Vintage Gardenia

I love this. I have been looking for years for the perfect Gardenia scent that lasts, smells like a real gardenia, and doesn't smell chemical. This one does have a lovely gardenia overtone. When compared with a real gardenia it is just a little different. It smells like real gardenias with just a hint of spice and a touch of tuberose. It really is wonderful when layered with Jo Malone French Lime Blossom. The perfect scent. It lasts a long time too and doesn't change that much on me. I'm going to buy tons more before Estee Lauder changes the formula. (As has been happening with most companies lately). Update: This has been discontinued. The SA at Bloomies told me they were informed it was discontinued because the specific gardenia used was no longer available in large enough quantities. Rather then re-formulate they discontinued.

This gardenia has the softness of a kitty cat's paw and bears no harsh, synthetic undertones, which has been known to happen with certain floral notes. I frequently reach for it during the spring and summer months, finding it perfect for a hot day because of its weightlessness. There's nary a sharp edge to it. Softness, softness, softness. It's polite and achingly feminine, it whispers but would never shout. Perfect for when m'lady slips into her garden dress and wide brimmed hat and runs out the door to attend a tea with The Girls. It's also appropriate for a walk under the stars with Mr. Wonderful in tow if you're in the mood for drinking in the luscious, warm summer night smells that midsummer's dreams are made of.

I love this fragrance but alas, it has been discontinued by Jo Malone. You can find an occasional bottle at ebay but at a premium price. Compared to other gardenia perfume, this one is a very refined gardenia balanced perfectly with tuberose, mixed with myrrh and cardamom, all tropicals. This fragrance suited me very well and the sillage is moderate. Received compliments from men only. I have to look for something similar to love again.

A really beautiful gardenia. Most gorgeous. Feminine to the hilt; romantic; delicate yet deep and rich; perfect. It has a fullness, and the other notes really support the gorgeous gardenia ambience. It is very very ladylike and refined. I adore it. I am complimented abundantly whenever I wear it out, and I feel very special in it. It makes me feel gentle and calm, and supported. A divine perfume.

I think this is one of the more true to life Gardenia scents around.I've grown them my whole life and they have such a hard scent to replicate.They are floral,creamy and have a hint of spice.Almost all gardenia scents just smell like tuberose but this captures the complexity of a real bloom perfectly.

I've been looking for a gardenia scent that is close to Crabtree & Evelyn's discontinued one for so long - and I think this is it. Please, please, contact me if you have a bottle of this you would like to sell! This really smells like gardenias (which I grow at home - their evening fragrance is unbeatable) and combined with myrrh and incense makes this lasting, deep, sultry and magnificent (to my nose, anyway). I am in love, can you tell?!

This not a strong perfume, but for a Jo Malone, performs reasonably well after I spray it about 12 times. It's a very pleasant spring floral. White flowers that don't go too sweet or too dense, due to the addition of gardenia. The gardenia here is not too sharp or astringent, but is soft. There is a hint of spice and sandalwood in the dry down but mainly stays a pleasant springy inoffensive soft white floral for me.

I find this a relatively 'refined' gardenia scent, not as 'skanky' as the Tuvache fragrances ( Jungle Gardenia and Tuvache Gardenia, which I love to distraction). I don't get much in the way of incense, just a very pleasant tuberose-gardenia, not quite as decadent as I was hoping for. This I could even wear to work, whereas my beloved Tuvache DOES NOT accompany me there.

Much more potent than the typical Jo Malone, and definitely vintage-y- at first whiff, I thought this was a clone to Jennifer Anniston Lolavie, but I'm pleased to say that it is not- definitely closer to Teo Cabanel's Lace Garden, minus the lemon top notes of the latter- I swear I'm smelling ylang-ylang, although this isn't listed here-

- This fragrance is very, VERY lovely! It's an amazing gardenia and tuberose scent with a spicy cardamom incense twist. The incense and myrrh make the scent mature and unique. I love it! FB worthy. All the best ones get discontinued. Sampling from a swap with a lovely member.

I have to say that I can't wear this when it's warm out, it's too smoky, I feel that this is more an early spring and fall scent. The incense can be a bit overbearing. However, it is quite lovely and clean smelling.

This is a nice, clean, soapy, white floral. I get more tuberose than gardenia, but I like a bit of that just washed with expensive soap feel. Perfect for the office.

Worn alone it seems too linear and soapy, but makes a perfect duo when layering it with Vanilla&Anise, adding a new edge to otherwise too sweet for me fragrance.

i love this scent sooooooooooo much!!! i love gardenia especially in this cologne. it's classic and makes me feel fresh. very last long btw. just love!

light and polite for this subject-matter, a kind of washed out girly spa version of tuberose & gardenia

It's a mature gardenia scent, much like Fracas. But it's discontinued so it feels special!

It was one of the two perfumes from Jo Malone that I bought out of curiosity. It is not a bad perfume, the tuberose is well worked it is not a candy type one, but it is a static perfume. You can't describe it as being for a certainly woman typology, it's not on my type of feminist perfumes with a power vibe and neither a perfume for a naive woman waiting for the knight with money on a white horse, or between typologies, it's just a perfume, a powdery smell that anyone can wear. For the price, no thanks, if I really want a tuberosis I prefer a Marina de Bourbon, a McQueen, a classic for the "grandmother" Estée, or even a Penhaligon.

