Folle De Joie

On me, I get an immediate hit of fresh gardenia flowers, followed a half second behind by grapefruit and lime and tea rose. Then the jasmine comes to play, but it stays in the background. The iris is so light, it's hard to find...I think because it's blended so nicely together with the rose. No cognac on me, but the orange peel part of the citrus comes out more after drydown. It may be late to the party, but it's lovely! As for the spicy note, on me the "spice" is more a blend of tea rose and orange peels rather than a foody spice. The tearose and orange mix is most apparent after drydown, and it's very nice, with the jasmine still present in the background. At one point I caught the tiniest whiff of clove, but it quickly disappeared behind the orange, tea rose, and jasmine. As I smelled my wrist yet again to try to find the leather (I couldn't), I realized what Folle de Joie smells like on me, and what it reminds me of: It smells exactly like summer evenings in the Florida neighborhood where my grandmother lived when I was little: Orange, grapefruit, and lime trees laden with fruit that had been warming all day in the sun. The gardenias in her yard. The next door neighbor's tea roses. The night blooming jasmine...all of it mixed together in the breeze, with each thing becoming slightly stronger or softer depending on where you were walking at any given moment. I love this as a departure from my usual favorites. This floral is not sweet at all, yet it doesn't have that strange greenness my chemistry hates. My only complaint is the bottle: it looks more like an early 20th century bottle of gentlemen's cologne than a woman's fragrance. I ended up buying another fragrance I loved equally well but whose bottle looked nicer on the vanity tray. If I buy this, it will live in the drawer. (Better for the fragrance, but not as fun!) Allergy note: no migraine or nausea trigger for me!

For the new formulation: Absolutely beautiful perfume. This is the type of perfume that you think of when you think of perfume. A perfumey perfume. Citrus, floral, musk, and slightly woody. The opening was sparkling, the mid was all floral, and the base is a skin musk and cedar. I love it. I wouldn't pay $120 for it, but I found it on clearance for $16 at TJ Maxx. I have had my eye on it for over 2 weeks, playing the dangerous game of waiting for more markdowns. I'm happy I finally picked it up, it will be great for the Florida summer. I haven't smelt the 2014 rendition, but this is great on its own. Current notes: Top: green pear, Japanese yuzu, Morrocan blood orange Mid: peony petals, Egyptian rose, French jasmine sambac Base: sheer amber, skin musks, Virginia cedarwood

Loved this scent since getting the sample in my birchbox back in 2014. I just love something about the citruses and roses mixed together. I still have 1/4 of my bottle and it smells great still. When I learned it discontinued I was so disappointed and it has been a mission of mine to find a similar perfume. I finally found it a few weeks ago and as I was following this lady at a kid's birthday party. I asked what she was wearing and she said Montale Roses Musk. Montale is a bit more musky, but I still get the top notes of being roses and citrus. Hope this helps for others that are looking for a similar perfume.

I was obsessed with the 2014 version. It was the closest thing I've ever found to what I'd choose as a signature scent -- it felt fresh, feminine, but also dried down a bit earthy. I would've purchased this over and over again, even though, like other reviewers have noted, the sillage and longevity are low. Joie recently relaunched/rebranded the fragrance, but the more recent version is nothing like the original. I've been searching for a close match to the 2014 Folle de Jie for almost a decade now and have not yet found one.

The 2014 version is burned into my brain as one of the best smelling perfumes of all time. I still have about 1/4 of an inch left in the bottle. The newer release is lovely, but doesn’t smell the same. The older version has more of a fresh delicate rose with a musk dry down. It smells like how you should feel on your wedding day. The closest comparison I’ve found so far is the Khloe kardashian perfume oddly enough.

Sweet, fresh, warm petals. A favorite rose of mine, as i like fresh rose scents, but unlike my other favorite roses which tend towards the spiced precision of a fresh-cut rose, this is a soft, damp, muted rose. Not powdery like a lily might be, but just as soft, and the citrus is nearly a green tea scent, pale and sweet, a sheer voile sunshade, not a strong citrus canvas at all.

I LOVE this scent - got a sample of it in Birchbox and I'm enchanted. Spicy and clean, and deep. I'd love a bottle.

