Joop! Femme

Being a fan of Joop Homme for all of its metrosexual glory it exudes, I always wondered how the femme version will smell as I had never ever seen it sold in any stores in South Africa, nor was it an easy scent to obtain, i however eventually managed to get a decant sent to me and if testing proved good results I could order a full sized bottle. When my decant arrived i ripped open its packaging and held the the little clear orb it was sent to me in and admired the yellow tinged elixir inside, then seconds later i applied some onto wrist and took the first whiff, to say I was turned away at first smell will be putting it lightly, I recoiled thinking that either the decant is off, or this Joop Femme is just not for me, but i have learned to always let a fragrance sit on your skin before passing full judgement, so i left it to air for five minutes then went in again, and it was then that the magic happened, i fell in love with Joop Femme, i could tell right from then that i was going to love this scent, and boy oh boy i really do. aldehydes, jasmine, rose, orange blossom, coriander, sandalwood, civet, musk, vanilla, amber and patchouli, is basically what i smell in this elixir which makes the entire scent have this nostalgic, dreamy vibe about it. What you smell after the first five minutes is basically what you left with till drydown, just lightening out from an arms length scent to a close proximity scent over its duration. Honestly speaking a guy can surely pull this off as in this day and age, a scent profile like this can pass of easily in the niche market as a unisex fragrance and it would sell extremely well Longevity-8/10 (around 7-8 hours) Sillage- 5/10 ( per my opinion as of now i think its a close encounter scent as i have tested it out twice now and both times in seclusion, so proper sillage still remains to be seen) Scent- 9/10 (With a handful of notes i love in a scent which mixes it so well, how can it get a rating anything below an 8, its a Dreamy creamy concoction that evokes nostalgia whilst standing leagues above the slew of modern candy explosion sugar induced scents) All in all i will give this scent a 9/10 in my books simply because it gets all of my favourite notes into one bottle and does it oh so brilliantly and that too from the house of Joop who in 2021 is regarded to be the makers of cheap fragrances, but whom i time and time again have been impressed by their scents (Joop Homme, Joop Jump, Joop Homme Wild, Joop Go, Joop Homme Absolute, Joop Splash, Joop Wow.) and now their first ever fragrance Joop Femme joins them and lo and behold she takes the number one spot. So next up ordering a full sized bottle or maybe even three of this captivating elixir, even if it does not garner a single compliment i will use it just for me and me alone. P.S- this somehow reminds me of Dolce and Gabbana red cap in a way.

I’m a self confessed vintage lover. Anything from the 80’s and before usually has my full attention. Having been around in the 90’s and early 00’s as a teen gives me the memories and the fun I had. But in retrospect, today, I much prefer the eras before the Calone wave that inundated the world, circa the first half of 1990 boogie. Joop, which is officially from 1987, feels decidedly 1997! But I mean that in a good way! Heavy, padded and coiffed to the 9s it should feel 80’s. But instead, it takes me back to the 90’s, and perfumes like this, Boucheron, D&G Red Cap, Sicily, Addict, Dolce Vita, Rush, Hypnotic Poison, Jungle, Dune...these are some major loves that remind me of my carefree teen years and the fun of the past. Joop is a heavily heavy ambery orange blossom, studded with vanilla and tonka shades amidst warm spicy tones. Its shades of orange/red/brown warm me up like mulled wine. Some perfumes work like specific time machines; I’ve always felt Poeme (it shares a similar albeit gentler olfactive resonance) and Tresor are 8 year old me standing in front of the Lancôme counter. Joop transports me to Christmas shopping. It was so different! It actually felt special! A warm ambiance, Xmas music playing, warming smells anywhere you went, be it chestnuts in street carts, cinnamon potpouri in stores... Joop is a winter scent for me. Underneath the heavy velvet drapes that hide a very vanillic ambery coziness, where orange blossom is so heavy and heady that sometimes feels artificial, where carnation, coriander, sandalwood give it character, all the while gentle aldehydes lift it up...it becomes a comfort scent. One that feels like home and at the same time it cuts through the cold like a hot knife through butter. A sweet oriental or a spicy floriental? It’s perfume with a big fat P. Perfume with presence. Perfume with power. And in the vintage Lancaster bottles, of which I own two, there’s a big fat Sillage and a big fat Longevity. This is the middle finger to Calone; from Germany with love!

