Silky Rose

I just received both this one and 'Secret Amber' in the mail, and I have to say that I am impressed by both! 'Silky Rose' is not prominently "rosy" (as others have also stated), rather it is sweet and fruity- yet not overly so. Two noticeable notes not listed are orris and lavender, adding a very "clean", soap-like and just-slightly-powdery effect- but again not overtly- and keeps the fragrance quite unisex. The strongest note for my nose is orange-blossom, and underneath that cassis/currant, then rose, followed closely by jasmin sambac. I honestly don't smell patchouli as strongly as others seem to, but I do sense something like myrtle and cypress adding to the "clean" vibe. Overall, a very elegant and refined scent- well-done, smoothly-blended. 'Secret Amber' I absolutely L.O.V.E. It is something like a cross between 'Elton John Rocks' by Slatkin and 'Arso' by Profumum Roma: definitely tobacco-leaf, benzoin, sandalwood, a hint of smokey birch-tar, deep black vanilla, cocoa, cinnamon- one of those "near-gourmand-but-not" scents, but definitely oriental in character- delicious, sensual, mystical! No regrets. Get this one for sure while you still can! 14 Feb 2014- Received an 'Intense Oud' today. First of all, let me tell you (if you aren't familiar) that it is based upon a very-classic Arabian composition, traditionally centered upon rose-oudh-saffron. Jovan added a few subtle twists, however: the top is highlighted with bergamot and coriander seed, which sharpens the rose and saffron heart, which in turn melts into a quite floral-fruity oudh... which in turn is subtley tweaked with cassis to underline that fruitiness magnificently; this all rests upon the lower, woody/cedar-y facets of the oudh on the drydown, blended strikingly with frankincense and creamy musk. I have a few other examples of the rose-saffron-oudh combo in my collection- all slightly-different. My very-favorite is an itr produced by a niche house in Delhi; 'Intense Oud' comes very close to that seamless blending; almost on par is Swiss Arabian's 'Mukhalat Malaki', but definitely Jovan's rendition far exceeds the quality of 'Oudi' by Al-Haramain with its disappointing linear-ness. So, to conclude, Jovan 'Intense Oud' I find complex, sensuous, and impressive- especially given their proclivity to market to the masses with high-volume and low-markup, affordable to many. 5 stars. I can now see why stock of this one keeps selling out!

I received a bottle of this in a giveaway recently and I am so glad I did! Going back a year, I bought the trio of Jovan LE fragrances ; the Amber, the Oud and the Rose scents. As I don't really care for rose fragrances in general, I gave away the Silky Rose unopened as a gift without trying it. (I tried the others, didn't love them and ended up giving them away, as well). I should have tried the Silky Rose first; I love it! Although I feel a more fitting name to what I get from this would be "Candied Rose", I actually don't detect much rose in this...someone below described it as a "fruity incense"...that is EXACTLY what I feel. I don't get much patchouli in this, thank goodness! This is not a romantic or classic or deep scent; it's a "feel good" scent for me...brings back memories of my high school years in the 70's...carefree, happy, fun; Friday night in a bottle! When I'm feeling "old", I'll just spritz a little of this on and be transported back a few decades. I will be purchasing a couple of back-up bottles of this before they're all gone. EDIT: I got 3 more of them online...I hope I never run out!

On the opening a lot of red currant with jasmine. The rose is definately a background player. After a while the currant fades and the jasmine and neroli really take the stage. The rose is really not very evident throughout. Quite a lovely scent. Seems very well blended. Not a huge sillage monster. Subdued and somewhat elegant.

Short version: Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssss,excellent. Long version: Fruity rosey sweet with some almost Angel style patch in the background. Almost feels like a rosey summery Angel flanker, cool and refreshing but not without depth. Very nice.

