African Queen

Heres what people say to me when I wear this: "MMMM! You smell sooooo good!" - friend "omg! It smells like icecream in here!" - client "You smell so good... I can't tell what it is, all I know is that you smell good. I've smelt perfumes on other girls.. but this one is nice." - some man "You smell like candy!!" - client "It smells like fruitloops" - client lol (I don't think it smells like fruitloops but I get why he may think that, lemon, fruity, creamy.) 🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰🫰 To me, this smells like a creamy raspberry pink lemonade fruite-chew candy or rainbow sorbet. No almonds, no chocolate (maybe white chocolate instead of regular chocolate, because there is a creamy element to it), no distinguishable rose (but maybe thats what is making this lean kinda pink raspberry to me?), and no patchouli. Just sweet, creamy, and tart. Smells delicious. It's extremely comforting to me, since it reminds me of my childhood. The lemon to me is not a house cleaner smell (thank the perfume gods), its a tart bright candied lemon. It's unique and doesn't smell cheap, I don't own any perfume that smells like this. This is a fun scent, so I wouldn't call this mature. This perfume is on the lighter side. I do find myself reapplying through out the day, which I don't mind since I love the opening. If it were stronger or lingered longer that would be lovely too, but it could just be me going nose blind after a while. I love mixing this perfume with a vanilla perfume (like tihota by indult, choco musk by al-rehab, etc), it brings out more of the creaminess. So yummy and edible. I don't know why it's called African Queen, nor do think this really gives off an African Queen vibe since to me it smells like pink lemonade. I may not be African, but I am a queen, so I wear this perfume like a crown. Period lol. 👑 Anyway, I LOVE THIS PERFUME. 🩷🍋 🍬Gourmand candy girlies, you may want to give this one a sniff!

This one is a dark horse/black sheep, both for Jousset and for me. Firstly, I can't believe there's patchouli in this. I am normally super sensitive to patchouli and need to scrub anything patch based off of me, but African Queen is not doing that to me at all. I get a nice mild citrus and almond opening. It's not a Lira or Love and Crime, but in the same vein. A yummy gourmand citrus. The chocolate is there too. Secondly, the Jousset DNA is there but it's the least in-your-face offering I've smelt from the house. I wish Accident À La Vanille - Paradis Blanc was more subtle like African Queen. OG Accident À La Vanille and Le Gourmand are similarly too sweet for me to want to wear on the daily. I don't think the performance is that bad. If anything, I think the other Jousset are too potent. I should note that I'm not that fussed about performance as I like to either re-apply or wear something else in the same day. I'm seriously considering getting a full bottle as it's a really pleasant daily wear. I prefer this to Bianco Latte which makes me want to pass out.

When I first put this on, I got a burst of what smelled like raspberries before the chocolate and lemon notes kicked in. The patchouli, Tonka, and chocolate notes worked beautifully together to form a realistic milk chocolate accord. The only other scents where I’ve encountered chocolate like this are Angel Muse and Reminiscence’s Patchouli. The rose lends a light powdery accord that I felt complemented the lemon and chocolate nicely. What surprised me the most about this scent was its low sillage- it pretty much radiated about half an arm’s length away from me. Its longevity is pretty impressive, though at well over twelve hours!

Dang, this is so good. Lately I've been sampling a lot of fragrances where I love the drydown but have to tolerate the opening to get to it. African Queen is a nice change of pace as it is beautiful from the first second it hits your skin and stays beautiful the whole time. It reminds me of Indult Tihota--it's been a few years since I smelled that one, but this is what I remember it as. Even if they're not an exact match, I think they would be appreciated by the same people.

This is a LOVE at first sniff for me. One of my favourite almond scents. It is sweet and powerful. Has a very Notorious citric soul while the rose is present during most of the duration of the fragrance. It has a very good performance. Lasts forever and It is very easy-wearing perfume. I'll be honest, I was a little nervous after the terrible experience I had with Gourmand Bakhoor - instant scrubber, made me literally nauseous. But THIS is an instant love for me, from the first dab (I only have a small sample). It's extremely soft and smooth right from the outset, I'm not getting any alcohol or astringency from the lemon, it's just soft and sweet. A pretty, sugary rose note shows up as this starts to warm up on my skin, somewhere around the ten minute mark, and I know dark chocolate is listed but I'm actually getting more of a milk chocolate here - again, less sharp and dark and more light and sweet. If I close my eyes, it actually smells like I'm about to bite into one of my favorite milk chocolate and almond bars. Absolutely no idea how this will perform because it's hard to gauge off such a small sample, but even if this ends up being a skin scent, I think I'd be satisfied as the price point isn't terrible for a niche fragrance. Full bottle it is! ** Update ** This is probably going to upset some people, but this is exactly what I wanted Feve Delicieuse to smell like. Where Feve turns into a headache-inducing powder bomb on my skin, this continues to evolve into a creamy, chocolately, sugary floral delight. I wish I could drink it.

