Ginger Beer Cologne

Great opening notes that I love, and my girlfriend described as simply 'hot'. Dries down really nicely, to a deep, woody and musky scent that lasts 10+ hours, albeit with weakening sillage. The beautiful ginger opening is a real showstopper. I love the hints of cinnamon that show through here, and wish they continued for longer, as I don't really get much from them after about 15 minutes. But, this doesn't mean gets any worse. Instead, a rich, intoxicating old-money velvetier leaves a hint of the previous fun while the restrained bottom notes take over. It's sophisticated, without being overbearing, and an excellent winter-pick-me-up before getting back to work. In classic Jo Malone style, the purchasing experience and packaging is excellent. After a brief visit to the Jo Malone counter a week before, I left with 5+ samples, and while there are not samples of this fragrance, it stuck with me, and I returned back a week later and purchased it from the same lovely store attendant. Again, I was showered in samples, and highly recommend extensively sampling the Jo Malone range if available and located near you. The bottle is of a very high quality, with an excellent, heavy top that does feel of it's price, and an excellent atomiser. Let's be honest, USD $90 for 30ml does have a fair bit of bite, especially for younger enthusiasts like me (18yo). However, I'm very happy with the purchase, and while it might not be a signature scent for me, it certainly takes a welcome spot in my growing collection.

This one stayed longer in clothes than in my skin but, I don't mind I really love it, I layered it with it siblings musk memento. If I can describe the smell is like fizzy soda, more like ginger beer. I smell a lot lot of ginger and citron bomb. Under that layer a hint cinnamon and oak give really expensive but comforting experience. It falls into more sweet kind of masculinity which me and my husband enjoy. It's christmassy but not gourmand clingy, not complex either. but It's classic and sniff-catching. Love.

Ginger Beer by Jo Malone does smell really good, but the lasting power and projection are just too weak for how much they priced this fragrance. I ended up cancelling my purchase after trying it in person. Its sister, Emerald Thyme, is stronger in terms of performance and it also smells good. But my expectations are just too high for both of these.

Yes it got that sweet spicy and airy like you take a glug of ginger beer, but the real deal is when it lingers in the air. My colleagues and clients can't stop mention that the scent kicks their noses (softly). In the air it is warm and sweet but have a hint of freshness and cleanliness, which is crowd pleasing. 9/10 for me.

Really lovely ginger fragrance. Definitely a ginger beer vibe in the opening, with a suprisingly good cinnamony drydown. Pair this with a cute bottle and reasonable price tag, I reckon this is a very good fragrance. (second best ginger after G and B Ingenious Ginger) 10/10

love for the first sniff. I just bought this perfume and I can't stop going back to it. it keeps on changing a little bit, wasn't really impressed with the longlesty. Its a sense of Myself and I kind a perfume. however, its worth it.

At first it’s smells like fizzy ginger beer. It’s unisex, although it becomes sweeter in the middle, like a sugar rimmed glass of ginger ale. For an hour you’ll smell like you’ve showered in ginger ale, then the scent turns woody and the vetiver comes to the front. At this point it becomes a skin scent. Every other sniff smells woody, every other sniff smells like ginger ale. I’m impressed how fresh this fragrance is, without becoming a lemon-fragrance, and how sweet it is, without becoming a ginger cookie fragrance. If you like gourmands and you like the scent of ginger shots, ginger beer, ginger ale etc, definitely try this one. For a fragrance, it’s very close.

This opens very strong and fresh, smells like ginger and stale beer at the same time (but in a good way, which I'd never imagine if someone told me to imagine a stale beer smell but Jo Malone absolutely made it work!). Then very quickly that freshness is completely gone and the smell becomes much weaker and also warmer, kinda woody/ambery. Very pleasant scent which comes in a beautiful bottle, I just wish it stayed as strong as it did in the opening. Turns too weak too soon, way too weak even for Jo Malone standards.

Smells exactly like a fizzy ginger beer in the opening. That doesn't last long though, after only a couple of minutes it turns into a woody and slightly sweet, Earl grey type of scent. Longevity is pretty good, I get a couple of hours in hot weather. It radiates quite beautifully. I like it, but it lacks originality after the initial ginger beer blast.

Smells chic and expensive, I love it but I don’t feel like it’s a summer scent

There's a beautiful tangy top note opening that lasts for about a minute, then it goes straight down to a woody dry-down that has nooothing to do with ginger beer. It turns quite floral at some point, in a rich, dark way which I actually like. I just wish this fragrance was more ginger-forward, light and sparkling rather than dense and dark. I hate ambroxan with a passion like @KBreckenridge below, but I'm not smelling any ambroxan here

This just smells dirty. I was expecting something sweeter and spicier. All I smell is vetiver on vetiver with zero balance. I would not have believed this was a JML if I hadn't bought the sample kit from the site myself. It's obnoxious.

As I wrote in my previous review of Orange Marmalade, Jo Malone continues to be a successful brand because the company understands what they are good at, and they are especially good at UK-style fragrances with a decidedly country vibe. Ginger Beer is a new fragrance fragrance, but Jo Malone's first ever fragrance was Nutmeg & Ginger, and they have also a Ginger Biscuit which has been so popular they bring back for some holiday collections. So this definitely in their wheelhouse. This was released in the summer (2024) as part of Jo Malone's limited edition "scented mementos" collection but I find it to be quite autumnal. It's warm and bright (like the feeling of warming a wool sweater on a sunny but cool fall day) and the fragrance does indeed have a nostalgic quality to it. There is something about it that smells charmingly vintage, like something a character would wear on a long past season of Coronation Street. There's a sweetness to it, but I don't mean that in a gourmand way. This is a fragrance that a warm and caring person would wear, like a nursery school or kindergarten teacher would wear. I could see Diana wearing this in her Sloane ranger days before she married Charles. This has been my most worn fragrance this season, and my autumn wardrobe now amounts to 20 fragrances. I actually find this to be quite lasting for a cologne (Jo Malone is not a house known for the longevity of its fragrances but to be fair they are colognes, they are never going to last like an EDP or even an EDT). The bottle is also delightful, something that one would want to keep even once the juice is gone, even if you weren't a mad fragrance collector.

I fell in love with this at first sniff yesterday and immediately bought a bottle. The opening is beautifully light, fresh and sparkling. The ginger and spice starts to come through stronger and warmer on the dry down as it warms on my skin. I could smell it on skin for around three hours and can still smell it on the shirt I wore yesterday. I can’t comment on projection or silage yet as I haven’t been around anyone. I think this could easily work as a unisex scent.

I get a very woody scent with some whiffs of ginger and vetiver. Very diluted, almost mute. Skin scent. For a few minutes almost like stale beer. It goes away fast. I don't know what is the intention here, other than a fast money grab without performance. A sample is enough for me.

I sprayed this at a store waited 20 minutes to let it develop on my skin. I was ready to pull the trigger, then the bad news hit me: ambroxan. I can't stand ambroxan, so sadly this didn't work for me.

Very very light, as expected with an EDC concentration. Smells fantastic though!

To me, It smells exactly like Dolce Gabbana the one. I like them both.

Does anyone feel that this smells like Versace Red Jeans?