Joop! Femme was released when I was 13, and I remember that I was instantly intrigued when I first smelt it. It was the first expensive perfume I'd ever smelt (at that time it was expensive). I really wanted to have a bottle but I couldn't afford it, and a well-meaning aunt thought it was a bit "mature" for a young girl and gifted me a bottle of some fresh unisex Yves Rocher fragrance instead. So I would go and sneak into a perfumery every now and then and spray myself with it and let myself be transported to a glamorous faraway place where, in my imagination, i was leading a glamorous fantasy life. The favourite fragrance was replaced by Trésor when I was 17 (mainly because I was gifted a bottle and had no other perfume), and Jean Paul Gaultier a bit later, but I always had fond memories of Joop! Femme. I sprayed myself with it today when browsing around a drugstore with a designer perfume section, and I was reminded of why I loved this so much. The top notes, that seemed to be so over the top back in the 80ies, were just right now and are not loud at all compared to the usual screamers people are wearing now, be they Xerjoff or Tiziana Terenzi or some cheap dupes. I get mainly soapy aldehydes as a first impression, then the delicate white flowers take the stage. Three hours later I am left with the most amazing drydown, vanilla and amber. The animalic note from the 80ies has been tamed, but it is still beautiful and has nothing in common with the ethylmaltol and ambrocenide syrups of nowadays perfumery. I visited a christmas market earlier and I preferred to sniff my wrist over smelling the mulled wine and sugar-coated almonds. Maybe this is full bottle worthy. Today, it made me really happy.

Got my hands on a vintage splash bottle to compare with it's current formulation, wich i love by the way. Iove this perfume so much! I periodically forget about it but every time i pick it up it's like i am rediscovering it. You could take away every fragrance i own and have me keep just this. I'd be happy as a clam. There is some difference with it's vintage former glory but not significantly so for the untrained nose. The vintage formulation is quite softer, less sharp in the opening. It contains more aldehydes and therefore it projects a lot more so the scent bubble it creates is more grand while at the same time more delicate then it's current self. It's spirit remains the same, the overall scent. It's warm and enviting. Insencey and heady. I feel like today, it is more indolic. Where in the past it was more animalic. Again not something people around you will be able to pick up but in case you are wondering. :) If i had to choose one formula over the other i would't be able to. I am realy glad I've got a vintage one because this perfume in general is realy important to me and i love apreciating it and everything that comes with it. Maybe it's because i was not yet alive during the 80's and therefore have no real association with that era in time, but i don't find this perfume to be extravagantly 80's at all. I recognize the style in perfumery ofcourse there is a patern there. But I think based on the compliments i get from others and in what i perceived myself for the first time when i got in touch with this, it smells smoky and warm. A bit nag champa'ish. Nothing crazy or tacky going on here. But then, i realy love vintage perfumes. :)

This came to me in a precious vintage coffret with Anne Klein II, Perry Ellis 360, Bal A Versailles, Fred Hayman 273, and Animale. I'd found and coveted the set because of my beloved and nearly impossible to obtain Anne Klein II, and I was interested in Animale, BAV and Joop , and curious about the others. I just dabbed a bit on, prepared for the whole cringe-and-scrub show. What a wonderful surprise! I smell heady florals I would expect in a perfume from this era,and the crispness of the aldehydes I have just now come to love. The tuberose in this is velvety instead of rubbery...nothing wrong with rubbery tuberose; in fact, I love it... this one just happens to be velvety, bordering on suede like. While we're on the subject, I *swear* I smell leather, identical to the one in Shalimar... and, strongly! Is it that animalic musk + aldehydes + oak moss= leather? Whatever the sorcery behind it (could be my own skin, or nose) I am happy to have it there, as I am happy to have leather in just about any fragrance. Anyway, back to the floral aspect. I do smell tuberose, but there has to be more to this bouquet... I sense a good dose of narcissus and a whisper of ylang. Yes, I see the notes listed, and I'm telling you, I don't smell rose or orange blossom (two of my favorites, so I am well-versed). I smell narcissus and maybe ylang, so there. All in all, Joop Femme is a womanly, sophisticated, complex joy to wear. I'm working from a mini splash here, so perhaps not getting the throw or longevity I might from a nice satisfying spritz... but, oh, that *will* happen. ;)

If you are a man who doesn't care whether a fragrance was designed with females in mind, and can carry the weighty aroma of intense, creamy, deep florals with not only confidence but joy, then you must buy this immediately! I did after purchasing the current version of Joop Homme, only to be completely let down by its diluted, watery nothingness. Joop Femme is (now at least) far superior to its pink cousin (or should that be brother?) it has real power. My partner described it as smelling like 'dusty old books' and I totally see where that comparison comes from. This is indeed a fragrance reminiscent of faded, aged paper, old varnished wood and musky, powdery florals. Like taking a breath from a lily in bloom, this is deep and intense, dark and almost gothic in its mood, redolent yellow flowers in a country garden on a heady Summer's evening. The florals here are not delicate, but thickly honeyed and intoxicatingly strong, which is probably why this can come off as suitably masculine in character. This reminds me of what a Guerlain fragrance might have smelled like at the time of release; powerful and unapologetic, strangely unisex and a little 'dirty' round the edges. I wear this A LOT not so much out, but at home, after work and when changed for relaxing for the evening, or even before bed, there is something captivating and unique about Joop Femme that is just too addictive. A cheapie that smells anything but cheap and is simply a wonderful composition.