It’s a pretty fragrance but the longevity and projection are so weak.... I have to say, the patchouli here is the strongest note. At least, on my skin. It’s not a bad thing per se but just beware if patchouli isn’t your thing... Overall, a unique and pretty scent that I am happy to sample but not to purchase...

I enjoyed this more than Accident a La Vanille. It does not smell gourmand to me, I just get a slightly sweet almondy, iris-y floral scent. I do get a little patch in the drydown, but not enough to put me off. Very pretty. The only problem is it is very weak, otherwise I would have considered purchasing.

African Queen by Jousset Parfums – 5/10 Not really a fan of this house overall, but if I had to pick one, this would probably be the best. It’s a strange, sweet scent that leans gourmand, but definitely has some odd twists. I’d say it’s something you really need to test before buying. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend the house in general.

Turned my stomach. Imagine you take Lemon Pledge (or the closest citrus-scented cleaning equivalent you have in your pandemic stash right now), a cheap "rose" potpourri from the dollar store, some old, dried out candy bars you found under your car seat, and Walmart's almond extract, and shook it up in a bottle...that's African Queen for you. I remember I watched some lady groveling on YouTube over this perfume and it got me pretty interested. The description alone was right up my alley - French tarte au citron?! Yes! I love sweet citrus scents, lemon curd, and lemon tarts, but this isn't it, sis. I am sorry. But it smells cheap. It's like some mad scientist was let loose in a fragrance lab, took notes he thought women liked, and threw them all together to create a "perfume". It has a aire of trying to be something sensual and evocative like Serge Lutens, but the disgusting "rose" and synthetic "almond" monstrosity is completely killing it for me. If someone told me this was intended for hand soap or window wiping solution, I wouldn't bat an eyelash, because that's what this reminds me of. Dollar store hand soap.

strong toilet cleaner vibe from the lemon with big licorice energy. like a worse version of lira. drydown is a very light vanilla, barely there. very sad disappointed mom head shake

Trying to be too many things at once and succeeding at none of them. I don't consider this fragrance to be gourmand, it has more in common with air freshener.

you know cotton candy scented lotions/sprays? like think art stuff from bath and body in the 90's. Thats this. With a name like african queen I was thinking like vavvaVOOM. Didn't live up to the hype. luckily I bought a lil .7 ml just to try. I can't imagine any grown adult liking this but if you do, good for you. Too juvenile for me.

African Queen, by Jousset Parfums, smells like lemon juice, lemon cream, vanilla, metallic almonds, raspberries, a hint of jasmine and a hint of white chocolate (the same white chocolate note you can smell in Matcha Meditation by Maison Margiela). A very interesting and unique scent. Usually, after you have smelled hundreds of fragrances, many of them smell alike. It is not the case for African Queen, I have never smelled something like this. I couldn't understand the scent from the start, but after some thinking, I think I can say that the closest realistic thing it smells like is a lemon and raspberry muffin, but not a sweet one. You can smell a hint of sugar, but it smells like a muffin where the lemon is the star. Don't expect a gourmand dessert, the scent leans towards being acidic. This perfume is great, a captivating experience, but according to my taste, it's not something I would wear, because I don't wear lemon scents.

Love this lemon Rose gourmand. It leans a bit more feminine, to me, but marketed as unisex. Their scents are all extraits so you are not buying expensive water. Love it and also love the more contraversial Goirmand Bakhoor which I love despite the tobacco and smoke notes which are not my thing, usually, but the balance the dripping caramel sweetness beautifully.

This seems to be either a love or hate it perfume. I could not stand it because the notes are so discordant, like a child banging on the piano keys loudly. It wasn't until the late dry down that it smelled good, and if it had smelled like that the entire time I would have probably bought a bottle. The notes are not in harmony imo.

This is a verrrry sweet tonka-rose scent on me, bordering on candied raspberry. It's pretty disappointing since I loved the idea of a almond-forward, chocolatey rose perfume. It's fine if you like sweet scents, but I don't.

I like this but it's soooo light. I had a sample without a spray, and I'm curious how this sits with the diffuser. I really like the lemon bar pillow/almondy vibe but I have to sniff so hard to get it

The lemon is very loud in the initial spray BUT the dry down is a beautiful Lemon tart. Sweet from the tonka and almond , yet fresh from the lemon. I like it.

SEX. I'm not generally into gourmands, they're usually too generic or literal. This is an aphrodisiac.

This smells like cheap loose makeup powder. Gross.
