Black Musk

My dad used to purchase the regular Jovan Musk for my mum, but he passed away. So, this year I purchased the entire Jovan Musk line for her (black, white, original), except the tropical, I couldn't find it. I love ALL of them! I remember smelling a musk scent on her when I was a child, but never knew what it was until my order came. I must say, this scent is a classic scent. It smells youthful and classic at the same time. I can see any woman over the age of 21 wearing this fragrance. Jovan is classic, soft, and beautiful. White is floral, soft, and reminds me of a wedding. Black is soft and sexy - it reminds me of a modern, much more expensive scent, but I am not sure which...I'll update when I remember. All-in-all my mommy was happy, I am happy, and I will be ordering these for myself too. Thank you Daddy!

I picked it up as the white musk, musk and black musk were the cheapest in the shop and as ive had white musk before I know its strong for the price. I smelt white musk and musk and found it was way too white floral and not as deep and warm as I like musk. Black musk was really beautiful though, youthful, sweet and very sexy and didnt smell cheap like the others. Amazing value for price and even reminded me of my mother's old bottle of black opium

Like the description says, Jovan Black Musk Women is truly a mysterious, sexy and sensual fragrance. It works with your body chemistry to create a dangerously seductive scent. Floral, indulgent and warm! So true. I love it. Also its so inexpensive, does not mean its drug-store quality. On the contrary it smells like an expensive scent, nothing cheap about it. Worth a try. At that price, you get a very good deal. I love it !

I can’t explain where I’ve smelled this perfume before but I can tell you that it smells delicious in my opinion. It’s very floral with a hint of some berry. I’ve definitely gotten some compliments wearing this and it’s by far my favorite perfume I own!

My new love <3 Not without the help of all people who reviewed it. I can't believe this is EDC! This perfume has such personality! It's bold and sexy and flirtatious. Feeling I'm 20 again :) It is sweet, yes, but not cloying. It is a perfect blend.

I got this in very cheap price. And it actually smells nice, good value considering the price. It smells flowery with berries, and it reminds me of CK Euphoria. I think this cologne is very good, especially if you're on tight budget.

Cedar, purple berry, a tiny chocolate hint and vanilla woods. Reminds me of something I smelled in the 1980’s as a small child. Definitely has an 80’s vibe to it. Great for layering with white musk.

I feel like scent notes are missing! On me this is a this is a plum,jammy,musk incense scent on me. Longevity and sillage are pretty decent for me. In my opinion this is wearable year round.

There's a fruity note, perhaps raspberry, that makes this sweet and a bit juicy. Other than that, musky/amber and maybe orchid. Pretty!

I wore this scent throughout my freshman and sophomore years of highschool so it’s very nostalgic. I still like it :)

I got this for my mom in an online order and this was surprisingly nice. It's youthful, it's modern. It reminds me of something along the lines of the original Black XS For Her, then again the last time I smelled it was when it released so take that with a grain of salt. Scent wise. Imagine a dark and juicy pomegranate, some jasmine and other florals breathing life into this and it finishes with some wood and patchouli. The patchouli isn't dirty. There's a lot more notes to this on other websites than the two we're given on here as a heads up. From a male perspective I'd love to see a scent like this on a woman in the right situations. Although it may not be a 12+ hour room filler with a sensible amount of sprays, comparing it to a lot of other fragrances in the $10 price range in my part of the world this doesn't smell as cheap as I thought it was going to, it's not some forgetful light flowery smell or something out dated so I can't understand why there's so many negative reviews about this. Are people just mad they didn't get black orchid or whatever the internet told them they need. some reason the opening of this fragrance reminds of of a £490 fragrance called "blonde amber" by Clive Christian. It's going in a completely different direction but If you love the opening of black musk for her and don't want the opening to go. Try the way more affordable clone of it by Mason Asrar called Faris Al Arab. It's a mouthful to say but when I got that fragrance in I immediately thought of that, along with a handful of mens fragrances.