Joop femme is an exquisite masterpiece of perfumer's art that you don't often see today unless you are mortgaging your house to afford one of the better niche perfumes. I remember trying on a sample of this when I was a little girl and sniffing my wrist as I ate dinner ( this delicious Sicilian spaghetti dish my mom made that had a gravy like sauce that chicken was cooked in for it, one of my faves) I can see it like it was yesterday. Mesmerized by the scent and picturing a grown up girl all chic in a short hounds tooth skirt suit and chunky black patent heels and thinking she represented that type of scent. Hey it was the late 90's lol . As an adult I saw the opportunity to finally own a bottle of this on fragrancenet and I snatched it up. I am wearing it today as we speak and still mesmerized by it. It is complex and goes through several interesting moods as it dries down. Amazing. I love how the patchouli sneaks out at some point and then melts into a warm, spicy almost incense quality reminiscent of Nag Champa which I love and have had body products made by the brand. Joop Femme is very very sexy, sophisticated, intriguing, bold and yet soft and wearable enough to not overwhelm anyone unless you over spray. It lasts long on me and projects fairly well and one of the few I can actually smell on myself gently wafting up from my neck and decollete throughout the day. Just gorgeous.

I can not explain how stunning this is. This is the holy grail of drug store scents. Somehow it reminds me of Ciara, Charlie, Bijan, Tabu... all rolled into one. Poison and Red Door vibes as well. Inexplicably beautiful kitchen sink of notes that claw and fight and then embrace each other in the most passionate way. I bought a sealed box EDT bottle from the 90s and as soon as I sprayed it I was transported back to some gauzy, warm nostalgia of summertime in the California desert when I was little. I grew up around strong Jewish women who smoked cigarettes and loved incense, the occult, animals, and loud perfume - be it drug store or department store. It makes me think of being with my mom, my aunt, and grandma, sitting in polyester furniture living rooms with crystals hanging from the windows and the sun throwing prisms through cigarette and incense smoke as the Mojave wind whips through the house. Big mutt dogs barking and wrestling outside, cats slinking around inside. Listening to their uniquely sardonic Jewish way of telling stories and the way they all laughed loudly and were savagely intelligent women who always said exactly what was on their mind and always did exactly what they wanted to do. Joop is all of these things. And to think I avoided it for so long because I thought the name was silly...

Joop Femme is pure 80s magic. One of these perfumes that can really carry you through the day and shield you from the world's rigors. Shame on me I discovered this wonderful fragrance only last autumn. But it became my favourite immediately and now I can't stop wearing it. To be true I wanna bathe in it! Think of warm and bright yellow honey with vanilla and heady flowers, spiced with some koriander and a soft little civet paw, just enough to give it depth and make it even smoother. The base purrs vanilla powderish, slightly sweet and reminds me a bit of roasted hazelnuts though it's actually the sandalwood that does the trick. It's so comfy but also sexy, just heavenly sumptuous and lush. A real treat. I have to be careful not to overdose it for it's pretty strong but my nose gets used to it so fast since I'm literally inhaling this. I suppose it was even stronger in the 80s but I'm absolutely fine with what I have. (My bottles are from 2012 according to batch code.) I never stocked up on a fragrance so quickly but in this case I had to get three 100ml bottles already to feel save. But I guess I need even more. We all know by now they ruin everything sooner or later and I never want to run out of this or suffer any shortage of it. Thank god it's also very affordable.

I recently sampled Creed's Jasmine Imperatrice Eugenie, and loved it right away - until I saw the price! Reading on here I saw that around 20 people had agreed that it smelled like this Joop Femme. I thought it was worth a try, seeing as this can be bought for roughly 10% of the price of the Creed. I was lucky enough to drop on to a dirt cheap bottle on ebay, new without cellophane. It arrived today and I eagerly opened the box and sprayed onto my arm. The first 3 thoughts that struck me were: 1. God, that is nice, mmmm. 2. Wow, it does seem to smell very much like the JIE from Creed 3. How have I never come across this before, and how many other amazing things are hiding from me in plain sight? I realise this is not much of a review. I intend to do a proper full wear of this and also to do a side by side comparison with the Creed so I will try and report back with a better review then. In the meantime, anyone else who has tried the Creed JIE but been put off by price, this is well worth a try. In fact I would suggest it is worth a try regardless. First impressions of this are v good. Lovely feminine scent, seems to have moderate sillage though hard to say from just one arm, and it seemed to last well too. I will try to report back soon!

