Amber & Patchouli

I feel this was strengthened in 2014. If you smell the new bottle with the updated packaging; (it's all in the details of the text line height. Type became bigger and the word 'cologne intense' has space from 'Amber and patchouli') The scent is definitely stronger and longer lasting. It's not HUGE like other patchouli scents but it's beautifully smooth and velvety. It's a bit dirty and dark. I really enjoy this scent, it's a very grown up sensual scent that is suitable for times when you wouldn't want to choke everyone out with similar Tom Ford vibes. It could work in winter as well as summer, and just generally an everyday scent for the elegant and sensual types. It's a wearable animalic, which is quite rare! For lovers of Amber, patchouli and woody scents, I highly recommend you check it out. But make sure you test the new bottle. EDIT: This must have a lot of ambroxan as an ingredient. Which would explain why some people can't detect the scent much. If you follow the phenomena that is Molecules 01 02 03, you'll know what I mean. These molecules are big and often the wearers become anosmic to it. Sometimes Amber & Patchouli end up smelling like nothing for my nose as well. Ambroxan to me smells a bit like musky newspaper. The scent comes and goes. But you wake up the next morning to detect it strongly again. It lasted over 12 hours on, but I didn't detect it during wear. So bizarre.

Amber & Patchouli is my favourite Jo Malone. It's sensual and seductive. The dry down is so stunning and sexy! I receive many compliments on this one, funnily enough more from guys, It also lasted a full working day of 9 hours and I could get whiffs of it all throughout. What's interesting is the scent really develops and comes alive in the heat! I own more challenging patchoulis like 'Noir Patchouli' by Histoires de parfums, but I don't see myself reaching out for that as it's too polarising for daily wear. The Jo Malone Amber & Patchouli is highly wearable and elegant. It doesn't project too far but certainly noticeable to those that are close. Cologne intense range is more an eau de parfum concentration at 18~20% according to the sales staff. If you spray on fabric, it's there the next day. It's probably the darkest offering that Jo Malone has, and would appeal to people who generally would pass on Jo Malone for its airiness. If you like darker, spicier, rich oriental scents, you should give this a spritz! I love it so much that I wish Jo Malone would reformulate it to be even stronger and intense!

To sum up this fragrance in one word: understated. A more apt name for it is "White Amber & Green Patch". If you're the type of person searching for the sweet and deep, "beast-mode" ambery scent, look elsewhere. This is a dry, unsweetened, non-smokey, non-spicy resinous "amber" (most likely some ambroxan) with a strong guaiac wood profile and shades of green patchouli. The patch note is very much not the brown/dirty variety used in other places, but fresher with a fougere feel. The minimal sweetness really let the paper-like, fibrous smell of guaiac wood shine, and overall we get a very "blanc" interpretation similar to it cologne intense sib Oud & Bergamot. I do understand why people dismiss Amber & Patchouli though. In the past 4 years I own my bottle I've come across many flirtatious, much more expressive amber/patch scents that made me think about selling this one. But I always come back to this for how well executed it is, and now I think I'll just keep the bottle for good. Truly one of its kind. P.s. This scent is re-issued by Jo Malone in the Huntsman line. Great news for those that love it!

I did something a bit unusual for me today and smelt this then 10minutes later went back and dropped over £100 on a bottle! Oh my its sooooooo lovely! I am planning to wear it on its own or pair it with my Woodsage & Sea Salt! I didn't thinked I liked Patchouli that much either! Just goes to show theres no accounting 4 taste! Especially with me!

This to my nose smells similar to Ambre Sultan without the vanilla sweetness. It's a bit sharper than Ambre Sultan with more a coriander peppery opening. The dry down is a delicious Ambery Guiac wood blend that is subtle and long lasting! Highly recommended for anyone that loves Ambers, and spicy wood scents.

Can't believe they discontinued this. Hope they bring it back! The most wearable benjoin amber patchouli combo with a gaiac base.

My second favorite from the Cologne Intense collection, after the Oud and Bergamot! It's strong and perfect for Winter.

I really liked the smell of this one, which is surprising as most of Jo Malone's scents are too fresh and green for me. However, I must reiterate from other reviews my huge disappointment at the scent's life. This is an eau de cologne, and I quasi always need a minimum of EDP. It was faint to begin with, and the attendant said that with EDC you just have to reapply more liberally. Well, from my testing, I would need to reapply once an hour. Just not worth it for me unfortunately.

Amber&Patchouli is a linear fragrance true to its name; a blast of amber which is very smooth, rounded, dark and resinous with a woody aroma in the background that I can recognize from many other perfumes. The patchouli comes in later, when the amber dials down a bit. Scent: 7/10 Longevity: 6/10 Projection: 5/10

Amber and patchouli, such a yummy blend. This is a light, simplistic version of my beloved Coromandel. Upon application it fades down quickly to a lighter skin scent but It does last for a good 8 hours or so. I'd consider this for warmer weather since it's not that heavy. Very nice!

Beautiful warm fragrance, woody but only slightly sweet, deep and spicy without being overly so, with none of the dirtiness patchouli can sometimes have. Like the others of the cologne intense range, great sillage, lasts a long time.

