Jovan Woman

Oh man, this was a STRONG one, and I'm sure I oversprayed it! It was a long time ago, and I'm not sure if I used it up or threw it away, It seemed like it wore me instead of me wearing it. A few years later, I worked with a woman who 'definitely' oversprayed it. This was in the 80s, and a lot of people wore heavy perfumes and oversprayed. The fact that I still remember her tells you just how much she wore!

Aha, the vintage wonder! Past the - utterly hilarious, must see - commercial, what is Woman actually like? I was lucky enough to receive a mini of vintage Woman recently, and the difference between this and my current bottle is instructive. Vintage Jovan has warmth, depth, mystery... My modern Jovan lacks the base notes, is more greens and coriander than woody, patchouli. Not as deep, if still utterly appealing to my Coriandre loving heart. :) An experiment ensued. I layered a mere TOUCH of patchouli oil with a generous spray of the modern Jovan - et voila! On dry down I almost couldn't tell the modern layered apart from vintage. Happy! Even happier when I realized that one spray of my beloved Jeanne Arthes Patchouli Sumatra blended into Woman with a perfection that was untraceable. It simply BECAME vintage Woman, no Jeanne Arthes in sight. Highly recommended in whatever version you can find her. Woman is a trip into an unsweetened, 70's kind of seduction that few today will envision without the olfactory experience. By today's standards? Unisex niche!

An easy-to-wear, woodsy, soapy chypre beauty from 1977. Perfect for a first introduction to classic chypres— and still may be your favorite when you’re all done exploring! The packaging is beyond fugly (the original phallic/vaginal “matching” bottles were hilarious but “Man” is long discontinued and “Woman” now presents herself in a sexless, utilitarian rectangular flacon with a cheap brown cap). But the fragrance, even in its current version, is GREAT. If you like the following scents, you’ll find Woman to be in the same vein (but cleaner, lighter, and more wearable): Aromatics Elixir, Agent Provocateur, Cabochard, Knowing, Coriandre, Magie Noire.

Drugstore Classics, I have Patchouli Sumatra and Jovan Woman (modern). Going to put on some Eagles music and try the combination you suggest because I love rich 70s scents. Thanks!! I remember those bottles, what a hoot.
