Sex Appeal

Sex Appeal is a cologne whose character takes you immediately back in time. I tend to think it was always a little sleazy, and it still is, but in a really awesome way. As soon as you put it on, you are transported back to big-collared shirts opened half-way down the chest, tanned playboy centerfolds with big hair, leather jackets, aviator shades, quaaludes and Trans-Ams. This is what a key party in the mid 70's smells like. This is what you wear to take a woman back to your pad to "test out" your new waterbed. This is what you wear to try and get lucky after an Allman Brothers concert. This is the smell of the horny cynicism that bloomed from the ashes of 1960's earnestness and optimism. It's a world we have completely outgrown and left behind, but one that is undeniably cool. It is the smell of free love and irresponsibility. When you put it on, you are filled with a confidence that you probably haven't earned. But don't ruin the dream. Sometimes feeling awesome is the same as being awesome, if only for a little while. UPDATE: the notes listed above are just completely jacked up. Green notes and spices? Okay. There's no way it's that's simple! I get the comparison people mention with Pierre Cardin. On the surface they are similar, particularly with their heavy doses of geranium. But as the scent opens up, I think Sex Appeal sets a very different mood. There's something like a musky amber in the base that brings the fragrance into the hot tub rather than into the board room. The base is quintessentually 1970's, and I'm pleasantly shocked that it can still be conjured up for mass production. It brings up a lot of pseudo memories for me, moments lost in faded 110 photographs where everything is done in shades of wood panelling and avocado green. I bet if you buy a vintage brown leather jacket with big 70's lapels, let it sit in the sun for 20 minutes, then put your nose up to it and sniff; this same musk will be awakened from the slumber of decades. I absolutely love it, but I don't expect everyone to.

The front of the box says it all: "SEX APPEAL - Now you don't have to be born with it!" Hilarious, right? Well, I would have to say that this scent is right up that alley. It is good ... it is 70s good! The shirt collars were huge, the sleeves were puffed, the buttons were undone halfway down the chest, the hair was big, the skirts were tight, the hip-huggers were definitely something to behold! We were less mature then, but who cares? We were also a bit kinder to each other. The notes above are ridiculously incorrect, as well as most of the comparisons below! Burberry Brit? WHAT? Pierre Cardin Pour Monsieur? Well, I have a bottle right here. NOPE, YOU'RE WRONG! Old Spice? NOW WE'RE MOVING INTO LAUGHABLE TERRITORY! Notes-wise, Sex Appeal isn't either of the two mentioned, except for, MAYBE, a tiny bit of pepper, but NO green! None, zilch, zip! Sex Appeal in no way is outdated. On the contrary, it takes you TO a date, the 70s. It will GET you dates, primarily with foxy, tanning-bed, bottle-blonde babes. It opens with Musk, Spices, and Patchouli. It is sweet and seductive. It is fairly linear, but adds some amber and woods in the mid. The dry-down loses nothing from this array of gorgeous notes. The longevity is incredible, just as is the projection and sillage. Projection - 9/10 Fills a room (tested and proven) Sillage - 9/10 Longevity - 9/10 (BEAST - 9 to 12 hours & more in winter) Fragrance - 8/10 Compliments - 8/10 Seasons - All seasons! Time - Day or night! Price Point - 10/10 Jovan Sex Appeal is a cheapie, but a goodie! It reeks of machismo! And with that much virile potency, it will never, ever go away! And, frankly, I don't want it to!

i think this perfume is a hippie.. patchouli.. woodsy ..ambery.. musky.. bomb..and i have to admit that it smells like strong older perfumes.. and more on the feminine side.. but can be worn by both.. its the kind of perfume that really works with your skin chemistry.. sexappeal..hmm the name is somewhat true ..for it has that sexual vibe.. to it.. its an ethnic perfume ..a cult perfume ..a perfume made for those with a strong heart.. and it needs a man or a woman with guts.. who doesn't give a dam about what others think ..its a perfume in sync with nature.. with sexuality.. with human nature..it reminds me of all the old bridal ethnic natural perfumes.. made in africa and india and its believed to be an aphrodisiac..for many centuries.. so i am sure there is some truth to it .. in the modern era it reminds me a lot of opium from yves saint laurent the vintage one.. and it reminds me of cynnabar from estee lauder..also a bit from princess hippie from des filles a la vanille patchouli and reminiscence patchouli.. the only thing i dislike is the violet notes the lavender but it s whats making it more on the masculine side ..so its a perfect blending or layering perfume.. you can add vanilla..sandalwood.. and many other endless oriental deep woodsy notes.. to get rid of the subtle cheapness and add depth and warmth which already exists but on a cheaper level.. it develops and warms up and turns smokey woodsy a bit powdery and a lot of patchouli and incense ..its an insane perfume from the 60 ies !