I won this one in a raffle. It was a rather masculine scent. To my disappointment the staying power was very very weak. Since these scents are actually quite expensive and this one is even called "intense", I wouldn't recommend buying them. I sold mine and wouldn't buy another Jo Malone, since I assume that the "non-intense" ones must be even more weak.

This should be more to my taste as I love amber and like patchouli, but it's too light and airy in the end. Not good lasting power either. I much prefer Vanilla and Rose Water or Dark Amber and Ginger Lilly from the Intense line of Jo Malone instead, both of which have lasting power that many EDPs would be jealous of.

The amber is not too sweet in this, and the patchouli is the woody, resin-like sort so they work well together. I wish I would have gotten more of the wood as that is a favorite note of mine but I think the patchouli was a little too strong for it. Good unisex scent, anyone could wear this.

This is a very weak and faint amber scent. I can't detect it after only 2 hours.

Wow what a fail. How can you name a fragrance “Amber & Patchouli” when A: patchouli is more often than not an integral part of the amber accord anyway and B: there is ZERO vanilla. Yes..amber accords can be switched around and played with but at least we need all 3 elements that make up the cozy sweet comforting resinous hug we know and love as amber. What we have here is 2/3rds of the amber accord which is first revealed as a peppery patchouli.. then a pale Labdanum resin soon after. One quick switch that doesn’t leave me breathless. It never reaches the full amber feeling that’s in the name and title. It reminds me of a “weak sauce” version of marquis de Sade by Etat libre d”orange which is far superior and at least they say hey... this fragrance is just about Labdanum. It’s fragrances like this that frustrate me because they put the wrong impression out into the universe. It is a quasi amber with lots of moving parts missing. Yes.. jo malone fragrances are meant to be layered but no way in hell am I’m now gonna buy ANOTHER fragrance of yours to layer with this..something vanilla from the brand to complete something that should already be fully realised. Nope! Sorry jo malone. This is a joke! Also longevity... poop! Haha. Avoid.

The concept of a scent dedicated solely to amber and patchouli was very appealing to me, however I found this to be somewhat of a disappointment. Coming from Tom Ford's Amber Absolute and Patchouli Absolu, which slap you in the face with their bold intensity, the Jo Malone scent is a quiet whisper that seems to hint at amber and patchouli in contrast. The scent itself is nice and quickly dries down to an adequate amber. The problem is that I can pump and pump and pump this on and only just smell it. I find the sillage to be very poor and only the barest traces remain after a couple of hours.

I just returned from Nordstrom, scent snooping and came back with a sample of this. I must disagree about the many comments regarding longevity because it's realllly hanging in there on me. Almost too strong and I'm an oriental patch nut. However, I will say, it reminds me if Kate Walsh Boyfriend in a huge way!! So if you're curious you could save yourself some pennies and just order Boyfriend online somewhere. To me the Amber patch note is almost identical! It does lean to the masculin side like others have said but overall I do like it....not enough to buy though.

I found a used bottle of this to try out. Initial impressions are that it is a bit nondescript and not at all intense.. It's neither one thing nor the other and just when it seems to be getting just a little bit more complex or interesting , it disappears almost completely!! Really weak sillage and staying power... meh. I'll mess around with it and try layering a bit, but I find it frankly rather dull.

Soooo good! Sweet - earthy, woody. Dark and deep. The patchouli is very approachable, not the funky kind. It smells a touch chocolatey in the patchouli. The amber is bringing in a nice balance to it. I feel similar vibes to a YSL Tuxedo if I were to relate it off the top of my head. I get a touch of something smoky. But overall this is chill. Light performer and projector. As is Jo Malone

I was looking for this fragrance within the Jo Malone range at a large U.K. airport in late November 2016, but was told by the lady working there that Amber & Patchouli had been discontinued. If true, it's a shame - to me this was one of the best fragrances (scent wise) that Jo Malone offered.

I tried this yesterday and though it's a much much lighter and less complex version, it's New Haarlem to my nose by Bond no. 9. I think it's coming from the patchouli, however if you want the same feel of New Haarlem, grab this for a much cheaper price! It's a transparent New Haarlem!

Like other Jo Malone fragrances that I've tried, this one is really too unisex for my personal taste. However, I can imagine this smelling amazing on a very stylish and confident man. I only tried this on a paper strip so can't comment on the lasting power.

It’s a beautiful scent but very weak. 15 mins later it’s completely gone. This is typical of almost all Jo Malone frags. Not even as strong as an edt. I will finish up my 10ml decant but I’ll never buy a bottle. Not worth anything .imho

I would agree with most of the opinions with regards to this fragrance....lovely but doesn't last. It doesn't deserve the word intense as the opening lasts all of two minutes then nothing. Safe to say that I won't be buying this again.

I bought this cologne cause Amber & Patchouli are my favorites after Vanilla. But I am dissapointed it does not lasts even it is Intense. My first but last Jo Malone experience.

Very good patchouli fragrance but performance is very very bad. In 2 or at most 3 hours it is gone. What a pitty. 4/10
