Joop! Berlin

I cannot resist comparing this discontinued gem to Champs-Elysees, both in composition and in the mood they create - the happy carefree feel. Certainly there are differences: Berlin is powderier, fruitier, and not as sparkling BUT the Champs-Elysees has that melon note, which on some days comes out rotten on me, and Berlin doesn't have that (phew!). Berlin feels like the only slightly more mature and not as giggly older sister of Champs-Elysees - but certainly not old enough to be born in the '80s, imo. There's nothing '80s-attention-dominating or aldehydic about it, on me at least, which is what I think of when I think of that perfume era. I would rather wear Berlin on any day when I feel like wearing Champs-Elysees to avoid the potential melon disaster. Alas, Berlin has become really hard for me to track down in a reasonable price:size ratio... I guess I'll just have to keep gambling with the Guerlain.

Lots of people have already described it adequately, so I'll just say that it's lovely enough, but, for my particular needs, not worth the current sky-high prices its discontinued status is commanding. For any tuberose fanatics considering a blind-buy, I would put the tuberose note much, much further down on the pyramid. Seriously, if I hadn't seen tuberose listed in the notes, I might not have guessed it was there. Update: After wearing Berlin a few times and during different weather, I have to agree that it's pretty special. It reminds me of original Donna Karan (black swan) *after* the leather top notes have faded. Berlin is fruitier (there are some subtle banana molecules in there, right?) than the Karan, but they share an elegant, understated, sweet femininity with just the right amount of subtle musk. I would also put lime much higher up on the notes pyramid.

The fruity floral is perhaps the toughest of genres to convince gents that there is unisex potential. There is seldom anything aromatic, woody, mossy, or dry to contrast with or underpin the fruits, flowers, and sweet resins. That said, there is something to be said for the way plum and peach mingles with tuberose and other florals, almost like thickly laid brushstrokes, an olfactory impasto. Joop! Berlin, long discontinued, is one that is a bit more softened courtesy of heliotrope, vanilla, and tonka, making it feel like a dreamy cloud. As a result, this is not the wild ride that comes from wearing Cacharel LouLou or Ungaro Senso. It trades a head shop incense feel for a mild, cushiony, musky sandalwood. It's a realm of nuance that would predict concepts that flourished into the 90s.

This is Berlin for me, even more Potsdam (where Wolfgang Joop has a lovely villa overlooking a lake). You might think "Prussian" means harsh and tough but there is a whole Prussian tradition that meanders between French Rocoo, Arcadia and Romantic ideals. The Berlin of Queen Louise. In my head, I associate this perfume with my personal discovery of Berlin in the 90s, when I took the time to dive into this city's history. The perfume is light and elegant, not too sweet, and it lasts. Yes, it's a typical 80s and 90s scent, fruity-floral, but it has lots of character. Its base note is for me the most charming part of this perfume. It felt like a part of me. I'll have to check what's up with my old bottle - and maybe buy a new one. Especially before I go to Berlin next month!

Joop Berlin is a discontinued gem, that should never had been discontinued. I had a bottle many years ago, and among the tuberose fragrances I have tried, Berlin is truly one of the most unique and beautiful that.Trying to describe it so many years later is hard, but the tuberose was surrounded by notes that lifted the scent to another level, it was distinctly unique and stunning. If I could choose to bring back fragrances from the the past , Berlin would surely be one of them.

I have yet to find anything that comes close to Joop Berlin as my ultimate feel-good scent. It is guaranteed to put a smile on my face. Light and luscious all at the same time. Loved it in the 90's and still love it. There's a lot going on here in terms of notes but I think there's a lovely balance between a number of its aspects - green, caramel (a 'lite' caramel), plummy fruity-floral, oriental amber and creamy sandalwood. I love the way these accords are combined in Berlin.

I was able to buy 2x5ml, I will cheris every drop of this beauty! Memories rushed back to me upon wearing it, such comfortable fragrance. I love how dynamic it is, young and confident. I hate that they discontinued it - have you seen the prices on Ebay or any other site??? mindblowing, I am not sure if I wanna drop $150 on a bottle...really sad :/

I bought a bottle of Joop! Berlin over the internet for 3 euros. 100ml almost full. A-ma-zing. By far the best of all Joop! fragrances and clearly before the tsunami of flankers of all the other versions. Love it. It made my day to walk around Amsterdam smelling like chique 90's.

I wore this to death when I lived in Germany! The wall fell down and hope was in the air. That hopeful feeling is the memory that I'll always link to this fruity-floral and somewhat warm fragrance. I have tried getting another bottle to no avail. Memories.

I loved this fragrance in the 90s on girls and wore it also myself, because it has a very attractive powerful and unique smell. I still don't know an really good alternative for that? I had the nice pyramid box versions. Joop should bring it back!

Sweet memories! I used it when I was in my early twenties, always in love, always on the go, I was as dynamic as Berlin and this scent! So vibrant so alive, differently feminine, never average. I miss this perfume.

Rumour has it that every time Angel is visiting Berlin, she falls on her knees and kisses the ground while whispering: "Mother..." A melancholic wraith of a rose is watching from the aisles...

smells just like Haribo Happy Cherries!

