Primrose & Rye

I did something risky and blind bought this. I had some expectations because I thought the notes were so different, but I wasn't prepared to be so IN LOVE with this fragrance. It's absolutely beautiful. Top notes I smelled the corn instantly, not in an overpowering way, but it was the first one I noticed. Then in the middle I smelled this delicious expensive suncream scent, like sunbathing, your skin, but happy and better, together with something very green, very natural, summery (finally a summery fragrance with no fruit). The image it conveys is a slightly wet skin with suncream and traces of a vanilla ice cream smudge. Maybe also running in a grass field, for that sprinkle of nature. It settles with a suncream scent, with something poignantly green and woody notes. When I directly sniff it, I can't feel the corn anymore, but when I move around I get a glimpse of it. And the poingant green I feel only when I closely sniff. My god I can't wait to try more from JM! Update: everything I said, but it's veeeery woody and sunscreeny on the dry down!

I love this one. All the notes come to life and brighten my skin smell. Not super perfumey more clean and just good smelling. On me opens with vanilla not too sweet with a pretty floral, could be primrose but honestly have never smelled a primrose that I remember. The rye gives it some texture and I do smell some mimosa wafting in and out but it is light. I own the above Bronze Goddess that is compared to this and although they may share a vibe on my skin they wear completely different. This lasts just fine at least 5 or 6 hours. Is more of a skin scent then a sillage bomb does have some projection. To me it is a semi gourmand floral perfect for summer and possibly winter...we will see.

It opens up with a very crisp, sort of herbal, cereal-y feeling. Then, and here I know it's probably just me, it smells somewhat soapy, even though this feeling I got is temporary. The fragrance then settles to a beautiful warm, sunny, comforting scent which is definitely a floral with a strong gourmande twist to it due to the vanilla and also a slight herbal touch due to the cereals that makes you reminiscent of wheat or rye fields in the middle of july. Lasting power is pretty decent for a colony, projection not so much but it doesn't bother me as I like it delicate like this.

My second favourite out of the 4 fragrances I own from the English Fields Collection (sadly Poppy & Barley was sold out) with the first Honey & Crocus. The opening notes has a blast of the rye notes which smells like rolled oats and then dries down to the flowery vanilla notes. The scent comes off as a warm powdery scent but unfortunately the fragrance is not as strong as the other ones in the collection. This was a successful blind buy.

This scent is beautiful almost smells (coconut) but in the most beautiful way!, if you're a white floral lover you'll adore this!. I have to buy two perfumes from this collection and it is simply amazing! Projection is not the greatest! dry down is like a beautiful warm day and the vanilla just subtle and warm!, Such a lovely perfume! I had to buy this!!

This is my favourite from the line. I initially reserved the Poppy & Barley but when I went to pick it up, I had a change of heart. I much prefer this one...not as sharp but warmer and longer lasting. I smell coconut (even though it is not listed...must be the corn silk??) and mimosa. This will be great for summer!

I've been dying to test Jo Malone's English Fields series, hoping these scents would take me on an olfactory trip to the romanticized picture of the English countrysize I have in my head. And I'm happy to say this Primrose and Rye doesn't disappoint. I don't think a warm spring afternoon among English fields, or anywhere, actually smells like this - but it should! I can easily go along with the note from the brand in that this is an obviously "yellow" scent, though: it's a very sunny scent, all yellow flowers in a bakery setting of wheat and unsweetened coconut and vanilla. It's subtly sweet but not at all sugary, leaning gourmand without quite getting there. The florals aren't recognizable as primrose (who knows how that smells?), and the wheat isn't specifically rye, but it doesn't matter: it's very nice, really cosy and warm. Best in late spring and early fall, I think, when it's neither too hot nor too cold to enjoy a golden day out in the fields. The only negative, and it's not a small one, is that I'd like it to have much more presence. I have to use a lot more than my usual amount of sprays to get much of anything out of this one, and even with a generous application I have to sniff my wrist rather closely to really appreciate it beyond the very first minutes of the opening. Which is always a shame at this kind of price point, especially with a limited edition - I only have a decant and would like it to last me a while, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards at this rate...

This is a strange one. I feel definitely carnation like in L'artisan Parfumeur Oullet Sauvage and coconut, besides the rye and primrose. Absolutely Lovely and cosy. This is a scent that you need when wearing pajamas and drinking hot chocolate. Such a shame this one was a limited edition. BTW, the stone feeling of the bottle is weard, I don't really like it, as wel as completely opaque bottle with no chance to see how much juice is left.

