La Liturgie des Heures

I'm kind of crushed. I'm in love with this perfume, but it only lasted about an hour on me and didn't project at all. It's a lovely frankincentric fragrance, certainly a churchy scent. I see a lot of comparisons to Cardinal in particular, but you could easily compare it with tons of other similar churchy fragrances. They all have their subtleties. This one is delicate and serene, like a bright, cozy chapel rather than a huge, cold cathedral. For me, the feelings and imagery are along the lines of Relique d'Amour and Plein Jeu III-V. Those are more lemony, I'm just talking about the ambience, not that they are identical fragrances. In La Liturgie, the frankincense is sharp and piney. Definitely has a green feel to it, like mass held in a forest. I notice a pleasant sweetness. I like that this sweetness isn't creamy, it's more along the lines of fresh sap or fresh maple water. Clean and clear. The only other time I have smelled this beautiful note is in Guerlain's Winter Delice. I would still be very tempted to purchase a bottle. It might perform better with a strong spray. It's rare that I say this, but I love the scent so much that I might actually be ok with frequent reapplication.

Koku olarak gerçekten tütsüyü sevenler için oldukça güçlü. Ben pek bu şekilde kullanılan tütsüleri sevmesem de açılışını beğendim. Orta notalarda hoşuma gitmemeye başladı. Selvi kendini iyice gösterdi. Bana karanlık bir hissiyat veren bu nota ile kokumuz bana yanan bir ormandan gecenin bir vakti ve bir başıma kaçıyormuşum hissi ile yayılımına devam etti. Sonlara doğru ise, oldukça kremsi oryantal notalar ile kapanışı yaptı. Kapanışı da selvi olmasa sevebilirdim. Ancak selvi(cypress) ve tütsü(incense) notalarını tanımak için oldukça referans yapıda. I bought this flavor(perfume) during my passage in bets in the new perfume shop Jovoy, I tested some big flavor(perfume) but that there transported me there where the description plans him(it)! I really travelled, the promise had! A feeling of presence without overflowing(brimming) strength! I am not enough affuté for descrire the various note olfactive present (I invite to make him(it) for the "noses" of the site!) but for those who likes(loves) the sparfums with a soul, an almost religious sense(direction), me I was then touched why not you? French version: j'ai acheté ce parfum lors de mon passage à Paris dans la nouvelle parfumerie Jovoy, j'ai testé plusieurs grand parfum mais celui là m'a transporté là où le descriptif le prévoit! j'ai vraiment voyagé, la promesse était tenue! Un sentiment de présence sans force débordante! je ne suis pas assez affuté pour descrire les différents notes olfactives présentes (j'invite à le faire aux "nez" du site!) mais pour ceux qui aime les parfums avec une âme, un sens quasi religieux, moi j'ai été touché alors pourquoi pas vous?

La Liturgie des Heures by Jovoy Paris can be summed up in two words: church incense. It captures the solemn, smoky stillness of an old cathedral—cold stone, whispering silence, and drifting trails of frankincense. Longevity is decent—it lingers gently for several hours without overwhelming. This isn’t a scent for everyday social wear, but it’s perfect for moments when you want to be alone, to focus, or to disconnect. La Liturgie des Heures is incense for the soul—dark, quiet, distant, cold and contemplative.

La Liturgie des Heures from Jovoy was my recent purchase after re-testing a sample I had. This smells exactly like in catholic church when they burn incense and I love the smell since little kid. This perfume is “one of those” that bring me back to childhood memories when I was visiting church with my grand-parents during Xmas (dark & snowy outside) and there was a special process when they burn incense a lot and walk all around the church. After initial spray you will spot Cypress that is followed immediately by all resins (incense, olibanum & myrhh). That’s it – just dry churchy incense 😊! I don’t need more. Projection is strong but after 30min it settle down. Longevity is intense 3-4hours then it became more skin scent. I personally love the fragrance and it’s closes to church incense to me and bring all the memories. Definitely masculine and cold weather fragrance.

There's something so wonderfully austere about incense. It's rich and somehow pure, and I love how La Liturgie des Heures has managed to hold on to that. It has captured a sense of austerity without feeling simple or without depth. I immediately fell in love with it when I first discovered incense fragrances for myself, but I kept getting distracted at the time by a bunch of bells and whistles. Having come full circle I now appreciate it all the more for its clarity of thought, straightforwardness and wearability. La Liturgie des Heures is an introspective, contemplative companion, rather than a piece of performance art. Which isn't to say it lacks character. Rather the opposite is true. But it's not trying to embellish incense, and instead clears your palate. It's a place of meditation you can carry with you.