i believe this is going to be my signature scent. (it didn't. a really cool fragrance with a bad formula(?) maybe) it reminded me of myself in a awful period of time. - just a little fruity, flowery and musk with just enough amount. when i first sprayed it on my wrist i heard pomegranate with musk and some leaf-ish notes with alcohol. when the alcohol dried the leaf-ish notes were gone and i started hearing vanilla. i think my nose didnt pick up most flowery notes separately because it was the first time it picked up pomegranate in a perfume. then i started hearing vanilla more, with more musk. it is really beautiful. - not the best sillage and i cant really talk about longevity on skin because wash my hands too many times because of covid BUT on my t-shirt it stayed 6 to 7 hours, im happy with that. (update to this after two months, this sillage and lasting made me so sooo sad. i realised it didnt stayed even 5 hours. on my skin it was maybe 2 hours, on clothing mayyybe 4?) - it matches with my dream perfume idea soooo i love it even more - probably not a good gift because my sister and my dad dont like it and my mom dont have any feelings about it. but i think this can be a cool scent for any woman. (update: my sister really likes this scent now, actually she is going to buy one bottle for herself. my dad still says this suits for an older lady than me but i still use it because the sillage is so bad only i can smell it.)

Just had a chance to try Black Musk. Initially, there was too much alcohol to detect any of the notes here. But about after 10 mins or so, my nose picked up pink berries with leather and musk. The berries and the musk are equally present here. But note that the berries aren't exactly fresh as they would be in a fruity/floral perfume. The berry note in this gives it a heavy (but not cloying) sort of sweetness due to the generous amount of musk they put into it. After about an hour, the berries and the musk settled on my skin equally strong. For my own personal preference, I wish that they turned down the musk a tad bit and added some more of the sharper leather note that was present in the beginning. It certainly could use a "pick me up" after about a couple of hours because it gets really heavy due to the musk. Still though, it could totally rock the boat of those who appreciate these types of fumes! However, that being said, for the price, you'd be getting a cologne with the staying power of ANY expensive EDP in the market. Projection and sillage are just excellent! If you like berries and your skin works with musk and leather really well, given the low price this large bottle, Black Musk could be your everyday scent or even special occasion companion. Ultra sexy, berry-laced, leathery musk... This is a woman's perfume; NOT for little girls! ;)

For me, the House of Jovan never disappoints! Black Musk was a blind buy for me that I recently purchased online. This is my sixth fragrance from Jovan--two of which, have been in my collection for what seems like an eternity. Jovan just knows how to do fragrance! I'm wearing Black Musk today whilst I'm at work. Later, I'll be wearing it to run a few errands before adjourning home. Black Musk is perfect for a snowy, casual Friday. To my nose, it reminds me of Jovan's Silky Rose when it is first sprayed; In that, it smells similar without the effervescence. Both fragrances evoke feelings of positivity. Black Musk is straight up flowers, berry candy (not listed), musk, and powder. That's it! A wonderful fragrance in its simplest form. It creates a very nice scent bubble for the first couple of hours of wear. Then, it dries down to a wafty, incense-y, skin scent in the 3rd hour. This definitely needs to be re-applied throughout the day, if you're not into skin scents. Black Musk works for women of all ages, and does not smell dated. In fact, it is a great break from the sugary-sweet fruitchoulis of today. As a result of low longevity and the musk note, I do not think that Black Musk is a safe blind buy.

Found Jovan Black Musk on the clearance rack for $5.24 the other day. Wow! A big 2 oz. bottle of cologne that several of my Fragrantica friends said was lovely, and practically a steal at $5.24? I'll bite! Unsniffed, even! Jovan's entry into the berry musk category is a bit late in the game, and while it's not in the category of . . . say L'Artisan's Mure et Musc, it's still a very nice scent. The berry notes have kind of a "snowcone" aroma on my skin. Yes, like the blue snowcone that is somehow raspberry-flavored. And like a snowcone, Black Musk is more cool and fruity than sweet. It has some flowers and a touch of incense as it dries down. Honestly, I don't get much of the musk until several hours in. Even then, it's not a "sweaty" musk, but more of the clean, shower-fresh variety. The scent has amazing longevity for a cologne concentration, lasting 7+ hours. Black Musk is proof that smelling great doesn't have to cost a fortune. I think it's more of a warm weather scent, but I'll probably leave it in the rotation for winter, too.