I got this blind, thinking that it would be a transparent natural gardenia scent. After all, I owned several Jo Malone fragrances, and they are anything but strong. However with this one I went wrong, this cologne wears more like an edp. Must be from the older generation of colognes, before Miss Malone discovered dilution.... Anyway, VG starts with a promising gardenia note, but within minutes a strong sweet tuberose takes on a leading role, and the whole thing changes into a sweet version of Fracas, but still Fracas 90percent similar . In about an hours time a strange thing happens, and incense, woods and a lot of cardamom appear, and the flower power morphs into a smoky oriental. Some flowery traces last til the end, but to my nose this is more of a tuberose than a gardenia scent. So what I hoped that it would be a light "garden" scent, turned out to be a strong complex floriental, which likes to morph every hour or so into something else ! Like in all JO Malone fragrances, I can smell the natural high quality ingredients, but the end result fails to please me, mostly because I find the name so misleading! This is gardenia 20 percent, tuberose 50 percent, and 30 percent wood incense and spice! It is also too strong and long lasting, and it is not a cologne to be used as a refreshment! So in the end not me at all, would swap my 100ml bottle if I could! In all fairness I have to mention that at the time I wrote this review I am pregnant and I dislike most strong perfumes like this one is.

I had such high hopes for this and got so excited to see cardamom listed as a note as I love the smell of cardamom. But what a disappointment. The gardenia and cardamom I can each smell distinctly but they totally clash with each other and create a horrible soapy smell. Truth be told, I'm predisposed against white florals, but in small amounts they're ok, and I wasn't worried as I liked all the other fragrance notes. Then the tuberose, which I normally like, joined the mix and it wasn't good. This is the first Jo Malone I have actually disliked. :/ At least the candles smell nice.

Thank goodness I did not blind buy this. I love gardenias and have quite a few in my collection. Yesterday accidentally saw it in one of the EL outlets (McArthur Glen if anyone wants it). Was so excited as I recently read an article on it here. But this one is a pass. It's underwhelming, smelling cheap, like lotv and too sweet at the beginning, later shows some signs of gardenia, but it's more about a tuberose. I could not get rid of the feeling it's linear and nagging.

This is the only Jo Malone sample that I really, really dislike. On me it smells of rotting funeral home flowers and terpentine.

I really don't like this, it smells vintage which is obviously the intention with name vintage gardenia but I couldn't get past an older ladies perfume. It's just not for me also very animalistic on my skin.

Oh, this is a lovely one: gardenia, tuberose, spices, wood, and myrrh, all of which I adore, and together they are absolutely luscious. The gardenia and tuberose are almost equally weighted, to my nose, and that's just fine with me. I love them both, and they hold hands like sisters. The cardamom and myrrh are very aromatic; with the sandalwood and incense, they hold down the sweetness of those Big White Floral Sisters and add a rich grounding depth. This fragrance is relatively linear, and I get pretty much the same fragrance all the way through, although the florals finally fade before the wood and incense do. Some may find this too sweet. I don't, but then I generally like sweet, warm, Big White Florals, of which this is a decadently lovely example.

The opening on my skin is a sweet candy tuberose with gardenia, very delicious and edible, but also a little fabricated. Then, a note like fresh oil paint (linseed oil, actually) creeps in and reminds me of college art classes. This is art school in a bottle to me. The paints, the faint perfume, the sunlight coming in the window of the studio...As the scent dries down, the spices come in murk the clarity up, making it harder to discern the separate notes and ruining the clarity and simplicity of the blend. In the end, I don't like it, but it was an interesting trip for awhile.

The stars of this perfume seem to be the myrrh and cardamom, rather than the florals. The perfume is interesting, which is a nicer way of saying a bit strange. Definitely not an unpleasant perfume, but not the most evocative of a vintage white floral, particularly gardenia. For some reason I get banana vibes from this combination of notes. Vintage gardenia is worth trying if you get the chance, but by no means worthy of hunting down or spending lots on.

this is a strong floral scent, with a strong high pitched tuberose. but don't worry. it wears off in a couple of hours. COMPLETELY OFF. I like the classic quality of gardenia, and LOVE LOVE LOVE Penhaligons Cornubia which I think also features Gardenia (although it's not stated here on fragratica), but wears for soo much longer and with a more complex pallate.

this is a classy grandma smell , but to me i smelled bananas for some reason , also its lacking the warmth and sweetness its too bitter floral , i gave it to my mom

is kind of mature i guess thats where the vintage comes from, i mean is nice but is a bit dated and i know is terrible to say it but it is .

The first spray smells good and like wild strawberries,but then it just smells like alcohol,pitty because i like the very first smell of it.

not a review just a shout-out i just saw that it is available in the jo malone UK site as an online exclusive.so go get 'em guys +girls ;-)

So actually, this reminds me most of Chanel Gardénia.