Jovan Silky Rose is the next in line for my series of reviews about rose scents. It is easy to compare it to a Blue Girl Hybrid Tea. Blue girl doesn't have the absolute perfection of its parent Sterling Silver but it is much easier to grow with a higher frequency of blooms and is much more rewarding to the diligent gardiner with its fair share of rose show blue ribbons. As far as the scent goes, it is Jovan and it is musk. The Jovan Musk line of scents should be familiar to most who take the time to read these words. Surely, Jovan has to have one of the best selling fragrance lines ever produced. Almost every scent from the Jovan line has a signature musk DNA and this one is no different. Its Jovan musk with rose added as a flanker note. The rose is good and additive but like with all Jovan fragrances the musk is the star. I view this as a lilac rose because the white musk seems to intermingle with the rose and whiten it up. There is something almost pale and fragile about this rose compared with others and you almost feel that it is a scent that much like crystal has some brittleness and could break. It lives in the pale lilac version of a classic rose fragrance. Performance for JSR is excellent. Almost all Jovan scents easily give me 12 hours. Musk is long lasting on my skin and it seems to cling with me until I shower it off. I expect a drug store scent to give me 4 hours of projection and performance and this one easily exceeds the expectation. I find my nose to be sensitive to the musk and with this one, I have to wear less sprays. I imagine that some will find the rose fleeting and overwhelmed by the musk which is strong and long lasting. And all Jovan scents seem to submit to the parent note of the company. Value is also excellent. This came out as a limited edition 3.5 years ago. Its not hard to find a 3 ounce bottle of this for under $15 and if one were to look maybe $8 or less. Still, I do not think it is in production and prices are starting to slowly creep upwards. Even though Jovan mass produces their fragrances some have been discontinued, are hard to find, and have rising prices associated with rarity if you can find them at all. I expect drugstore scents to sell for $10 an ounce or less and this one is readily purchasable for under $3. It gets absolute top marks for value to the point of wanting to give it some extra credit for a final rating; and yet not doing so because Im certain it will become hard to find, will have skippy availability and prices will rise. As far as usage goes, sadly I have not used this one a great deal. I do not like to review fragrances until I have drained half a bottle and this one has to be well over 90% full. If I waited until I used so much, this might be a rare fragrance. The time to buy it should you like the notes is now. Still, I feel very familiar with Jovan scents and this is like most of them. Lots of musk and a dance of complimentary notes that whirl from product to product. I own probably 10 different Jovan fragrances even though this is not a favored house or in the drugstore realm of fragrance appreciation. There were 3 flankers released as limited editions in 2012 including this one, Secret Amber, and Intense Oud. And I cannot look at Silky Rose without hand drift to Intense Oud which I enjoy the best of the 3 and pull more than the others that I own. I own a backup bottle of Intense Oud and wear it reasonably often and probably will never need or own a backup bottle of Silky Rose. I have never met a musk based scent that I enjoyed in the summer and it is not a note that seems to agree with me when perspiration gets involved. So for me, I wear these Jovans almost exclusively in winter with perhaps a few chilly or rainy days here and there. Overall, I am going to grade Silky Rose out at 78. It is clearly above average and tiptoes into the like range but I do not think it quite gets to good. I know that I am being unfair to it because I really like the Jovan Oud better as well as a few other flankers from the line. It is really quite good but its relatives outshine it a bit. And of course musk is not my favorite note though I do respect it. One of the things that fascinates me about the perfume world is how trendy it really is. In the 80s you had Oakmoss perfumes charging out of the wood work. And in the 90s everyone was jumping on the cool water bandwagon with aquatics and citrus based fragrances rising with never ending cheshire cats of copy as if being waved into existence by the sea. These days it all seems to be about Oud. You have reviewers on youtube rolling their eyes and screaming to the heavens about how real men wear oud. Its over done. Its hard to tie ones shoes without tripping over 15 ouds. Friend, off the top of your head, how many oud rose fragrances can you name? Still going ? Yeah ... very good. Now how many musk rose fragrances can you name besides this one? There will be people that sniff and assume synthetic based on the price but you know what ... if we killed enough musk deer to meet all the perfumery needs of the world they would be an extinct species in a week. At least 99% of musk used in perfumery these days is synthetic and I imagine most Oud as well. And soon, almost all the Oud will be synthetic. Nobody in the designer or budget world has as much experience with musk or sold more bottles of it or really does the note better than does Jovan. I can point to a few niche fragrances that have clanked the musk note. If one were to sit down and think about it, this fragrance right here might very well be the best musk rose fragrance made and sold. If one were to like oud rose then a $200 bottle of Bond Signature or Oud Ispahan might be more to your liking. Regardless of price, Jovan Silky Rose might be able to stand toe to toe with most of the rose blended fragrances and claim best of class. I am not a huge fan of musk but you might be. At any rate, it might be worth your while to invest in a musk rose than in maxing the plastic for just another rose oud. It is different and has its own unique character and honestly is a fine scent. A best in class musk rose for $10 versus a best in class oud rose for $100 an ounce. Let me think .... When one thinks or visualizes roses, usually reds and pinks come to mind. A few might think of yellow roses or even whites. But the silvers and blues get pushed to the back of consciousness. These days oud roses get a lot of play in the fragrance world and scents are dark and brooding. But for those in the know. The sterling silver rose is arguably the best rose ever grown. Its perfect in bloom, form, fragrance, and beauty. Its an extreme challenge to grow but perfection if one can do it. Jovan Silky Rose is obviously a lot more mass market than Sterling Silver so I compared it to Blue Girl which is easier to grow and stunning in its own right but with a hint less character. Blue Girl is still a challenge and it doesn't bloom or repeat as much as most of the reds. But it has a rare beauty in its own right. There are wonderful stems produced from this flower that win ribbons in shows and the fragrance is divine. While most are thinking dark and red, Blue Girl holds to lilac and white and has a bit more richness of blue compared with its pale silver parent. Jovan Silky Rose is not a rose for lipstick and lovers but rather one for one's clan, friends, and relations. It stands apart from the red rose world of passion and embraces the comfort of familiarity and love found at home. There is something comforting about the Jovan scents that my Mom wore and that I have known all my life and I joyfully embrace owning a rose that is different than the rest of the many ouds that all compete for attention and space on the shelf. A perfect Blue Girl rose is pure beauty. Like all Lilac and Blue roses it is finicky for who it chooses to bloom and like. And perhaps musk holds itself apart as well. But there is something about a Blue Girl rose when it hits that outshines all the other reds, yellows, pinks, and whites that offer wealth of bloom. Many have sung the praises of blush, oud, and swarthy rose. But the rare heart that blooms blue, has wealth of soul.