21. january 2014 My review is based on using this fragrance from full size spray bottle, since i think it might change in minis, however i am not sure. I might be considered a lucky one to have 2x100ml bottles of this sought after fragrance, but honestly i don ́t get the hype around this fragrance. I do think it is not a bad one, it smells delicious, but as a lover of tuberose i have so many other tuberose fragrances that are loder and way more lasting than "Berlin", that i am quite neutral about it. As someone already mentioned before, this one doesn ́t have much sillage or lasting power (or at least i don ́t get it from my skin). Yes it is a detectable, but still tends to have "soft" sillage on me, no matter how many times i have tried it and what weather was outside (usual 3-4 sprays). I love the opening very much, i smell a strong mix of tuberose and caramel with sweet ripe plum. YUMMY! However for some of us the caramel note might feel bit out of the whole composition. The whole bouquet of notes is quite dry and well balanced by green notes, which are not overshadowing the flower-fruty notes, yet save this fragrance from becoming sickeningly sweet. I also smell clearly a strong heliotrope note in here. The drydown somehow has a connection to the original "Joop pour femme" and since "Berlin" was launched in 1990 it still gravitates towards 80 ́s perfumes: bold, loud, strong BUT only for a short while and then it becomes quite soft (the soft sillage i have mentioned before). For me this is a wintertime fragrance: the colder the better. That ́s when it works best, otherwise during warmer weather it is a almost undetectable on me. NIce, very nice, however bit dissapointing. I have to spray really much this one to smell it the way i smell other tuberose fragrances. I love the opening and i wish it would last longer than 20 minutes. That ́s why i also agree that the price range for ths fragrance is not justified. P.S. I have finally purchased a Pure Parfum of this fragrance, and would love to try it when it will arrive, if it smells even better? Please do not remove this comment, since others might find it useful. I miss this too and I loved it..It was my signature in my first 1-2 years at college and all my friends loved it on me..it was so different compared with the frags they were wearing..its special to me..I wish it would continue..and it was different from all other floral scents..very special :)

Oh I used to love this so much! I was so young, I remember nearly every new perfume on the market was a revelation for me and I had to have it! We adored Joop fashion (which we could never afford to buy). This is sweet and illuminating. It's like a sunrise at the beach without the sea.

Berlin Joop is a fragrance of many flowers, it contains a large amount of flowers so that in some ways reminds me of Paco Rabanne Calandre, Berlin, however, seems less complex while maintaining something of a vintage. I call it a perfume more suited to women than to girls, but this potion is able to bring back the carefree years, the fragrance is fresh and relaxed and not at all boring where the flowers (and they are really good) blend with sweet notes in the finish, leaving a trail dust and gently spiced. I did a little experiment: over a card I paid for electro emanator a drop from a mignon on one side of Berlin and on the other side a drop of essence of sandalwood and the results were surprising: Berlin makes friends with everyone ... but really with all.

I found a 50 ml online for 20 euro's so i had to grab it. I have read a lot about it but i had never smelled it before. I am mildly obsessed with other joop creations so i grew terrible curious. If Femme by Joop, wasn't already one of my favorite fragrances ever i would have been more in love with this. This has that fresh aldehydic white floral thing going on but it is much softer then I would have imagined. It's rather soapy too. I'll keep wearing it this week and ease myself into it. I do like it so far. I think i had my expectations on something a little more loud but hey, it is beautiful and i can't wait to see what my nose is going to pick up on the upcoming days. :)

A very kind lady gifted a mini of this to me as a thank you for purchasing some perfumes from her. At the time, I've never heard of this one before, so I had no expectations at all, but wow - another stunning vintage find. The notes listed: plum, tuberose, caramel - I love all of those, but honestly I don't smell any of them in here. It may be that vintage scents are far better blended than more modern ones, but to me this one smells like gummy candies. Not in a gourmand way, in a perfume way. It's a very optimistic, fresh, sweet and slightly floral perfume, very carefree. It makes me happy when I wear it, it's a very good pick me up scent for easygoing days.

I love this fragrance. It is a beautifully crafted fruity floral, in the 80s style, with no artificial and sickly sweet fruit or gourmand notes. It reminds me of other complex and exotic floral scents such as Eau de Gucci by Gucci and Noa Noa by Otto Kern.It has wonderful longevity and a harmonic composition, that is, all the notes work together well. The fruit notes are balanced by the green ones, leaving one with the impression of a tropical forest. Superb!

Honey honey and even more golden honey is what this perfume really smells like to me. But if I sniff for a long time I can find differente notes within this perfectly blendex mix. Tuberrose, sandalwood, cedar, ylang-ylang, plum among others is what I can detect. After drydown it was all about powder. It is sweet as all the Joop perfumes but it is a natural sweetness.

I am wearing this beauty today. I found minature in my parents ́s house bought at the begining of 90s. After almost 30 years it didnt loose it ́s quality. It smells like niche perfumes of these days. I feel tonka bean and orient spices. It is masterpiece. Bring it back. So wonderful.