This smells just like Flower Bomb extreme on me. It is a sweet burnt sugary scent like the original flowerbomb (which I cannot stand as it is too sweet) but has added depth with something dark woody and patchouli like on my skin just like the Extreme version. A dark musk with berry and some green-ness. I think I can smell some patchouli but it might be my over active imagination. This is a very good perfume for the price and the staying power is excellent on my skin. The lotion is amazing too. I cant stand to part with the exorbitant ammount of money to buy another bottle of the original Flowerbomb extreme as I own so many other perfumes so I will stick with this for now :-) I have also noticed this has the same cucumber mixed with burnt candyfloss note that I find in both Chanel Chance and Black Orchid. Give this a test if you like any of the above mentioned fragrances

JBM is rather a Western and modern interpretation of black musk. The darkness comes from vanilla and dark berries. You see in Arab perfumery black musk is mainly the very animalic, carnal, almost dirty, and very warm musk (as opposed to the very clean, synthetic, cool white musk as in laundry and soap). In the past it was obtained from a certain species of deer 🦌 but now it is implied by other notes like leather, civet, incense and dark smoky woods. JBM is not this type of black musk, there’s nothing really dark, skanky or mysterious. I sense blackberries, tangy and sweet, then soft and creamy florals then a quite sweet vanilla with a relatively clean but warm musk. It’s very pleasant and lasts for 2-3 hrs, more like EDT rather than EDC. Great for the humble price and packaging but not as memorable as the OG JM.

I was intrigued by this but I don't think that it was sold in the USA so I ordered it online. I've wanted this because I like everything I have from Jovan so far and I wanted to complete my collection. I find all of the fragrances from Jovan to be easily wearable at work and in daily life. I never have to worry about offending someone with my fragrance when I wear something from Jovan. This fragrance is similar to a lot of things that are popular on the market today. I can smell berries and musk and fruit in general. I don't necessarily smell flowers like I thought I would smell. This is very similar to Bath and Body Works Black Amethyst without the patchouli and because it stays close to the skin this makes for a more wearable fragrance in my opinion. It lasts a reasonable 4-5 hours.

I’ve got a soft spot for Jovan, they’re good at making inexpensive fragrances that are at least a step above most other fragrances in their price range. Like others before me, I definitely get pomegranate (or other non-descript dark fruits. . . ), vanilla sweetened patchouli, a bit of florals, and Jovan’s signature soft, creamy white musk. This is the sweetest Jovan I’ve tried, but it’s not cloying to me. I feel like this might be Jovan’s take on a fruitichouli. Longevity and potency, for me, are on par with Jovan’s other feminine branded musk fragrances. Two or three sprays is enough; I tend to apply this after an evening shower and I can still smell it on my pajamas in the morning. I think I paid 8 bucks for my bottle, and it’s a definite like for me.

Well...I can say with a certainty that this fragrance does NOT work with your body chemistry to create a "dangerously seductive scent". I haven't been seduced once today, not even a wolf whistle!! All I get is a bunch of floral and the slightest of musk lingering in the background. When I first applied it I didn't smell a thing, it wasn't until I started to work up a sweat that the fragrance started to appear. Seems to work best with body heat, a good one for the gym methinks. It is certainly a nice floral, wears close to your skin and wafts up with the heat, good price too, worth a try if you like soft perfumes. I'm glad it's not dangerously seductive, I would have a hard time explaining to my husband all the men following me home....

I would call this white musk rather than black. A light musk with some nondescript floral notes, a bunch of vanilla and something slightly fruity but not overt. These are the actual notes: Top Notes Pomegranate, Orange, Nectarine Heart Notes Freesia, Jasmine, Iris Base notes Crème brûlée, Patchouli, Musk, Precious woods Based on this breakdown, I would call the notes as watered-down musk, pomegranate, freesia and creme brulee. But, it's not gourmand. That creme really is just a fancy word for vanilla.