If you have not tried this trio then please do so while you have the chance, you may even find yourself buying backups. Silky Rose - I am not a lover of rose scents but this one is quite nice. It is not overpowering or dry (does that make sense). I find most rose scents musky and this one is rather sweet. The longevity is incredible for the price, but that can be said for all three of them. Secret Amber - I will admit I have already bought backups of this one. I love AMBER!!!! And this is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. It is indeed powerful and long lasting, it easily lasted eight hours on my skin and much longer on my clothes. It is a comforting amber, warm and cozy. Amber lovers dont miss out on this one. Intense Oud - The wonderful Weegee mentioned all three of these to me and this is the one I was most skeptical about, seriously it is Oud. I admit to being ignorant about Oud because I was not all that familar with the note, so I had no expectations on this one. However, I must say I do not regret it. I do have to layer this with something a little sweeter, I tried Molinards Vanille and it worked well, because it just seemed masculine to me at first. Once it had settled in, it is quite nice and definitely different than the rest of my perfumes. It is worth picking up and giving it a try. Packaging aside, these are high quality scents for practically nothing. I am enjoying each of them immensely, and again thank you Weegee for sharing these with me. If it had not been for you these gems might have slipped by me. Hats off to Jovan for a job well done!!!

I purchased all three of these- Silky Rose, Intense Oud, and Secret Amber in the US online for about $12 each. They are 88ml bottles and labeled as cologne, but last quite long on my skin. The bottles are cheap in appearance, with plastic gold colored caps, but the scents are quite nice, and long lasting. -Secret Amber is my favorite, and I am in love with it. I feel it is my secret scent, not even listed on this site! So wonderful that I must shout and yell and tell all the wonderful people on Fragrantica how great it is. And so this is my very very first review. I could only find Jovan silky rose listed, so I will put my review of Jovan Secret Amber here. It is a strong amber on initial spray and feels a bit too loud with sharp benzoin and oud standing out. Could this be for men, i wondered? But just wait- the secret lies ahead-within 30 minutes it will have made my skin warm and sweet, not a trace of sugar, just the rich, heavenly sweetness that only amber can bring. My skin is now the prize, mild scent stays close to skin, natural only better. I wish I could bathe in it, have my skin ooze and become this. Could this treasure come from from a mysterious ancient cave in the east? That is what I will pretend when I wear it. Old fashioned amber and spices and woods, as done for centuries. No floral to my nose. Lasts for 6-8 hours. Devine.

