Blue Agava & Cacao

EDIT (06-07-2020): Okay, this is crazy. This is FAST becoming one of my absolute favourites! Top 10 easily. Maybe even Top 5! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I love this! This is bloody delightful. I blind-bought this on eBay in a bid and received a 100ml bottle at a very decent price! It's amazing. As is the case with positive blind-buys: Big risks = big rewards. It's taken me ages to try and describe this perfume, but the closest I can come up with is: The most elegant, gentle, warm Coca-Cola haze. This is in no way a bad thing. It's pretty. It's intoxicating. It's sophisticated. It's sweet. It's VERY cozy. <3 This isn't a full 3-tiered pyramid to me. It's more 2-tiered only. The initial zesty-lime mingled with warm, elegant cola burst that then settles to something ever-so slightly sweet. It's never 'sticky' or sickly. Honestly, I'd wear this anytime. Longevity is pretty great. I can smell it at the end of a shift. Sillage is modest. I mean, it truly is a gentle scent. I feel it hangs around the wearer nicely like a comforting scarf, but isn't overwhelming. It's absolutely magical to smell on your own skin. This can be bought on the JM website on their *Online Exclusives* page, as well as other previous limited addition fragrances! GO FORTH, COMRADES! Another Jo Malone favourite! Also - INCREDIBLY underrated! It would absolutely be my pleasure to repurchase this again. :) *** Kitty rating: 10/10!

I have had the pleasure of wearing 3 scents from the Jo Malone range; Blackberry and Bay, Mimosa and Cardamom, and Blue Agave and Cacao. These ones I love because I believe that these partnered notes really do bring out the best in each other. The fresh spicy bay leaves, for instance, really bring out the fruitiness of the blackberries for the Blackberry and Bay scent. Blue Agave and Cacao is no different. It was actually my first JM fragrance, and I chose it because of the sweet cacao notes. I have to admit, I had never heard of Blue Agave before, and was surprised to find out it is a succulent plant, grown mainly for the production of tequila. I don't know about you; but sadly I could not get a tequila note from this. If there is one, it is very feint. What I could smell, however, are the spicy and sweet cacao and vanilla notes, as well as quite an imposing floral. I had to consult the perfume's official description for a clue, and believe it is the white lily which gives the scent its boisterous nature. Finally, vetiver and vanilla round this scent off to a luxurious, yet easy-to-wear, light gourmand. If you are after a sophisticated scent with cacao, this is the one to go for.

I was shopping at Nordstrom and passed the Jo Malone fragrances. I stopped to speak with the saleswoman. I smelled one of the fragrances. I forget which one it was, but it didn't appeal to me at all. She looked at me intensely and went immediately for Blue Agava & Cacao and insisted I try it, because she felt it would suit me. She was right. I normally wouldn't have paid this much for a fragrance, not unless it was really special and on my list of must haves. I just have too many (from drugstore to niche). I got the most wonderful dry sweetness from this. Definitely get the cacao. I wasn't struck by the citrus at the top, but now that I read the notes, it makes sense. The cacao is tempered and evened out somehow by the floral/citrus layers, which sort of hold this fragrance down and keep it from floating off into gourmand world. I really can't compare this to any other fragrance. It doesn't have great staying power on me, but no surprise there. It was still instant love at first spritz. I don't ever layer this or mix this with other JM fragrances. I just love this too much as it is. I wonder why this is so high priced on Amazon today? Is it already discontinued?

I wholeheartedly agree with miss Butterbean on this one. The most prominent note is cacao, strengthened by the vanilla. There's also a powdery flower (I guess that's the lily) that's especially noticeable during the opening, causing me to think it might be too feminine. Luckily the flowers go to the background during the drydown and the cacao and vanille becoming more lively, making it unisex again. Just like miss Butterbean, I don't really get the cinnamon or the cardamom, so this doesn't qualify as spicy. More like a gourmandy floral (or a flowery gourmand since the cacao and vanilla are more prominent). I do understand people complaining about the longevity. I only notice it slightly on my wrist now, and it's only been 3 hours since I sprayed it on. It lasted a lot longer when I tried it out in July. So even though this is a warm scent, I'd say it's more suited for the warmer seasons... This perfume is inspired by the rhythm of latin music, and I get that. So when you're going dancing (especially if it's a rumba, samba or paso doble), be sure to wear this ;) The exercise will increase your body heat and thus augment the projection of this lovely scent.