Smelling good doesn't necessarily have to be costly.. and this is is just a good example. So sophisticated, yet comforting and delicious. Musky, with well balanced sweetness. Got complimented by my 3 officemates on my first use, and 2 of them thought I was wearing Euphoria. Close enough.. especially on the 1st spritz.. so I stock up few more bottles of this one :) Average longevity, 5-6hrs on me, good enough considering it's just a cologne. Great value for money! Good job on this, Jovan!

This is a very sweet musk. And like so many others have stated below, there are other notes in this that contribute to the sweetness besides florals. Berries are a good guess but there's something in this that reminds me of Charlie Gold & that has cinnamon, plum, caramel and apricot that contributes to its sweetness. The musk balances out the sweetness and really stands out during the dry down stage. This is a scent that I like during the warm weather despite its sweetness.

Really love Jovan, descriptions at the outer box are truly right, well recommended for musky lovers most important affordable price with great quality. I Can't stop smelling myself too. Jovan Black Musk is very sexy.

I bought it on ebay and i realy, realy like this perfume. The first thing i thought when i sprayed it, ah i smell flowerbomb from V&R... The price is also very intersting.

Very similar to Tous in heaven her, with some added blackberries and without the apple hint.

My favourite scent while I was in high school, it’s so versatile

When I first ordered this, I was a little worried it would have a gross plastic-like smell with a vague floral fragrance mixed in. The scent is surprisingly good for something that cost $8 on Amazon. I love the blend of tangy blackberry and musk with a hint of floral notes, but the longevity leaves a lot to be desired. Again, I knew not to get my hopes too high because it cost $8, but I still expected better longevity from a ‘cologne concentrate spray’. Unless you bathe yourself in it, it wears off fairly quickly (~3 hours) which means you have to constantly reapply it. On the bright side, this is a great casual scent for work since nobody should be able smell it on you unless you’ve literally just bathed yourself in a tub of it OR they have an extremely strong sense of smell. I would recommend this a starter scent for younger wearers due to it’s affordability and lightness.

Blind bought this online after reading glowing reviews on here, and for $8 seemed like I didn't have much to lose. Let me tell ya...it's the absolute BEST blind buy I have ever made! This scent is intoxicating, very juicy. I am wearing it on the first day that feels like Fall here in the Southern US and I think it fits perfectly. I could see this working during any season really, but might be a little too heavy on the most humid/hot of summer days. My skin chemistry must put out some strong signals that indicate my love of goth music and the darker side of life, because that is what I smell on me - a dark, mysterious night club playing goth music, just the way I like it. It is intriguing, seductive, and long-lasting - and for $8 you might as well give it a shot and see if it works the same magic for you. If it doesn't...send it to me. ;)

This smells so much like one of the lancome perfumes I tested recently. It was in the la vie est belle range (none of which I enjoy as they are far too sweet for me), and I don't like jovan black musk either. Too sweet. Vanilla and patchouli with florals and berries. Considering how popular this sort of scent is with most other people and how pricey they are when packaged in a fancy bottle, I really do think this is worth buying if you like strong and sweet floral perfumes! You can get the flowerbomb sort of vibe for a tenner! Not for me but honestly it is in exactly the same vein as so many scents I tested in selfridges while looking for something I actually like!

I guess I am in the minority when it comes to Black Musk. I expected something incredibly musky, but all I get from it is a terrible mixture of stale alcohol, sweat and cheap deodorant, so definitely something unpleasant in other words. The fragrance is sweet but not how I like it. It is not my concept of sexy muskiness and it apparently does not work with my skin chemistry. I much prefer the classic Jovan Musk. Black Musk is inexpensive and very long lasting, so for those loving such scents and for whom they do not end up the way Black Musk did for me, it is an absolute bargain!

this is so disgusting. i really like the original musk one so i tried black musk yesterday and i hate it. on my skin it's cheap sweet berry candy with a hint of musk in it. lasted forever. in the and i had to wash it off.

