Star Magnolia

This sat on my shelf for a year, with me only having worn it once or twice. I remember liking it, but not being overly impressed with it. Now I absolutely love it. Maybe it gets better with time on the shelf? A week ago, I picked it up again and wore it for the day without really thinking about it - just wanted something light and springy. Later on in the day, I kept getting trails of something that smelled SO good and clean at my office. Sort of laundry-like, but also fresh and lightly floral. I didn't even realize until later that day that it was me. lol Very clean and fresh, but soft - not sharp or tart. I think the creaminess of magnolia flower helps to mellow out the orange, lemon, and ginger. I love all those notes, but this is a bit less in your face as some of my other citrus and/or ginger scents. This is a safe and clean scent, perfect for everyday wear.

This is a beautiful floral perfume. Magnolia can be overwhelming, but the top notes of lemon, ginger and (the current ingredient du jour) shiso, temper the floral notes. Indeed, on my skin, after about 30 minutes there is a nice, almost mint like note that comes to the fore. I suspect this is the shiso. It does however settle down for the long run into a clean, bright, modern floral. Even though this is marketed towards women, the top notes do lend to a unisex vibe, though I cannot imagine most men wearing it. It does sit close to the skin, and like most Jo Malone fragrances, the longevity is not great, although I could still smell it after 6-7 hours if I sniffed very close to my arm. The bottle is beautiful, however, I immediately removed the white flower thing they put around the top (it annoyed me whenever I tried to use the bottle).

To describe this fragrance in a few words, it is fresh, elegant, feminine and modest. I can imagine the breeze of spring and the feeling of standing in a hill during sunrise wearing a white dress. Upon spraying, the scent of magnolia lingers immediately, accompanied by lemon. A few moments later, that lemon note is replaced by ginger. The scent's chemistry on my skin smells floral and fresh. It's only citrusy on the top note. This fragrance is simple in a way that it is unique and versatile; very likeable, smells like someone fresh from the shower(maybe that's this is the only fragrance from Jo Malone that has a hair mist version). The bottle is also unique compared to the usual Jo Malone bottles. It was like a woman that's feminine, soft and effortless.

I finally found a Jo Malone fragrance to love, and this is it. It does a very good job of replicating the fragrance of actual magnolia flowers. Unfortunately, they didn't make a good supply and ran out of it fairly quickly, but maybe they will bring it back to stay as they have done with some others. I bought mine on eBay as a blind buy. There are magnolia trees everywhere here in Southern California, and I love that fragrance. If you like white florals as I do, then I think you would like this one. Longevity and sillage are about the same as her Orange Blossom for me, not very long lasting. By the way, I don't usually layer, but Star Magnolia with Orange Blossom is fantastic.

OMG this smells soooo heavenly!! I was not planning to buy another Jo Malone fragrance that day but then the saleslady in Jo Malone introduced me to this. She said she only has 2 bottles in the shop. This fragrance was sold out just 2 days after it was launched. Luckily she sold one to me. This is so addicting! It smells like happinness in a bottle! It is so elegant but at the same time friendly, not snobby, easy-goin kinda vibe. It is not so loud and it is not headache-inducing. Well, all Jo Malone fragrances never really caused me headaches or nausea that is why i enjoy collecting them. I dont know if they will continue Star Magnolia but I'm very happy to own one.

I had been going through four or five Jo Malone colognes, checking out which I would like best. One early morning when I got inside our service vehicle, an officemate exclaimed, "You smell so good!" That's what made me go back to this again and again. Although I love the citrus-y top note, I feel that this leans more into floral than fruity. Living in a tropical country, I usually spray inside my blouse so that the cologne would linger there while also being warmed by my skin. So far it didn't discolor any of my clothes, and the scent lasts the whole day.

Perfect for pelet (Javanese magic spell) kembang KANTHIL to captivate your crush. Read this 77x in Friday night: "siro kang tak puji, nglangkahi kanthil melati. Meluo kanthi mbuka ati. This is basically the perfect summer scent, to me. It’s light, refreshing, floral but not cloying, and it lasts longer than most Jo Malone scents. The bottle is gorgeous too. What’s not to like?