I'm usually into modern perfumes and Joop femme didn't look like something I'd like.I don't like dominant sandalwood(as in samsara forexample)and I'm afraid of animalic notes but when I received a 5mil decant of it as an extra in a swap,I was eager to try it.we don't know when we'll met an unexpected love,my experience with presley moments taught me that I'm capable of loving some animalic classics After testing couple of light,fresh and clean modern florals,Joop femme seemed like a joyful new experience for my nose.I could feel it's 80s vibe but not that I find it old or impossible to wear.aldehydes are there but not too much.on my skin it's a deliciously sweet,slightly spicy floralfruity dipped in honey-like amber.I can't say what are fruity notes here.they're ripe and appear lightly just to give a delightful vibe to jasmine and orange flower.it's delicious but totally different with modern gourmands.it has a balsamic-vanilla-woody,rich and deep deliciousness,mature and sexy.it becomes even better as time passes and dries down to a soft powdery scent of flowers,musk,amber,vanilla and woody notes It's also potent and wafts strongly while there's also a softness in it. Dear Joop femme welcome to my wishlist

First off, I love Nag Champa and the calming effect it has on me. It evokes an atmosphere of equanimity. I can also see how this perfume is compared to Nag Champa - the jasmine, sandalwood, amber, and spices etc. Yet, if you place them side by side, you can probably smell the difference: Nag Champa (to my nose) lacks orange blossoms, and is therefore less sweet and fruity. Nag Champa also does not have civet or any musky notes in it (for obvious reasons). I agree that this is a wonderful scent for its price range and is very affordable, especially if you're new to frag scene. And yet, a young lady or a newbie might not appreciate this perfume for what it is - a classic. It is very interesting how time plays tricks on us. On one hand, this would be a lovely perfume for a younger lady - early 20s to pull off, think Lily James as Donna Sheridan in Mama Mia, and at the same time, Meryl Streep as Donna Sheridan would also pull it off. Because of this, I would say that this scent is defined less as "age appropriate", but rather it would only suit certain types of personalities - the free spirited woman, i.e. hippies, yogi types who caught the wanderlust bug and refuses to be tied to one place, or one man.

I got a vintage light yellow juice in a bottle that says “mild deodorant natural spray.” It’s surprisingly lovely! I’ve had a lot of unsuccessful blind buys, but am finally starting to hone in on what works for me: the old-school floral/woody/amber style of perfume. Joop! Femme is undoubtedly powdery and vintage, but lighter on the aldehydes with more of a vague, palatable white floral than a strong, green indolic one. It feels like it's emulating Chanel No. 5, but oddly benefits from being unlike it at all. The screeching offensive facets of ylang and rose are buffed out, leaving a faintly woody lavender, with smokiness reminiscent of incense. While I’m not familiar with Nag Champa, this does have a strong patchouli-tinted “Indian jasmine” feel. Its sourness calls back to the dry-cleaning shop near my house, which always smells strongly of incense mingled with solvents and mineral spirits. Like its Homme counterpart, Joop! Femme is quite chemical, but without the nuclear longevity that usually entails. It fades within an hour or two. Still, I am glad to have it on my shelf for casual days or relaxing at home.

Joop Femme is a rare jewel. Despite its age, she never stops surprising you with its sophisticated, über feminine, rich elegance and grace. I have kept a small bottle from 15 years ago, a treasure, and every time I release its cap something magic permeates the air. One spritz, and you become the Queen of fairies, the beauty of beauties, the total enchantress compelling the whole world, all worlds to swirl around you. All suddenly gravitates around you, like her soft embrace. Never a scent captured in same manner the imaginary of all sexes - its allure is just irresistible, intriguingly comforting. Compliments getter, this scent comes from fairy tales, and the spell it is capable to cast is an ever lasting one. Huge sillage, incredible projection - without suffocating people around - and a longevity many houses should study upon! But let me warn you - she chooses you, you won't have a say in that. Chemistry here is key to the magic - she'll work wonders on rather dry and cold skin (alike mine), but would throw a nasty curveball on many. Absolute LOVE for me, forever more.