It is sweet(there must be some coconut), warm, silky, creamy, hazy and a bit smoky. The scent of rye is obvious so you need to take some time to adapt it as wheat-like smell are very uncommon in fragrance. It reminds me of a relaxing afternoon tea in the fields with sunshine not so intense and it is the sweetness of macaroons make the perfume creamy ad silky, or a bed of quilt being dried in the bright and warm sunshine in dusk.

The honey is quite obvious and the almond is intensive as well. But I literally cannot smell the saffron and lavender (lavender, are you joking?). It is sweet but not too sweet probably because of the smell of wheat? Nothing special.

This perfume reminds me of the good ol' vanilla cone ice cream. It smells delicious but doesnt last more than a few minutes. The smell almost completely disappears from the skin in the first 30 minutes. Just like all Jo Malone perfumes, this one is also of a very poor quality for the price tag.

This smells like sunscreen and nothing else for the few minutes until it disappears altogether. Anybody who has baked with rye knows that the grain has a wonderful smell...and this is not it. Seriously, shame on this company for this zero-effort product.

This fragrance is summer in a bottle. Covers absolutely the conception of its creation. It is sunny, bright, so elegant. It was one of those 'love from first sniff'. I immediately get coconut aroma upon first application. I am not very big fan of coconut in general, but this one develops so beautifully on my skin, next I get the vanilla, very realistic one, it is more like an extract, vanilla comes next surrounded by some kind of smokiness as well, the mimosa is coming next which gives a little sweetness to the whole composition. I am not familiar with the aroma of rye, so can't say anything about it, but I guess it is somwhere there. This fragrance gives very luxurious feeling, overall. Perfect for the summer day, or a summer night out. It could become signature one, as well. I see myself with it throughout the whole summer. Just to add, perhaps a summer night out nearby the sea. It will definitely compliment my vacation time.

I blind bought three fragrances from this line (this one, Honey & Crocus and Green Wheat and Meadowsweet). This is my favourite of the bunch. It definitely has a beachy vibe, but less obvious, not tropical. There is the tiniest hint of a sunscreen/coconut note but it's fleeting. Like I imagine you would smell this being piped in at a posh vacation resort that had white linen cabanas. It's definitely summery and warm and breezy and the most feminine of the three I now own. I would consider buying a back up of this one eventually. It transforms into a really nice cozy skin scent that brings out more of the vanilla and rye/woodsy notes. I was out in the cold winter wind today and every so often I caught a subtle scent of it wafting up and it was beautiful and made me think of sunny days.

This one is nice but straight away too feminine for me. Primrose and Rye is the most floral of the bunch but still not overt in any way, non of these fragrances are, they are delicate by their very nature. The opening is creamy, grain yet again that oaty, creamy almond milk with touches of mimosa and primrose. This dries down to a vanilla, soft but uninspiring and no doubt easy to find elsewhere. I wasn't expecting these to be anything earth shattering or massively original and they aren't but they are all nice enough.

At first sniff the rye is kind of strange smelling, but this is a very short phase...it gets very soft, kind of a yellow floral vibe, very pretty, but then, pfffffff, gone...I detect a hint of milkiness, then nothing....too weak for me to consider a bottle, although the smell is definitely interesting and would be nice on a summer day, there is something breezy about this perfume !! Thank you Miss Cherie for the generous decant !!

The first 20 minutes of this are the best-a very bright sunny floral which is really pretty. Unfortunately, the coconut and vanilla turns this into a slightly sour buttermilk after that, it muddies the brightness of the flowers and becomes quite cloying. There is definitely a sense of cheap suntan cream in it, which is a shame. Its a skin scent, and longevity is hopeless, about 1 hour on me.

For some strange reason, this smells like suntan lotion + yellow flowers. Not cloying, not too sweet, actually pretty nice yet somewhat banal. It is just the you should reach for if you're looking for a comforting summer scent. Longevity and projection are quite good, better than the others in this collection.

For me, the one that have most longevity in the whole english fields collection. This is for me the only coconut fragance that makes the coconut elegant and natural, not synthetic.

Smells SO much like Bronze Goddess. The only difference is this has a bit more of a green smell to it. More of a true figgy earthy coconut smell.

This one is a crowd pleaser. Nicely done . Must have? Probably not. Slightly warm and soft, easy to wear.
