White Lilac & Rhubarb

Such a lovely and romantic scent. It reminded me of my garden in Grunwald. A woman ran after me and asked me the name of this perfume, friends wanted to know the name of it. Such a special fragance, you find it once in your life...

This is a cheery spring fragrance that captures the distinctive aroma of a lilac bush. I find it a little dewy and fairly sweet, with only a tinge of bitter greens in the background. To be honest, I really don’t smell any rhubarb in here; if you’re looking for a fragrance with a strong rhubarb note, this probably isn’t it. The heliotrope blends in smoothly with the lilac and the combination of the two creates a sweet powderiness as the fragrance dries down. White Lilac & Rhubarb starts off with a punch of realistic flowers, but it turns into a skin scent after an hour or so. As with almost all of Jo Malone's scents, the lasting power is pretty minimal. It’s not a must-have for me personally, but could well appeal to those who love a good lilac scent with a powdery drydown.

I love this perfume I just purchased it and smell it on my hand, because I tested it in the store and fell in looove! The initial spray is earthy and then the lilac kicks in and the Rhubarb gives it a boozy background, which I'm not super keen on, but it helps hold on to the lilac, which I love! This perfume is best worn in the summer, for some reason the sun truly brings out the beauty in this. Sun and air really does help develop the fragrance. From experience wearing it during really humid cold rainy days causes it to be really boozy... Edit - I've been wearing it more often that it is warmer out and it smells stunning, even my boyfriend commented on how good I smelled and he never mentions it with my other fragrances :)

Love this scent and looked for it a long time. I wore it for the first time yesterday. The scent is wonderful with the lilac and heliotrope but the sillage and longevity are very poor. I used at least 10 sprays all over. This is a lovely scent but I am extremely disappointed that in less then 30 minutes it is non-existant on me. I wear a lot of Jo Malone and this is the first one of her fragrances I have had this problem with. I also have Iris and Lady Moore and it has sillage and longevity on me. Really sad about this.

I agree that this is an accurate lilac. I do love lilac, but I am a bit disappointed that the rhubarb is not more noticeable. It's a beautiful perfume, but not too original. Very good if you are a huge lilac fan. It feels like you are standing right next to a lilac bush on a warm day. On me this fragrance lasts quite a long time - maybe 5 or 6 hours. But, most Jo Malone perfumes last on me for some reason.

At first, i thought it was sweet during its initial burst. (and I dislike sweet scents) but when it settles down, it turned mild, tamed friendly kind of scent. I love how heliotrope and lilac is blended.

i really, really wish it had more rhubarb in it. i wanted it to smell of may - the sunlight, the blooming lilacs, the tart, juicy rhubarb dipped in sugar. while it is a relatively photorealistic lilac (not sweet enough for the light purple one, not potent enough for the white one, i guess it's the closest to the dark purple variation) with plenty of leaves and stems, it lacks the warmth, the dew, the refreshing aroma of spring. it's just a tiny bit too harsh and cloying, leaning into a somber bouquet of lilacs brought into a dusty, cold room. the longevity is not as impressive as with the other jo malone scents i have, but i sort of appreciate that in this case - i wouldn't want it to stick for too long, it would be straight up tiresome. nonetheless - it's a very interesting and well made perfume, just not quite what i wanted.

Thank you Liz Ann for the generous decant! I love the smell of lilacs and this really takes me to the lovely bushes in full bloom. It also makes me realize that perfumes can be too realistic. I want to smell like a lilac bush, only more sophisticated and interesting. I don't detect any rhubarb, but I think it would have been lovely if it had been more prominent and tempered the sweetness of the lilacs. The drydown is not very interesting. It just kind of fades into a soft, white musk. So, contrary to my predictions, this is not a FB-purchase for me. It is not bad, just a bit bland, but very true to the flower after which it is named.

