London Rain Black Cedarwood & Juniper

I am not sure how to describe this scent based on the notes but here's the description of the feelings it evokes...it's a thing of beauty...mysterious, inviting, unusual, bold, confident, fresh. It is definitely not for those who like floral aromas, this is very woody and sweetish, "humid", borderline masculine, which is what I like. I was debating between this one and Bvlgari Eau Perfumee Au The Blanc or Rouge but settled for this one, since where I live Jo Malone is not very mainstream and I wanted a scent that is not so well known. Took me an hour at the store to pick a scent....almost settled for Wood Sage and Sea Salt but took this one at the last moment and glad I did. It is very different from what is out there.

This definitely is a woody scent with a touch of freshness becuase of the Juniper! It has the same vibe as jo Malones Orris & sandalwood, both woody but definitely not as earthy as the JM Orris scent. The dry down reminds of the smell of a book...yes a BOOK! Though , not of a very old book and not of a newly printed book, either! But if gives you this comforting feeling when you are at your home library, sitting comfortably in your couch with a warm blanket and a good book to read! :-)I love it combines well with other JM woody /Oud scents or florals!

If I ever get married someday in the future, this will be my Wedding fragrance, I believe is discontinued, I only own a 30ml of this but this is so good, I could only wear this for a unique occasion, it was gifted to me so is very special, this is Dark, spicy, woody, fresh, manly and a little fruity.

Perfect wooden fragrance, early summer's walk in the island where juniper and cedarwood grow. Such a pity that it is lead by cynical marketing as usual: why not EDP? Every fragrance originally comes in EDP concentration, the rest is pure marketing reasons.

Love this! Great unisex fragrance with some freshness and individuality. I don't have anything else like this in my arsenal and I find this pretty (but not girly - and so I'll add it's "handsome" too :) Uplifting, different and so well balanced.

It smells like Christmas. Very nice scent! Juniper is definitely the prominent note in this one.

Layer it with Declaration d'Un Soir Cartier for men. You're welcome ;)

I received compliments the first time I wore this- I think it’s really suitable for someone like me (early thirties woman wearing for casual daytime), but also could be great for men, more mature men and and women, and nighttime use. I was told that it gives a warm, wispy scent of cashmere, coziness, and fireplace, very noticeable but not too strong or headache inducing. It is signature scent material. It’s got as strong a silage as I can handle and the longest longevity I’ve ever had in a Jo Malone perfume. It goes absolutely great with my body chemistry; never turns unpleasant. However, this is not a clean smell- it’s more of a gourmand. It has the aroma of home and hearth and well-loved kitchens. I almost get a peppery, dark chocolate vibe. It’s earthy, warm, sensual. The dry down is both powdery and spicy, an unusual combination that my nose wants to discover. It’s intriguing, and something to wear if you want to be noticed. It’s powerful, confident, subdued, and strong. It’s mysterious and spiritual. It’s kind of alluring. I tried this when I was younger (26 or so) and it was so not right for me at the time. At that time I was wearing Bright Crystal Absolu by Versace. This is like the opposite of that, and that’s fine. For me, it’s basically what I wanted Burberry (Woman) to smell like on me- but that perfume was horrible on my body chemistry. As I’ve matured, I am glad that I stored it away and saved it for later. I will be using this a lot this summer.

Very interesting scent. Part of me loves it, part of me thinks its not masculine enough for me. In the end, I still wear it because it truly does smell so nice. Part of JM's limited London Rain collect, I bought it because it was unique. The Juniper comes thru immediately and stays throughout. It's what gives it the sweet, floral touch and doesn't let the scent get too spicy or woody. The Cedar is there, but quite understated and always in the background. Overall, I'm glad I splurged and got it, because it's lite and different, all the while being quite pleasant. But, like with all JMs, it has no real lasting power (though is better than most of her other stuff, this lasts longer), and the sillage goes only as far as the longevity. Perhaps not as masculine as some men would like, but I think men can pull this off on a warm spring/summer day. UPDATE: After wearing this on an off, mostly off, for the past year, I've been wearing it more regularly recently; must say that the sillage and longevity are A LOT better than other JM's (this might be because since Estee Lauder took over in '99 and Jo herself left a couple of years ago, their basic formulations might have have changed). Also, have received lots of compliments on this from strangers and passers by, more so than with any of my other fragrances, for what it's worth (or not).

