JOOP! Homme Absolute

I must say that I am mystified by all the comments here saying that Joop Homme Absolute is very short lasting. I've had it on for around 14 and a half hours today, and it's still going strong on me - have very much enjoyed it - though now it smells more like Elizabeth Taylor's Passion for Men, as it's pretty much just the vanilla that is left emanating. But then again, I've complained about barely getting two hours out of Eau Sauvage, where others say they get 24 hours out of it. So this sort of extreme variability of performance on different skin types does happen. The solution - before buying spray some of Absolute on the back of your hand. If It's still there with strength after three hours, you can consider purchasing it. If instead it's totally gone from the back of your hand, this is probably not the scent for you. Regards.

In terms of scent, this is absolutely one of my favourite out there. I have approx 400 bottles in my collection and as a smell, it is bloody gorgeous! Yes, it’s light, quite intimate and smells like an autumn / winter player but, I tried this on a holiday to warmer climes in the far East and it totally worked! The heat amps this up in mega fashion on my skin. So, all I can say is, if you’ve been let down by its performance at all, try it in hotter weather, especially if you do actually enjoy how it smells. I could still whiff this at the going down of the sun! I’m not sure if it was intended to be like this but it works really well in heat. Now I wish they would do an amped up version that worked well in cooler months. Love this stuff!

I went in to buy the pink Joop, I know it has a lot of mixed reviews, but I felt like a bit of a fun scent. I have a fairly large collection, about 40 EDTs, with a variety of scents, mainly stuff from the 90s. I bought Safari the same say I bought this Joop Absolute. I'm happy with the Joop. It is fun and adventurous, it has that sweet oriental scent of the Pink Joop, and then that spicy peppery top note people are talking about. It smells divine. I'm not sure about silage and how long each application lasts, still only applied it twice, but it feels average in that regard. It has all the sweet fun I wanted from the pink stuff, but so much sophistication due to the mature pepper note. Love this and so glad I bought it.

I find it suitable to any occasion, always and in any combination. I feel safe with it. But you got to like incense. It's not a scent that I felt in blind love straight away, it was more like I liked it a lot since first day, then I realised I like it more and always, to the point after 3 months I found out there is nothing better on my shelve. Other fragrances preferences come and go, while this ones' liking stay still and climbed it's way to the top, to be my favourite scent. It has a quite strong sillage to my taste. It's lasting is no more than moderate. I think it's cheap for a value.

Very dark and mysterious, not for everyone, smells like a roughly done or an incomplete niche fragrance. I guess it's a good thing in a way for people like me who like to enjoy notes like incense and black pepper, but don't want it to scream at everyone and rather enjoy it closely and softly. The combination of ylang ylang and incense play really well together, making it an enjoyable and easily wearable dark fragrance. I personally think it smells like something a hero of a horror thriller would wear. Maybe Witcher..

I'll preface this review with the fact that I like gourmands and I light incense around my house on the daily. That said: Imagine the specks in vanilla bean paste aren't actually ground up vanilla pods, but black peppercorns. Now use that to make a crispy bananas foster and you've got yourself Joop! Homme Absolute. It's a shame this fragrance doesn't last longer than a handful of hours because it's a delight. Oh, waiter...! (Francisco Lachowski turns around) I'll have another black pepper custard, please!

Very nice, soft and smooth scent. I dont know why but it reminds me of the scent of banana-milk drink. Scent last at least 6 hous on me with moderate projection for the first hour n half then it sits closer to skin. For edp i expected a bit more potent scent trail but it is what it is. Its perfect for a date or a dinner because its not overpovering and that makes it more mysterious for the opposite sex to come closer to you to get more...all in all very nice release from Joop.

starts off with spicy/dry tonka type notes, not so much of a sweet tonka, add into that a spicy black pepper which lasts through the phases, it then dries down into a spicy/peppery vetiver scent with a slight touch of ylang ylang in there too. As other's have said its not a projection beast but it does last pretty reasonable, id say 6-7hrs for me. overall id say this is a 9/10 for Joop, as far as im concerned this is the best release from joop since Joop Homme.

The top black pepper note brought a memory of Gucci Homme tragically discontinued. It’s elegant, warm and soft. One of the greatest discoveries of 2021 for me thus far. The heavy bottle paying homage to its predecessor, the beautiful and unique Joop Homme, is just another reason why this is my happy blind purchase! I’d definitely wear it in cooler weather, to work or an evening date/dinner. A must have for every collector! 8/10

I first smelled this as a tester in Superdrug...It is a black pepper/tonka heaven!!! A mix between Comme Des Garsons Blackpepper and Pacco Rabanne Pure XS. The smell from the tester in SUPERDRUG smelt divine all day... I felt like making love to my hand... so I ordered it the same evening through Amazon. All good except performance. Scent: 10/10 Bottle: 6/10 Performance: 1/10 Value for money 2/10 Cry boy cry ...

