Jovan Musk for Men

It was a blindbuy and I gifted it to my man anxiously.I love musk in all it's variations but I didn't know what would hubby think of it and he has a very sensitive nose.I didn't know would he accepte place this cheapie (3oz bottle=11$) beside his creeds and xerjoff and mugler? I gave it to him right after his shower.he took it off it's box.qsmiled and said:"it looks like a perfume my grandma used to have" then he pressed the atomizer infront of his neck.my heart was beating fast.I wished he had sprayed it on his wrist so that if he hated it he could wash it easily and there would be no need for another shower As soon as it's scent reached my nose I forgot to think about his impression because I could only think of the cool scent I was smelling.I loved it! I hate too much animalic scents and this one isn't a dirty scent in my book.in the contrary,it's clean but it's not a detergent like scent either.it's a combination of clean musk and animalic musk with a touch of lavender and sharpened by a dash of spices.it's not a cold scent,not a warm one either,actually it's both of them and I find this powder puff of musk and spice and woods very appealing. I can't detect citruses or green notes.it's sharpness tickles my nose but at the same time I find it very comforting.jovan musk for man is pure sex in a bottle!I can see it's not everyone's cup of tea but for me if it was ten times more expensive,still I would buy it I've read in numerous comments that it's old or dated.yes it smells like what classic men used to smell,real men but it's still how my man should smell.I'd say it's timeless and definitely ageless.I simply love it! Hubby was looking at me.he said:your smile and your glowing eyes are telling me that you like.I asked:"but you don't like it?" Reading the comments and comparing them with my experience makes me think Jovan Musk uses some kind of psychedelic cloaking device to confuse the public. Everyone seems to encounter this fragrance differently. The full range of reactions is present-- from "it's pissy" to "it's too sweet" to "it's too floral" to "it's too masculine" to "I love it" to "I hate it," etc. What is this stuff? To me, it's mostly nostalgic. This was the sort of fragrance my brothers and I would get as gifts at Christmas-- usually in little bottles rather than a full presentation. Likely, our parents would get a cheap gift set of Jovan fragrances and parcel out the contents to the four of us. As to what the fragrance smells like, my nose goes RIGHT to the floral notes! I sniff it off my arm and think, "Men would wear this? It's like a bouquet dipped in honey!" But then, right on the heels of this thought, comes the impression of how pleasant the fragrance is. Would I wear this out in public? Probably not. It's a little too floral, too sweet, and, well, too "odd" to the modern nose. But, would I wear it on a cool, lazy day around the house. Absolutely! It's like an old graphic t-shirt. You wouldn't wear it to impress anyone, but it's "comfy" and reminds you of happy times. Update: The more I visit this fragrance, the more I like it. I would amend my comments above to say that I WOULD wear it in public. I don't know if anyone around me would like to smell this on me. I'm not sure I much care. I can't quantify it, but this fragrance just makes me happy. Jovan Musk brings a smile to my face every time-- a great, big, floral, spicy smile.

I really wasn't too sure about this one at first. The first time I put it on I oversprayed it and I got a bit too much of that "dirty" musk scent. However, I've been giving this a good try and I even bought the spray deodorant and aftershave to pair it with, and... Wow! The opening really can feel dated, at first it nearly screams "grandpa." But the way this develops on skin it becomes so soft and sensual. This is a very comfortable scent, a spray on my chest, the back of my neck, and on each of my forearms and this stuff creates a very comfortable scent bubble with some gentle warmth and sweetness. Longevity is pretty moderate, strangely I feel like it lasts better if you're gentle on the atomizer. About an hour of solid projection before it reigns down to a skin scent that lasts about five or six more hours. Even after that initial hour I can pick this up wafting up through my shirt throughout the day. This could be somebody's signature scent, it's soothing and easy to wear. Not quite for formal events but Jōvan musk wears easily to work or casual events. I sense a few similarities to Tabac Original, and I really enjoy that one. Jōvan would do well to release more products so this scent could be layered with a lotion, shaving soap and shower gel. I'm curious about the original Musk Oil but I don't believe that's on the market anymore, I can't find it being sold anyhere online.