It's a strange yet very attractive fragrance. I bought it based on the notes and because i longed for another (!) fresh cologne - not that i lack items of this genre....but you know i love variety. It is definitely masculine. Yet it has this cristal transparency and I can really smell/see the rain on the wood, i smell "humidity", kind of mossy earthy wet ground. The cedar is quite distinct but it's a cold one (forget the creaminess of cedar mingled with warm vanillas or tolu that are so common).... probably this is the juniper berries effect, that are bitter, balsamic, and cold. That said, i was about to label it "not my stuff" as I tend to love bright citruses in my summery fresh colognes and here i cannot smell any. However i couldn't stop sniffing my wrist/hand during all the 4 hours wear. I understood the cuming was playing it's trick: that little, skanky animalic note keeps you coming back to it. In a nustshell: a cold, masculine, linear balsamic fragrance that will get you hooked, no matter what.

I really looked forward to this fragrance from Jo Malone and frankly I'm a bit disappointed. It opens well and needless to say it smells very different on the card to my skin. That opening is fresh juniper and hints of sweetness against what I consider to be quite an odd cedar accord. I can't tell you why it's odd but as it settles down the woods go a little creamy(almost like there's a hint of vanilla in it) which to me is not indicative of the smell after it has rained, in London or anywhere else! I'll give it this though...it's long lasting for a Jo Malone and smells great at first, then I go off it then it comes back into favour for a cosy drydown. The smell doesn't transition or change really just my perception of it perhaps? The juniper does die away however after a bright, breezy opening. I don't know what Jo & her perfumers do to make things not smell like what they are but it's fascinating. I'll pass on this one it's a rare cedar that I won't wear and this is rare indeed.

Just got it as a gift from a friend with very good taste and who knows that I adore scents. I think this is a genius scent. Very sophisticated. A more expensive, luxurious TF Black Orchid. The scent is very organic, no sense of the syntetic here. Very dry and woodsy but not at all as my usual creamy sandalwood fiends (like the loud but Lovely Samsara or the slightly honeyed santal blush from TF)but DRY. Fortunatwly the Juniper saves the day and the combination of cumin, juniper and cedar is perfectly balanced. If you like it you LOVE it. Otherwise NOT. Very grown up and seductive in a self Confident kind of way. I need more of this.....

A natural but faint cedar scent. Not at all like the bright cedar notes found in many mainstream fragrances today. I don't get a scary body odor from there being cumin in here. As the reviewer belows states, it does smell of a well kept,well wooded and modern lobby with a clean breezeway running through it. I only wish it were stronger. It performs like a body spray. Suitable for any gender that is very much into wood aromas.

Tried this at Nordstrom earlier this week and frankly, I'm pretty unimpressed. It starts out very powerful and woody, but it quickly diminishes into a cedar/juniper skin scent. This is definitely the most masculine of the 4 recently released, but it's longevity is dubious (like all of Jo's other offerings). Wound-up getting a bottle of Blackberry and Bay and a bottle of Grapefruit.

UPDATE: Saw this again at Nordstrom and was told by a JM rep that this scent is back and now part of their regular line-up. It was originally part of the limited 'London Rain' set from Spring 2014, but of the 4 from that collect, this one is now available again.

Super sexy and sultry. It is quite smoky-- definitely agree with the comparison to Bulletproof! Too heady and masculine for me, but a lovely fragrance nonetheless... would love it on a guy!

Smells a bit like the drydown of Gritti supernova, but this one leans more masculine. I don't get any rain or water notes.

This scent is very intoxicating, almost addictive! I'm always smelling myself when I'm wearing it!