What a great little treat of a perfume! I got the trio from eBay a few months ago and was neglecting this one, maybe thinking I'd wasted my $10 since it's not as sweet as the roses I tend to like. But I'm loving it in warmer weather. I'm so glad I got this one. It's not a soapy rose! It's not super sweet either--it's a mildly sweet, very light fruitchouli with class and aplomb. And perhaps a bit of powder. This and Secret Amber fill a nice little spot in my collection, for when I want to spray something on that smells really, really nice, not boring...but not overpowering either, and not serious or expensive or particularly attention-grabbing. Either of these two I'd love to have in a EDP or parfum concentration too. For me the intensity of the fragrance fades very quickly, which is part of what is nice about them, but the scent is nice enough that sometimes I want more longevity. Edit June 2019: I can't wear this one anymore. The opening is pretty but the drydown comes quickly and smells generic cheap to me. To be fair, I believe there are quite a few aroma chemicals that I'm sensitive to, that make a vast number of popular fragrances unwearable for me. Still love Jovan Secret Amber though.

I bought this along side Secret Amber and Intense Oud. This is by far my favorite of the three. I will be wearing this one a lot. Yes it's somewhat feminine and no I do not care. It's a waxy sweet patch rose combo and I adore those. The red current is a very interesting note as it has a sour quality to it that's very detectable. The sourness has a good balace with the sweetness of this fragrance. Rose, Patchouli, and Red Current are the stars. The projection is loud for an hour or two and then it dies down. The longevity is decent, especially for a cologne concentration. This is a nice cheapie until you can afford Miss Dior, Si, My Burberry, or Coco Mademoiselle. It's not a replacement but it will hold me over until I can get those. 7.5/10

I promised Wagner's Erda that I would post a review a long time ago when she sent me a sample and I am so sorry I am only getting to it now. Anyways, I love this scent and so glad she gave me that sample! To me it is a fresher alternative to Miss Dior (new). They are not extremely alike but they have the same vibe with the rose and patchouli. It's more playful and down to earth than Miss Dior, but it does share some of its elegance. While I wore the Dior while wearing a ballgown at a very upscale wedding, I feel like I can wear Silky Rose to less extravagant, yet equally important events.

frizzante accordo fruttato/floreale, senza la solita dolcezza dei profumi di genere, che si apre con una impressione freschissima di ribes e gelsomino. questa fase dura relativamente poco e tende a scomparire per assestarsi sulla rosa, leggermente muschiata e ancora fruttata, ed infine su sentori legnosi. non sento il patchouli che pure compare nella piramide, ma direi piuttosto che si tratta di una fragranza "rosa" di bibita, ben strutturata. per chi ama i frutti di bosco e la rosa non polverosa è un affare: costa poco ed il sillage è notevole. non male ma non è per me.

Whoa! This stuff is potent! A couple of sprays is more than enuf n lasted 12 hours on my skin! Tho i only got the red currants on my acidic olive complexion to me this should be called STRONG & SWEET CURRANT/PATCH cuz that's what i got mainly. So wanted that rose to come thru but on my it never did...darn it! Swapped it out.

Just got it! All I could and still smell is red current! It is a very summery fragrance. More fresh and fruity than oriental. I do not get oriental and unisex at all. It is feminine if not girly. It is starting to get a little spicy and slightly sweet, orange blossom is coming out too. I will update later on how it develops.

This starts as a sweet cotton candy rose and softens into a warm, patchouli dry down. I love it! It's a great addition to my rose collection, which had sadly dwindled of late. The lasting power is decent, too.

I was only able to find it for sale on an Arab Emirates web site (it shows up in google search). The price is around $35.

I blind bought a honkin' big bottle of this on Amazon. I really wanted to like it as I do love rose fragrances. this smells very synthetic and chemically to my nose. also very sweet in a sugary way I don't care for. I think I will be looking to pass this on to someone who likes it.

Well, there’s good news and there’s bad news. The bad news: it stinks. The good news: you can hardly smell it. I threw mine out.

