Bronze Wood & Leather

A luxury handbag carried by the well-groomed stubbled hot boyfriend; a christmas present, birthday or anniversary surprise from the knight in shining armor with his brand new horse saddle still attached. Luscious makeupy powdery raw cowhide. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....... Ps: Gucci Guilty Absolute is a totally different beast from this. I don't get the similarity at all. That one has a harsh, overly synthetic, chemical-like bandaid, gasoline, black tar and greasy car mechanic smell. This one is a very refined aromatic, powdery and realistic tan leather. WORLDS APART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tried today at Heathrow airport and bought it immediately. Of the 10 Jo Malone fragrances I own this moved right into my 2nd favourite and I say that as someone that generally doesn’t like Leather as a featured note. The good news (for me) is that this really isn’t about the leather, I’ll have to wear it over the next few days to get a better feel for it, but initial impression is nothing like Gucci Absolute which I dislike and it has excellent lasting power as I used 3 sprays about an hour before my 7 hour flight and it was still going strong when I got off

This remind of GGA which is my favorite leather so naturally I love this. Kudos to Jo Malone for making it perfom pretty well. Animalics make it slightly challenging to those who find them hard to stomach. I think GGA is still my pick because it has that gasoline motor oil vibe but this isn't too far behind. I can actually smell the "bronze" accord which is a cool twist. Scent 7.6/10 Performance 7/10

As my gf put it: 'Harvey Specter would wear this'. It really is a classy scent this. Deep, nuanced and it means business. Similar to my memory of Gucci Guilty Absolute, but much more refined and comfortably wearable for most. This perfume calls for a really special occasion or it might make an ordinary day out feel like one. :)

I don't get it, people keep comparing fragrances that are not even close to similar. BW&L smells nothing like GGA, yes, both have a leather note but that does not make them smell the same. Any how, I like the opening, not sure about the dry down, there is something synthetic about Jo Malones fragrances in the drydown.

Does it have some resembelance to Dark Lord and Gucci Guilty Absolute? YES it does but this one is soo much smoother so much more wearable and well blended all in all. Just AMAZING, smooth smoky leather with vetiver undertones and a slight juniper freshness like in Dark Rebel from Varvatos..

I really love this scent. It does smell boozy at the beginning and becomes very leathery later. The perfume lasts on my skin super long probably because I often wear it during winter days

I do like it but it just lacks creativity. The problem is, as others have already said, this has already been done by another house - Gucci. The similarities are strong with this one, the main difference seems to be that this is just less intense and much smoother. And while that might be good for most perfumes, I find something lighter generally worse because you'll need more sprays and it feels rather cheap. Also, the rough element is part of Gucci Guilty Absolute because it fits this type of scent very well. The smoothness takes it away in a way that's not necessarily good. I always found Guilty Absolute to be something for a biker, a bad boy with a leather jacket or just someone who doesn't care. By taking away the offensive part, you also take away the character. I get why it's been done this way and I still like it very much. Sometimes a less strong scent might be the right choice. The opening is still quite strong and the drydown is just so smooth, almost sweet, that you feel like you can wear this almost anywhere anytime. And unfortunately that's just where the problem starts for me. Strong, almost sickening, leather. That's what this is supposed to be. Rough, challenging and different. But this is just a much, much toned down leather that smells as if you sprayed Gucci Guilty Absolute two days ago.

After diving deep into the exclusive range of high-end creations, I came to the conclusion that Jo Malone's Bronze Wood and Leather fares better after the drydown than any Xerjoff, Kilian, Parfums de Marly, the exclusives by Chanel and Arts & Matières when it comes to leather-and-smoke. I tried Orto Parisi's Cuoium and as great as the first hours are, the remaining scent after 8 hours disappointed me. Notably with Maison Crivelli and Kilian, the leather fragrances dissolve on my skin after a mere couple of hours. The leather in Bronze Wood stays strong, straight out of the bottle. It's actually excellent for an affordable fragrance. A big pro for me is that the leather is not tamed by amber. I want unapologetic leather.

I love smoke. And this fragrance does not perform poorly on me. I can still smell this very well after applying this more than 5 hours ago. Oddly enough, or maybe not that odd, this fragrance has the ability to enhance the best notes in Le Labo's Labdanum 18. Bronze wood takes away the fecal notes from Labdanum and mixes amazingly. I'd dare to mix this scent with about every musk containing gourmand fragrance. Right now, I have mixed a very intriguing composition of Bronze wood, Grey Labdanum, Oriental Express [Mugler] and Shalimar. The result is a labdanum-hinted patchouli smoke incense bomb that lasts crazily long. It is Bronze wood that adapts really well. I'd dare to say I would not hesitate to buy another bottle.

This smells good. It's strong. It's exactly what it sounds like― wood, leather, smoke. I don't know if it's wearable on it's own, or would just take a certain kind of person to wear it. On it's own, it leans extremely masculine. However, I think this is a perfect layering fragrance. It feels like it could add edge/depth/darkness/unisex appeal to any fragrance in a collection you find too simple/plain/light/feminine/generic. I'm excited to layer it with other stuff I have. I imagine that if you layered this with Dear Polly, you'd get Mixed Emotions.