I really wanted to like this, as I'm a big fan of both cedar and juniper. Unfortunately, this doesn't read woody to me at all. On my skin it smells very powdery and sort of sickly sweet. To me it smells better suited to an older woman (I'm a 31 year old man). My girlfriend, whose opinion I usually have to ask when it comes to my fragrances, commented that she liked it as soon as I walked up to her, but I just can't bring myself like it. It actually becomes slightly headache inducing for me.

Preamble: I wanted to like this so badly. I've owned and loved about ten different Jo Malone fragrances, and the description for this sounded right up my alley. I went to smell it at the store, but they'd run out, and I talked myself into ordering this blind [along with Wisteria & Violet], which I've never done before. Another reviewer mentioned an out-of-place sweet smell coming from this they likened to vanilla...I'm getting a sickly-sweet synthetic smell, like bubblegum. I find bubblegum smells repulsive, but even if I didn't, it seems discordant in this fragrance, which is otherwise woody and on the masculine side. The bubblegum DOES go away, and what's left is kind of nice, but still not too interesting. Just soggy cedar and juniper--there's a hint of cumin, which I love, but in this case it's a rather stale cumin. I keep going back and forth. If it had been a gift, a sample, or much cheaper, I'd keep it and try to work with this one more by mixing it with other Jo Malone scents, and so on. [Actually, I DID try that, and it smells nice with JM's Saffron.] ...But for a $120 price tag, it needs to smell like magic on its own.

A very nice fragrance. I bought a full bottle based on initial feelings and I am glad that I did. It starts as a very sweet wood and really lifts my mood! The Juniper is strong, but so well done that it does not overwhelm. I really would be happy to wear this every day if I didn't own so many fragrances. My only issue is it's longevity. Jo Malone's more recent intense fragrance range have proved that it's possible to get the longevity. This one lasts about 2-3 hours on me before becoming undetectable. This is a real shame for such a fantastic fragrance. Having said that, even if you have a very large fragrance collection, even a small bottle of this one should have a place on your shelf! Right now, this is my 'settle at home with a glass of wine' fragrance. It's very relaxing and very uplifting.

I blind bought this because I got an incredible deal at FragranceNet, and I regret it. On my skin this is a loud, sugary sweet cumin mess. It smells like soap and blue notes mixed with sugar and cumin. Horrendous and utterly nauseating, at least on my skin. It’s not that it smells horrible, it just gives me gigantic headaches. You will like this if you like the crystallized/sugar DNA of Imaginary Authors fragrances, but I just cannot handle this. It is so utterly synthetic, loud, and metrosexual if not totally feminine. There are so many better fragrances out there guys and girls...... Rarely do I come across a fragrance that I despise, but this fragrance really does fit the bill. Avoid like the plague, even if you find it for 50% off like I did.

There's something addictive in this scent. Even though I thought it's maybe too masculine for me, I had to buy this one out of all Jo Malone collection. I regularly need to get a sniff from the bottle! It's a great woodsy scent, actually reminds me of a walk in scandinavian (juniper) forest in winter time, maybe that's why it's so dear to me. :) This is surprisingly heady even though it's light, in this case I'm glad the sillage is not too heavy. I'm trying layering with different perfumes to make this a bit more wearable (=feminine) for me. Juniper note is intense and lovely, I like the fragrance the most after 1 hour when it's gotten softer and more 'round'.

I don't see where reviewers find this too masculine. Perhaps the opening blast, but it settlles down extremely quickly to a low projection profile:- very gentle , slightly sweet cedar with perhaps vanilla bouncing around in the background. Sillage is minimal. My first impression is very positive though I"ll probably layer this with something with a little more citrus bite. Expect it'll be a nice daily wearer to the office. It is probably better suited to cooler months... UPDATE: I'm reaching for this one more and more. It has such a lovely vibe. It settles to a lovely mossy earthy pulse. I find it very relaxing to sleep to after a shower before bed.

The juniper note in this is gorgeous. That note is very strong in the beginning, and almost seems to be covered with rain water. The cedarwood then enters, and it's a damp/dark wood. At this stage, it goes too masculine on me. I can still smell the juniper when I sniff up close, but the sillage is all damp cedarwood. It does bring to mind night-time rain, and I think this perfume is very well done. It's not for me, but many people will appreciate it. Sillage is good, and it has done well on me as far as longevity. I'm going to say that it's also definitely unisex. More feminine in the beginning, and then it dries down more masculine.