When applied opulently the opening of this is a dream. I get a peppery, kinda tobaccoey vibe, but a beautiful, beautiful opening, kinda unique as well, at least to my nose. The dry down is meh, just a gummy wood feel to me. Have yet to test longevity, not an optimist though. Edit: that gummy, rubbery thing is definitely incense. So I'm getting strong pepper, incense, vetiver vibes. Lovely.

Looks and reminds me of encre Noir by lalique, looks dark indeed, sexy with the ylang. A spicy, woody, smokey fragrance, definitely masculine, but with all Joop's they tend to become sweet. Maybe sweet incense with banana ylang and chocolaty vetiver, and cinnamony pepper, they can all turn sweet, so best try before you buy.

Im amazed how good this fragrance smells. It would be even better if performed just a little bit more but all in all a true winner. For me it is best suited for romantic dinner and night time wear altough it could be worn in pretty much any occasion because it is not cloying fragrance. My signature evening scent :)

This is such an excellent fragrance and it smells very good and it's fairly unique. Longevity and projection are good above average I'd say and I rate this an 8.5 out of 10 all round. There is nothing to dislike about this scent and a recommendation goes without saying. A big thumbs up from me!!!

A gorgeous fragrance but terrible, terrible performance! So poor that after two minutes it lay flat as a skin scent and was barely there. Maybe explains why 120ml EDP was obtained for only £34.00...... I’ll be using it frequently throughout the work day....

I underestimated the strenght of this perfume. I always thought it is more of a skin scent but recent positive feedback from coworkers and my girfriends words "entire house smells of you, which one is that?" dismiss my previous opinion on this fragrance.

I always associate this house as one for fun fragrances, this one is the adult in the room. Incense, ylang ylang, a classy looking bottle, am loving the new Joop fragrance. Smells great, longevity was ok.

This one is more mass appealing version of Bentley for Men Absolut! More sweet but Lee’s complex that Bentley but is great to me? Also remains me Azzaro Visit a little bit!

I tried it this morning at 8:30, now its 16:15 and i can still detect it on my arm. It is very pleasent inofensive scent. I like it quite a lot. Its my next pick for sure.

Wow. Just wow. Pure incense-ylang-tonka heaven in a bottle. It could be a bit stronger but i forgive this one because to me it just smell divine.

Homme Absolute, I actually find it to be one of the most intriguing and refined scents in the Joop! Homme line. While the original is bold and intensely sweet, which can be overwhelming, especially in warmer months, this flanker takes a more elegant, modern direction. The opening is striking — a burst of black pepper that quickly mellows into a warm floral-woody heart. The inclusion of ylang-ylang is particularly noteworthy; it's an unconventional choice in mainstream men's fragrances, lending a creamy (some here call it a "banana"), slightly exotic floralcy that harmonizes beautifully with the underlying woody notes. As the fragrance evolves, the interplay between the floral sweetness and the woodiness creates a nuanced and sophisticated scent profile. Very peppery opening that gradually tones down with banana, tonka and light incense smells. It’s like eating a banana dessert in a room with incense burning in the corners. Quite pleasant and unusual to my nose. On my skin this scent maintains a banana/incense/peppery smell which mixes well for me. It doesn’t really have a lot of changing layers to it. It is moderate lasting for me and needs a top up spray after 4-5 hours and during this time it projects quite well. This is less sweet than other Joop fragrances. I like this scent as it smells a bit different to other scents I have and it’s got a playful and fun aspect to it. I would suggest that this is not a “blind” buy, as the pepper and incense notes might not appeal to some people.

This is an unexpected beauty from Joop. Joop Homme Absolute (JHA) is a very pepper-spicy, woody scent. The spicy woodiness originates from a combination of black pepper, incense, & tonka beans. It's exactly how you imagine that combination would smell. The incense in it reminds me of that of Zirh Ikon but I personally prefer Ikon over JHA. Per the sample vial card that I got, it says it's made of black pepper, vetiver, & ylang ylang. No mention of incense nor tonka beans but these box description are known to be unreliable & are aimed at marketing the fragrance than actually describing how it smells. It's warm & mature, unlike any Joop I've ever smelled. A nice one from Joop & has a good performance. Big like!

Joop Homme Absolute..... it is a very unique fragrance which Antoine Maisondieu has created for Joop / Coty. I do not understand why ppl criticize Coty for apparently creating a "typical" chemical mess when.... 1. Coty didn't create it, they approved it and... 2. these critics are happy to add it to their collection...oh well... It is a warm smoky scent and quite unique. The combination of incense and ylang ylang works well. The pepper adds sharpness and the Tonka some mellow creamy sweetness to it. On my skin it lasts very long which is odd because usually my skin absorbs fragrances like a sponge. Overall a very good fragrance.

