Violet & Amber Absolu

You read every crazy thing around here, I know that each nose is different and tastes are subjective, to say that this does not have violet is crazy, the ionone is present in almost the entire first hour of the fragrance, even later in its development it is felt in the background perfectly, also as I always say we cannot value a fragrance by one spray or having a simple decant that will hardly give us enough to wear it properly (I wear at least 6 sprays of whatever, in many cases more than 10) also the prices influence and this Jo Malone perfume is one of the most expensive I have seen from the brand although I have not really investigated in depth. This is a beautiful and well-blended fragrance, it's incredible how Anne Flipo achieved a perfect blend of two notes that for me are opposites and not because they can't coexist together but because one would devour the other, in this case the oud, a strong and intense note but that here and as the house has accustomed us, is not at all risky, an oud very easy to wear, very western (although the composition is amber oriental) that blends beautifully with this note of ethereal violet , velvety and slightly sweet with powdery traces, all this feels a bit dry, here there are no traces of humid oud and even less animalistic, little by little the composition shows its amber side and sweetens slightly and also shows very but very little smoky tones, the violet and the oud never disappear, they let the amber (not one of the most complicated also) come and go as it pleased but it does not steal the protagonism. The performance is not outstanding, that can be blamed, especially considering its price, but in the first hour of application it is perfectly perceived and gradually decreases until it reaches 4 to 5 hours, I think that in closed spaces It could have better performance and logically in temperatures that are not extremely cold but not warm either, it can be perfect for transitional stages of autumn or spring. I have only used it twice, both times in closed spaces. Later, perhaps I will update its behavior, but knowing the extremely hot climate of my country, I know that the heat will devour it before reaching 3 hours.

I made an account simply to defend this scent as it's gotten a lot of poor reviews. I find this scent to be the perfect blend of being objectively clean while being incredibly unique. I haven't found anything quite like it, and I think the dry-off is what made me buy two bottles of it. It's masculine (with the oud and amber) with just the right amount of floral/powder where it stays neutral leaning masculine. I've chosen it as my wedding scent for our wedding. My fiance loves it. I love it. I don't know if I recommend the blind buy at the price point, but again, I love this so much I got 2 bottles of it and have no regrets!

What a luxurious smell - I thought when someone sprayed it in the air at my local Douglas. I loved it from the first moment and almost bathed in it when I was testing the fragrance myself. I could then smell it on my clothes for days. A scent of candied violets on a dry oud base, with some good quality amber added. All of that blended very well. I like the ombré glass bottle, too. It’s a pity it is so crazy expensive!

This is like JM Rose & White Musk crossed with Parco Palladiano IX: Violetta by Bottega Veneta, where the rose is replaced by violet. Really love this. Contrary to most JM products, this really lasts; it’s been almost 24hrs and the scent still lingers on my pj. The silage is probably about arms length radius. The things I hate about this is the high price and the difficulty in obtaining it.

To my nose i get loads of violet and amber with oud. I dont get other floral notes thank goodness. I used to love versace essence ethereal (parma violet sweets in a bottle) but alas got discontinued. This is like this had a baby with oud wood. Im loving it. The violet stays all through the dry down and 6 hrs in im still getting wafts of it.

I love this so much. People who don’t like it genuinely need to get their noses checked. There’s something insanely addictive about it. It gives me the same oddly satisfying feeling as smelling freshly cut grass or gasoline — weirdly comforting, but in the best way possible.

The bottle sells this. The juice..... not so much. I knew nothing about this until I saw the article here listing the Fragrance Foundation finalists. So I like purple and gold bottles as much as the next person, and maybe more, and I'm often intrigued when a perfumer decides to brave the stigma and make a violet perfume. So I sprung for a decant. I have no pretty purple bottle to sway me here. And it isn't a bad fragrance. There isn't much violet, but there isn't anything sweet or gooey either. Not that much amber or really oud either. It's a safe perfume, oud for people who are afraid to wear oud but want to say they're wearing oud. That's none of us. The whole effect disappears into the ether within 3 hours, at least on my skin. So nothing really wrong with it, but nothing opulent, or exciting or unusual or alive about it either. Or worthy of any sort of award. Decent although inconspicuous juice buoyed up by a glitzy bottle.

