Wood Sage & Sea Salt

Lovely scent. I was worried it would err too feminine for me, but it doesn't. It definitely has an air of softness that I enjoy as an effeminate man. I can't see most super masc people (who prefer very masc scents) enjoying this, but it's not overly feminising. I was also worried it would smell a bit too herbal, that maybe it would smell like I'm posing too hard as some whose always like,,, out in nature, with a scent like this?? I know that sounds silly, but it was a worry. But it doesn't feel like that at all. Something about it feels very apt. I've been wearing this even when I'm not going anywhere, it's really nice. Something about working from home, fumbling over a million excel formulas whilst I can smell this, it somehow works? I guess it's the element of mixing the messy with the elegant (see: all the love going toward beat up birkins lately). I think fragrantica users are a bit overexposed to scents, either that, or I'm the outlier with this fragrance. It lasts at least an hour on me, I've no idea why people are saying 10 minutes. So, sillage isn't the worst. I suppose it's a bit of a bummer when it's expensive, but 1) From everything I've read, that's to be expected with Jo Malone 2) When it smells like this, I really can't complain. I assume the more intimate skin scent stays longer, but once you've been wearing it for a while you get used to it (like, this is literally how BO works too). Projection wise, I can't smell most colognes on myself. But with this one, every time my arm comes anywhere near my face I smell it. So the projection really isn't as bad as people say. If you always have a scent projecting over a metre around you, I hate to say it, but the people around you probably don't like that... I work with a guy that resprays what smells to me like Lush's Vegan Leather Jacket (knowing the kind of guy it is, it's probably something else, but it smells the same to me ---sidenote on this tangent... If what he's spraying is really Zoologist T Rex, as I've seen that compared...... That's another level dude LMAO. I guess it does suit him, he's some rugged 40+ year old smoker but also WHY are you filling your office with T Rex every hour????? Okay okay okay moving on we're off topic as hell-) and I'm sorry, but people do not like when you leave a scent trail like that. No hate to that guy in particular, but it's an example of the way people think on this site not really copying through to real life.

my parents got this as a gift a few years back but they barely wear fragrances so it somehow ended up in my hands as one of my first fragrances a few years back so it does hold some sentimental value from that fresh, salty and fairly reminiscent of a breeze on the ocean or some larger body of water (lake michigan comes to mind personally), yet paradoxically feels slightly dry and woody as well, perhaps powdery is a better word? supposedly contains grapefruit according to the notes on this page but i dont get any. theres a slight sweetness presumably from the ambrette seed but its nowhere near cloying. as far as im aware, sandalwood isnt present in this but theres a woodiness that evokes the image (maybe not the scent) of sandalwood in my mind, like sand colored shards of wood covered in a light dust. id say its unisex and doesnt really lean towards female nor male and everyone can pull this off, very inoffensive and wearable in almost any setting the scent is fairly linear, as time progresses nothing really changes much besides maybe the freshness of the initial spray dying down after the first 5-10 mins. it maintains the woodiness and the light sweetness and dry saltiness throughout its span, keeping close to the skin with very weak projection. unfortunately, as mentioned by everyone else, performance is abysmal; lasts maybe 1-3 hours max before i have to physically dig my nose into my skin if i want to catch any whiffs, while barely projecting like mentioned. wish jo malone released an intense version or a stronger concentration that lasts longer than the flavor of gum, but im guessing this is done on purpose to maybe appeal to people who prefer lighter scents that dont immediately fill whatever room the wearer walks into. lovely smell for the spring and summer, shame it barely lasts or projects and is fairly expensive for the performance it provides 9/10 smell 3/10 performance and price for performance, 6/10 overall?