One of those... tries to imitate Gucci GA. But I looked closely, and it wasn’t original at all, rather it resembled other mundane things. ⸻ After months, when you don’t compare it to Gucci, it becomes very good — a good gift, safe warm depth, similar to many, but among those many dark scents it’s one of the best. A Tom Ford type, but without the cherry acidity I dislike, and instead with more leather.

Every time I wear this my mom accuses me of smoking. Take from that what you will. This is a beautiful masculine scent that juxtaposes my femininity perfectly. The leather is a prominent base, hand in hand with the vetiver, the juniper and grapefruit makes for a very attractive and charming winter weather scent.

I can see the resemblance between this and Gucci Guilty Absolute. This fragrance smells similar, but a little on the lighter side. More leather. GGA has more woody and patchouli notes that give it the harsher initial smell. I like both of these, but I tip my hat to Gucci's creation.

Too bad this one is discontinued. It's a great wearable leather with a very nice barn-like animalic edge and smokiness, without being overwhelmingly heavy and concentrated. It also lasted like 10 hours on me. Pleasant surprise.

Superb base and fixative to her Velvet Rose and Myrrh & Tonka. A little too alcoholic and linear on its own. Beautifully elegant though.

Softer version of GGA. Good one with less sillage and longevity. But really, there's no any reason to buy it having GGA.

Like most Jo Malone scents it makes a good first impression, but then mellows out, kind of like a flare. While it lasts it is decent... The top notes are slightly boozy...it actually reminds me of Dolce and Gabbana Velvet Exotic Leather. But the D&G is so much better. Once the booze moves on it mellows to a woody leather. And yes, it does smell somewhat of Gucci Guilty Absolute. I own GGA and love it, so I know very well what it smells like. Bronze Wood and Leather is definitely inspired by GGA... Like an attempt to make GGA more palatable for the mass market. No strong medicinal smell here. GGA is so much better though, and GGA has the richness and longevity that BW&L sorely lacks. BTW: What is up with the third picture in the ad campaign? Is the guy going to roll the girl down the hill in the wheel of branches? haha.

This is like a lighter version of Gucci Guilty Absolute for men. They both have that prominent leathery note, only Gucci Guilty absolute has more of a sharper leather scent, whereas Jo Malone is softer. The leather note in Gucci Guilty is sharper and stronger that I could almost sense a shoe polish note in it. It's more literal and pure, so I think Jo Malone would be a great alternative for those who find Gucci Guilty a bit too much. I much prefer Gucci Guilty though, if not only for the basenote/drydown of it. Gucci Guilty Absolute has that generic men's cologne like note that unveils as that gorgeous leather opening subdues. Jo Malone doesn't have it, although the drydown is still pretty dull...

I don't get too much smoke from this, but there is a little bit. Once it dries, there is a warm, mildly animalic accord that could be reminiscent of bronze, so that must be why it's in the name. The wood and leather are both very soft. There's nothing rough, rugged, or raw in this fragrance. I'm not blown away by this, but there's nothing I dislike about it either. It's an okay choice for a fall afternoon.

Another one of those bipolar scents. Got a strong bergamot opening then poof! Nothing for about ten full minutes then I get some sweet scent I can’t really distinguish. Bergamot is back in a blend with something. No significant leather or smoke. Something along the woody side that’s combined with bergamot to make a sweet sourish scent. Weird. Pleasant but just okay for me.

All I could smell was very strong leather and spice, I thought I would love this but it was just too much, I personally found it really heavy and cloying. It's what I imagine "sex panther" from anchorman would smell like...just strong and awful, I love woody notes but couldn't detect any other notes on my skin besides the leather and strong spice, I didn't find it to be a cozy scent like I thought it would be. It's very loud and heavy and unfortunately (or fortunately for my bank balance) this is just a no for me..

Tried it on paper, and at first it was somewhat pleasing, but obviously not an instant buy. It's too familiar, been done before. Besides, when juniper dies a bit, you are left with just the synthetic leather, like a cheap bag you buy as a temporarily measure. Another half an hour later it dries to sweetesh vetiver - nice, but rather boring, you can get vetiver notes in something more original.

Calling this fragarnce "for women and men" is a stretch, this is very masculine. Very dark and smoky, there's a sweet boozy "leather" note that I'm not really fond of, it's not very realistic nor pleasant for me. The scent is very original and daring, with the disadvantage of being maybe too strong and unusual. Probably best worn in cold weather or night (in warm weather I imagine this being a little nauseating), this doesn't smell like your manly barbershop fragrance that a leather jacket biker would wear, on the contrary, it fits much better a well dressed old school gentleman (certainly not for people under 30). Note that this is a controversial scent, your average civilian might will be at least a little confused if not repulsed, so you have to spray with moderation and wear it confidently or people will think your clothes absorbed the smell of a burnt lemon cake you tried to bake.