The Real Spice Bomb: A Review of Jovan Sex Appeal ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I recently had the pleasure of discovering this captivating fragrance during a bit of spontaneous perfume browsing. Though released years ago to much acclaim, Jovan's Sex Appeal remains an unearthed jewel for those seeking a true spice-filled elixir. Upon first spray, an intrepid blend of vigorous spices leapt from the bottle, immediately conjuring warmth on my skin like the tender caress of a lover. Yet, this is no rugged potpourri - while assertive in its spice-infused first impressions, Sex Appeal soon settles into a polished and surprisingly modern oriental accord. In terms of performance, this fragrance progressively shape-shifts throughout the day. It confidently projects with abandon for the first few hours, before moderating into a more intimate scent profile later on. Right until the very end, it leaves delicate traces of spice and skin musk that seem to pull you in closer with its lingering trail. For another natural spice-filled marvel with a slightly niche edge, I would also suggest Al-Rehab's Superman as a compelling alternative. But in the realm of spicy scents with mass appeal and wallet-friendly prices, Jovan's Sex Appeal claims the crown for its balance of heat, harmony and staying power. An instant warmth-giver on cold days, it may not live up to its daring name for some - yet this remains a consummately-crafted and timelessly alluring potion.

Sex Appeal is knotty pine wood paneling. It is the dashboard of a Ford Pinto. It's Lee dungarees and a western-style shirt with pearl snaps. It's the opening Minimoog riff in Gary Wright's "Love is Alive." Released by Jovan to appeal to the mid- (or lower-mid?) market of consumers, it is one of the few hold outs from this time period, and it does smell like a time machine of sorts, especially for those who lived through a time when something like this could be detected in the ether. I was born in 1978, but I do recall this hung around well into the 80s and even early 90s courtesy of its loyalists, and for it to still be produced well into the 21st century is nothing short of a miracle. It is about as modern as an eight-track tape, but it kicks major hiney. Make no mistake, there has never been a big budget for this chestnut, but it smells like it's own special slice of heaven, redolent of old Gold soaps and an olfactory equivalent of analog synthesizer spices ("rare" ones, mind you, the box says it!). There's a gloriously fat and fusty carnation smack dab in the middle and a plastic aromatic ready-for-the-discotheque lavender. This is all rooted in a labdanum-heavy, dry patchouli, "time to musk up" kinda musky musk. It's one of the best of the cheap and cheerful, and will please those who enjoy such classics as Pierre Cardin Pour Monsieur or Karl Lagerfeld original/classic.

- It is much better than you would expect for the price and probably better than most colognes that cost 2x as much. - But that's because most cheap colognes are crap. Encre Noire costs just 2x as much and they're incomparable. - While it's merely decent and not amazing, it is fun. Loud and out of the mainstream. - There is a mild older guy vibe here, but less than with say CK Obsession (which is overall a better perfume). It's old enough and uncommon enough that it's not too strongly asociated with older guys (or whoever) wearing it. - It projects quite a bit and lasts a decent while too despite being an edc. - I mostly get a shaving foam type of scent, some mix of spices that has a bit of sharpness to it and musk. It is loud, but it's not opulent like some 80s fragrances or todays orientals. - I thought it was clearly masculine, but my female friend who has a much more trained nose than I do told me she would expect this on a woman. So it's likely not "clearly" masculine. I was slightly disappointed at first, but I kind of like it now. It projects even when it's freezing outside, it's fun and while the bottle it probably going to last me a lifetime, there are situations where something slightly eccentric like this works. Dirt cheap, so you don't have to think twice about using it.

First review in honor of my dad. This was his signature scent for special occasions from the 70s-00s. Regardless of what some people say about it, it got LOTS of compliments from the ladies. I witnessed them. One friend of my mom's even asked her for the name of it so she could buy it for her husband. Said she'd follow my dad around just to smell it. My mom was embarrassed by the name so she whispered it. heh Dad doesn't really wear cologne any more so I asked if I could have it. Full huge bottle from about 25 years ago that I couldn't go through in 3 lifetimes. It was a gift and he still has a smaller bottle. Doubt I'll wear it much because I identify it so strongly as his, but it's nice the have in the collection. He'll always be around. I do like this fragrance. Spicy initial kick that fades into a clean, soapy/peppery clean smell. Great sillage and longevity. Good value. I associate it with suits and ties and evenings, but it could work any time. Can't speak to the newer product, but a great old school masculine smell when used in moderation.