I used to work at a convent school that had an enormous lilac hedge. I love the smell of lilacs, but this was just too realistic for me. I kept thinking that I was going to sneeze as if there was a huge bunch of lilacs there. Mind you, my nose wasn't itchy, it was more like a Pavlovian response. There are lilacs here...next step sneeze. Bizarre sensation. I wish there were more Rhubarb. It was there and it was more noticible as time went on. Such pretty bottles!!!

I definitely smell the sourness of the rhubarb, which makes it seem sort of masculine to me. I don't find it sweet, and I don't really perceive much lilac. I don't hate it (i.e., I don't find it outright offensive), but I wouldn't wear it again.

This is a great lilac perfume! I'm currently on a lilac binge, and am smitten with rhubarb, so this perfume was a must for me. It has a very strong, realistic lilac, fantastic heliotrope, and all sorts of green garden frills. I really like it, but when analyzing my reaction there was a tiny thorn. With spring around the corner, I probably have a fixation on uber-fresh, still dripping with sap, blooms. Anything that interferes, like the rhubarb's sourness, catches my OCD attention, no matter how slight. The rhubarb, with its tart acidic aroma, quells the sweetness so that it doesn't become saccharine, a plus. But, maybe a little too much. In the open, there's a trifling bitter undercurrent. This goes away quickly, however in the drydown, it seems it makes the lilac and heliotrope dull from a fresh cut aura to more of a simulacrum. Still beautiful, but having a slightly aged "perfume-y vintage-y" feel. I know I am quibbling here and it won't deter me from wearing this fragrance. The notes are natural, the emphasis on lilac is gorgeous. And it is one of the best lilacs I've worn. I just don't want the bloom to fade.

Very fresh smelling realistic lilac smells as if the lilac came right from the bush. The lilac is backed up with a bit of sour rhubarb and a lot of green stem and leaf smells. Heliotrope and rose are there in the background but the overwhelming notes are the realistic lilac and the sharp bite of the rhubarb. When first sprayed on, this cologne is very sharp smelling and too much so for my taste. After almost an hour it had developed into a softer more perfume like scent. While this is pretty, it is a bit too realistic for my taste. I would be most likely to use this as a home air perfume. It would be a lovely home scent for spring and summer.

This is the truest lilac in a fragrance that I have ever encountered. If you close your eyes, you can imagine yourself standing beside a lilac bush. The rhubarb takes a back seat here. My only complaint however is the longevity. The fragrance lasted at most thirty minutes. Not so much as a trace left. Some bath and body sprays outlast this. For such a beautiful true fragrance, it's a shame it doesn't last because you really want it to. If you can or don't mind reaplying repeatedly, this could be the one. Spring is in the air!

I agree with the comments about the realistic white lilac top note. When you first spray it on BAM- Perfect, dripping white lilac, just after, BAM- green tartness, and yes, I can visualize the rhubarb! Brilliant opening to experience a spring/summer feeling. Then it warms up to a sunny, rosey floral and stays there. I don't care for the dry-down. I comented on my review for Iris & Lady Moore cologne that all three scents in the London Blooms collection seem to be all about the top notes, which is too bad.

I love lilac smells, but since so many tend to be artificial lilac and nothing else or combined with a powdery smell ...I've usually felt lilac scents to be lacking. But I'm quite fond of the mix of Lilac and crisp but light green in this scent. (i just wish it was easier to find!) Maybe my body chemistry for it, but so far all Jo Malone scents i've tried have all lasted very long on me.

Very realistic lilac scent, green, fresh, in my opinion, one of the best lilac scent there is.. I dont quite detect the rhubarb, and it turns ratter quickly into a sweet fresh lilac scent, which smells real pretty..longevity on me is nice, if I found it at a good price, I would enjoy such a pretty creation .! Nagel' s creations are just soo good..

Lilac is one of my all time favourite scents, I have four varieties of lilac tree in my garden. I suspect there is a good lilac here, but I can't find it for the massive rhubarb patch in front of it. So unutterably sour to my nose, one sniff on my skin turned my face into a quantum singularity. Sorry. Got no further. Interstellar, in a bad way.

Very realistic, slightly sharp lilac- pleasant enough, but sadly,it has absolutely no sillage.