This perfume smells horrible to me...it reminds me the cough syrup and the heavy musk makes me dizzy. I have been trying to sell it on-line but obviously this is not a popular scent.

I love floral woody scents but this is just a big waft of berries and musk! Lasts forever on my skin! Huge bottle up for trade..

Oh my goodness, does this smell BAD on me! From reading the reviews of others, this must be a very nice scent for some people. I thought musk + floral = heaven. I wish it had gone well with my chemistry, but sadly, it couldn't have gone worse. From the initial spray until I finally scrubbed it off an hour later, all I smelled was a weird, rotten fruit scent. Sadness. I'm giving this one away pronto to whomever I can find that will enjoy it.

Jovan Black Musk is an inexpensive and grown-up fruity musk. The fruit accords are not listed in this scent pyramid, but I can tell you that it features pomegranate, nectarine, jasmine, patchouli and white musk. Jovan Black Musk is marketed as a sexy scent, however I don't see it that way. It's a little too predictable and soft for my liking. Although admittedly for the price, Jovan Black Musk is of good quality. The blend of pomegranate and nectarine is more tart than sweet, with the musk playing second best to these rather strong fruity notes. I can't say that it smells anything like Flowerbomb to my nose. The floral notes are subtle, not strong. I gave this fragrance a full day's wear, and while the longevity was quite impressive, the projection was weak. I almost forgot that I was wearing a perfume. It's not a bad fragrance, definitely worth trying if found at a bargain price. But honestly, I wouldn't pay more than $15 to own this.

Nice and no patchouli. If you are considering buying this very well priced fragrance as a Flowerbomb or La Vie Est Belle dupe, look at the notes. They are not the same at all. I have Jovan Black Musk for women on my wrist right now. I have Flowerbomb on my other wrist. Sorry, Jovan Black musk lacks the patchouli found in the other two pricier fragrances. They just aren't the same. Jovan Black Musk for women is just what it says it is, a musk with florals. It is sweet and soft. It is nice for the price. It has decent staying power and projects okay. Good for daytime wear. But don't buy it thinking it will smell like Flowerbomb or La Vie Est Belle. You may be disappointed. If you want to try something lower priced that is closer to the two fragrances I mentioned, give Rhianna's Reb'l Fleur a go. It's still not the same, but it is closer.

This is a classic mure et musc scent in the French tradition - I wish more would've mentioned this as it was a blind buy and is happily exactly what I was looking for. Similar to Givenchy Hot Couture but slightly deeper berry and smokier/incense-y musk. To my memory, Hot Couture is brighter, fruiter, sweeter, and warmer. They're strangely exactly the same - in that they're the same theme/family/notes - and completely different; in that they take a different approach to get there. Anyway, if you're looking for a classic mure et musc to warm up your cold winters and chilly falls, but don't want to spend a fortune - like most cost these days! - then this one's for you. Perfectly elegant, acceptable, and cozy for the holidays!

cannot agree more, you get not at all what is promised by the name. what you smell is a bouquet! and roses play the 1st fiddle,indeed. but then they turn into sweet floral-fruity fragrance. if you're into this kind of fragrances and looking for a cheapie that doesn't smell cheap, that is it! on the same day i tested L De Lolita Lempicka Fleur De Corall another sweet one (don't understand this hype about it)-but to my nose it's far behind jovan. i would change the price tags of Lolita and Jovan. Jovan is definitely winning-it stays clear and sweet whike Lolita turns into sth soapy and nauseous... i would go for Black Musk if there were no so many other temptations))

Thanks to awesomeness for this fume and some others in an excellent trade. The first thing I notice in black tea ( not one of my favorite scents) but it disappears pretty quickly and I get a burst of black currants-I notice that neither of these are mentioned in the official review but I sure smell them. Later I smell Musk and a bit of powder-not a suffocating powder but just a hint that blends in with the musk in a soft creamy delight. Aside from the Black Tea, I think this a very elegant scent that could be worn night or day. I look forward to trying it in warmer weather to see what if any changes occur.

