Unspoken Gesture

I've been wearing Unspoken Gesture everyday for a week now and at this time, I can say that my quest for the perfect "your skin but better" type of fragrance is over Before getting into the experience of wearing it - reading the other reviews - I want to point out that I had a very different experience with it in a decant than from the full bottle. When I first tested it from a decant, the cardamom was way too sharp and overpowering and I wasn't getting the fig. It was still good enough though and when I sprayed it from the bottle, I had the full picture and it was marvelous The best way I can describe wearing it - and of course, as always, this is subjective and skin chemistry dependant - is like if the natural smell of your skin was amped up, you just got out of an almond-fig milk bath and you sprayed the perfect amount of a white musk/ambrox(and derivatives)/Iso E Super base layer Performance as far as longevity is through the roof, never overpowering and constant and this is with one single spray I can't really speak about projection as I'm working from home most of the time but although it seems to be projecting to a certain degree, I have the feeling that it's not the type of fragrance that would either turn heads or annoy - In the sense that it seems so human-like that people wouldn't think you're wearing a fragrance and also, I'm under the impression that it's not a smell - even if I encountered it on someone else - that would wow me as a fragrance but would be magical in a close encounter being under the impression that the person is naturally smelling this good What I would recommend is apply one single spray on your chest, wait for about 10-15 minutes before putting your shirt/top on and then go about your day - From one hour on after applying it and for the rest of your day, you'll have the best experience in my opinion Finally, everytime I'm thinking wearing any other of my fragrances just to switch things up and smell the nozzle, although each of them smell good, I go back to Unspoken Gesture

I have to admit, I blind bought this one. Why? Because Jorum have never dissapointed me; I simply love the Scottish Odyssey series, and whenever I see fig it is a must try for me. I could've bought a sample but I guess I never got to it before I found 'Unspoken Gesture' on sale after having it on my must-try-list for some months too many... And there it was in my basket and eventually in my mail box, and now proudly displayed amongst my (maybe too many) bottles of perfume. Fortunately I ended up being happy with my blind buy. The fig is initally really prominent and very clean smelling, and the nuttiness is really showing up, but in a really comforting and cozy way! The cardamom is there but it is never overpowering like I usually smell cardamom. The top notes are mixing together beutifully on my skin and even though sweet is the number two main accord? It is not really sweet at all? It is way more powdery and warm, nutty and velvety, and even lactonic in that smooth thick way. The drydown does not really add anything groundbreaking. It is still the same, just a tad less intense. The ylang is trying to peek at you from faaaaar over there, but I cannot really grasp it, it is hiding far behind the figgy nuts and the wet rice has mixed itself up in the dry hay making a sticky barricade that the ylang can never even dream about penetrating. Still, I have to say that I really like the complexity you get from this. It is delicate, and in every sniff you notice something new, or another combination of notes have melted together. And even in that everything is still swaddled in that clean fig which now have combined itself perfectly with the musk and ambrette. I have to say, I love this take on a "savoury gourmand" though, personally I do not get the gourmand aspect exept for the obvious nut and sesamy notes. And even though the fig, wood and cardamom could do this paper/office supply smell it is just a part of its uniqueness which I tend to enjoy. And enjoy it I do.

jorum studio how i love you! as soon as i sprayed this on my wrist - it was love at fist sniff. opens up with an impression of a delicious orange-flavored pastry, soon meekens, transforming into an intimate salty sweet piece of bread adorned with slices of orange peel which might or might not be on the verge of fermenting. it smells undeniably moldy, but remains gentle and tongue-in-cheek about it. cutting through it are woody, green aspects, warm and cold at the same time. unspoken gesture is frivolous and confident in its weirdness, yet calm and modest. the entire experience evokes the image of serendipidously meeting an eccentric older woman, she invites you to her cottage on the outskirts of the village and offers you rooibos tea and cookies, which she tells you she made herself with stuff she'd gathered from her garden. her house is cluttered and messy and smells a bit odd but she's undeniably an interesting individual, so you stay, chatting until it gets dark out so you go home, and you never see her again.

overwhelming chemical scent edit: I've done a complete 180 on this. I'm a novice fraghead and have only a handful of samples to try, not many which are winter appropriate (the season in which I'm writing this review). I found myself reaching for this over and over again just to try and figure out why I didn't like it.. so much that I've almost entirely come around. it's a bit peppery, sweet, and like everyone says, smells like fried rice. perfect for icy days outside when you need a bit of warmth on you.