The 2012 Oriental Collection trio by Jovan are very interesting to try...if you can find them. They are really nice for "drugstore" but are really difficult to locate anywhere since they were a limited release, mainly in the middle east. That contributed to my interest. Since Fragrantica only lists Silky Rose, I want to also mention the other two also. SIlky Rose is soft and rosy as the name implies but is more redcurrant than rose. It has a musky vanilla base. It smells nice but is not the type of scent I normally wear. But it is a pleasant fragrance and I can see where a lot of people might love it if these are notes you enjoy. Intense Oud was the one that sparked my interest in trying these. I mean come on, it is Jovan and it is oud...who wouldn't be curious? And to be honest, it actually smells interesting. It smells pretty middle eastern which may be a bit off putting for some. It has an earthy bite to it and a peculiar spicy and somewhat animalic note. May be unpleasant for some noses. It is drugstore so don't go expecting something comparable to a $300 bottle of something with rare agarwood....but you will be surprised at what an interesting fragrance it is for the price. It is pretty potent and wears about like an EDT on me although it is cologne. Saffron, lemongrass, labdanum, Turkish rose, patchouli and sandalwood. Dry down after a couple of hours gets a little weak and flimsy but what do you expect from something so inexpensive? Secret Amber...this is Jovan? Stuff they sell in drug stores? You would never know it if you were blindfolded. Ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, rose, vanilla and musk. It smells terrific. Again, the dry down later falls a bit flat but I have absolutely no complaints considering the price. My first purchase of the trio was the Intense Oud and I was so pleasantly surprised it prompted me to also buy the Silky Rose and Secret Amber. I figured I would have the first bottle to give away and didn't dream it would prompt me to buy the other two but I did. I think my favorite may actually be the Secret Amber. None of these really smell that "cheap" to me. But they are quite different from the original Jovan musks though so don't expect the classic Jovan musk smell. The Jovan Oriental Collection was really fun to try. They are pretty hard to come by because they had a very limited release, mainly in the middle east. So, if you can get your hands on any of them I would go for it. If you don't like them, don't worry about it. Store them in airtight container in a cool dark place and sell them in the future when they become a collector's item.

Review for Jovan's Intense OUD: My experience with Oud - however limited - leads me to conclude that this is not in any way intense. That's a good thing for an enthusiastic beginner with oud, but may still be too overpowering for someone not impressed by oud in general. And while others can tell you better what the exact notes are, I am glad to say that the whole composition smells fabulous! I'm a fan of Jovan, and there's a nice little musky touch to this fragrance strikingly reminiscent of the sweet and woody tones of Jovan Musk for men. Intense Oud is in no way only suited to men, however, as I will be using this drugstore beauty down to the last drops! A bright - if not downright loud! - opening leads to a very gentle drydown, with a balanced and intriguing counterpoint of notes. Sillage is light (following the initial blast) and reapplication may be necessary after 3 to 4 hours. Normally this might bother me, but the packaging clearly states this is a cologne concentration. Honest Advertising and Fair Pricing don't offend me in the slightest! My overall conclusion? There are doubtless better ouds in the world of Arabian oils. Much! But for a mild and well balanced "beginner's oud", this is the ticket! I treasure this bottle more than the price and simple packaging would imply. As a side note, Jovan's mild take on oud works beautifully with my chemistry and LAYERS WONDERFULLY with other Jovans and oud based oils! It can literally be as feminine or as masculine as you desire. Add Secret Amber and it becomes a sweet and woody wonder! Add Al Rehab's Mokhalat Dubai, and you have a blast of wood strong enough for the most masculine male. Truly versatile. The combination possiblities are endless. Silky Rose is the only one from Jovan's recent trio release that I have NOT tried! From all the info presented, she sounds like a nice fruitchouli. If she is anything like her counterparts, you'll be treated to excellent quality at rock bottom prices. The others in the trio - Secret Amber and Intense Oud - are genuine beauties. I think that those who love Amber will be impressed by Secret Amber, and the same goes for Oud lovers and Intense Oud. Both are a good representation of their names, with the exception that Intense Oud may only seem intense to Western noses! :D Get your hands on these when you see them.... they're practically 'drugstore niche'! UPDATE ! So now I have tried Silky Rose - thank YOU, Luna! - and find myself suitably impressed. She is not as sticky sweet as the majority of fruitchouli fragrances, while also Not falling into the powdery or tea rose range. In short, a fresh rose scent with more than a hint of currant. On some the tart accord will be stronger than on others, owing to chemistry issues. This may account for the differences in opinion as to the sweetness potential. But as newer rose scents go, a beauty! One thing more deserves mention.... these Jovans layer together like a DREAM! :)