I am a girl...a 62 year old girl. I LOVE this boy's fragrance! Is that wrong? Is it Politically incorrect? Will the fragrance police come barreling through my front door as soon as I post this? You never know these days when you publicly confess something, lol! Jovan Musk for Men is so comforting to me, my hubby, my son and most of all my wallet!!! There is a seller on eBay that starts their auctions at 1 cent. I guess most folks out there think JMFM is a old fashioned "grandpa scent" because 9 times out of ten I will win those auctions for anywhere from 1 cent to 1 dollar. Plus shipping, of course, but still ab bottle costs me no more than $5. This is the kind of fragrance you stockpile. I spray the dogs fresh out of their bathes, our linens, the curtains, my clothes and hair (that's where the longevity comes in). I spray hankies and use them as reusable dryer sheets. I spray cotton balls and slip them into my brasserrie, maxi or mini pads in our shoes..there is a million ways to use this fragrance. Once I had my hand in my purse and just about to take the bottle out to give myself a spritz and a guy jumped me trying to grab my purse. I sprayed him in the eyes and he stumbled away blindly. Jovan Musk for Men could have actually saved my life cuz I'm not the kind of girl to give up my belongings without a fight! JMFM is my new mace!!!

Sometimes there's an experience that a fragrance takes you that brings a tear to your eye. That happened to me with Jovan Musk. I picked this one up for 1,000 Yen ($9) in Japan, because it's a classic that I've never smelled and it was among the cheapies in the store. The first time I sprayed it, I immediately remembered my late father. It was the exact scent I remember from decades ago. It was as if I was standing in his apartment. Visiting him on weekends; having Sunday dinner and watching football together (that was in my 20's). I never thought of my dad wearing cologne. He must've had a bottle of this stuff in his bathroom that I never noticed. It was amazing to me how a fragrance can revive those emotions; those warm feelings and memories. My father has since passed and all I have left are those memories, some pictures, and little things that pop up from family members (cards he sent, notes he wrote, etc.). And then there's this kind of magic from a bottle of Jovan Musk. He was a man's man, an old-school type of guy. There are plenty of colognes that would have suited him, but he chose Jovan Musk. It feels special to connect with my dad in this sort of way, and learn about his fragrance choices long after his passing.

Got this on the mail today, bought it to get over the threshold of an order to get the free shipping and needed a few bucks more. The bottle, sprayer and cap are of the cheapest kind, but I guess it's what keeps the price so low. On first whiff, after spraying into the cap (as I usually do when trying the colognes that I don't want straight on my skin), it smelled very but very familiar. Nice, fresh, a bit pungent, but very much like another cologne I have and use from time to time, but I couldn't name it immediately. So I scoured my collection for those ones that don't have a sweet smell (as this one doesn't) and after going thru some of them I found it: it was none other than the old and venerated Grey Flannel. I can't say why no one in the reviews below has ever pointed that out, but it smells like 85% GF with a less bitter smell. I need to find a use for it now, need to try it socially to get an idea of what impression it causes and to evaluate its performance. BTW, as it is, I love it, it smells clean and fresh, with a similar vibe to GF but less gasolinny (not sure that's a word). Stay tuned.

Jovan Musk was meant to be a sexy fragrance, to evoke animal instinct in human by overdosing its animalic aspect, in this case is musk. Well, I got the idea behind it, but the way we interpret scents pretty much depends on our memory, reference, nature, habit and cultural aspect surround us. I live in Indonesia, in a small village in Yogyakarta regency. Most of moms here would smear telon oil (mix of cajuput, anise, coconut) to their babies and toddlers after showering them, followed by putting lots of baby powder on their babies’ faces and bodies (sometimes they put it so randomly, making their babies look weirdly fun). And this is how my brain interprets the smell of Jovan Musk cologne. I do love this cologne, but the image of clueless babies with random powder all over their faces is too attached with Jovan Musk because to me they smell exactly the same. No wonder, most of baby powder products come with lavenderish-musky smell. So, I usually wearing this cologne after the afternoon shower. Who knows I can mingle well with the babies in the neighborhood if I smell like them?