This is just beautiful. Its opening is bright, fresh and aromatic – truly addictive. It settles into something light and gentle, but with character and distinction. I understand why some would say it leans more towards feminine, but I do think it’s a good example of a unisex fragrance – aromatic ad woody without being sharp, with a delicate, nearly powdery (yet not dry!) tone to it. It does feel like you are standing at a beach in England or Ireland on a cloudy day, but in the best way possible, just enjoying the views and taking the nature around in, feeling the breeze and catching that lovely salty seaweed smell in the air. Grapefruit gives it a fresh start while ambrette softens it making it rounder and cosier after some 30 minutes. I can easily detect the seaweed and woody notes on me, and nothing sweet at all – again, delicate and slightly cosy. I love this fragrance! Projection is poor, it’s more of an aura than a trail. It’s something for you to enjoy on yourself and feel good about the way you smell to yourself. Longevity is decent, I think. Similar to other fragrances by Jo Malone, its close to skin very quickly, but somehow I keep getting whiffs of the scent for at least 6 hours, which is decent for a cologne. Interestingly, when I try to locate where I am getting the scent from when I get these whiffs during the day, I smell my wrists and catch nothing. It seems to be coming from my chest area – as if the fragrance has been protected to perform a bit more under my shirt. I’ll surely buy a full bottle.

Wood, Sage & Sea Salt is actually very good! Its one of the few fragrances that the reformulation improved on (longevity, projection, performance); Its perfectly unisex & really smells different on everyone's skin, im a guy who wears it in my 30s but my 70 year old mother also wears it, just to provide some range in its appeal. Despite wood being in name sake there's virtually none (the ambrette must be doing that, since its technically a seed), its a very aquatic, ozonic & citrus based fragrance. There's also a soft green accord on the base with a whiff of salt. Its probably my favorite Jo Malone fragrance. As with other Jo Malone fragrances, the only negative is their not great at longevity & projection! However, other famous fragrances like light blue for women is a timeless best seller despite short longevity. . Jo Malone goes for realism in their scent profiles & that's okay for me, so you might need to spray 4-6 times minimum to get it to last. I honestly only get 4 hours but im okay with that, I love layering this with cypress & grapevine to help extend its duration. Which Jo Malone also encourages layering so that's also important. . . Overall I adore Wood Sage & Sea Salt & think its a great layering fragrance for all ages, genders & occasions. While primarily a warmer weather fragrance, its herbal base & slightly woodsy lends it for all year round. Very happy with this scent. Its very rare I own a fragrance everyone in my family likes.

Hi All, I broke. What I mean is: I am broke after breaking and buying this. The more I wear this, the more I fall in deep, intoxicating love. As I mentioned earlier, this actually has a soft, aromatic sweet-tinged smell to me. Yet, this is also a fantastic unisex scent - I would love to smell this on my husband (he is more of a clean original Dove body wash scent guy...which, granted, smells wonderful on him). The tiny sage scent is amazing. I was worried because the scent of fresh sage leaves is *pungent*. Not that problem here. The sea salt smell is beachy - BUT more of a cold beach in Britain. Certainly makes sense seeing as Jo Malone is an English brand. Don't be fooled into thinking this is a hot, blinding-white sandy beach scent. It's not at all. I am so very obsessed with this smell that I feel like this is the scent I want my (unborn, and even unconceived) children to remember as their mother's scent while giving them loving childhood hugs. Like, this perfume makes me plan for the future! I gave this a previous rating of 9.5/10 because the lasting power isn't incredible - but if you can make me think of my future life with happiness, you deserve top scores. *** Kitty rating: 10/10!

Smelled a decant and bought it immediately. As others have stated, this like one of the cleanest most high end places one could hope to visit. This is probably what Martha Stewart's guest house smells like. If possible, my house and car would smell like this at all times. The notes breakdown captures it all - Grapefruit/sage with a tinge of musk. No random synthetic notes. Clean, fresh, but still natural. This is my first and last Jo Malone purchase. This is the fragrance equivalent of buying fireworks - awesome for a few minutes, but ultimately a waste of money. People on Fragrantica often complain about longevity if something becomes a skin scent after an hour (rightfully so). This is rapidly turning into a skin scent before the droplets that didn't stick to you hit the floor, thus, demoting my bottle into the most expensive air freshener I've ever sat next to my toilet. If Jo Malone could figure out how to make this last longer than 12 minutes, they could hurt the market share of some serious brands and my checking account. Lucky for me, it has the lifespan of a hot dog dropped in front of an overweight pit bull. Spend your money elsewhere.