Unspoken Gesture is a beautifully balanced warm, lightly floral, woody hug in a bottle. It’s the perfume I’ve been looking for. It smells feminine but not “girly”, it’s floral but not the heavy blossom/jasmine/rose floral, it’s figgy but not sharp green, and it’s creamy but not sugary. I truly adore this perfume. The scent bubble is modest, and it lasts for weeks on my clothes. With Christmas around the corner, I’m hopeful my husband will take my wild enthusiasm for this perfume as a sign!

I saw this one recommended on Reddit and the notes sounded so unique I had to get a decant! I think I love it, but am still wrapping my head around what’s going on here? I got two stranger compliments the first time I wore it though, which is never a bad thing. The fig and nut combo, amongst other notes, is very different. I want to try it side-by-side with Yesterday Haze by Imaginary Authors as I feel there are some similarities with the “vintage” fig feel.

Ok so wear this on one wrist and ELDO’s Fils De Dieu on the other. The Jorum will last longer but you’ll have a comprehensive rice scent moving into the day. Wanting to smell like rice was never on my bucket list but here I am, craving more and more rice scents. I enjoy this because it’s not just rice. It’s many scents that evolve and then drop off and lead you another way. Fun, elegant and different.

just got this scent delivered to me today and WOW!!! it’s absolutely beautiful. it has all of my favorite notes in one (fig, rice, sandalwood, cardamom). it’s boozy and beautiful, balanced by the rice and fresh green. this may be too masculine for some, but i could see this as unisex scent. a blind buy, but totally worth it. cannot wait to try more from this house. 10/10 and personal favorite

This is like nothing I have ever come across before and not something I would usually gravitate to. On paper I should hate it, but the fragrances scratches my brain in a way that makes me feel all fuzzy and cozy. I love this, so so much.

I don't get a lot of fruit and wood, but I do think this is the rice-hay fragrance of my dreams. Everything I wanted L'eau papier to be. Cardamom plays support. The dry down is a light musky skin-scent.

10 minutes after putting this on my arm I ordered a bottle. Blends with your natural skin chemistry to create something beautiful, subtle, and smooth.

You know that warming, starchy, sticky scent that your rice cooker emits when it's just about finished preparing some jasmine rice? That's very prominent here. That cooked rice scent is combined with some nutty facets -- a fatty, waxy kind of smell, not dissimilar to a raw almond. There's also a noticeable ambrette musk and many other layers of soft n' cozy things going on. A hint of fruity fig weaves itself in and out of the composition in a way that almost mimics a tea scent. The comforting qualities of this fragrance are like an olfactory fuzzy blanket. A weird blanket with an off-kilter pattern on it, but a cozy one nonetheless. I like it!

Before looking at the notes I thought I could detect sesame and rice. The nuttiness from almond and moreso the hazlenut is presenting to me as a sesame note. In the dry down you get more of a fresh spiciness from cardamom. Unspoken Gesture presents as the punchier and slightly more gourmand older cousin to Diptyque's l'Eau Papier. It is distinctly nutty and also reminiscent of Tonka Sesame by EPC. If you like either of those there is a high chance you will enjoy this. I find it enjoyable and despite my comparisons, quite unique!

I smelled this and put it on at a fragrance store here in Brooklyn. The smell is beautiful, insanely unique, bittersweet, and after a while left me feeling quite sad. Like a forgotten memory of fearfully burying my face in my stuffed animals as a child, breathing in the fur, waiting for an evening thunderstorm to pass outside. Like a closet filled with clothes, linens, and toys that I open in a dream, a distant smell of mom cooking dinner in the other room. I like it.

chewy, lemongrass-y, nutty basmati. the rice note fades, and leaves a fragrant, floral, savoury, citric-sharp concoction in its wake. i can smell the ylang. it is quite pretty on my boyfriend, but when i'm wearing it, i constantly get caught off guard by the scent.