This smelled so amazing on the test strip that I almost bought a bottle on the spot. Did I finally discover a violet perfume that not is overly powdery? Delightfully fresh violet leaf grounded with smoky amber but still with a strong note of violet flower. Thankfully, logic prevailed, and I sprayed some on my arm and sweater to test it over the rest of day. I’m very glad I did. On my skin, it turned into a stifling powder bomb in less than 5 minutes. Big pass. However, a week later, my sweater still smells great! The fresher violet leaf notes have faded a fair bit, but the powder note is still dialed waaaaaay down. tl;dr—If you like violet but hate powder, I’d recommend spraying this on clothing. But don’t put it on your skin!

Loved the opening as the violet and amber worked really well together, but it quickly dried down to be just plain ol' powdery wood, which was a little sad. I think that if the violet and amber stayed throughout this could have been really nice. Edit: Okay this really grew on me. To combat the boring dry down I've just been spraying it constantly and I love the way it smells. Relative to the price, the performance is so upsetting that I cannot see myself purchasing a full bottle, but if they ever come out with a travel size, I will be snatching that up immediately.

This is mostly an oud and amber fragrance that has violet LEAF in the base. There's more violet leaf (green/fresh) than violet flower (sweet). This is unisex leading more masculine IMO. I'm a violet flower lover and this is a like for me (not a love) since this goes more on the violet leaf side. It's very similar to those rose/oud Arabian fragrances with the medicinal undertone.

Opens sharp violet leaf, too sharp, like pepper on the back of my throat. Then it settles to powdery violet and amber. A good 2-3 hours on 2 sprays which is better than the usual watery JM. It is a very heavy violet, not unlike TF black violet but not as sweet. I like it but a bit heavy for me in summer.

beautiful bottle , very normal designer scent , powdery as children smell after shower , it's way overpriced , i bought the 3 of them and this one is the worst ..!

Rather dark and bitter amber. I don't get violet, but there is a sort of shrieky strident note that has a sort of artificial floral smell. Definitely not for me.

I know my description will surprise you! To me, it smells by %70 like D&G The One for men, I know it's crazy but I compared them side by side, they are close but not identical for sure. After comparing both of them on my skin I can say this is higher quality and it feels less synthetic compared to D&G, specifically in the dry down. Now they are not identical, Jo Malone has beautiful dry dark clean oud in the base while D&G has only that synthetic amber with tobacco vibes. To be honest, I think violete in Jo Malone is just a replacement to the synthetic benzoin in the D&G. Again I'm not saying violet is not synthetic here but maybe a mix of synthetic violate chemicals with some natural but defiantly high-quality staff. I do prefer Jo Malone over D&G the one, for many reasons, one of them the longevity and another one the less synthetic amber smell in the dry down. Rating 8.5/10

I am disappointed with how this wears straight from the bottle. It has a lovely, non-animalic oud which is very prominent. However the eponymous violet is pretty scant- if not nonexistent. However I have loads of violet soliflors, so I blended it with Apres L’Ondee and wow- it transformed into exactly what I was expecting. So blending it with violet perfumes creates a smooth, deep and mysterious fragrance with not too much oud (depending on the ratios of course - I did 1:1). It is definitely unisex and leans masculine as is from the bottle. Sillage good and longevity is about 8 hours. Do not blind buy if you are expecting sweet violets because you won’t get any (unless you provide your own!)

Nobody has a review of this ? I tried this at my local store and my first impression was that it was a strong fragrance. You smell the oud, a hint of violet and the amber is also present. It smells like a typical jo malone fragrance, in my opinion synthetic. It was a mehh for me, considering the heavy price tag. I would like to know if there is a fragrance that smells similar than this because I like the sent profile. Edit: there is actually little to no violet in there. Expect more like an oud amber fragrance with just a touch of a violet vibe Middle eastern style with the jo malone DNA

The scent is interesting but not what I expected. It has a heavy dose of violet and violet leaf, but the amber here is not like a traditional amber, it smells salty and chemical like ambroxan and whatever ambergris like chemicals they are using nowadays. It is not sweet, it comes across like a niche complex Oud based scent. I am glad I didn't like it because it is too expensive for what it is.

This smells very beautiful and much like a Middle Eastern perfume, its not light and airy like the classic Jo Malone perfumes. This is one of those perfumes that's hard to describe its just very beautiful, rich, and luxurious and you can smell almost all the notes when wearing it. I love it a lot but I can't justify the price. If anyone knows of a good dupe for it please DM me!!

This smells a lot like a toned down Lotita Lempicka. A soft, sweet, powdery violet with nominal addition of other ingredients for the purpose of balancing the fragrance. Office appropriate, almost a skin scent with little lasting power. If you are looking for a simple understated violet, this might suit you.
