Saffron

On me it's a soft, warm, comforting scent. With the dry down the saffron and sandalwood mingled into a soft cream with just enough amber to make I interesting. I agree it's a skin scent, and it wasn't long lasting enough--mostly gone at five hours--for me to want to pay the price. But it was pretty heavenly while it lasted, like being snuggled in a warm blanket, or lying in the shade on a hot day while a gentle breeze caresses your skin. Definitely worth trying on skin to check if it's flattering on you.I bet it also layers beautifully for a lot of scents, though I liked it too much on its own to put anything on it this first try. Update: I was wrong about the longevity. I just caved and bought it in this year's (2014) "intense" gift set. In fact, now that I'm wearing it outside a situation of testing several scents at once, the longevity is very good. It's lasted me through half a dozen hand washes and eight hours of office work today. At this point it's mostly a light, sweet amber, but it's still a snuggley warm scent.

Wonderful review below! I have to say it has the same effect on me. I first tried this when the cologne intense range were launched and despite living it, saffron kinda got lost in the mix as the Oud & bergamot still shines with a unique clarity. Upon re inspection this fragrance is a lot more up my street, very warm oriental and natural. It sits on the skin so well, enhancing a kind of natural skin aroma without being animal. That's the scentual quality of saffron, and it really is one of my (if not 'the') favourite notes in all perfumery. I had previously overlooked Jo Malone saffron as starting out very earthy and rough, super accurate basically. It soon settles though to a familiar soft and gorgeous saffron aroma which smells to me like its blended with various woods, mainly creamy sandalwood and a hint of vanilla. It's absolutely beautiful stuff...very long lasting and subtle projection which last very well indeed on clothes. I can't fault it and I think I may have to get it to satisfy my saffron fetish.

I tried this for the first time in London; where the sales lady covered my wrist in it as well as Peony Blush Suede(which I already owned) told me to crush them together while wet, and then sent me on my way. I spent the rest of the day pulling my wrist to my nose and inhaling followed by my eyes rolling in the back of my head and a long 'ahhhhhh'. It lasted at least 6 hours. I kept craving it after back in the US so I went and got a big bottle. Now my Peony Blush Suede is out (and #1 on my to buy list - bigger bottle this time). I like this on it's own too. It's not something everyone is wearing and I like that. It's also nice layered with the French Lime Blossom lotion, although my husband doesn't like that stuff - says it's too old lady for him. I think this will last me a while, and I may miss it when it's gone. Jo Malone hooks me like that.

what a shame this has been discontinued because it is such a unique scent. It is warm and woody and incense and, of course, saffron. If anyone can suggest replacement or a dupe I would be most grateful. Even though this was marketed in the Intense line, longevity and sillage are awful, I can shower myself with it and an hour later literally zero trace remains. It has much better staying power on my boyfriend so it shows body chemistry has a lot to do with it. I still have about 25ml in my large bottle and I treasure it, using it for very special occasions only. I also feel it compliments deeper shades of clothing better than light. Just my personal opinion.

Saffron is my favourite Jo Malone! An alluring saffron solifore... supported mainly by vanilla which together creates a beautiful suede accord. It is slightly sweet but not gourmand - just classy! Moderate silage but with great longevity. When I want a suede accord fragrance, it's either Jo Malone's Saffron or Le Labo's Santal 33. Saffron is warmer and has a cozy effect, whereas Santal 33 is more austere and avant garde. Love them both! Saffron is unfortunately discontinued, so I am glad I have my back-up bottles.