I finally purchased this on sale. Even though it's a budget fragrance, I wasn't prepared to pay full retail price knowing that this has received polarised reviews. I like a bargain and I don't like to be disappointed, what can I say.... So what's it like? A lot softer than I expected, it is easily a unisex scent at first. Very mildly spiced- how I imagine a curry made by a full-blooded Briton for full-blooded Britons might be spiced. That said, I didn't expect florals to take centre stage. There is definitely more musk as time goes by, give it about 45 minutes. It's a less manly version of Avon's Black Suede. Less spice in the shape of cinnamon and less overall musk. Update: This stuff has really grown on me, the citrus has become easier for me to detect, it's not as linear as I initially thought it was- especially after you've worn it for over 2 hours. It's way less of a brute the Avon Black Suede. It's an emotionally mature influencer. None of the oiliness in ABS is present. It's just musky off the top... and then the musk gently fades away. My God.

My great grandfather was a chess champion, and a simple enough man. I can honestly say he made me who I am today and he wore this fragrance. He wore it at church and from a mile around him people knew exactly which man smelled soft and strong and as handsome as he was. Every time I wear it I remember the footsteps I’m standing in. This fragrance is better than just sentimental Value however. The carnation And floral notes smells so sweet and powdery and reminds me of my great grand mother who grew the same flowers the spices and citrus come through but not in a piercing way. I need not mention the musk not much more manly than this fragrance . If you are a man, and want your smell to live up to you, this is it. You may hear it’s linear but I love this fragrance. I have tried so, so many scents-some quite costly-but this cheapie has always been my go-to. It's simple, more about a feeling to me then specific notes. At first, I get a slight whiff of mint and citrus, which moves to a warm amber heart that has slightly sexy spiciness. All the while, a clean, slightly powdery musk mixes my natural skin scent, anchoring it all. I'm 33, so I have no memories of anyone wearing Jovan. Cool Water and 90s aquatics are what feel like "dad" to me. This doesn't feel designer for sure, but it doesn't feel skanky or laughably outdated. Maybe it's my nose, my style, or my skin, but it's the only fragrance I've tried that feels like me. My only gripe is its weakness, but it's super cheap. If you're tired of things that smell "blue" like me you may like it.

It seems to me, I am the lucky one to enjoy this frag right off the bat. I just spritzed myself out of curiosity at the drug store and initial thoughts were "well, could have been better..." Man, it is! Comparing this one to new Narciso Rodriguez Vetiver Musc, I just purchased last week, you would hardly find the difference in the drydown. This one, however, is much warmer, leaning rather to masculine side, yet not harsh. Rodriguez Vetiver Musc on the other hand feels fresh but definitely unisex, softer in terms of musk. No idea how it used to smell fifty years ago, but it is easily enjoyable for today thirty somethings. You can pull it up and for the price of your average McChicken menu. Gave it a chance and it absolutely delivers. Honestly surprised in the most positive way.