Over the winter this really grew on me and I think it's genuinely great now. The spices in the first half hour are too sharp, do not put it on and get in a car immediately, it can be a bit too much even with one spray on the back of your neck. But the drydown is beautiful. It's not very complex, but it's very pleasant and yet out of the ordinary in todays context. When it's more than about 15°C outside, it can project too much and evaporate in a few hours, but in colder weather it lasts too. I received two funny reactions that imo both fit. First was "this smells partially like a grandpa and partially like a really hot woman" from a woman, second was "something smells like a tearoom here!" from a young teenager. Ignore the notes here. What I get is - a strong mixture of spices, slightly reminds me of amplified gingerbread - a mixture of florals that reminds me of oldschool shaving foam - a base of amber, patchouli and musk While the ratio of those changes, they all last the whole time, there's little development.

Something of an overlooked masterpiece, on a parr with more widely recognised classics of the era; perhaps the name and clinical packaging kept it down. We are lucky still to have it with us. Another example of a relatively ancient perfume which would be applauded if rolled out in a scrotty-looking bottle by a niche house, with a novel note tossed on top to make it less immediately pleasant; this is the direct forebear of Kerosene’s Copper Skies, and costs about 2% as much, for instance. It does, indeed, contain both green notes and spices, the latter in confrontational amounts; best applied from the splash bottle so you get it all over your hands and waft it around when talking. Fellow men and women of the world, we can only pray that the screeching eye of social media doesn’t fall on our beloved; there is a world where this becomes fashionable again, and the children ruin our fun.

I could imagine Tony (played by John Travolta) on the hunt for poontang spraying this all over his white suit before hitting the Disco floor busting moves in Saturday Night Fever. Sex Appeal came out in 1976 and the movie hit the theaters in 1977. Therefore, one can say Sex Appeal was the original "clubbing scent" with the intention of being a so-called "panty dropper." Although it never quite reached the fame as Jovan Musk (which still sells well today), it does smell very good. I wear it a few times a year, mainly for nostalgia. BTW it smells very close to Pierre Cardin and ZERO like Old Spice, so don't let the reviews fool you. If you are a fragrance collector and do not have the historic Sex Appeal in your collection. Then you are not a collector. Now, let's get ready to booooogie!!

1970's in a bottle and I fricken love it! Jovan Sex Appeal is at a time when men preferred to smell like men... And women preferred it that way! Long before Unisex was even a word Sex Appeal was king of seduction. Call it a dated and cheap drug store cologne all you want. This bad boy is still around today for a reason. And that is women still love masculine men that are rugged, hard working and driven, but yet supportive, kind and trustworthy. A man that is not afraid of being a man. That's the 70's in a nutshell. And that's Jovan Sex Apeal Sorry if this review is not political correct because it does not cater to unisex and metrosexual markets. Actually I take back that apology. I'll not apologize for being a man. And I'll not apologize for wearing the uber-masculine Sex Appeal.

I can't speak for others. All I know is the batch I received smells exactly like that dry, clove-ey, spicy/peppery/powderish "Mennen" or "Old Spice"-ish scent ... or whatever I remembered smelling on many grown guys that I looked up to when I was a kid. It's cologne, so longevity is only average. Sillage is moderate-plus at first, so go easy on the trigger if you'll be wearing this to the office or other confined quarters. This gets a big thumbs up in my book. Stupidly, the cheesy name turned me off taking the plunge on this for years. I didn't know what to expect. But how would I actually know for myself until I tried it. Glad I finally did. This is a winner for me and absolutely unbeatable for the price, especially if you like those vintage "manly" scents.

Considering this is probably the third or fourth reformulation of a forty five year old fragrance, I've gotta say: Not bad at all. And what I actually mean is pretty great for the eight bucks and change I paid for it. It suggests barbershop and Oriental simultaneously. That's a pretty neat trick. For those comparing it to Old Spice, you're not wrong. Though far from an actual smell-alike, the use of spices in both are more than just similar. I have this on right now, along with Old Spice Cologne, and vintage Pierre Cardin on various parts of my arms. It's closer to Old Spice, but not that far off from Pierre Cardin. Throw in a hint of Royall Spyce and you've got it. Reminiscent of all three. How does synthetic manage to smell this good?

