Midnight Black Tea

I feel bad giving a positive review because this is so far out of my price range! But seriously, it is quite good. There's definitely a smoky lapsing souchong quality - almost meaty - to the black tea. It has heft and personality and the tiniest hint of floral sweetness. Lasting power is better than the average Jo Malone. Overall, this fragrance is like a finely tweaked version of Tea for Two.

The notes are very limited here, but this is not what labdanum smells like.. (It does come out towards the end though) This is one of the only ones that smell like the said tea, with a lot of honey-like vanilla (which is mentioned on the website) and secondary guaiac. Rather simple but very pleasant, my favorite of the collection <3

For how expensive this is I feel really ashamed to say that this was an impulse buy for me. I still don't know how to feel about this fragrance. I feel like its a bit too musky for my liking. I have had the bottle for a little over two weeks and only reached for it a hand full of times.

Okay this is maybe not quite adequately a review however initially back then I already brought myself and the money READY to buy this. Lately, I've been craving a black tea-based perfume, as I grown a bit bored of 'green-tea-Elizabeth-Arden-tail-coat' scents, every single damn time tea perfume came up, it's ALWAYS GREEN TEA and even worse they're trying to mimic EA GT. Smells good but it's like generic toilet perfume. The mall's, my office's toilet, even my cat toilet litter sand scent, I don't want to smell like I'm spending hours in toilet. MM Tea Escape was a happy surprise, I was saddened when MM Tea Escape was discontinued before I could even buy the full-size bottle so I treasured its small vial I had like a precious gem lol. Then one day, I came across an advertisement for a fragrance by JM on my Instagram, and there it was: Midnight BLACK TEA. My, I had such high expectations for it, imagining a delightful scent of warm black tea or fresh ice tea with a touch of sugar and midnight magic. "Whatever, as long it's smell like slightly black tea I'm ready to give you my dollar JM!" I thought was so eager to make the purchase however in this of economy, the price tag isn't cheap! Would I want to risk buying blindly? No, so I drive up to the JM store to try it and pick it up myself. There you go, when I sprayed it and took a whiff, I discovered it wasn't what I thought at all. NOTHING screams black tea. Not even the boring green tea even. Smelled as floral with woody oriental undertones, but no tea or whatever. I tried to convince myself that perhaps the tea note would appear on the dry down, so I foolishly hanging out in the mall for about 5 hours, just I didn't want to drive back home and suddenly the tea note come up and I'm regretting not buying since it's quite far. Unfortunately, even in the dry down, the fragrance become somewhat powdery but still none of any tea notes. I returned home feeling disappointed, having only managed to satisfy my longing with a watered-down black tea milk tea that had been sitting for too long from its ice melted away.

No tea, no labdanum. To me this just smells of generic "man cologne". Vaguely fresh and masculine, a little woody. Nothing special at all. Very disappointed.

As someone who is a heavy tea drinker, this scent did NOT evoke tea in any way.

Hmm.. an interesting collection of 'tea' theme frags from Jo Malone. I have tried them all as I used to work for the company for many years and this particular collection was one of the least popular ever launched. The sales staff always found it difficult to sell this range to customers despite the beautiful presentation and packaging, and there are far nicer frags in the JM collection for way less cost. It was as though a frag creator at head office decided one day 'let's do an experiment to prove how dumb some consumers can be, let's make a range of tea flavoured scents, sell them at crazy prices just to prove people think a big name and extortionate price is always reflective of quality, ha ha!' so they concocted this extremely mediocre range of tea inspired scents, most of which make the wearer smell like they're wearing musty clothes stored in old, wooden trunks! No wonder JM had to heavily discount the stock to get rid of it. The product quality at JM has generally gone downhill since Jo sold her company to Estee Lauder, now it's all about reformulating using much cheaper ingredients; many long time customers have abandoned the brand as they have noticed the difference in quality, and know there are better quality products out there offering much better value.

WHERE's the TEA? Soft, woody vanilla is all I'm getting. It's really pleasant and I like it but I am on a tea kick lately, so when I order a decant of a fragrance called Midnight Black Tea, I expect to be served tea. There's not even a suggestion of it here. Reminds me more of a slightly sweeter Guerlain L'Heure Bleue EdT.

This starts off rather dark, and smelling of something rich along the lines of patchouly. But to me the dry down smells of vintage face powder and lipstick! I don’t smell tea. I do like it a lot, it smells sort of old fashion in a non-suffocating great way, but I don’t think the price is justified .

This basically smelled like baby powder...like others, I get no tea notes at all.

Whole range is qiute synthetic and too expensive