Most detectable notes for me: Lavender, Carnation, Pepper, Amber and of course ... Musk Review: Although not the most complex of fragrances, I genuinely really love it. It’s a warm, yet powdery 70s classic that smells extremely masculine and of its time. The musk makes it soapy and smooth. Not a fragrance that is particularly ‘trendy’ in the ‘fragrance community’ for obvious reasons... however that actually makes it all the more likeable to me. To sum Jovan Musk up in one word, surprising! Surprisingly likeable, surprisingly versatile and a surprising performance for the money. The only negative would be don’t put it on pale clothes, as the orange colour may stain. Season: Autumn/Winter/Early Spring Use: Everyday or office wear. Formal or Informal

Affordable, pleasant, soft, picquant, comforting and casual. Great example of a (gasp!) musk-dominant frag, and a good way to learn what musk smells like. The whole array of notes will last 2ish hours, then just the musk and spices will last 2-3 hours more; usually 2-3 sprays will do the trick, and you can reapply with just 1-2. It's pretty unisex (though I think most perfumes are), and if your partner likes it too, it's not half bad to wear for physical intimacy. I find it a little overbearing for hot weather, though, probably not the best choice for work/office/business since not everyone likes musk, and FWIW I don't particularly enjoy applying it right before a meal. Musk and spice smells can mess a little with the taste of food.

This is signature scent worthy, if you are not a mass appeal generic sweet/fresh fragrance junkie. I can't imagine this fragrance being cloying or disturbing to anyone. It's a classic in perfumery, masculine but leaning towards a soapy and floral character. It's not loud, but it's not weak. Gentlemanish scent, for a well put together man. Easy grab for any day, any circumstance, aside from a formal dressing. I would not wear this using a suit. No piss or cloying notes at all (some people could use getting their sinuses checked). Musk is gentle and alluring, not overpowering. $14 in my country. Not bad considering the cost of life here. Would buy again.

Another gift for hubs from our Fragrantica family! He hasn't worn it much, but I see the level has gone down. I think he's layering this under others, and that's a great way to use this one! Of all his cheapies, I think this is my favorite! It's such a warm, sensual, spicy, warm musk. I'd actually wear this myself, and I might do that from time to time. But hopefully as the weather gets cool, he'll start to appreciate this one more. For me, it's a love, but I can live without it (wish there were more categories on Fragrantica). I wore it myself for the review. And it appears to be a current formulation.

What a surprise. A recent 2022 bottle. So cheap, yet so good. Not cheap smelling. The most dominant notes are a very smooth and creamy Sandalwood, gorgeous Carnation and Lavender, a deep rich Amber, fruity Lime, and a very sexy Musk. One of the all time greatest low cost fragrances in history. I keep reaching for this one, leaving all of my $60 to $120 fragrances to collect dust. 50 years of history and Jovan Musk is still relevant today. Just recently discovered it and very happy that I did. I wish I would have known years ago. I will be stocking up.

This scent is very clean and light. I understand some people don't like it because it doesn't interact well with some skin types. When musk doesn't work right with your body chemistry you don't smell nice. But this is great. It smells like that. It can be stifling in hot weather. It has a very good longevity and an average spread. As I said, it may not have that effect on everyone. It's all luck.Also, I think this scent is unisex. It's not a bold scent, but it's comforting and reassuring. If it's still being produced, there must be a reason, right?

For the price it ́s a no-brainer really. The price tag is by no means representing its quality and performance. A nice discovery, as someone in the late 1970 ́s, early 80 ́s wore this and although the guy is dead by around 15 years, it triggered memories. The dude was questionable, but his perfume elevated the impression. It ́s (to a degree) elegant, naughty, adventureous, bold. Does it work in 2019? Sure, but not for teens, as it does have an old school vibe. Good performance but can become offensive when oversprayed. Very masculine!

Let's pause here and think of all the perfumes Murray Moscona could release if hired by Dior or Hermes. This type of perfumers are the ones that make your house market share to explode...times before you needed to create posters with celebrities licking leather belts to sell stuff. Fragrance hunters will say this one is a bargain...but for cologne to become classic signature scent of whole generation and specific subgroups it has to be a magnet and obviously this one does have its own gravity field. Amazing classic!

This is a casual low-key "for me" scent. Unisex. I LOVE it. I don't smell it so much as dated, but as familiar and cozy while being charming, fruity, and musky. My wife hates fragrance, but as soon as she smelled it on me after a shower she said what is that?!?! Is that from the shower?!?! Did you put something on?!? So these days I like to use this for myself at home after an evening shower just before bed, but I can also imagine using it at the gym or after the gym in another lifetime.