When I decided to treat myself to a new Jo Malone fragrance, this one jumped out at me for some reason. I had planned on browsing the website to narrow down my choices then go in and try some, but this scent was brought back online only, so I decided to just dive in the deep end and buy a bottle. I am so happy I did! This might just become my new signature fragrance (only time will tell). It is such a unique scent, and really settles nicely on my skin. Despite being a cologne, it also seems to last a ridiculous amount of time for me, even lasting through sweating while exercising. I've already gotten quite a few compliments on it from people too! The initial scent is a little harsh on the nose, and I was worried that it wouldn't be for me; but as it dried down and settled, that richer, creamy flavour started to come through from the cocoa, vanilla and cinnamon. It layers really well with a lot of other fragrances too, which I really love! Some days choosing just one perfume is too much! I appreciate that it has a deep sweetness to it without being overwhelmingly so, making it a great fragrance for everyday use.

Don't be fooled by the votes! Blue Agava & Cacao is by no means a typical floral vanilla chocolate perfume. This scent is best interpreted by the pyramid: the opening is quite reminiscent of Coca-Cola: fresh, floral, gently spicy with an artificial flavour nuance. The floral orchid accord becomes more apparent as the perfume settles, which seems to be the perfumer's interpretation of blue agava flower. The cacao is present at all times, leaning more to the milk chocolate side but far from giving a pure gourmand feel as linden, cardamom and orchid are in the mix. It's one of a kind and I really enjoy wearing this when I want to smell "different". The perfume wears linear, and lasts a good 7 hours with five sprays. I'll cherish my bottle while it lasts, but *probably* not a repurchase. @RoyalPerez516: The living cologne series was released at around 2007 and they serve as both room spray and cologne. The marketing description says, "... combin[ing] the concepts of a skin scent and a home fragrance, [a] first-of-its-kind, Living Cologne is a brilliant way to scent your skin and extend to infuse any environment."

While there is no agava in this fragrance - there is cacao which is the most prominent note, followed by vanilla and lily. Don't ge me wrong - this is no gourmand and you won't sniff and go - ooo chocolate. The cacao is dry, very, almost not very sweet but bitter - but it is there. Surprising that people who vote for prominent notes, do not recognize the beautiful oriental white trumpet lily - because it is definitely in there an noticeable. The scent opens bitter blast of dry dusty cocoa and lilly combo. But overall I would say that it is mildly vanilla sweet, dusty dry cocoa with the light dusty lily feel. The scent evolves to more pronounced cacao and sweetens as it wears. The vetiver adds to the bitterness, that keeps it from being too sweet of a scent. It is an interesting and unique scent. I don't think I would qualify this as spicy. Definitely NOT a gourmand. The cardamom and cinnamon are very faint. very. I really like the Lily, Cacao and Vanilla combo. This fragrance is set for discontinuation in 2016. Anyone looking for something VERY similar -- get your nose on Van Cleef & Arpels Orchidee Vanille.

An unusually dark tropical novelty, but as with almost all Jo Malones, it's like falling in love with a one night stand. Enjoy it while it lasts, because it's over before you can pick your clothes up off the floor and call for a taxi. There is no longevity here. I've bought a ton of Jo Malones over the years thinking it "must be me" and "I just haven't found the right one yet". Nonsense. It's not me, it's Jo. And there is no "right one" (there are a few that stick around yes, but I'd rather they not). I'm offended by the nervy cheek of asking these ridiculous prices. Joke is on me for buying. So no more running back to this counter to get a fix. This entire line is best dropped before an expensive habit forms. *EDIT: I want to qualify "ridiculous prices" - they are! For something that disappears shortly after application thus requiring frequent reapplication (with some fragrances in this line that means almost every half hour). However I can appreciate the innovative scent combinations, so if this line was available as an EDP, I would not have a problem returning to it and paying even more.