Wow! Love the opening of this fragrance straight up cypress and olibanum and you pretty much know what you're going to get for the remainder. Yes it's a gorgeous incense fragrance along the exact same lines as Heeley Cardinal, Montale Full Incense and CDG Avignon. If you like any of the aforementioned fragrances then this will float your boat too, luckily I have samples of all four and have tried them side by side to identify differences and there are some very subtle differences. I have to say I might be imagining it but find this a touch fresher and has a different opening too notes. LLDH is of extremely high quality. Non of these have huge lasting power on the skin but do very well on clothing(as most scents do) I found this one to be much the same. I love it...but then again I love the others too!

Oh my. I had avoided this fragrance based on the descriptions. Coming from a Catholic heritage I confess (pun intended) that attending mass was probably not highest on my list of "exciting things to do" when I was growing up. So deliberately dousing myself with something that reminded me of a full-on Latin mass with the frantically swinging incense seemed to be a little perverse. I was wrong. Yes this perfume immediately transports me back to those days in churches and cathedrals, but it evokes a feeling of spirituality and peace. A far cry from the ennui of my youth indeed. LdH is simply magnificent. A fabulous incense fragrance that I get glorious and evocative wafts of throughout its 5 to 6 hour lifespan. A very surprising big love from me.

On first spray this is my Catholic grade school, Wednesday morning weekly mass, dark wood confessionals. Or a somber Easter service with morning sun highlighting the plumes of smoke coming up the aisle, spring chill in the air. Both scenes are cold to me, despite the incense being so warm. This perfume softens considerably and becomes a skin scent on me after about an hour or so, but that initial hit... Oh boy, it’s addictive to me. Somehow both comforting and a little sexy even? Probably something to unpack in there, lol. I can’t really imagine wearing this in too many public spaces, but I’m going to wear it to bed until my decant is gone.

How I love the opening of this beautiful creation by Jovoy... This is one of those fragrances where it’s not really worth focusing on sillage and longevity—those are outdated concepts here and don’t quite apply. Liturgie is a (short) olfactory journey that opens with a FANTASTIC, ultra-realistic clerical incense: beautiful, deeply evocative, almost meditative. Gradually, it evolves into resinous nuances with greener facets, before settling into a soft, barely whispered musky drydown. On my skin it doesn’t last more than about 3 hours. Still, it’s one of those perfumes that feel genuinely good for the soul. Recommended.

Smells exactly like decompressing in an empty confessional after the incense thurible has swung by. Absurdly realistic and familiar Catholic church scent. This is a safe blind buy if you love incense scents and Catholic churches but otherwise it might be disconcerting. The opening is a bit odd on me. I get this strange sour note but it quickly mellows into the familiar incense. I personally love this scent. It's a bit spooky and haunted, which I love. My Catholic dad loves this scent. He thought it would remind him of all the funerals he attended as an altar boy but he finds it really uplifting.

This gives me a combination vibes of a gothic church alongside with a moroccan spices market. Super elegant.very deep and conceptual.non linear, beautiful and dark. Mild amber and woody notes mixed with smokiness and spices is what I get from it.Spiciness and smokiness is overpowered here.perfectly blended. After 4th successful fragrance from this house, I decide to blind buy "La Liturgue". It's strong like from the start and love after that. When you pay $100 for this kind of quality, you must be happy. I don't want my incense fragrances to have huge projection and longevity. It's average in terms of performance and ideal for me. opening is green and little bitter Mid is solid, great myrthh and incense. Cypress is also very noticable, but not dominant. Sadly I can't smell any Labdanum. Drydown smells just like church on sundays

I have been looking for the smell of the wooden benches and structures we can find inside a church for quite a long time and this is it! To me, this one is the most photorealistic church you can get. I prefer Diptyque’s L’eau Trois that I find more pleasant and wearable for the outside world, but this one is a wonderful intimate fragrance that brings me back to the inside of an old European Catholic Church, with a focus on the incense-infused wooden furnitures. A perfect bedtime fragrance.