The opening always reminds of shaving foam. Then it does that wonderful dirty clean thing that so many fragrances of this era do. This leans much more towards the animalic side of the musk spectrum than the powdery soapy. I love everything about this. I’m not sure if anyone else around me does, and I’m not sure that I care. From the delightfully tacky and out of date bottle and packaging, to the performance and price it’s just a whole lot of fun from start to finish.

I am confused by all the negative reviews. This is one of those "it's still around for a very good reason" old-school frags. It's "dirtier" than I remembered, with a spicy/sweet undertone. Personally I don't detect any mint, and the strong carnation note does NOT make me sneeze, which is unusual for me. Jovan Musk for Men is a classic quasi-barbershop cologne, more of a night fragrance, sexy and earthy. Sillage and longevity are both good.

Soapy clean musky. If that is your thing, you can't go wrong with this sexy scent. It’s very sexy in my humble opinion. It’s interesting that when things get cheap, people are like: this can’t be great! it’s bad or normal. This is a great fragrance, and yes it’s only 10$. Performance is very good for first 2hour (big projection and good sillage) then it’s get closer to the skin and stay for a long time. Review based on 2021 bottle

For the price, insanely good quality scent. Scent alone is 9/10. Besides that... the longevity is really bad, as expected from an eau de cologne though I guess. Sillage isn't bad, around an arms length projection. Scent: 9/10 Longevity: 2.5/10 Sillage: 5/10 Price value: 9/10 Bottle: 6/10 Overall: 6.3/10 Tip: mix this one with some essential oils to boost the longevity and it fixes the gaping hole in this would be great fragrance.

One of my first çolognes when l was 12 years old. The other three were Aramis Classic, Paco Rabanne Pour Homme and Jovan Grass Oil (hard to find and quite expensive since it is discontinued). I started to wear them again this year except for the Jovan Grass Oil. Guess l am back to where l started from since l had worn a lot of new fragrances. Classics and oldies are still quite good.

Remember when you played outside as a kid and the laundry was hanging outside blowing in the spring wind ? This is it .. Its comforting without being overpowering . Its just there... Like its always have been there .. Comforting, clean , sophisticated . People will instantly find you approachable and approachable. Dont let the cheap price scare you off .. This is excellent quality.

I love to wear this, I dont care what anyone else thinks. It smells dated but that is why I love it. It is simple and very versatile, I wear it while running errands or walking around the town. It is very masculine no denying that. I don't think of bell bottoms and disco music with this cologne. I think hmm this smells different than what all the other dudes are wearing.

This has a basic floral cologne scent to it. It's rich when you first spray it. It has a slight barbershop quality to it. Then there is a little aftershave scent. It smells very very very similar to the one for females. This one is just a bit stronger when sprayed. There are some florals and some light aromatic woods. I love it. The musk is far in the dry down.

Jovan Musk... ...is such a 70s Classic and is still modern today. The bright orange color is the color of a sunset or a sunrise. The soft musk is beautiful and it is such a nice summer fragrance. It reminds me of suntan lotion without the usual coconut heavy fragrance profiles. I enjoy spraying it on after a shower.

Love this. This is all warm spices and musk, some of the other notes are present but just for the first 30 minutes then it dries down quickly to a warm spicy musk. This isn’t a big projector but it last forever, easily lasts 10+ hours as a close bubble/skin scent. For $5-10 just buy it.

Just got me some more. Jovan is a beautiful, soapy musk cologne. Smells fresh and clean. Spritz this on when you can't make your mind up what to wear - very versatile with an excellent silage and reasonable longevity considering the price. A really lovely cheapie from Jovan.