I am astounded to see this one listed- ha! This was the very-first cologne that I picked out for myself as a teen in about '82- and I still have the old bottle, and it still smells the same as it did back then! I remember the first time sniffing the tester at the store, drawn by its (then-) racy title, and thinking: this is what I need! It's actually a nice fragrance. I wear it once in a very-great while- just to bring back those days: oakmoss, sandalwood, amber with a restrained touch of patchouli and juniper (maybe?), brightened with citrus, mystified with the faintest whiff of cloves and cassia bark. Quite delicious- still. I would classify it as a "spicy chypre". I have not smelled the newer reformulation.

Just received it today...9/9 2024......WOW !! At 62....I'm reverse engeneering my scent journey...as I'm tired of "influencers" talking about "Beast Mode"...and "Manly scents "...when they weren't even born when those words were created ! ...and tired of smelling like Willy Wonka ! ( You can look at my collection..tried most of them......most of wich I'm selling in Laval by the way..PM me ) Like I said...I'm returning to the ROOTS with Azzaro pour Homme, Pinaud Wood and Whiskey talc, Jovan original...etc ! This one is best described by SPNKr : A old time shaving cream ( Barbasol ? ) in a spray !! Love it.... right after a shower !!

I have 3 bottle's from batch of 1989/1991/2015- We often buy perfumes which we just buy for the sake of collecting. There are perfumes which are so bloody expensive that even iphone seems cheapo. But there are certain fragrances,whom we have grown up with. One of those easy going and fine fragnance is "sex appeal". I keep on wearing it thrice a month. And people having longvity issue please use the perfume along with its deo spray for enhanced longevity. And its so cheap that i wont mind reapplying it after 3 hrs (yes i always carry two perfumes at least,anywhere). A fine "known gentleman" fragnance. Cheers

This review is for a new version of the cologne spray. Forget about the stupid name and the cheap bottle. What you get here is a spicy and musky scent. It has notes of flowers, anise, orange peel, amber, sandalwood and a potent dose of musk. There's really nothing green about it. This cologne is quite new in my wardrobe, but it will stay there forever. For me, this is a gem and I'm very pleased I got it. It's the musk that stands out for me and today, half an hour after applying it, I asked a friend what he thought about it and his answer was "MUSK...aahhh, this smells like the 70'es". And he was so right

This is a warm, enveloping scent. I’d say it belongs in the same family as Lagerfeld Classic and Pierre Cardin Pour Monsieur. There is spice, an element of tobacco, maybe some orange. I don’t get any “green” - nothing Azzaro-y at all, for example. If you think in colours, this is amber. The name is stupid and does it no favours. It’s a sophisticated, comforting scent that costs pennies and smells like it costs many tens of pounds. People like it - but telling them the name is so embarrassing that sometimes I pass it off as something classier.

Blind bought and so glad I did. I was getting tired of all the "modern" unisex men's fragrances on the market these days. I feel my search is finally over for a 100% ALL man, manly, masculine fragrance that just smells... MANLY that the ladies will LOVE and not laugh at or turn their noses up to, not like a flower shop and candy shop violently collided with each other!! Did I mention that Sex Appeal smells MANLY? If there is a fault, It would be nice if it were at least EDT concentration, but for the cost, I can reapply throughout the day.

I wear this for my own enjoyment. The opening is a bit masculine- vintage barber shop spices that lay a bit bitter on the skin. The dry down sweetens it just right. I’m bathed in warm spicy chai tea. It is temperature temperamental- in the cold it stays a little more bitter & sweetens in warmth. It does last as a skin scent for a nice little while & it’s fun to decorate other short lived scents with from time to time... Simple citruses, white florals, orientals: they each play really nice with this one.

"Ooohhhh Jackie Blue...lives life from inside of her room.." This stuff is a trip. To clarify, I'm a 90s child, but a couple of sprays of this and that song is playing, and my mind goes to a time WLS-AM, wood paneling, stacking 45s and Delta 88s with cigarette burns on car seats. To me, this is pure patchouli for some reason, with oriental woods and cola-like sweetness. It sounds strange on paper, but captivating in real life. Pair with Jeans, T-shirt, and a mustache.