My partner bought a travel spray of La Liturgie for me a couple of years ago. I've been saving it because I hate to see the end of this lovely fragrance. But La Liturgie does not last long on me, and we have both Avignon Comme des Garcons (a bit more woody than La Liturgie) and Cardinal James Heeley (a bit more spicy than La Liturgie). I've decided to use up my travel spray over the next few days while I know it's not expired. I will be smelling amazing the whole time. 🦋🧡🦋

A fantastic lemony frankincense fragrance, that I rank on par with Heeley Cardinal and Armani Bois d'Encens. Unfortunately it will become a tad too sweet for my tastes after a couple of hours, probably because of the myrrh, labdanum and for sure some fir sap. Still, a great option for a churchy incense, but I personally would rather stick to my Montale Full Incense, that stays on the dry side, performs better, for less than half the price of the Jovoy. Colder days, 30+

Fragrance that evokes remote mystical pagan, rarefied, and mythological atmospheres, nothing to do with perched remote monasteries and dusty Gothic sacristies. This enigmatic fragrance takes us back to ancient temples on whose sacred altars solemn incense, Jeddah frankincense and enveloping myrrh resins burned, exposed to the air and to the freshness of green notes. A reassuring, clean and mystical fragrance that comforts the spirit and soul.

Initially I picked up a fruity note with incense. But after 20 minutes it mellows, and I find myself loving both phases. I pick up a sweetness throughout. On my skin this is a strong performer. The only thing left to say is that this is the most beautiful incense perfume I have ever smelled, I simply love it. My sample is from lucky scent, a dauber vial. I can only imagine how wonderful La Liturgie des Heures is when sprayed.

I've been sniffing my wrist incessantly after few sprays of the tester I received from Oli Marlow at Jovoy. The opening is incredible. Dried fruits, incense - and is a combination makes me weak at the knees every single time. Furthermore it is a long lost twin to Serge Lutens' - Fille en Auiguilles, one of my favourite ever scents. I will be buying a full bottle.

a church incense but not the one that comes out during the liturgy by the priest's burning-incense. but it is that wonderful smell that is felt in an empty church. smell of old church woods smell of the confessional, smell of the church benches. smell of church, this describes the perfume perfectly. 9/10 one of my next purchases. excellent performance

This really smells exactly like an old cathedral to me. It’s got lots of incense and I also smell an almost-woodiness, like a church pew that has been in the church for a long time and has soaked up all the incense that’s been burned there over the years. It’s not for everyone but it definitely is for me!

love love love this one. absolute truther of this one even. la liturgie des heures is in fact my comfort scent, and it helps me if i feel down. the love rating is not enough, this needs higher. 14/10 amazing. update: wearing this for my cosplay of a certain cultist character who is very dear to me

an old church or an old monastery where religious services were held many years ago. greener and woodier than other incenses but for the price the performance is low. But perhaps it is correct that it is not intrusive compared to others. It pulses little but has excellent longevity. rating 7/10

A really elegant take on incense that balances out the formal aspects of an incense such as Avignon with some really natural and deftly applied green fir notes. This takes it closer to one like Zagorsk but a more refined version. If you enjoy incense frags, this could be a must buy for you.

When I wear it I feel like a pale novice wandering at night through the corridors of an imposing Gothic cathedral. A perfume that recalls an elsewhere where everything is still, immutable, silent, secret. Together with “Avignon” by Comme des Garçons, the liturgical incense par excellence.

I really liked this churchy incense, smells like burnt wood, lit incense, a very light citrus. I overall loved it tbh, even though I could imagine not everyone having the same reaction. I think this works best a night, with dark gothic clothing and silver jewellery. On my wishlist fs :3

Agreed with consistent previous reviews regarding the church reminder, the incense and lemon notes, and the calming solo experience. Should also be worn on days when the world you are about to enter feels like it is about to be big / bad / ugly. This can self-tame you in said world.

Realistic church incense with cold cypress and a rich, toffee-like amber. The projection is intimate but daaang this fragrance smells good! Nostalgic church smells with a green note that makes it feel edgy. Perfect for quiet moments of reflection.

This is stunninnnnngggggggg. The incense is definitely there, very "churchy" and is everything I wanted this to be, but it also wears very light with something sort of fizzy/sparkly, evocative of gin and tonic. I couldn't love this more.

Smells exactly like a Coptic (Oriental) Orthodox Church for me. It's the most accurate Church smell so far, even more so than Avignon from CDG. It smells like incense infused with brown wood.

This is beautiful and nostalgic. Singular, effervescent, resinous myrhh. This is not a smokey incense, but a gently powdery and translucent one.