I bought this immediately after sniffing it on my arm. I rarely buy a fragrance without letting it sit on me awhile, but this one was love at first smell. I already have the Black Vetyver Cafe by Jo Malone, and was told by the SA that these two were a good layering combination. I can't wait to try it out that way. What do I like so much about Blue Agava & Cacao? First, I like scents that are a little unusual, but smell good (as opposed to unusual, but who in their right mind would wear them scents). The initial spray is green and sparkling, the lime blossom being first out the gate, followed closely by the cardamom. I love cardamom in my fragrances, and have several with this ingredient. The cardamom doesn't take over, because as soon as the lime fades away, the scent starts to become more floral. The floral notes are nicely blended, no single floral note is discernable to my nose. I would never classify this as a floral however - it's a little salty, a little sweet, a little spicy, a little floral all at once. The combination of these sensations is what makes it unique to me.

It must be magic! The cacao here is just like in nature; as if the fruit is cut open, and there you have cacao pulp before you. I am impressed with the nutty, dry, and simultaneously vibrant, bright opening; wich leads to the waxy, buttery, velvety, natural cacao; and such a true cacao it is. It's extremely rich and gourmand, but never syrupy or heavy. Only a slight sweetness develops one half hour after wear (and I am still enchanted). Later still, the scent becomes like cashmere, or a deep velvet, with textures arising through the sillage. A light hearted, giggly feeling comes from the red berries, and lemon. Faint petal tones lie in the background, from the geranium, orchid, and lily, they are so weak, they seem almost like air, giving levity. There is constantly a gentle spiciness that can be noted via the cinnamon and vetiver. The vanilla is present, always, providing richness, while mingling with the musk. The scent develops, changes... it's so beautiful and artistic, yet so tasty. So many nuances, so many alluring and gorgeous facets, all combined in one scent!

I was completely blown away by this today. The woman who runs the perfume department at Nordstrom was way more patient with me than I deserved--I couldn't decide what to test on my skin, and nothing she suggested was really doing it for me. Then she left for a moment, came back with this on a card, and I was hooked right away. It smelled a little gingerbread-y on paper, and then on my skin the cocoa came through immediately and beautifully. Over the next eight hours or so it switched between velvety cocoa and sweet, boozy flowers. I didn't pick out the spices as individual notes, but the blend is gorgeous--it's obvious when you smell it that it's not only chocolate, and the richness is what kept me sniffing. This doesn't settle into a base so much as calm down into a skin scent over time, and after ten hours it's still there and true to what it was when I first sprayed it. I'm very impressed and would absolutely buy a bottle.

Slightly bitter, slightly sweet - but mostly warm, dry cacao. If you are looking for a sweet gourmand chocolate - this isn't it. This smells like high quality raw, powdery cacao with warm spices (cardemom and cinnamon). The vanilla isn't dessert-like either - but dry, raw vanilla pod. I don't get a lot of flowers but feel that they might ad some light airiness to the composition. The first time I tried this was in warmer weather in summer and the dry bitterness came out too much for my liking. Now it is windy, rainy fall, and I really like it. It's warm and spicy without being heavy. I think it is perfectly unisex - but I like it even if I normally gravitate towards traditionally feminine scents. I guess a lot of people would prefer heavier sillage. But for me the intimate to moderate sillage is perfect for this kind of scent as it allows me to wear it for daytime and office. Longevity is okay, but nothing spectacular.

I have recently become obsessed with spicy vanilla fragrances. After smelling this a couple of times at the jo Malone counter, I finally decided to purchase it. The thing with Jo Malone fragrances is that they are not meant to be loud. They are meant to be skin Scents. And a lot people, like me, prefer that. It can be annoying of some one is wearing a perfume that you dislike, with a monstrous spillage. So for me, the longevity of jo Malone is good, about six hours, and it continues to be a skim scent from then on. Now the scent itself, when I spray it, it is a beautiful Cacao and cardamom. After about an hour, some citrus emerges along with vanilla. It seems that this one has a little bit of incense even though it doesn't list it in the notes. To me, there is a resemblance between the dry downs of blue agava and Cacao and prada infusion d'iris. Overall, a beautiful scent for those who love spicy vanilla Scents.