My most complimented cheapie perfume that women just seem to love. Everytime I’ve worn this spicy bomb elixir perfume I’ve been asked what are you wearing. Surprisingly never got that much attention from perfumes that cost 4 times the price of this gem. No wonder it’s a permanent one in my collection, and I always keep a fresh bottle of this sexy and classy man’s juice... it’s a yes for me always.

If you have Lagerfeld Classic then what the hell are you doing without this in your other hand? Basically shaving foam and aromatic green musk wedged in. Batch: 5030 from 30th January, 2015.

One reviewer said it best that it "Sex Appeal has a warmth to it hard to find in today's men's colognes." Sure it's cheaply made and probably can't easily be copied. However, Sex Appeal is a living legend many people have enjoyed for decades on the man in their life. That kind of cred takes time and can't be reproduced accurately.

This smells like a masculine and spicy coca cola. This is a great daily driver if you can handle the spicyness and sweetness. It is really complex when you put massive quantities on and at this point is does smell like Musk ravager. So if you want to know what that frag smells like just put 20 sprays of sex appeal and your set

Quirky name, 1970s font and cheap-smelling - how could you not love this fragrance...? I bought two bottles, one for me and the other for a colleague. We both loved our nostalgic olfactory journey. Not every fragrance has to be groundbreaking. Sex Appeal puts a smile on my face, and for only $10, it’s money well-spent.

I like it... scratch that, I LOVE IT!! 2 sprays on each wrist after a hot steamy shower and I'm good for 7-8 hours. Very strong in the beginning 3-4 hours. Most of my coworkers say they smell sandalwood and spice

While the performance isn't great at all, it is an olfactory memory of Magno soap from La Toja. The spicy drydown, almost synthetic, is a nice copy of that smell, which to me is very soothing and clean.

If Gillette made an EdT of their shaving cream in the red can, it would smell identical. That says everything you need to know about it. If "barbershop" scents do it for you, grab a bottle of this.

I had this scent when I was in High School and college (also the Sex Appeal for Women, which is not yet in the database). I intend to purchase it again. This is the ORIGINAL "spicebomb". PERIOD.

sexy, manly, spicey scent...when sprayed on the chest it creates a warm, comforting place where a lady can lay her head so she feels cosy & safe and in love with her hubby....

Very Nice for me. The projection works up to 2 to 3 hrs & Longevity up to 4 to 5 hrs on my skin, then it gets close to the skin. Some likes , some doesnt

Simply a classic. A bomb load of spices...simply seductive.....A must have as it does not cost much! Highly recommended.

When this fragrance was delivered to me, I wore it all day and the night I chose to write this review, I was watching Diamonds are Forever and I realised it was one of the worst Bond films. Sean Connery is just picking up a pay cheque and Charles Gray played it soo camp it was if Larry Grayson had stepped in to take over; it was evident he was just having a laugh with the role. Now... I’m about to go on a rambling diatribe about Bond but there’s a relatable segue. Anyway I was reminded of how when you look back there’s always an awkward transition between periods where prevailing styles and cultures and the current emerging zeitgeist meet. Its very evident in the Bond films, as they’ve never been good at leading (apart from the first four) and copying the zeitgeist culture in popular cinema the Bond films appear hackneyed. Diamonds are Forever looks lost as the rise of the cineastes and counter culture had taken hold at the start of the 70s. Here is Bond in a tux, in a casino in Vegas amongst all the velour and polyester clad waddling cud-chewing morons; looking like a ballerina in a mosh pit. Sex Appeal has that peculiar 70s signature of carnation and a weird spice blend that just I know Tom Ford has tried to replicate and modernise (in some cases successfully). This smells like a fancy chemists, run by an aged lithario, a ‘smoothie’ in white lab coat, repleat with a wry smile and a ‘handsy’ demeanour. I grew up thinking Brut and Old Spice were bad or ‘naff’ because of the associations of them being a punchline to jokes, but I honestly don’t think they are that bad now. Sex Appeal is in that same class. I will be realistic though this is not a scent you could say “If this had been made by X it would sell for 100” No. Nope not at all. I bought this online for £8.05. If this was made under any other brand; the best I could see would be possible double the price maybe £20. But that’ll be for the name of the designer alone. I had been meaning to purchase a bottle of this for some time, as I will wear scents that compliment the image I might have in my head that day. Some days where I feel like I need to show some chest hair, yeah, leave about four buttons undone on my shirt, whiten my smile, stuff a spare set of socks down the front of my flat fronted beige Farrah slacks, shine up those light brown loafers ...slip on some Teddy Pendegrass, Kenny Loggins, The Commodores and Teena Marie on Spotify and walk with an extra thrust in my step. I have a small collection of these scents that I save for those days that I will wear and personally enjoy. This stuff will not appeal to guys in their 20s, it won’t appeal to some guys in their 30s. Heck some guys in their 40s, 50, and 60s. This is not for people who wear stuff ‘ironically’ it won’t work like that. If you wear it you will be wearing it for yourself. Yes it called ‘Sex Appeal’ but it will have zero affect on women. Women will not be drawn to it, women will not compliment this at all (some may hate it), some may think it’s ‘ok’...but for me that’s perfectly fine, I’m not wearing it for you sister. This is *all for me*. I don’t care if people snigger and laugh, I’m not going to wear this to a special occasion; if I wear this and happen to be outside amongst people I’m fine with that. This is purely for your own enjoyment. I like that it’s unashamedly masculine, but in a slightly pathetic way. I like that it’s about as refined as a Full English, if Bleu de Chanel was an actor it would be Ryan Gosling in ‘The Notebook’ this scent would be Geoffrey Lewis in ‘*Every which way but loose*’. If released today; it would look like some pale imitation of an older fragrance...much like Diamonds are Forever everything about it looks dated and out of place, but it’s still part of greater canon. Would I recommend it? nnnnneeeeyeaaaah, kinda...well actually no...it’s not a fragrance that I would say you’d see stack up against the Sauvages, Bleu de Chanels and Le Male etc I would say don’t buy this expecting an uncovered gem; it’s a nice scent for personal enjoyment ...just remember ‘use it for good never for evil’ Rating: 7.7/10