I usually don’t go for citrus florals, but this is really nice! The shiso note and ginger gives it a complexity, somewhat herbally.

To my nose, the drydown smells almost exactly like Magnolia Nobile, from Acqua di Parma. It smells divine.

Rather than "magnolia" and "neroli," the Jo Malone site describes their notes this way: "Experience magnolia leaf and orange blossom with a kiss of lemon, ginger and shiso." I think this fragrance leans a little more green (and less floral) than a dominant note of "magnolia" would have suggested. But I knew about it going in. The shiso is new to me. Rather than minty, I think it's sort of herbal-green. All this greenery in combination with the cedar gives it an almost masculine vibe, to me. Unfortunately that keeps it from being a "love," but I like it very much. I think it could be considered a unisex fragrance. Something I can't put my finger on sweetens it a bit for the first ten minutes. I wish that it had lingered.

The overall fragrance to me is quite sweet floral with powdered chalk. Another well created fragrance, simple yet complex sweet magnolia floral. This is quite interesting that the vanillic note is not sticky at all and it gives that dry powder feel to the fragrance. Interesting that their bottle cap is also rough ceramic coated... or maybe that was so you can spray the fragrance onto it and really pretend it is a magnolia flower. :D

This fragrance is simple floral, very close to the smell of star magnolia, citrusy with some aromatic pleasant roughness, and a bit of sweetness. The fragrance is pleasant and safe, especially if you appreciate magnolia and star magnolia in particular, which is a amazing little tree. In early spring it is covered with flowers, they appear before leaves. A big bush/tree smells at a distance of many feet away.

Light but slightly heady white floral with soapy neroli. It doesn’t particularly read as magnolia to me apart from the lemon in the opening, and I unfortunately don’t detect any shiso or ginger.

Beautiful bottle, Mono magnolia, little bit of citrus. I'm not sure if it worth of purchase. Not special...

Reminds me of Gap Heaven...not quite as sharp, but in the same realm. I like.

I'm... not that impressed with this one. Come to think of it, this might be the first Jo Malone I get to sniff properly and sadly it fell flat on me. Magnolia, to me, serves more like a component to enhance the creaminess of other scents but not something I'd like to look forward to on its own. A little funny story: one of the Jo Malone staff talked to me whilst I was asking him for directions to Maison Martin Margiela fragrances (because I had no intention in splurging on Jo Malone at the moment) and 'lured' me to smell some of the Jo Malone stuff (sneaky, that guy haha). He chose this one to sample for me first thing and, well, it wasn't probably one he should've picked because it didn't have any kind of effect on me. I neither liked it nor hated it... just meh. Creamy Magnolia... nice, fleeting, the usual. (His third and fourth picks were spot on though, so his attempt didn't go in vain.) So for this one, no, I'll kindly pass. It's pleasant, but it doesn't make me feel tempted to smell it again and again.

At first, the lemon and ginger remind me a little of a bathroom air freshener or a common cleaning spray. As it settles, soft white florals gently emerge and smooth out the sharp opening. In the dry down, a subtle woody sweetness appears, adding a touch of warmth and elegance. This fragrance makes me think of a young professional woman in a crisp white blouse—polished, sophisticated, and effortlessly put together. However, as someone who prefers softer woody fragrances, this one isn't really my style. To be honest, if I smelled this in a car, I might get motion sickness. The citrus and ginger combination feels a bit too sharp and bright for my taste.

This perfume reminds me of that smell after you poop clean yourself and smell your hand after, if you are asian you will know what I'm talking about

7/25/19 Top: lemon, ginger, shiso Middle: magnolia and neroli base: cedar and amber I had to look up “shiso” - the scent description I found is cinnamon and clove-like. I also don’t know what magnolias smell like; I live in the desert. I can’t smell this shiso note if it indeed is cinnamon-y and clove-y. It must have been used to somehow round it out and give it more depth, but kept hidden so it doesn’t overpower. Same can be said with the cedar and amber! Definitely not at all prominent. This is such a beautifully perfect frag for me. It’s so pretty! The lemon, ginger, Neroli, and all the other notes have created perfection. It’s clean, fresh, floral, feminine, carefree: definitely a scent that perfectly sums up what spring and summer are all about. Between JM’s Orange Blossom (which I definitely am familiar with because I live in an orange grove area and JM’s definitely smells authentic!), and this scent - I can’t pick a favorite. I’d like to book a vacation time where I can experience Magnolias blossoming at their peak - that’s how much I love this. As I spritz it on, I imagine myself standing under the white blossoms as the breeze gently caresses my skin, in the cool of the twlight with crickets playing their song... while a gorgeous, tender man nuzzles his nose in my neck while whispering sweet nothings as he guides me away from this hideaway... to another, more private one 💕