All the previous reviewers who referenced the Nag Champa note convinced me to grab one and smell for myself. I was not disappointed―it does smell like a real, unlit stick of head-shop incense, a note it shares in common with Tabu, which I also love. This is a very comfortable fragrance for me to wear. It melts nicely into my skin. The notes are blended pretty seamlessly but I do smell more vanilla than one would expect, given the votes in the pyramid, and I also catch whiffs of civet, some aldehydes and white flowers (can't identify which ones). I can't identity any other notes. I'm a librarian and I doused myself pretty well before leaving for work this morning, and I enjoyed a gentle glow of sweet, floral, musky, powdery, incensey, softness around me throughout the day. No one seemed to notice. I had a short workday today, so I still smelled nice when I arrived back home about 6 hrs later. If I would've worked the whole day, I'd've definitely brought my bottle along and refreshed halfway through the day.

I love Joop! Ever since I was a teen and I remember this scent drawing me into many a bad boy, but I found often I would love the smell more than the boys. This is much the same as Joop! Homme, but there's more of an Indian insence feel to it. It's a little dirty, very soapy, and talcumy. It's creamy, spicy, citrusy. It's authoritive. This is a perfume for the unisex scent lovers, the boss', bold, and the loud. It's a scent that demands you pay attention to the small details. The deep incense wafts are very calming and reassuring. If it were a person, it would be kind, open minded, eccentric, spiritual, and ambitious. A person who knows what they want, gets what they want, but doesn't hurt others to get there; a person that will share and raise you up with them. It's a well balanced scent, and I don't find the aldehydes very strong to the point of smelling cheap, at all. It gives off a niche perfume house vibe more than a shopmade scent.

Just got this and trying it out today. I was prepared that it was likely to be strong at first, and it was indeed strong, especially for the afternoon when I put it on, sweet, bordering on cloying. Fast forward after hours elapsed (was too busy to really monitor it), yes it is a really nice scent, for me the vanilla is prominent, a deep vanilla with other notes, jasmine, other florals, sandalwood. So far does seem to me more suitable for nighttime and maybe special occasions. --------------------- Update: second wearing. Still starts out strong but it settled down pretty well. I think I can probably wear this in the daytime also. I like the incense note, reminded me a little of Ciara but this smokiness is prettier. --------- Update #2: I'm continuing to appreciate this - I think the coriander really adds a nice spicy/aromatic note that I'm drawn to, and there's a grounding somewhat bitter complexity, probably the civet and oakmoss.

I tested this at the same time as Gloria Vanderbilt, and they were similar in impact, but Femme feels more spicy and while GV becomes sort of okay closer to the finish line, Femme refused to show me any redeeming qualities. I don’t recognise anything fruity, floral or citrusy. Nothing pleasant at any stage. It was tested on paper, but given how uniformly unappealing it was, I’m not willing to persevere with further testing even for the sake of fairness. This Femme seems to have plenty of admirers to need me. But potential blind buyers might benefit from another word of caution. To me, Femme seems to fit the oriental spicy profile even though the pyramid only lists one nominal spice (coriander) and is classified as ‘floral woody’. I appreciate very much other creations by Michel Almairac I’m familiar with (Body, Body Tender, Zen, Chloe EDP, and Weekend for Men), but I have no understanding whatsoever for this Femme and her ilk.

I wanted this perfume so very much 30 years ago, I went to smell it as often as possible, but, I never could afford to buy it, but than I bought it a year ago, and it still smells so very good on my skin, I absolutely love it!! This perfume also remind me of the past, we had so much fun back than, we were young and beautiful, and we had hopes and dreams for the future to come, and also we had a lot of nice perfumes to choose from. Joop! femme is for me, all the other perfumes in one bottle, it reminds me of Youth Dew, Knowing, Roma, Dune, and my much beloved Desirade, wow and wow =)) I my nose, I can smell the coriander very strongly, and than the fruits, a little bit sour, and something is slightly iching in my nose, what it is, I cannot detect. -Nevermind, it smell sooo goood, and I loooove this great perfume so very much!

This is wonderful. I loved it way back when I was much younger than nowadays, and I still love it today. If I should ever be so lucky to walk down the aisle one more time, it will be with Joop Femme on me. She is so feminine, in a very sweet way. Not a femme fatale, not alluring, but still super enticing and romantic. She is not a love potion, but a frag you want to wear for a romantic stroll on a beach promenade in the night, lanterns lit and holding hands with the man you love. It puts my man in a "love to care for you" mood. You know, like someone lovingly wipes a strand of your hair out of your face before kissing you gently, or helps you into your jacket and then places a tender kiss onto your cheek. Somehow it evokes the care bear in the man I love, and that makes me love Joop Femme even more.