This one was another blind purchase I made, after much research and read/watch positive reviews on the fragrance. Officially, it was released in 1976, along with a female version, which was discontinued. Sex Appeal has a complex composition, typical of the perfumes of the 70's, always very dense and with bottles that almost had mustaches (LOL). Joking aside, today the company just says that it is a fragrance made up of herbs and spices. But the official composition features notes of bergamot and lemon, on top; lavender, carnation, patchouli, sandalwood, and vetiver, in the heart; Amber and musk at the base. Do not be surprised if you smell it and swear that it has geranium and moss. This is because Sex Appeal is woody, spicy, mossy and somewhat aromatic. It's the old school type, a category that does not appeal to young people and, I dare say, not even the older ones, who no longer want to state their ages with perfumes that are called nowadays "for Grandpa". Although marketed as Cologne, it has a higher concentration than an Eau de Cologne. The box carries a fun slogan, which says: "Sex Appeal. Now you don’t have to be born with it". The bottle follows the current visual identity, which conveys what we call "cheap". But do not be fooled: even though the exterior is poor, its quality still impresses. On the skin, the scent goes from the sour lemon to the sensual musk, passing through floral and mossy nuances full of presence. It is a classic masculine scent that has the same style of others of the same era, like Gentleman (1974), Pierre Cardin (1972) and Giorgio for Men (1984). For me, it's a fragrance that rescues traditions and helps a lot, in case you no longer want to invest money in a similar fragrance of expensive brands, but would like to feel that kind of smell once in a while. Projection and durability are very good indeed. It is a pity that the current fragrance has some very artificial nuances, but this is also present in perfumes of prestigious brands, thanks to the famous reformulations. It is worth knowing, especially in the United States, where it costs around 10 dollars.

Great reviews here - none better than K1's! Shamus1 nails the scent's composition...this is truly a deep, earthy patchouli with sandalwood, 'warmly' spiced with rich baking spices, especially a dark, earthy clove note, an amber accord in the base along with musk (that's a bit dirty, in a good way). Cue the 70s Porn music and splash it on. Awesome. Nothing "green" to my nose either - except a little bite of herbaceousness in the patchouli itself. I have a Vintage Splash (4oz bottle) that I adore. I tried the latest spray in the store and it smelled close, but the patchouli was too heavy & smelled smoky/burnt upon application and then it faded to a light skin scent - rather odd. It did stay for a while, but I like to apply this by splashing it on...different vibe and feel. My old juice is very balanced and like K1 says...memories in a bottle! I watched that World Cup in '94! I love the old box and the marketing lines they print on it - cheesy as hell! They might as well tape a condom on the box and say "Wear With Caution". ;-) Jokes aside...this is seriously good stuff. My collection of Vintage Musks would not be complete without this. Jovan's line of musks are very different from one another. To have this, Vintage Musk for Men, Vintage White Musk and other great bottles from the 70's and 80's in my cabinet is just pure fun and you will not smell like everyone else out there. Wear a nice splash of Jovan Sex Appeal, a high-end T-shirt and designer jeans and your hair slicked back on a warm summer day (or throw on a leather jacket over the top in the cooler weather) - but just throw your attitude around with your scent. You will get noticed. Macho as hell...nothing that smells this good will ever go out of style. Period.