I also heard this is going to be discontinued (or has been and what stock is currently left is all there is). I purchased this fragrance 3 months ago, after sampling and loving it, but I felt all I could smell with my bottle was overwhelming musk. I was very disappointed. However, it then seemed to mellow out over the last few months and now I smell chocolate and vanilla and spice. I don't smell floral or citrus, but the musk is still there underneath. Did the chemicals settle? Maybe! It layers really well with Nectarine Blossom and Honey - so delicious! Blue Agava and Cacao is a perfect night-time sophisticated (a first-date, alluring first impression) scent that is so unlike any others. I will have to get my hands on another bottle before it no longer exists and store it away. It's such a complex and unique scent and you won't be disappointed.

Beautiful, breezy, spicy, sweet. Blue Agava & Cacao is completely unlike any other cocoa scent around, and I totally understand why some people might be disappointed when they smell it. This is not a dessert scent loaded with vanilla and syrup. There's a sense of airiness and coolness to the sweetness, like powdered sugar as it hits your tongue. The cucumber-melon-like agava is strong but balanced against the nutty richness of cocoa and the spicy sweetness of cinnamon. The fruits and florals are not obvious. Over time, the composition takes on a dryer and spicier sort of leathery sweetness as the cardamom takes over, and this is where the scent becomes a little more masculine. If you like the spicy-sweet heart of Frederic Malle's Noir Epice, but not the opening florals or the soapy-dry base, give this one a sniff.

Right now my favourite Jo Malone , agave & cacao is. A sweet vanilla , cacao flavored oriental floral the agave sweetens the cacao note quite nicely and makes the vanilla cacao gourmand note remain on the floral light side rather than a thick cloying oriental. This is why this one is nice for all year around and at all times of the day. The Cardamon and cinnamon make this really quite yummy. Its a warm sweet vanilla. But not too sweet. I have just ordered the body cream for it as well. It's amazing!!! Compforatbe all day. Many compliments from my family. My son says it reminds him a little of hot chocolate. Especially when first sprayed. ( the cacao is natural and strong ) then it morphes into a pleasant vanilla that's just beautiful and easy to wear.

This is a good, very unique scent. It is my husband's favorite. I found the top notes to be better appreciated from an atomizer. The lime blossom and coriander are lovely, but fade within an hour on my skin. Although the warm notes are listed on top here, they are the ones that linger on me. I get warm, comforting, slightly sweet, but definitely not cloying, dry cacao that is well balanced with vanilla and a teeny touch of spice. Longevity of the warm notes is good. Overall, this is a warm, distinct scent that blends some opposing notes very beautifully. It is comforting and somewhat foody. I don't get sexy, but my husband would beg to differ.

Oh my god. I must wright two reviews on this, because on me and my bf Blue agave & cacao are so different. On me it opens spicy, little bit sharp. Weirdly but cinnamon hits at the beginning and never disappears. Thanks god I do love cinnamon. I feel bittersweet cacao as well and a slightly touch of vanilla. Really comforting and war, definitely for a cold weather. On my bf it smells better (from my opinion). It starts with warm flowers and vanilla, with slight touch of grapefruit and red berries. There is no spicy/warm stuff I felt on me. On him it's plainly fresh and sweet, but manly enough. It's a masterpiece. Lovely.

I love this scent. I get an opening of citrusy-lime that's so tropical and summery. Then I get a soft floral scent that dries down to cinnamon and cocoa. It's beautiful. I wish it lasted longer. I bought a portable atomizer and I reapply at work, because I miss the scent when its gone. I've also layered it with JM's Orange Blossom, which to me is reminiscent of a Lilac bush in full bloom. It seems I can get the BA&C scent to last longer when I layer it. I've also tried it with the Pomegranate Noir and Grapefruit fragrances, but I don't like those dry-downs. This is by far my favorite Jo Malone fragrance so far.

Still not sure if I like this one.. When I tested it I loved it. But now, sometimes, there are days its smell reminds me of a crayon. Having said that, it adds a very elegant touch when combined with other JM fragrances. So far I have combined this with Peony blush and Suede, Earl Grey & Cucumber, and the result was amazing and it also prolongs their longevity. I can't wait to layer it with other JM perfumes. Also when combined with Yves Rocher's Moment de Bonheur (that imo ressembles a lot Chloe's EDP)it evolved into a powdery, sweet flowery fragrance which was an unexpected and pleasant surprise!!