There's something about many Jo Malone fragrances that give them a very similar vibe... They feel sort of traditional, oldschool, a bit like fancy soap. I feel like this is true of this as well. Does it smell like cedar and juniper? Sure. Does that mean it's super woody, resinous and rich? No... It's like they have a Jo Malone DNA as a base and then they "flavor" it with other things. This smells nice, a bit woody, ever so slightly sweet, clean and fresh, but it's just kinda safe and uninspiring to me. Really nothing wrong with it. Just a bit boring.

More crushed juniper needles than an intensely woody or cedar-y scent, It has the refreshing, rain water quality of the rest of this series, mixed with the interesting grapefruit, confier and spice scent of juniper. The spice is light, and doesn’t smell like strong cumin. I do enjoy the scent of juniper, and enjoy this scent (despite characteristic Jo Malone longevity and projection issues), but I would say that lovers of woody scents should look elsewhere. Mild like.

Today I took a sniff of the 3 new London Rain fragrances (White Jasmine & Mint is always around). Of the three, I liked the Black Cedarwood & Juniper the best. This fragrance is good to layer with for a bit of adventure. Nice alone, since I don't like strong fragrances, but also fabulous sprayed on top of Blackberry & Bay. Layered with a body cream, Black Cedarwood & Juniper does have staying power. Also try layering with Pomegranate Noir.

Upon first spray, I get the sense of a stone paved alley at night, wet with rain. Though there's no common notes, Black Cedar & Juniper actually reminds me of Atelier Cologne's Vanille Insensee minus the vanilla. I get very very nuanced hint of spice, which may be shadows of what could be pepper or cumin. This is soft like other Jo Malone fumes. I get maybe less than arm-length of projection.

This fragrance is a must-try. Didn't get to smell Angelica and Rain, (already knew white jasmine and mint smells like) but this line is creative, bravo Jo. Even this spicey little guy comes off fresh with the almost aquatic Juniper note hovering over the deep, cozy wood notes. Wears like shade, dark and refreshing. I put Blackberry and Bay over it, and.. All I can say is that I cried.

Yes, this has now become part of the permanent range which is wonderful news. I bought a full size bottle today, it starts off woody but then the juniper berries shine through. Very well blended and very smooth, soft cedar wood, not over powering at all. I love it. I also wear it mixed with the limited edition, Nashi Blossom cologne, this makes it more of a fresh scent.

A short lived fragrance which is creamy and basic... I applied 6 heavy sprays 0 - 2 hours - 2 inch projection. This is a creamy cedar fragrance which is very much like an entry level designer fragrance. Inoffensive and lacking quality. 2 - 5 hours - Close to the skin. Gets lighter and smoother as time goes on Very forgettable! Not for me

Just tried it today in Nordstrom, to me this scent does smell nice but as with most Jo Malone fragrances to me....it just does not last. I'd love to buy it but I"m really not sure. I might need to practically spray 20 sprays to get any longevity.

I bought this from a discounter strangely enough. Blind buy and it's become my favourite jo malone. Performance is fantastic im surprised by the comments because it lasts all day on me. What a gorgeous scent like sweet rain.

This is like a dopamine hit, in terms of longevity! You can use it as a mood uplifter, that lasts for 5 minutes and enjoy the scent, if you like the scent profile. But is not a fragrance.

This is utterly beautiful, it lasts forever on me (I'm a 24 year old male) and it is very unisex, it's warming and just so relaxing... Whys this so underrated? One of my favourites

I ended up buying the scent as a treat to myself but it truly does not last long at all...even if you spray 10 plus sprays...its fades away in seconds...

This reminds me of the smell of a smart hotel lobby. Interesting and not unpleasant, but it is not how I want myself to smell.

I love Jo and I enjoyed the Sugar & Soice Collection so I'm looking forward to these as well!