Joop Absolute is a black pepper forward fragrance. The spice melding with the vanilla does create a unique gourmand accord in the drydown that reminds me of a spiced breakfast muffin. But the whole scent experience always smells the color black to me. Very clearly made for men to wear on dates. I don’t get the incense as much, more so the sweet spices. Edit: after spending more time with it I’m finding it to be a weaker, inferior alternative to Spicebomb EDT or Spicebomb Extreme. I’d pick one of those instead but I still like this. It is just redundant to own both. 8.0/10

Only tested on paper so far: starts with a very pleasant blast of spicy pepper. But neither the spicy pepper of spicebomb nor the sweet pepper of Stronger With You. No, this pepper is reminiscent of Creed Viking. It feels bold and adventurous. But unlike Viking it is gently warm due to the subtle creamy vanilla tonka bean note rather than cool and would probably work best in dull spring and autumn rather than either cold or hot weather. Smells nothing like Joop. More office playboy than night club playboy. Think - Joop's more serious adopted brother.

Decent perfume , the opening reminds me of Marc Jacobs bang and comes de garçon black pepper . Dry down you get a soapy/ylang-ylang kind of smell which is kinda unique I guess. Performance is moderate on my skin , I got more when I sprayed it on clothes. I would say 4 hours people can still smell you , if they are near (2 meters ) / in make room. After that it's skin scent. In terms of weather , this is cold weather perfume and a very masculine perfume, I like it. Scent : 7/10 Unique : 6/10 Longevity:7/10 Sillage: 6/10 Versatility:5/10

The smell was okay. Kind of unique, quite a pleasant, light scent. Not related to Joop Homme in any way whatsoever. However, I can't really describe it more than that because IT WAS SO WEAK. Weakest I've ever tried along with Karl Lagerfield Bois De Yuzu. I could barely detect it even after initially spraying it and it was gone within an hour, leaving just a tiny hint on the skin that there was something sprayed there. Another problem is the completely opaque bottle. A like but took me 1 spray to decide to sell it.

Not a bad release from Joop, the scent is great, it’s a smoky vanilla that reminds me a little of YSL Opium. What let’s it down is the terrible performance and projection, it becomes a skin scent after about 30 minutes and has completely disappeared after about an hour, it doesn’t seem to project very well either. I’m not used to this from the house of Joop, their scents are usually such powerhouses, and if this were a better performer I’d absolutely love it. Scent 8/10 Performance 3/10 It’s a mixed bag this one.

A brilliantly simple and well executed male scent. The axis of black pepper, ylang-ylang and incense is what this is all about, with an emphasis on the incense. Projects politely for about two hours before it retires to skin scent status. Lasts reasonably, but suffers in warm weather - losing much of its potency within a couple of hours. Fine for evenings. Works in mixed company.

After first spray, without thinking about it, the first thing that popped in my head was Prada Luna Rossa EXTREME. This just not as sharp and bright. It seems a little more dank and flat, not that it's a bad thing, just an abservation. It's a solid Like - with a bullet!

@Diddleydaddy6901234, FYI, Ylang-Ylang note is a rich, floral, sweet note with a nuance of banana, woody, dirty, sour nuances. If you can’t smell this obvious middle note in this fragrance, then it appears that your nose is dislocated, and not mine, as you state. 🍌🍌🍌

I get very strong incense and ylang ylang. Think it's quite unique and different. But not very versatile. I wear this mostly for myself or winter upscale events. Performance is pretty good on my skin. I get about 6 hours of moderate projection.

Big black pepper punches at the opening, has the underlying incense coming through. Reminds me of the Babycat opening with the This is Him drydown. Lasted a few hours on my skin, I'll let the bottle sit for awhile and come back to it.

This is a fragrance that i think smells amazing and unique...I have over 50 fragrances and NONE of them smell like this one. Yes performance is on the poor side but for the price you can pick this up for, you really can't complain👌🏿

I've had this in the cupboard for a while now and just got it out again after 2 years I think. It seems nicer now and has grown on me. A nice smoky incense. Gone a bit sweeter too. Trouble is, I think it's too weak.

Smokey banana dessert. It's quite unique and not expensive. Not something i wear everyday but sometimes my nose want something interesting and then i pick this up.

A smoky/vetiver perfume. It's quite nice and if you spray it under your clothes, it lasts a while and gives off a good silage. Wouldn't buy again but it's nice.

Refreshing to smell this release amongst all the “modern” fragrances coming our currently. Dark, seductive and mature without going over the top. Great release.

As someone said before me,a very depressing scent.It has a very bad mix of tonka and ylang that lingers for long,very obnoxious.Poor sillage(at least!).