This is one of my favorite frags of all time. Sillage and longevity is better than many other JM offers, but I still wish it lasted longer with this one. The opening is very bright and sparkling. Paired with the cardamom this gives it cola vibes at the beginning. Dries down to an intoxicating and warm cacao with some underlying musk. I overspray the hell out of my neck and hair and am enveloped in a delicious bubble of warm sweetness for about six hours. Skin scent only through the 8 hour mark and then disappears. Overall it’s divine and I never want to live without it. 8.5/10

This was love at first sniff for me. Every time I reach for it, it smells better. The predominant note is linden blossom. It takes me back 50 years, to a day I spent in Wales, collecting and pressing leaves and blossoms. The smell of linden, pressed on high quality card came flooding back. The scent simmers on my skin like a small, flickering, purple flame. The chocolate and cardomon blend in beautifully. I can't imagine ever being without it, and have a stash of it as a hedge against ebay profiteering, which is becoming an inevitabilty when fragrances are discontinued.

This reminds me of those gourmet dark chocolate bars -- lime and spices mixed with a chocolate note that is sweet but also has a woody/unsweetened cacao character, like baking chocolate. Delicious but not too sweet, the spices and florals are very well blended with the cacao note. The linden and other flowers make it breezy and fresh, the cacao warms and smooths the composition, and the spices make it stand out as an accent, just as spices do in cooking. Surprisingly fresh! Great gourmand scent for summer or hot weather. Wearable any season, any time!

Although this only provides about 30 minutes of absolute bliss, I will always have this festive, spicy cacao scent in my collection. I’ve never smelled anything like it. Wish Jo Malone would create an equivalent for Jo Loves; longevity in that lineup is incredible. Update: Why would I ever want to smell like anything else? This is so good, it’s ridiculous. Maybe I’ll sell all my other perfumes and stock up on this, because you know it’s only a matter of time before it’s discontinued.

I cannot describe this scent for the life of me, and I LOVE IT for that! I have not smelled anything like this. I think everyone needs to have at least one "what the heck did I just smell" perfume in their collection. Despite its weirdness, I think it is really pleasant and addicting, not a pungent WTF scent. I do not use this often because I can't buy from JM archives. I bought this before it was discontinued in stores. I wanna save and preserve the juice for as long as I can lol

This is a beautiful fragrance that sparkles and shines on my skin. It is very blue and rainy smelling-- but sweet. The cacao infuses it with an earthy element which makes it great for every day. The entire concoction reminds me of a hot cocoa near the sea! ( spiked with some booze?? ) I do wish the sillage and longevity were greater but that will not stop me from purchasing a second bottle of this! Would love to layer this over something else--- possibly with Jo Malone Bluebell.

I want this sooooo bad. It's warm and spicy but also feels like you're wearing a spritzy, fizzy cocktail?? Like coke and lime. Somehow suitable for cozy days and also nights out. I've visited the Jo Malone store at the mall countless times just to sniff this. It's so unique and addictive!! I feel like flirting with everyone when I wear this, just so they can smell me. It's not as fleeting as many Jo Malones are, but its still pretty intimate.

Oh my goodness..... This one is absolutely delicious. Beautiful almost raw cocoa and definitely undertones of blue agave (my face wash got blue agave in it and i can smell it in this one too). It is sweet and spicy, raw and delicate, sexy but decent.... I adore it. I love the body cream more than the spray, as it lasts good 10-12 hours on me. This is definitely me in a bottle, and my boyfriend loves it on me.

I've gone through bottle after bottle of Blue Agave & Cacao and I still love it completely. It's sultry, sweet, spicy, and, best of all, unique! The chocolate is subtle, the agave is boozy, and the combo is alluring and confident. This layers nicely with several of my other Jo Malones, but I just love it worn alone, day or night, any time of year.

if anyone misses vanille galante by hermes, id say this would be a good alternative. both are difficult to find but at least this ones not discontinued (hermes please bring vanille galante and brin de reglisse back!!) as for the scent itself, one of the most beautiful chocolate/ vanilla scent ive ever put my nose on

I like it though it s not a super scent on it s own, they sold it for me with the 154 to combine both. The mix is really interesting! More edgier. Pomegranate Noir is by far a fav. Too much alcohol in all of them. Some are kind of unique but for the price, you can sure find a better perfume.