This is an interesting scent. It smells like dinner. Cardamon and rice. Maybe a little malt, hay, mimosa and musk. Keep in mind there’s nothing at all sweet about this fragrance. You’d think the ylang-ylang would add that but not at all. Unisex.

I think this perfume succeeds almost *too* well in its stated ambition to capture “a comforting embrace in scent.” It’s meltingly soft and delicate, tenderly intimate. You might expect it to be powdery, but it’s really fresh and alive (partly via the fig and violet leaf), like sniffing a baby’s scalp or nuzzling your girlfriend’s armpit after she’s just stepped out of the shower and covered herself in lotion. It’s *emotionally* sweet rather than overtly sugary, but the subtle gourmand flavours of cardamom, hazelnut, almond, and rice combine with the creamy-skin feeling in a way that starts to border on nauseating—imagine slicing into a marzipan cake hyperrealistically shaped like a human infant. In part, I think it’s because the scent is too potent: it’s an extrait and I think I’d prefer it as an EDP or even an EDT. It also has a malty, slightly boozy heart note that causes it to actually become *sharper* after the first hour instead of mellower. It’s being billed (and described by users) as a skin scent, but for me, it projects pretty strongly and lasts like crazy. After about six hours, I’d say it finally calms down enough to start feeling comforting and cozy (musky mimosa sandalwood) in the way that I expected. Overall, a unique and interesting scent (as I’d expect from Jorum) but definitely not for me.

Unspoken Gesture opens with fuzzy white musks and what I initially thought was a buttered popcorn note, but soon resolves into hazelnut. It's an unsweet hazelnut note, over lots of synthetic musks. Clean, fuzzy, radiant, and resolutely beige. Do we like this? I'm not sure. It's not unpleasant; it's very neutral; but I wouldn't say it's beautiful. A little nutty, a little bready, a little cleaning-product-y. A very similar beige abstract modern vibe to Fantosmia, except Unspoken Gesture has a more legible hazelnut note, while Fantosmia is more about peppery pale woods.

Wore this when I first got it and did not like it. Knew what I was getting into with the polarizing reviews. Anyways. The day I sent this off to someone else so happened to be the one day I wore it outside of my house and I got tons of compliments on it. I wish I could smell what others are smelling but to me this literally smells like a greasy frying pan :/ Do not under any circumstances blind buy this.

I love the opening of this fragrance, with it's soft warm notes of fig, cardamom and rice. But after about 20 minutes it turned into a very strong and somewhat nauseating straight cardamom and lost all the other notes that made it so lovely. It's better if you layer something sweet or floral on top, which for me was Morph Gate 17, which has notes of honey and florals.

The first few seconds were overwhelmingly almond cookie to me, not bad but not remarkable however twenty seconds in it becomes sooooo unique and beautiful. I was excited by the notes in this -- I love cardamom and fig -- however upon first spray I could not stand this scent. The cardamom was almost tannic, left my nose feeling dry. After it settled, I started to smell more vanilla and amber, but this just doesn't work on me -- headache inducing.

There are elements in this that I love. But it's like "too much of a good thing", it lacks balance to me. It's an interesting scent but not something I want to smell like and keep smelling through the day.

This started off beautiful and ricy but became salty and extremly sour liek spoiled milk on my skin, whic typically wears lactonics well. Overall: 4/10

in the bottle, i didn't get much more than straightforward rice. after spraying on skin i find more nuance, but it's simply not for me. too sweet for me, although it's not very sweet comparative to gourmands generally. synthesized caramelized breads? with an incongruent flower alongside? not a composition that makes sense to me, but maybe it makes sense to you. i wanted more hay and ylang-ylang from this, something grounding, but i can't get past the sweetness. also, i was shocked to find online that this is an extrait. i would not have guessed, to me it doesn't have that kind of strength or staying power.

