Scarlet Beetroot

Ever since I splurged on the (prohibitively expensive) Loewe Beetroot candle, I've longed for it in perfume form... the few beetroot perfumes I did try tended to lean more dry and earthy, the beet fresh out of the earth, whereas that candle reads more as pickled beetroot - sweet and juicy. I recently bought the Buly travel set and eagerly sprayed the beetroot one all over myself and while it got close, it had too much vetiver. But this! Who'd have thought Jo Malone of all brands would be the one to deliver on such a niche scent profile!!!! Within the context of the whole collection, this one packs the strongest punch too. Its longevity is on par with the other two (about 3-5 hours), but its silage is MASSIVE. I really like that they opted for 30ml bottles this time too, instead of making people spring for a 100ml for the cute limited edition packaging... UNFORTUNATELY, I love this so much I'm heavily debating buying a backup so I haven't actually saved any money this time around lol

SO UNIQUE! It smells like gardening, such a beautiful spring scent! I was worried it wouldn’t be very wearable but it really blossoms on the skin in such a unique way. Definitely not for everyone, but if you like a true patchouli like I do you will love this beauty!

As another user said, so unique for sure! At first spray, it does smell like beets. But that fades and the black currant comes through to offer a deeper sweetness. Most unisex of the 3. I am really enjoying it.

I’m actually really surprised I like this one. Due to my experience with Diptyque Kyoto (a blind buy fail at the time of release), I thought for sure this one would be a hard no. Through Kyoto I learned that a single genetic mutation can make beetroot smell intolerably earthy for some people (i.e me) and rather faint for others. Kyoto smells so horrible to me that it is actually the only fragrance I have separated out of my collection and safely stored in the basement in its box (for resale purposes only) as I never intend on smelling it again. Anyway, back to this fragrance, I find the earthiness of the beetroot perfectly balanced. It’s definitely earthy and smells like a beet which is excellent as that was the intention! I perceive the beet and its earthy quality very clearly during the first 30 minutes of wear, and then it fades into the sweet/ juicy blackcurrent. The berry sweetness does get a little syrupy at times but it remains pleasant. Good job Jo Malone (or more like Estée Lauder) for taking a quirky note like beet root and making it not only wearable but actually enjoyable!

This scent is mostly blackcurrant, it's bright, juicy and a bit sweet. The beetroot only comes forward when I smell the spot I sprayed up close: I absolutely get the rooty earthiness of beetroot. I get the patchouli, but it's so light that it just comes off as a soft wood in the background, not perceptible until the scent dries down. I'm quite sensitive to patchouli and this doesn't trigger me at all. Overall a cute scent that disappears rather quickly like every Jo Malone fragrance. This one is my favorite of the collection, its short-lived juiciness has me salivating. Their 9 ml trio is perfect in my opinion, this collection is good but nothing exceptional. Though I absolutely love whenever they release an original collection, like the grain collection and the garden herb one. As a fragrance enthusiast, having beetroot, carrot and squash scents is quite nice.

Sharp clean fruity beetroot scent. Its not as dark on me as the notes seem to imply it will be. The sharpness is very crisp and beautiful. It is better than the other two in my opinion. In presence and scent. The bottles are all very beautiful. But in scent this is the best. A pity it is limited to 30ml. I would have bought a bigger bottle. Lasts about 4 hours on my skin. I can still smell it on my clothes about 14 hours later.

Earthy but bright! While I have not tried any other beet fragrances this feels like a well composed one. It has the dirt quality of beets but not too petrichor/moldy. The currant adds the perfect tartness. It's surprisingly wearable and such a nice fragrance for spring. Evocative of gardening or a fancy beet salad with a berry vinaigrette. Unisex, quirky, homey, modern, and fresh.

Never thought I would like a beetroot scent But here I am. This is good. Clean, red fruit, beetroot. For those who like exploring new scents. Not everything has to be date night, beast mode or sexy. This also reminds me of the Herbs collection they used to carry many years ago and I really liked those fragrances I’ll give it a solid 7.5 for now Spring/summer

Interesting! You really smell the beetroot. And it has that earthiness that beetroot has...But it also has a very fruity, grapey sweetness. The sweetness definitely wins out more in the dry down. Not a junior scent, or mature, rather unisex....I like it!

Quite lovely balanced and smooth scent even though I expected something more earthy due to the notes. Base is so lovely after an hour. Also has quite good longevity for an eau de cologne concentration with more affordable price point.

I’m not sure who thought of the idea of having a beetroot fragrance, but in my opinion, it was a bad one. Very earthy soil like Fragrance. I will say it’s very realistic to Fresh beet powder or chopped beets. I found it not wearable and I like a variety of notes.

My blind buy! The promotional photo with the bottle and the little goat completely won me over. 😅 I’m an Aries, so it felt especially symbolic to me. I’ll be receiving my bottle soon, and I’ll definitely share my thoughts on the fragrance once I’ve had a chance to wear it. I bought this fragrance completely blind. Honestly, I absolutely love black currant in perfumes, but unfortunately it’s rare to find one where it smells exactly the way I want it to. So I didn’t hesitate for a second, I knew I had to buy a full bottle and test it properly at home. This time, I made the right choice. 🥳 The black currant is incredibly realistic. It’s juicy, perfectly ripe, and has that beautiful tangy freshness, as if the berries had just been picked straight from the bush. The beetroot complements it beautifully. 🫜 It doesn’t make the fragrance smell “vegetable-like” at all, as you might expect. Instead, it enhances the juiciness of the black currant and adds the natural sweetness of a young, freshly harvested beetroot. Very close to the skin, there’s also a subtle earthy nuance, the kind of scent you get from a beetroot that’s just been pulled from the ground. Although I can’t completely rule out that this effect is coming from the patchouli. That earthy facet is only noticeable if you press your nose against your skin. In the air and in the scent trail, what I mainly smell is vibrant black currant wrapped in the delicate, natural sweetness of fresh beetroot. It’s this unexpected pairing that makes the fragrance feel so unique and incredibly captivating. And one more thing, the fragrance is actually quite vibrant! 🌬️ I’ll update info on the longevity later. So, after 3 hours, the fragrance becomes a skin scent. It will likely last longer on clothing.

This started out very sweet, like a fruity candy, which I liked. After a few minutes the black currant (and possibly patchouli) started to come out, in sort of a Frederic Malle heavy way. After just a tiny sample spray, I kept smelling it an hour later as I was chopping vegetables for dinner — so it’s stronger than many Jo Malone scents. But ultimately it dried down too heavy for me. A slightly dialed down Portrait of A Lady with some faint grape bubblegum thrown in.

Kind of reminds me of berry flavored carbonated drinks (fizzy and purple-red fruits), and aquatic florals like those in “flowerbomb midnight” (V&R) and/or “black tulip” (Nest New York). I don’t like fruity, or floral, or fruity-floral so this is my least favorite of the collection. Not earthy enough to smell like “musc amarante”!

Nice to see the brand venturing into something more different. This is a fruity, very earthy beetroot scent and can be layered with the others in the Veggie Patch range. My fave was the carrot 🥕 blossom one. IMO this is nothing like Pink me up. IG/Tiktok: @wilddew_vibes

I don’t get much Patchouli really, but I’m also not sensitive to it. Lots of Blackcurrant though. It reminds me a lot of Signorina Misterioso. That one has blackberry, not Blackcurrant but the fruit aspect smells the same to me

I'm surprised at everyone calling this earthy, I find it extremely sweet. It's like the purple stains in a salad mix, but very sweet overall.

Very earthy and smells like photorealistic fresh dirt. Of the three in this collection, the patchouli is definitely the strongest here.