I heard this is going to be discontinued! I am so sad! It is a really nice warm and spicy scent with floral all around. It is quite unique in the Jo Malone collection of scents, in my opinion. It has a chocolate vibe, with vetiver, musk, cinnamon, and more in the base of it.

soooooo in love with this!!! i bought this few days ago in JoMalone shop in duty free @ BKK airport. i feel sexier, more independent when wearing this. the days would be perfect if i could wear this scent and sitting at my favourite cafe, reading Nicholas Sparks' novels :)

This is my signature scent. If hand writing letters was still common, I would scent my letters with it. I will wear this all the time, except in summer out of the courtesy of others. I personally think it smells like corn after a while but not unpleasantly so.

Got a sample of this and just love it! Unique cocoa and spice scent and lasts very well on me. I will be interested in layering it with other Jo Malone samples but it does not really need to be layered. It is wonderful as is.

this perfume made me understand what niche perfumery means.it was love at first sniff and it actually helped me appreciate the existence of citruses in a perfume!fresh and sweet and perfect for summer! a must-have!

This is truly unique. I have never failed to receive complements both from males and females. Staying power is excellent if used with the body cream on fresh bathed skin. I hope this is never discountinued.

I love love love this ..it’s work good with my body chemistry .. even it’s a cologne but it stay for hours on my clothes and had a good sillage more than nishe fragrance ..i’m in love with this brand

This is probably my favorite all-time scent! This is not a sickly sweet, bubblegum gourmand. It is sexy, sultry, deep, mysterious. Spicy chocolate, warm skin musk... sooo beautiful!!!

This smells amazing layered with Jo Malone white mint and jasmine... not sure if they make that one anymore. I used to wear that combo everyday and it was perfection!

Very warm and sensual. Possibly on the more mature side, but I think a young woman can absolutely pull it off with confidence. Very unique and beautiful scent. 8.5/10

One of my all time favorites and I owned hundreds of perfumes from designer to niche. This one will always have a special place in my perfume collection.

Love this scent. Mmmm.... also layered with white jasmine & mint. Gives it a fresher kick. Love it alone or layering!

A very different scent which stands out. My man loves it. It gives off a sunny feeling, definitely Latin nights.

If you ever smelled Coca Cola gummy candy, this is how Jo Malone Blue Agava & Cacao smells like.

Such a beautiful scent. Alas, it only lasts about an hour on my skin and silage is intimate.

The first time I applied this, I was not impressed. Saying that, when I try/sample a new fragrance...I wear it for at least a couple of days unless I completely hate it. By the third day, I thought much more highly of this fragrance. On first spray, it does present itself leaning feminine. The cacao is there to let you know what you are in for, but so is a floral component. Not overly floral, but enough for me to initially doubt if this is truly unisex. I still liked it, but it was a “meh”. Where this started to really impress me was the dry down. It became a smooth creamy sexy fragrance. By the third day of wearing it, I really appreciated it. Cacao, vanilla and cardamom blended very well. It isn’t loud...it just works...a truly confidant man could really pull this off. Projection is slightly below average...but I consider this a cuddle bubble DNA. Longevity is average. I would wear this year round easily to most occasions...making it very versatile. Easily unisex unless you’re the guy that doesn’t mess with anything floral. Is it a run out and buy immediately...no. Is it worth sampling for a day or two...yes.

First off, I am a man's man. So, why am I writing a review for JM Blue Agave and Cacao? Yes, it is a fairly sweet almost gourmand fragrance that bends toward the female side of the spectrum. However, the chocolate note in this cologne is sublime! There are lots of other good chocolate fragrances, cough Thierry cough Muggler cough. The reason this one wins the battle for my hard earned dollar is really the elegant simplicity of this juice. When fall comes I can't wait to bring out this one. The cactus (agave) gives it a slight think tequila note. PRO TIP: Try layering this with Pomegranate Noir for what is easily my very most complimented scent! Yes, this out-generates Creed Aventus in compliments when combined. I don't even bother to wear it without the Pomegranate anymore as it is just so much better with it. So, buy this and pomegranate and thank me when the compliments start coming your way. My Score Without Pomegranate Noir: 7.5 My Score with PN: 9.5