La Liturgie des Heures (Store test, Skonx Central World) We have just had Jovoy here in Thailand. Jovoy is one of my respectable, I will to collect something for this brand. Like, at least one. At first visit, I go full blind. I don’t look at fragantica. I don’t what to have any thought on it. I like half of its offering.. but.. La Liturgie des Heures.. catch my attention the most at first visit of scent. Wried.. because if any of all perspectives I can think of, true incense fragrance never be in my redar. But I do enjoy any smoky fragrance in general. I keep come back to this. But when I tried classify using knowledge I know. I could name a fews I would love to buy. I left the store. A day later, one of my dear friend of mine. Told me that he think of me, when he sniff this one. I don’t know what to reply. Because, It catch my attention from very first moment too... To revisit. ===== The day after, I revisit Skonx today, should have done skin test actually... I own a bottle of Goutal Encens Flamboyant, I bring it out to apply yesterday. Yes, it is recall similarity being both fragrance are incense fragrance. I hope that Jovoy one is a bit denser, but with actual wear and late comparison, side by side. I don’t find any superior side than Goutal one. If there a point I can point out. It would be emptiness quality that similar to Dior Newlook. Somehow, after applied on skin. It feel empty... This one, doesn’t spicy as Goutal one. However, being the similar greenish incense profile with fir / balsumic quality. I hornestly think Goutal slightly do it better because of melody in scent arrangement, slightly warmer. And little more pepperier. There was a little life behind Goutal Encens Flamboyant. La Liturgie des Heures, as name suggest even life is muted... Drop from assessment ... ==== Extension 1 on December 27, 2024 Today, I wear Goutal Encens Flamboyant. Sudden, I think of La Liturgie des Heures (for short: LLDH) again. Not in the manner that it is familiar but it sort of recall something. Encens Flamboyant, I do notice the red berry fruit undertone know. Not so strong, softly remind of Geranium / Citronellal. I take a quick look for definition of "Flamboyant"; there is secondary meaning "of or denoting a style of French Gothic architecture marked by wavy flame-like tracery and ornate decoration."; It also means dancing fume of flame. And that's why there is red undertone in Encens Flamboyant. The berry represent a burning flame on incense.. ..... In LLDH by Jovoy, there is barely this aspect show up in the blend. Barely. It dominate by the pine green fir, and labdanum/olibanum concoction that smooth. Surrounded by thin veil of smooth musk (no animalic) is fume manner. At long last LLDH is more substantial offering compare to Goutal one. Thicker than Encens Flamboyant but really smooth out, give slight more authentic experience than Goutal. It is really good blend. The point; and I believe this is a point for people who love incense in general. That LLDH doesn't really smell like true incense.. There is something off. This is still pretty much feel like incense-fragrance (Avignon). And for people who looking for true incense scent, will think it is slight perfumy. Well this is Jovoy anyway, a line up for fine perfumery. It wear more like an incense fragrance, hang in there, between a realm of incense and realm of fragrance, realm of general fragrance and artisan. People who generally leans to fragrance-fragrance : I believe will prefers Goutal one as slight sweet berry tone lift up the fragrance marginally. And People who like most true to life : I believe will really enjoy Reve d'Ossian by Oriza L. Legrand. That's the most true to life incense so far. ===== Brought on January 18, 2025 I am thinking; I am baptizing in the realm of Incense fragrance now. Funny, to thing I start venture this realm almost two year ago and now I become my main olfactive I would love to constant wear. When I need peace. It starts from Caftan, YSL; then Mortel Trudon which I say I would barely wear. "There would be entirely segment who enjoy these kind of scent." Now I am one of those people, after covering with strong, lustful fragrance. Discover the truth and face reality. I think Incense fragrance is really calm realm. Enough with historical talk. LLDH is really cocooning piney incense scent. I have never smelled Catholic mass in my life nor being a christian. I personally registered "Incense" more in Hindu manner "Nag Champa" or Roasted Sandalwood as Buddhist Manner. But if my assumption is correct. I believe this is smell like your skin when covering catholic mass. Olibanum Resinoid and Lite Sticky Myrrh. Sweet and Balmy. It is not like you are walkable catholic incense, you are covered in the mass. Sticky sweet skin; green fresh piney stick on you. It is really cocooning piney / Olibanum scent. The scent end in 6 hours post wear but during the wear. The warm quality of it. make peace within myself. I can pretty much make peace with incense now. Only Cardinal by Heeley left that on my way and I could secure this realm for good.. ... ... .. . Should I try being closer to the lord?