Jo Malone's Wood Sage & Sea Salt is one of the most beautiful and unique fragrances I've ever owned. It's fresh, airy, and effortlessly elegant, capturing the feeling of standing on a windswept coastline with salty sea air, soft sage, and warm driftwood. Unlike many perfumes, it isn't overly sweet or heavy, making it sophisticated enough for everyday wear while still feeling distinctive. I receive compliments almost every time I wear it. UNFORTUNATELY, the longevity is beyond disappointing. For a fragrance at this price point, I expected it to last for hours, but on my skin the scent begins fading within 30 to 60 minutes and is almost completely gone shortly afterward. I've tried applying it to moisturized skin and clothing, but the performance simply doesn't match the quality of the fragrance itself. If Jo Malone could improve the staying power, this would easily be a five-star fragrance and one I would purchase over and over again. As it stands, I absolutely adore the scent—but it's hard to justify the price when it disappears so quickly.

Wood Sage and Sea Salt was my wedding perfume. Our wedding was located on a small island on the northern coast of Norway. It was in July, and the weather was typical for the season with grey skies, wind, 12 degrees celsius and foggy mountains. The vegetation was intensely green and the shore salty and wet by waves crashing in. We had our wedding portraits taken on the rocks by the sea, sea spray in our faces and all. Wood Sage and Sea Salt was a perfect choice. I don ́t think a pretty rose/pink/fruit classic wedding day perfume would have fitted that moment at all. Wood Sage and Sea Salt is really close to everything that the shores of the northern sea smells like during summer. Herbal, salty, ocean but not “aqua”, driftwood and seaweed. It is a summer scent, but has absolutely no trace of tropical or beachy stuff. To me it is safe and reminds me of my home. It ́s not long lasting though, as I am sure everyone is aware by now. Does not leave much of a trail either.

There’s almost nothing you can do wrong with this fragrance! It’s feminine without cliché, light yet distinctive — the kind of scent that feels like clean skin rather than perfume. If your goal is simply to smell effortlessly good, in any season or setting, this belongs in your rotation. It layers beautifully. The structure avoids florals, leaning instead into texture and translucence, sea salt and air, but without any of the usual marine tropes. The effect is refined, subtly edgy, and subtly luxurious. There’s a thread of sensuality woven through, elevating what could have been a polite neutral into something quietly magnetic. It sits perfectly at that intersection between composure and raw beauty. To me it smells graceful and grounded, impossible to offend. Lastly, I agree with the other reviews on here about longevity, wish it lasted longer but still highly recommend.

So good, even for a man(me). Anyway, less the performance issues (overspray and carry decant) it's a summer staple BUT not at that price. Many, many many alternatives with this dna are available. I have several because I love it so much and everyone is close but more importantly everyone is very nice and a go to. Even a cheapie and really hard to find Paris Corner Salty Breeze, which is the furthest from og, but really fun to wear. Super salty but not Megamare. Anyway this one is begging for an extrait but I don't think it's in the cards because a lot of Jo Malone fragrances are designed that way. I do think Perfume Parlour's version is my closest. The nice thing is I got both the EDP version and the Extrait from PP and layered together is MONEY!!! Projects better with edp and last longer with extrait.

I mostly get sage and sea salt in this one. With the grapefruit as third most prominent. It’s very fresh and herbal like what I’d imagine standing by the sea during cooler temps, smelling the ocean spray and sage near by. This is a perfect scent for hot weather. I live in a tropical climate and this one is great in 100 degrees with high humidity or our Winter temps of 50-60 degrees. Though I will say this shines in the heat. It’s perfectly unisex with a very itty bitty hint of cologne. But overall it’s a great fresh out the shower, cooling scent. If you like it, I recommend getting the gift set to be able to reapply during the day or decant some since the lasting power is about 3-4 hours on skin and clothes. Great freshie for those that like green aquatic scents.

Will forever have memories of smelling this for the first time in a Sephora with my boyfriend and him loving it so verbally for the first time. He's not the one for sparking up a convo about scents, but when I ask his opinion on a scent he always tries his absolute best to communicate his thoughts in a vivid and funny manner :) Maybe this could be our joint wedding perfume. Anyway, I wish it lasted longer than an hour but Im still happy I got it. I love how the adverts were captured by Tim Walker. He could have gone whimsier though. Not much to say about this one, it is very pretty and innocent, but in a boyish manner. I like how it smells after it settles down. Sad that it disappears 20 minutes after that phase. Still worth it!