این ادکلن حداقل ده بیست برابر قیمت کنونی اش ارزش دارد. واقع مطلب من حدودا بیست سی سال پیش این کار داشتم که اصلا درکی از عطر نداشتم و در سال‌های اخیر که صدها ادکلن نیش خریدم دیگه فکر اینکه برم دیزاینر اونم جووان پنج هزارتومنی بخرم برام محال بود تا اینکه چندشب پیش به واسطه صحبت دوستی رفتم و به قیمت ۸۵۰تومن خریدمش یعنی ده دلار. واقعا شاهکاره و باورم نمیشه که همزمان قابل مقایسه با پغفیوم د امپایر آمبر روس، یاتاقان کارون و دهها کار دیگه از حیث نت های آمبر و اسپایسی ست.یه شاهکار تاپ که البته فصل اش باید پاییز و زمستان باشه. پخش و ماندگاری اش متوسط و نسبت به کارهای امروزی که حتی نیش هایی مانند هیستوریز د پغفوم مارکی دوساد ۱۷۴۴ در حد آبکی سه چهارساعت دوام داره، این کار خوب و حداقل سه چهتر ساعت ماندگاری با پخش خوب داره که فکر میکنم چون الان تهران هوا رو به گرمی میره شاید در پاییز و زمستان این پخش و ماندگاری خیلی بیشتر باشه و پرفورمنس کار افزایش پیدا کنه.منتهی ابتدا که عطر می‌زنید ممکنه اذیت کنه و راستش من تو آغاز اسپری کردن حس خفگی بهم میده منتهی یکی دو دقیقه بهش وقت بدید از اون سرکشی . ابتدایی کاسته میشه. در کل عطری ست واقعا شایسته و عالی. البته باید بگم قطعا برای سنین میانسال به بالاست مگر اینکه طرف بواسطه جور و جبر زمانه در جوانی پخته و پیر شده باشد. تیپ های رسمی قطعا بیشتر به این عطر میاد اما من بهید میدونم نشه با تیپ ساده کژوال هم پوشیدش و بازخورد نگرفت. هنوز هم عطرهای عالی بیشماری هست که با قیمت مناسب در دسترس هستند. ه‌

I am a "girlie-girl" woman and like Nyoka said earlier, I absolutely love this for myself. Jovan made a companion to this one, "Sex Appeal for Women", and I wore it back when it was introduced in the mid to late 70's. It was truly one of the most wonderful fragrances I've ever experienced and I gathered many, many compliments whenever I wore it. The fragrance lasted many hours and it just got better and better. And then... I couldn't find it any more and I moved on to other fragrances, and over time, pretty much forgot it ever existed. A year or so ago something tweaked my memory of it and began a search for the women's version and came up completely empty handed, not showing up anywhere for any price. I happened to stumble across the men's version today on the lower shelf, in a dusty box, and grabbed a whiff from an unsealed box.... Ahhhhh! Yes, it's a little different from what I remember the woman's version (but that was what? 35+ years ago?), but I really like the extra spiciness of the men's. The men's version smells just as good, if not better, than what I remember. Of course I bought it! I'm in Nirvana this afternoon!

Good for this time the autumn , I ́ve been using this once or twice a year , and I think it ́s done for now . Not that I don ́t like it , but it ́s all about experience , a few days go I tried it in a moderate dose and it was respectable, more heavily now and it became apparent the resemblance with the original Old Spice which I never appreciated and my mother hated to the point of offering me something else in exchange of the O.S. bottles ... My teenage daughter said it reminded her of some shaving creams ... both things are true ... With vaious interesting perfumes at hand , it ́s a little bit pointless tu use this instead , since I don ́t actually have experience of this at the time of it ́s launch , zero nostalgia attached ... But it ́s cheap and I understand those who may be fans. I also have Jovan Musk, perhaps I ́ll use it one or two times in february ...

