Velvety Butternut

Went into a standalone jo malone store to sniff the whole range. I expected to like the carrot best but I LOVE this one, instant purchase. Ginger powder sprinkled on fresh cut squash before you cook it, definitely not a cooked smell. A little like a Lush perfume base but elevated. The tonka bean suits it but it didn't need it, still really nice as an element though. Gets more subtle with time but on my skin I'm not getting the lemon like some comments, the patchouli gets really loud for me giving it a earth-dirt-squash-peel thing!

Oh how I love this! At first I wasn’t sure, but as it wears, it almost smells like a sweet lemon dessert? I layered it with the beetroot one and SO good! The whole collection is really surprising, in a good way.

Beautiful fragrance. Longevity is non existent

A cozy and warm vegetable scent! Reminds me of a butternut squash dessert but is thankfully devoid of cinnamon or spices. Think like a summer tart. There is a slightly sweet note but it's not sugary. It's homey, cottage core, inviting. I wouldn't say as garden-coded as Scarlet Beetroot. But still natural and from the earth. I don't get much patchouli.

So cute, creamy soft gourmand that smells like a sweet potato pie but better. I wish I was the right person for this. 💛

This promises so much but silently fades away into the distance. I enjoyed the opening, which is almost like a lemon biscotti dessert, light and airy. This lasts a moment before the dry down arrives and it becomes like its namesake. A cozy butternut scent that is so weak in projection and performance it is just this side of non-existent. Velvety Butternut is quiet and unassuming, a comforting homey scent, that doesn't linger at all. This smells like doing chores around the house.

This was quite nutty/savoury on my skin! Not in an unpleasant way, somewhat reminiscent of d'Annam White Rice for example. This is only faintly "gourmand" though, more earthy/vegetal than anything. Definitely the most unisex of the three. Not my cup of tea but certainly not a bad quality perfume by any measure, with longevity of about 4-5 hours.

All three in the line have this cheap mall perfume base, this one being the least perfume-y and the best IMO. Yeah i get some nuttiness of the butternut squash but i still get overwhelmed buy this generic cheap perfume base. Jo Malone is really bottom of the barrel these days and it is sad to see.....

The notes listed on the website are actually Butternut, Ginger and Patchouli... Not sure why tonka bean is listed here instead of ginger. The first few minutes of wear remind me of autumn, although without showcasing any spice. At first the scent captures the concept or idea of squash rather than smelling like the actual vegetable. It's sweet and a bit lemony as some other reviewers have said. After a few minutes though it turns a bit lipsticky, which I'm not loving. It's obvious to me that the oils and overall scent profile have been taken from previous releases like Honeysuckle & Davana and Passiflora, which are all identical to my nose once the top notes have gone. My least favorite from the new collection sadly, I expected something a tad more vegetal and less floral.

Some kind of earthy/dusty, ozonic musk and tart neroli-vanilla (FLOWER, not gourmand). Smells like a better version of the least offensive Issey Miyake fragrance, or maybe the Elizabeth Arden Green Tea lemon flanker? My favorite in the collection. Smells like a Sephora.

Creamy, slightly sweet, slightly vegetal. It does capture a pleasant butternut squash soup vibe. Unfortunately like most Jo Malone fragrances though this suffers from poor projection and longevity, this stuff is gone off my skin in around 2 hours

At first sniff i was delighted: is this a autumn version to my beloved Ginger biscuit?! Buttery, sugary, gourmand, warm. But no! After a short while it turns into this cheap floral thing, before it's gone altogether. Disappointment.

The only accord I get out of the fragrance pyramid is balsamic. To me this is a honeyed accord with a distinct solar vibe that reminds me of sunscreen. Alright scent but not something I find particularly appealing enough to wear.

I know they are niche but I just cannot get into $95 plus tax for 1 ounce not even a 1.7

Smells like McVities Digestive to me 🤔