I bought a small bottle of this scent and can tell it will be in heavy rotation during the upcoming warmer months. It has a lot of the qualities I look for in a fragrance to wear during the Spring and the Summer: it's light and it has pretty floral and refreshing citrus notes. During warm weather, I crave something that can be worn a bit more lavishly after a shower to cut through the heat and help extend that fresh-out-of-the-shower sensation. I think I can get that from this scent. There is also a noticeable ginger note in this juice, which works well to give the fragrance some depth and a more realistic impression of the magnolia blossom. Oh, and the bottle is beautiful - frosty white flacon, creamy white topper and delicate white petals around the neck of the bottle. Just adorable! Edit: I just saw that Curious by Britney Spears is listed under the "this fragrance reminds me of" category. Whoever put it there is right. I immediately thought of Curious upon testing this for the first time. Both are very pretty in my opinion.

Tested this one today at a JM's store but in a different bottle, lilac colored and with a round cap. It's one of the fragrances in the new spring limited edition collection. At first my impression was baby powder, citrus and flowers. After a few hours Neroli is the most prominent note to me. Very cute, delicate and feminine. To me this smells really old-money as they say nowadays. I picture a discreet, rich and recently-engaged-and-in-love lady wearing this. As all Jo Malone's this one smells good, but has low sillage and weak longevity. I'm on the fence if it's FB worthy.

“What’s that lovely smell? Oh, it’s me!” Perfect summertime fragrance: light, sweet and spicy. But my first and only Jo Malone ended with a visit to the doctor and a return to the department store. Star Magnolia —> severe headaches :( I find Bvlgari Splendida Iris d’Or ticks the “citrusy green creamy floral” box for me even though the notes are not the same. And Yves Rocher Quelques Notes d’Amour satisfies the floral sugar craving. Wish Star Magnolia had worked for me.

I like magnolia, but in many perfumes, it is sharp, and overwelmingly floral, Star magnolia is fresh, very pleasant to wear, it has a certain juiciness, I really am liking that perfume! nothing screechy about it! the ginger and shiso give it a watery sweet vibe...Ann Flipo really orchestrated that one nicely! this is very much a Jo Malone scent, beautiful in its simplicity, with a crystalline clear aura..a scent doesnt need to be complex to smell good!

Upon spraying you get that star magnolia smell slightly lemony and floral. It reminded me of my uncles magnolia tree with fragrant flowers. On the dry down it smells exactly like Kenzo Parfum D'ete on my skin. Maybe a slight fresher version. Overall I like it but I'm glad I didn't buy the large bottle since I already own the Kenzo.

White bottles design always catch my attention but my collection not yet has a member of white. Note: magnolia is not my favourite blossom but I am quite curious about shiso leaves, coz the hydrosol is therapeutic. The simple construction of magnolia neroli can totally shift my opinion. Cedar and amber is always safe!

Smells musky, very clean and fresh. Like Dior Pure Poison exactly but less ambery and forward. More calm. Although the smooth amber mixed with the clean florals I pick up is exactly what draws my mind to compare the two. I think this performs well and moderately especially for a Jo Malone freshie. Good everyday scent.

Magnolia Leaf good fragrance. Beautiful colonge but I don't like to weakness longivity 3-4 hrs. I like this bottle, smell orange blossom "Magnolia flower" Floral Fragrance beautiful so much.

Soft white springy floral. Perfect bridal/wedding scent. Stays close to skin. Nothing revolutionary but very Jo Malone and very likeable. Bottle is beautiful.

Absolutely Magnolia Nobile / Miyake Eau Magnolia albeit less waxy.