My Jovan Musk was Fresh Patchouli Musk, I wore it until it vanished from the shelves & my last saved bottle was empty. This was the only perfume I was ever faithful to without waivering. No not ever. Every occasion was an occasion to wear my Fresh Patch. I wish it would be revisited by the brand... at least for long enough to allow me to by a smaller refrigerator & stock it full to the brim with the stuff. I could renew my long lost scent purity 😓... alas, now I am a complete perfume whore! (thx Jovan)

I really like this one and admit to buying it blind based on the reviews (you all are enablers!). I wish I had this earlier in the summer, b/c it's terrific on warm days. I get a big bowl of berries and musk that's very refreshing and juicy. Some drugstore scents have that "eau de drugstore" as I call it--that nasty synthetic or stale odor, but this has none of that. I find this acts more like a body spray on me, but for the price/ml you can afford to spray this with abandon.

What a bangin' bargain basement fruitchouli. Found this at BEALLS for $7.99 and wow! Can't decide if it reminds me more of La Vie est Belle or SJP Lovely. I think right off the bat it makes me think most of Kat Von D Sinner (2017 bottle) but that's just a reinterpretation of YSL Black Opium. This is sexy, yes, but with a lowercase S; I've smelled combinations of these notes many times before, just impressed with the quality of the formulation for being less than $10.

I bought this in Dubai, and I ADORE it. It smells so expensive, lush, floral, vanilla and sexy. However, after 3 hours it dries down to a pure vanilla essence (the baking kind) smell. This does not last on me!!!! :( After about 1-2 hours i can't smell anything unless I put my nose to my wrist. It's such a disappointment cuz I love it! I'll probably continue to use it, but bring it everywhere I go for touch-ups since the bottle is so low-maintenance and portable.

This is a very pleasant fragrance for being so inexpensive! A rich 'warm skin'(musky) smell but at the same time not at all overpowering - this is what I can only describe as a full bodied scent , almost like it was an oil perfume. I know it says florals in the notes but I keep getting berries instead - blackberries & blueberries sitting in fresh, sweet vanilla cream .. Very edible... A very sensual, soft and comfortable scent. Not at all sickening sweet either.

Iv had this fragrance since 2018...and i habe always smelt a 'honey' smell in this! Fast forwad to now...and iv just got a bottle of ' Candid Night' a dupe for 'Scandal By Night' and sprayed it on clothes...and my first impression was...very nice...wait...what!?...this smell's so like 'Jovan Black Musk'! Guy's love this smell too...iv never smelt the OG Scandal By Night (only on someone else) but yea...iv seen no one mention this smell's like that!?

For an inexpensive scent, this is very nice. I'm not sure what makes this a "black musk", but it's just a light musky floral, a bit powdery. Keep your expectations at the level of the price you pay for this which is usually under $15.00 and you won't be disappointed. Looking for a musky floral? This is it. Overall, Jovan really puts out good quality good scented perfumes/colognes at a great price. Good value for the money.

I bought this because some compared it to Black Amethyst by B&BW. The color of the box and liquid are the same colors as Black Amethyst, but the scent isn’t similar at all (I should have known this from the notes). I love Jovan White Musk. This is a pass, unfortunately. It smells like the scented drawer sachets from the At Home store, or Kirklands. It will be going to the thrift store.

Reminds me A LOT of La Vie Est Belle (my Mum's perfume). Lovely but not my style. I only paid 8$ for it which is really great for what you get. Personally, I was hoping for a dominant musk note but I mostly get sweet fruits and florals with a hint of smokiness in the back. Probably will not keep it but still very lovely for people who love this scent profile.

i used white musk reliably but this one has a deeper sweetness and a lighter musk, a stronger floral, much more flirty . creme brule, pomegranate, jasmines, musk are most prominent . i wasnt sure at first but im pretty sure theres patchouli here as well just not apparent at first . this also leans more into animalic territory than the white musk variation
