by chance while shopping in Frankfurt. DON'T be fooled by other reviews saying that Beach by Bobbi Brown is summer in a bottle - I bought it online because of the reviews and hate the smell :( Jil Sander Sun Bath is what for us Europeans summer really smells like. This will share first place with Estee Lauder's Bronze Goddess :)

I love my other JS perfumes, but, this one was a big disappointment :(( -It smells more on the masculine side, probably it has to do with my skin chemisty, I have tryed to use it with layers, but, without any luck. I think I store it away, again, perhaps it will smell better in some years. -But, the bottle though, is very, very beautiful :))

I love calone, so bear that in mind with this review. The calone is noticeable, but not as much as I wish it was. Sunbath is too strongly synthetic, with some grapefruit and citrus notes that scream, pulling your attention to distraction. It was so loud, with such a beast of sillage, that I had to try to scrub it off - to no avail. It's here to stay til it fades of its own accord. The first impression is generic cucumber-melon, which is fine, but it's awfully synthetic compared to the options that are out there for that combo. In about 20min the cucumber-melon fades into the synthetic citrus. The floral notes are too quiet to compete and are ultimately lost in the mix. The ylang ylang seems like it should have been left out of the blend entirely because it doesn't mix well with the others, notably the citrus. They compete for attention. The ylang also has a buttery edge that is what detracts from the otherwise watery fruity floral. If you're sensitive to synthetics, you won't like this. And it's not MCAS or fibromylagia friendly. It's screechy and sharp and has a sour edge that makes it a total scrubber. The final drydown is a combination of fake grapefuit and mildew, no joke. I couldn't place the odor until just now. It's mildew.