I sampled this on my arm earlier today and loved it - at first... The grapefruit scent really cut through the cosy richness of the scent and it was a compelling duo - warm, luxurious, with a zesty edge.... As it dried down it became more leathery, a little more masculine and woody (ooohh...lovely)... and now, three hours later (good staying power by the way!) It smells of that old fashioned pink soap bar that you got in the toilets at school. Oddly medicinal and bit like the scent of just-opened emulsion paint. My cat recently came back from the vet and he smelled like this too. I find this so unpleasant. I'm really disappointed.

I really hate how Jo Malone just replaces the fragrances that don’t sell well within two years. Post the massive take over they had fragrances for the ages, where these fragrances lasted years and years ( with some still being favorites) with minimal reformulations or revamping of their style. This is not Bath and body works! Get it together! if you want a bestseller make a best seller! but give it time on the market before you take it out! Jo Malone isn’t a money making pit!! It is a luxury fragrance company, not a fast food joint.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this fragrance (other than there being little to no leather note). It is woody, spicy, petrochemical. The trouble is, I've smelt this a thousand times before. That said, it does fill a gap in their current line up, so I suppose...If you want a leather perfume, there are much better ones out there (Hello Tom Ford). If you are after a fairly generic, masculine wood/spice scent, there are cheaper options that are just the same. I love a lot of Jo Malone London, but this is a miss for me.

Mixed feelings. I do enjoy this offering but I feel its a bit bland, like theres something missing. On me, the leather dissipates rather quickly so overall it becomes a birch/vetiver scent. I'm not really seeing the similarities to the Gucci counterpart. This fragrance feels citric, woodier and is overall more refined wheras the Gucci is quite synthetic and feels balsamic - it also can be bothersome to those nearby as it can smell like shoe polish. The hunt for the perfect leather continues.

This is a subtle leather that is a little smoother and sweeter than the other ones mentioned below (Tom Ford, GGA etc). If I were to compare it to anything, it might actually be Fahrenheit parfum, but even then it's much quieter than even that. While it's not the most distinctive leather scent on the market (I prefer my leathers to be more aggressive), I think it's quite refined and elegant; a sweet leather skin scent if you can imagine it.

This is just right. I’m a bit perplexed by it though. I don’t get the smoky, vetiver comparison to either Dark Lord or Gucci. Often when seeing compared to scents, I have to go in with an open mind because 9 times out of 10 I do not get the comparisons that other get. I get a processed, modern leather mixed with soft, creamy woods. Quite nice and very easy to wear. Perfect daily wear scent IMO. I just wish it lasted a bit longer.

I was really impressed with that within first test - dark, dirty good quality leather, which fades in 15 min and opens with floral woody notes, soft and elegant. I feel even some osmanthus vibes here... Beginning might be similar to Gucci, but opening is absolutely different, Gucci is much more flat and boring.

Wow. I have nothing to say to this other than disappointment. It opens with a loud/obnoxious top note of dissatisfaction, with a sickenly smoky smell. Putrid. Could work as an air freshener for my barbecue after I’m finished using it. Other than that, I’ve smelled AXE deodorant far better than this.

Notes missing on this page: Has cypriol, not sure what else. Pretty good, similar to Kilian Dark Lord. Less Jasmine/floral in dry down, which makes it a no-go for me. I prefer Dark Lord. I think it's an extremely upper-crust scent that you will enjoy. Very good work by the perfumer. Praise.

Own it’s own I don’t think it’s a fantasy rich scent, but pairing with some black fruits it turns into a miracle! Anything with blackcurrant, blueberry, black grape Would complement it so so much, this is definitely a great base to start to mix your own scent! ☝🏽❤️

The dry down is somewhat synthetic and familiar. Like all these fragrance makers are shopping at the same chemical supermarket. This would be GREAT if it were $39.99 or $49.99...it's much more. Longevity is fair. You be the judge.

Amazing fragrance very leathery, out of all the Jo Malone fragrances I have this is the best Also works great as a base with issey miyake ambre noir. Definitely one of my favourite woody leathery fragrances.

Smokey leather bergamot last for about 3 hours. I mean it’s ok nothing mind blowing. Good layering fragrance performance can be better for price point . Sample before buying not a safe blind buy.

I smelled this in the store today on paper and really like it. It's a nice blend of the woods and leather, definitely unisex, and would combine really well with other perfumes for layering.

It does NOT smell like Gucci Absolue!! It might be similar, but not identical!! Jo Malone's is much much better depth and quality.

Sweet incense and leather, only a slightly fruity touch. Very nice, but too masculine for me. Well done, it is a very nice scent.

This is so glorious. Inky. Leathery. Putrid. Sexy. Smells very similar to aspects of Black Velvet Café. Just more expensive.

It smells reminiscent of Midnight In Paris EDP. Smooth and beautiful but nothing too special for the price.