My dad always wore this when I was growing up. Very nostalgic for me. Very comfortable, pure, clean scent with some animalistic musk. Not offensive in the slightest, all occasion scent imo. Basic but in the best way. Love it 10/10

Perfect for any season, any time, any occasion. Very respectable, classic, mature. Gen Zers other than myself would hate this, probably call it 'grandpa'... but I love it. A great buy and I'm sure would make great for layering.

21 year old guy. Not really many guys like me wearing this. But I do. And I like it. I like to layer it with Lagerfeld Classic and Fine'ry Without a Trace. Very comforting for me. I like wearing it to bed on my days off.

I love the stuff! I layer one spray of Grey Flannel with two sprays of Jovan Musk for a balanced "old man" musk. Pairs well with an alpaca sweater and spiced chai.

Peculiar to say the least, old-school, very floral, could be an acquired taste, recommend giving it a try before buying, it works great on me so I love it.

Jovan's musk fragrances for men and women were so popular during the 70s when they first came out that not only are they still being produced (and much consumed) today, but for many people they remain the reference for what a musk fragrance should be. Musk is used so often in perfumery that people usually know and appreciate the scent of musk even if they've never been able to give a name to the scent before. It's a very airy, graceful, and intimate scent that best approximates, more than anything I know, the beautiful way a baby's head smells. It can be surprising that Jovan's Musk for Men was so popular during the 1970s when so many absolutely macho fragrances were so popular for men, but in some ways this even enhances the lightness of musk by combining it with fresh notes of citrus and florals and some spices. But the overall accord this produces is not one of delicacy so much it is of cleanliness and airiness. Jovan Musk for Men is far from the most natural or exciting of musk fragrances (and the bottle it comes in is almost hilariously dated), but its popularity attests to how happy it makes so many people feel. And it's so inexpensive you could even use it a room freshener if you only want something fancier and more expensive on your person. This fully deserves its classic status.

What in the world? In the initial minutes after application, this bears a familiar resemblance to Chanel No.5. Is No.5 unisex? Well...I've always considered it so. (All fragrances can be worn by anyone, but you know what I mean). It has a warm, golden, floral quality to it. It's *amber* in color (not necessarily the perfume verbiage "amber", rather, the color of actual amber). This is much soapier than I anticipated, and similarly to the women's version, a neutral, clean, well-constructed musk. This is warmer in tone however, more robust, and feels more autumnal. The lavender is quite nice for an hour or two, but this fades ultimately into a spicy, peppery musk once it's left to settle. On my skin, this becomes sweeter and more plush than it does on my husband's. Were it not for it's reputation, I think folks might consider this quite a soft fragrance. Yes, this has masculine underpinnings, and no, this doesn't smell modern...but do I smell like a dude from the era of my parents' hayday? Well...that's up to the beholder. Pre-established associations can be influential, but I don't feel uncomfortable as a woman in this. It gives me the feeling of wearing a men's flannel - warmer than mine, oversized, grunge, comforting and tomboyishly sensual in a counterintuitive way.

Honestly this mixed with baby powder smells like my dad, basically in my opinion if you are born after 1975 I think you genuinely have no business wearing this. What I mean by that is, this isn't made for our generation (i'm born 94). All of you talking about A&F and signatures like that and saying it doesn't come close to those classics... those are classics for the 90s,00s kids why you would even consider putting jovan musk in that signature age frame is beyond me. Jovan musk is 70s/80s signature kind of scent. Those saying it smells like something someone's mom would buy for them you are correct, why? Most likely because your mom was from the 80s. This smells like your dad, your grandad even.80s & 90s & 2000s babies....this isn't the scent for you and vast majority of our generation wouldn't put this on them. With that said it smells like my dad to me... and for that alone i love this cheap old school scent, but just know its not for the "young" man generally speaking (unless of course you're young and you love this then by all means wear it!) but I just had to clarify and make a point to some of these bad reviews, you're comparing perfumes and colognes that have no business being compared together *eye roll*