I wish I loved this because it smells very unique and has an incredible, smooth-and-starchy opening. Unfortunately, once the opening fades, it gets astringent and a tad unpleasant on me. My guess is that it's dry and green notes mixing in a way that just doesn't work for me. By no means bad, but alas, not a full bottle purchase for me.

This smells like cardboard, packing peanuts, and laminated paper. Basically this smells like the inside of an Office Depot.

I had high hopes when I smelled the atomizer before spraying, I thought a ricey, grainy version of Philosykos, what could go wrong? It went very, very WRONG. A cardamom overdose, moldy grains, and for some reason just....ONIONS AND ARMPIT. I am a big fan of this house and have 4 other frags but this is...I begged for luckyscent to take it back. I had received a lovely mimosa and spices sample from a local shop but this went atomic mothballs in person. I gagged so hard and tried to scratch it out of my brain. If this works for you, kudos, but BUYER BEWARE.

so, the notes promised heaven. utterly up my alley. what i actually get? a noseful of reheated rice swimming in fryer grease from last julember. and let’s not forget the astringent screechy note of wicker chair soaked in p*ss. clearly, plenty of folks love it but my nose is at war with it. and it drives me mad, because I want to smell the delectibleness everyone else is huffing in.

I sooo wanted to like this...I purchased a 5ml sample size from Scent Split & I how I WISH I got the 1ml smallest sample...ughh! I am getting a chemical/cleaning supply weird scent...this smells nothing like the notes listed...BIG LET DOWN...clearly I can’t always get a winner. I definitely will NOT blind buy a 5ml sample ever again!

Ok this one makes me think of going to the mall with my parents back in middle school. It’s generic men’s cologne smell mixed with the fried/savory food we’d eat at this one restaurant. I usually love nutty/rice/savory scents but this one is a big miss for me

i wanted to like this SO BAD but there’s something in it that makes it smell starchy like rotten vegetables :( points for the cute bottle though!

Not sure about this, although I do love the notes that are listed, and the opening fig-and-cardamom effect is very cosy. I think it's maybe a perfume that takes quite a lot of wearing to make sense and become fully perceptible, and I'll have to keep testing for a while. There's a bready or malty aspect that sometimes flips into lotiony sweetness, which is unsettling but possibly ultimately compelling also. The far drydown is lovely, very creamy and delicate, long lasting too. More skin time needed. Not that it matters, but the name is a bit of a tautology: gestures do tend to be unspoken, almost by definition. In the scent description, also, there seems to be confusion about the meaning of 'preclude' - it means 'prevent from happening, make impossible' but seems to be used here as if it means something like a neologistic verb form of 'prelude', as in 'comes before'? Yikes, hair-splitting pedantry, soz...

This perfume reminds me of so many perfumes but it is completely unique. It is like violet musks (Florentia) rice perfumes Eau Papier) cereal perfumes (Jardin au Cythere) etc. but also totally unlike them too. I think it is the combination of notes that makes this stand out. It is what I wanted so many other perfumes to be but they didn’t quite make it- too sweet, too dry, too clean, etc. I can pick out all the notes here if I try. But the real stand out ones for me are rice, mimosa, violet, fig and hazelnut. It makes for a really beautiful and strange experience- greenish, powdery, flowery and slightly edible- like a really niche rice pudding (I don’t think mimosa is edible!) After a while, it becomes more woody. In fact it becomes mostly sandalwood and a soft fig. I think it works- at least for me. In fact I may grow to love it 😻