Just purchased this today at Marshall’s. I sprayed it on my wrist and neck on the way to Target. I know, Marshall’s AND Target in the same day! What a wild woman I am🤣 Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised! It’s lovely, it is soft citrus rose petals with a little spice. It dries down very woody though, so I can see someone not enjoying that. It feels clean and feminine. It is still lingering on me and it’s been at least 3 hrs. That’s fine with me because the woody, earthy, citrus dry down would be too much for me if it lasts more than 4 or 5 hours. But I still really like it so far. Would love to smell the 2014 version!

I swear there is water more fragrant than this! I get these notes, but they are all very weak: citrus, tea (not listed), rose. There's just nothing to this scent. The strongest thing is the initial blast of perfumer's alcohol. What exists in this scent is pleasant and generic, almost like a nice shampoo. If you like the idea of perfume but are fearful of offending anyone, this is for you. Oh, and it "lasts" about half an hour. I was overall very disappointed in this eau du parfum and used almost my entire sample to smell enough to write this review.

Really liked this summery scent that I received as a sample. I've used almost half of it in a matter of 2 days because the scent just doesn't last very long. I've put it on my pulse points and even tried it on fabric, but it just wears off about about 1.5 hours. If it lasted longer, I'd give this scent 5 out of 5 stars for daytime summer use. So, I give it about a 3 because at the price it is listed for a full bottle, I can't fathom actually purchasing it due to it's longevity.

Also received a sample in birchbox, this is one of the scents that really caught my nose and got me into fragrance. It is juicy citrus and cool wood to me. Could be unisex perhaps. I loved it when I first tried it and did not have many scents to compare it to. Now when I wear it I find it almost too woodsy for me. But it is a great scent and I will drain my sample. As a side note, this scent has hundreds of rave reviews on birchbox. It really is pleasing.

I never thought of myself as a rose girl until I tried this, t's not rosey like rose water or grandma's thanks to the citrus, spice, and woods that keeps it more youthful, fun, and interesting. Not sure if I would repurchase since I don't even know which formulation I had but will remember it as the scent that led me to reconsider roses.

for the current formula: it opens much too floral for my taste (personally i get little if any citrus from it), but around thirty minutes to an hour later it mellows out into something i do like quite a lot. about two hours in, you can smell the musk a lot more with the rose more in the background, which is probably my favorite part

I reviewed this back in 2014. I liked it then and I love it now. It's such a bummer this was discontinued, because I would buy another bottle in two seconds, even though I have 70% left in my bottle. It's a perfect summer scent to me. I am trying out 19-69 Capri and the dry-down is the closest I've found yet.

This is a great spring fragrance. Prominent rose with a citrusy background. Where some florals come off as synthetic, Folle De Joie is airy, light, and fresh. It's a bit too feminine for me to press "love" but it is so well blended that I know many others will adore this fragrance.

Sprayed this on my hand about fifteen minutes ago and was pleasantly surprised- that boozy spicy note kicks in at the top with some citrus and it is really lovely.... But then this screechy fake rose and citrus started dominating over everything and it smells a bit like bathroom cleaner or nair to my nose. I may try re-testin when I feel bold but so far, not loving this. On a second go, I'm not sure if my tester really separated out notes somehow but now it's predominantly rose and citrus. Light, pleasant, smells like a typical floral soap of the 90s. Neither a hate nor a love.

All I really got from this were flowers. Once the initial florals hit me, while they stayed, a fruity, "green-ness" (hope I'm describing this correctly so please bear with me) opened up and it gave me a headache. It smelled good, though a bit fruity, sprayed straight out of the bottle but mixed poorly with my skin chemistry. And yes, this is a main problem of mine when tryin out new frags lol...they change completely when they hit my skin; so alot of my future reviews will most likely end up noting this.

If this one didn't make me sneeze, it might be okay to wear once in a while, but it still wouldn't be a favorite. Rose lovers should try it.

Bought a full bottle after receiving the sample in birchbox (a looong time ago!!). This is a lovely floral, milky scent - I adore it!! However, the longevity and sillage are quite low. If anyone knows of match/similar scent that actually lasts, please let me know.

This is quite delicate for a woody/musk. I double-checked the bottle because I was sure it was an Eau de Cologne concentration, but nope, it's parfum. It's mostly iris and wood with some pepper to keep it interesting - very enjoyable, and quite light.