Better than the musks, and I like the musks. Probably my favorite from Jovan. Warm, peppery spices, carnation, geranium, lavender, balsamic notes and woody notes, certainly some patchouli. There's several different types of musks, and they veer skanky. Definitely civet and castoreum. Very nice musky ambery fougere. You can tell the components are cheap, but it still smells glorious. I haven't tried any of the men's releases that this has been compared to. It somewhat reminds me of the current formulation of CK Obsession for women, but this is much lighter and more spicy-aromatic. The cheap woodsy, balsamic bases are somewhat similar though. The only real downside is performance. Immediately after I sprayed it I could tell it wouldn't last long, it's far too light. I was correct, this lasts maybe 5 hours. Smells absolutely fantastic for $10.

I first met with the fragrance agent, but the scent so familiar ... Typical 80s and 90s .... spicy, musky chords ... It reminds me of classic scents such as Krizia Uomo, or Lagerfeld Classic In you are a kind of "old school" barber shop atmosphere .... That sex appeal? Today, I do not think it's the fragrance category reflect the sex appeal st someone, if not older man is ...... When they began to manufacture probably it was a good choice of name .... Today, instead of "purity" indicator ought to or perhaps a "charming" ... In any case, very low cost and high quality fragrance for middle aged or older. Coty and maintain a reliable brand in past eras outstanding fragrances! Anyone who loves the "old school" perfume, a new member to the collection ....

That Coty is still selling it under this name and with the text on the box (in three different languages by the way - to make sure really everybody understands) shows a great sense of humor ... or absolute ignorance. If I hadn‘t known better I would have expected a nightmare fougere in a Sauvage Extreme Sports Ultra manner - but what you actually get is a surprisingly soft oriental nearly as virile as Opium (pour femme, I mean) or Coco Chanel. In fact Sex Appeal is just a bit dryer and darker and not as loud as those two huge successes in women perfumery of the 80s. An honest surprise it is - a wearable und enjoyable unisex perfume for just about 12 EUR for 88ml.

[revisiting after the better part of a year away] Look, forget the misleading name. Forget the fake advertising. Forget the unearned reputation. It's a pleasant spicy/green mix (much more spice than green) that won't run anybody off _IF_ you are careful with it. One spray, max, and it's fine in summer. A few more for when the temperature drops. The canned deodorant version is a very good compromise if you want the essence of the fragrance without the risk of going overboard. PS Just as some fragrances shift over time from female-oriented to more male because of style and perception changes, I can totally see a woman pulling this off today.

I agree with shamus1, I detect nothing 'green' in this juice. Sex Appeal is a 100% macho 70s spice bomb. This came out the year I entered the University, and it is a 'balls to the wall' man's fragrance. What is most appealing to me is that Sex Appeal is a truly masculine frag, yet it is not in any way overpowering (i.e., you can't overspray this one). It projects nicely, yet is not in any way obtrusive. It has 12+ hour longevity on my skin, and projects perfectly. It isn't a powerhouse frag (which I tend to gravitate towards), but I think it is one that anyone who enjoys spicy masculines should have in their wardrobe.

I bought it right after sniffing. This was my first major perfume purchase. I really enjoyed it. It does not feel good or perform good on hot sunny day. I did not know that. But when winter came again, it aligned perfectly. I would suggest to any newcomer, student who is new to perfume and want to explore the edge before diving into deep. Also, this can be a budget friendly gift to any friend or family (just careful with the name). I think this perfume is a 8/10. Not entirely on quality or performance, but for the price and spicy notes. Likable.

@madprofessor What utter and exceptional delusion, just for the fact that you own some faux-niche slop made by a literal who perfumer doesn't mean you know much of anything about perfumery. I get that you're probably young, easily influenced by tiktok reviewer and with underdeveloped nostrils. Sex Appeal is a wonderfully blended fragrance, one of the first oriental bombs to hit the european/american market and it still performs very well today. I will purchase another bottle just for the fact that you got filtered so hard by this scent. LMAO

Smells rather feminine and cheap. I wasn't impressed by it and neither was my wife, who made a stink face when she smelled my arm. ------ Update: On a whim, while in a Wal-Mart, I tried it again on my arm. For some reason it now smells better to me! Did I have a bad tester before or... what? Anyway, it's a nice spicy scent... with good longevity. I've come around to Tania Sanchez' way of thinking on this one. I now believe that this is one of the better drugstore scents. I don't smell anything "green" in this, either. It's all spices.