Unspoken gesture is a weird floral-musky scent; floral becuase the pollen of a mimosa plays in contrast to a predominanlty present rice note all sustained by an ambrette base with accentuated woody facets of American cedar. It starts off with a well executed cardamom and an interesting nutty profile. A hint of almond (not sweet, but bitter) imparts a certain creaminess. Suddenly, the rice note emerges and it is like to have in front of me a rice dish cooked in a Chinese restaurant; the vibe may be perceived as the same as in Caardus, but in the latter the overall effect is of a Chinese natural apothecary, while in the former is much more culinary. For the longest time I was trying to see why this was pinging a memory in my head that would not leave, I smelled and I smelled and I just could not place it..... Then, as I was walking and smelling my arm it hit me! Carillon pour un ange by Tauer Perfumes! It was discontinued but it left a mark on me when I got it as a sample and cried when it was used up. I gave up and thought well, that's that.... Until now! It's absolutely not a dupe, but it is close. Close enough that this is an immediate purchase. There's something mature, old , classy, mature and wise about this scent. Like bitter tasting greens thrown around with cardamon , spiced and white wilted flowers. Wonderful smell.

This is such a confusing scent. I really like it but there's also something in it that is slightly unpleasant and sharp? It's super nutty and soapy at the same time. Incredibly loud (which I consider a good thing if you enjoy the scent). Cardamom, hazelnut, hay and mimosa. It's very unique. Hazelnut in this is the only prominent note to it, and the rest just mix together into this very interesting earthy and fizzy scent. It's everything all at once and nothing from the pyramid at the same time. Not like anything I smelled before but Jorum fragrances are all very unique

Totally bizarre - nutty, sweet, starchy, fresh, lotion-y, and completely on its own path. When you look at the notes combo above, you think you're in for a relatively straightforward and comforting scent. In my opinion, the floral aspects that emerge really complicate the overall picture. There is an almost citric bite that feels fizzy, paired with a creamy, somewhat savoury woodiness. Do I want to wear this often or really at all? No. Do I think that Jorum Studio is one of the most artful and strongly conceptual houses out there? Definitely!

Every time I go through my samples I come to this one and think Ugh I need a bottle of that! Just this thick yummy nutty fig and hazelnut scent, sweet and savory. I get a bit of the violet leaf and hay as it settles down, both are dry in the best way. I love unique gourmands and this delivers in uniqueness! I personally wouldn’t recommend this as a “fig perfume” though. Very well blended and so so warm, feels like a big cozy sweater :)

Nutty, powdery, sweet, soft, and comforting, this fragrance reminds me of L'eau Papier without the overdone clean musk aspect. It is not as sweet as the fragrantica accords list implies - and it’s far more savory. This is a much more interesting take on the gourmand/savory rice fragrances that have been gaining popularity lately. Great winter scent!

Discordant, acrid, and gross perfume that can’t decide if it wants to be a screechy yellow floral or a savory/greasy rice gourmand. Tried to scrub it off and sad to report that despite sucking so badly it does indeed have lasting power and unfortunately strong sillage.

indulgent fleshy rice pudding!! a warm familiar hug from a past lover who you actually just want to kiss & you both know it, a very obvious secret, skin scent that’s bursting at the seams. cracking open a green cardamom pod spilling over with milky fig

This is lovely and comforting with soft cardamom. Reminds me a bit of Sora Dora red but there is a slight dimension of something almost aniseed or liquorice toned in there. Decent longevity and I feel like it’s a very confidently composed fragrance.

On me, this perfume becomes completely a beautiful green Cardamom. It is warm and comforting. It lasts a super long time. Like days if you get it on your clothes. It’s great for laying but also really nice on its own.

Nutty malty musky. Smells a little like buttered toast. Good longevity and sillage is respectful. I quite enjoy this, but like all Jorum fragrances, it’s not a designer one-size-fits-all fragrance.

Juicy, balmy (melted powder). Beautiful orris. Unfamiliar with the berries but they’re red-purple in your face. Herbaceous around the edges. Spicy..? Sillage zero on one spray. Old woman, teenager.

Beautiful almond sweet creamy fig opening. Seemed familiar. Lemon Tart perfume by Theodoros Kalotinis. Only the opening though. Then it changed and was more complex. I adore this fragrance.

Lovely, comforting smell and unique and different from anything else I own. Has a cotton ball texture that feels fluffy and safe.