In my opinion it's a very safe blind buy. Nothing to hate, really good quality, but also nothing to fall inlove into, bc it's very simple (someone may love it). The smell I would describe as calm, fresh, comfortable, bright, modern, uplifting. It affects my mood in a positive way. I don't get very strong seaweed, seasalt and sage smell, maybe because they are nicely blended into something very fresh and bright, rather than dirty and masculine sea smell like megamare or aqua di Gio. It's not projecting, almost at all, same about the longevity. Perfectly unisex (not too sweet, not too aromatic), not complicated (can be easily layered), uplifting (mood booster) , for nature lovers (smells like clean fresh air)

A few years back, you tuber Lily Pebbles talked about this fragrance in a video. She described it as a fresh, salty marine scent with a herbal note from the sage and my curiosity was piqued. At the time Jo Malone wasn't available in my country so I was only able to try it later when transiting through an airport. It immediately invoked the image of a beach, bright sunshine, waves lapping gently at my feet, light perspiration on clean glistening skin (from being out in the sun). It was beautiful and the day after Jo Malone opened their store, I snagged myself a bottle. The longevity is poor and for me, this is a skin scent but I don't care and still love it. I will always have it in my collection.

A lovely fresh, aromatic, salty, and citrusy scent. This makes me feel like I'm standing on a cliff overlooking a stormy sea, the waves are crashing, it's windy, and I'm being lightly misted with sea water. It opens with a strong, refreshing bergamot and settles down into a salty, musky smell. Addictive. I don't think I'll wear this in warm weather though because the one time I did, it just made me smell vaguely BO-ey and musky in a way I didn't want. This is better to wear in cool weather, and vibe/energy wise this perfume brings cool weather to mind, anyways. I know JM fragrances tend to be light and have poor longevity, but this one actually has moderate longevity on my skin!

i think it is definitely a little more feminine leaning. I don't really know what a sea salt note or sage smells like so i won't speak on that. But what i can say is that i think the citrus note on here is definitely not sharp and i hate when perfume has a very sharp smell to it (doesn't matter what kind of notes) but this scent is not sharp at all, i find it very rounded smell if you get what i mean. It is quite unique i think and not juvenile smelling. and this side note is for me personally, but i think this scent can easily give me headache if it's oversprayed. There are perfumes that are tolerable when oversprayed but i think this scent is better for like intimate smell.

Been wearing this fragrance for at least a year now and I really do love it, smells like freshly washed hair to me and the air after it rains (none of my friends agree with my comparison). However, no one really smells this on me and its longevity sucks!!!!! like really bad. I remember having a conversation with a friend in which they told me they were considering purchasing a full bottle, and I said no way! I wear it all the time! And they were like really? They had also been wearing it themselves and neither of us noticed... So yeah longevity and silage are very very weak. Wish they sorted it out ;-; Smells amazing tho and its quite fresh, clean and a classic fragrance.

This is one of my absolute favourites and easily signature-worthy for me. It’s light, airy, and effortlessly natural. That salty, slightly mineral freshness with soft woods just works in a way that never feels forced or “perfumey”. It sits close, creating a gentle scent bubble rather than projecting loudly, which I really appreciate. I reach for this when I want to smell clean, calm, and put together without thinking too much. It’s incredibly easy to wear and suits almost any setting. The only downside is performance. It doesn’t last or project much, but for this type of scent, that almost feels intentional. A constant in my collection and one I would always repurchase.

This is a great beach scent, depicting definitely northern windy coastal weather rather than sunny beaches. As a lover of gloomy weather, I really appreciate this scent. Most so-called "beach scents" are just headache-inducing cheap "ocean-scented" car fresheners to me. Not this one. What I generally love about Jo Malone fragrances, is how toned down they are. None of the scents I tried are overpowering, they are all peaceful and pleasant, suitable for everyday wear. What I also appreciate about Jo Malone scents is that even my untrained nose can tell the notes apart, yet they are also very well blended. Do I wish it lasted longer? Sure. But I love it nonetheless.