This is one of those scents that I adore but have to be in the mood to wear. When the mood is right it's simply perfect. The scent of mass incense is something that has always brought me comfort, even since I've left Catholic school and religion behind me. Liturgie de Heures is where I finished my hunt for a Catholic mass incense scent. Avignon was great too, but has too much of a typical incense sticks vibe, whereas LdH comes off much more solemn. Cardinal has the warmth and glow of votive candles amidst the incense, but no tenacity. Liturgie de Heures opens with chilly greens, crushed pine needles in the snow. It is a clean incense in that it has a kind of purity to it, this is Christmas mass in the dead quiet of a white winter. Naturally it is packed with frankincense and myrrh but the myrrh is never really sweet. The cypress, very present in the opening, dies down to a mild presence after the first hour or two.The mass incense of my childhood was a combination of resinous sweetness and fiery spice, smooth and pleasantly cloying, wrapping itself around your senses like a blanket. Liturgie de Heures does miss that. There is no fire and brimstone in this incense, just a quiet, persevering peacefulness. For these reasons it is wonderful. Just right for cool Decembers and for settling disquiet. It may be one of many incense scents, but it may just be just the right fit for another as it is for me.

The branches and leaves of pine/cypress/juniper has just been freshly woodchipped. Or maybe you just climbed the tree itself and got a branch slapped in your face. It's sharp and acidic. Someone is burning a very resinous log in the background. It's probably march or april.. the ground isnt dry yet. Dusk is almost over (the sky is a cold blue and your eyes are slowly adjusting) and the dry cold of the night is setting in. Home is still a 10 minute walk away, but it's peaceful. I think there should be a second axis to the "masc - fem" spectrum that is "candle - perfume". I love this scent so much -- it reminds me deeply of my childhood, growing up in a piney mountainous forest area. But at the same time, this is absolutely not a fragrance I imagine any character wearing. This is only the smell of a space to me. If I could scent my whole house with this, I would. But I am referring to the scent I'm picking up on my skin - it's deeper and more resinous than when sprayed on paper. On paper the pine dries down into a very astringent smokiness, and there is hardly any of the amber warmth to it.

The liturgie des hores is an incense fragrance with a scent of ecclesiastical, cathedral or liturgical style, as you wish to see. The aroma fits within the style of CDG Avignon, Odin Tanoke or Heeley Cardenal, being quite close to everything Avignon, with some differences: The entrance feels floral-fruity and somewhat sweet, this opening is very pleasant but lasts very little. Immediately a strong note of cypress is united to a generous but little dense incense, not at all costly, with a very balsamic and smoked effect. This cypress takes you from the interior of the church and takes you to a cloister, outside surrounded by trees and forests. Surely this church is in a natural zone, with vegetation, mountainous, quite far from the noise of the city to be able to meditate with tranquility and tranquility that is what transmits this fragrance. The very balsamic drying by myrrh is quite soft and very close to skin with a rather light, pleasant and wearable aroma. The duration is good, without being excellent and projects well the first hour, then it is appeased. Rating: 7

Quite beautyful incense and coniferous fragrance reminding me somewhat Hinoki by CdG. Especially at the beginning when I smell raw olibanum resin and balmy, cold and fresh cypress note. This stage is unfortunately of rather weak sillage. Drydown is much stronger in projection, but no suprise in that, it is pure labdanum and that's the way labdanum behaves - here it's slightly sour, thick and oily, kind of like in Norma Kamali's Incense. Nice, but I prefer olibanum stage. The name "Liturgy of the hours" clearly suggests a churchy fragrance, but I don't see it that way. Most certainly I don't see any churchy association in corniferous olibanum note. However labdanum brings me some images of deep, old catacombs from the early age of christianity. Anyway, this is not catholic catherdal type of fragrance like Avignon or Cardinal.

I've had relatives, living in the country -in the previous century- way, WAY up in the north (with names like auntie Angel, auntie Bear), whose cellar and sometimes even cupboards smelled like this: ancient books, dust, mothballs and more dust. Interesting, if you like that kind of thing..., challenging for sure..., but to call it fresh???....... O__o And this comes from yours truly, who thinks Ambre Sultan and Serge Noir are fresh perfumes. I'll give it another try soon, but I wonder if I will ever be able to erase that stained black&white (or should I say: yellow&brown?) photograph from my memory, while wearing La Liturgie des Heures. I love to go to to the church and listen a liturgy. Of course, the smell of incense is associated for me with spiritual purification and elevation, with an inner calm and focus on thinking about "ethereal", etc. ))) In most cases the La Liturgie des Heures Jovoy Paris after a very short green-alcoholic beginning opens as ALMOST monoaromatic incense perfume. Could have sworn this was heavy on ambergris - there's something very odd at one end of the incense brazier, a sort of funky-feet, singed-organic smell that's extremely distinctive. Super resinous, smoky, mysterious, dark - liturgical indeed - but a little too thick and heady for me. Fascinatingly filthy but somehow makes me feel a shade uneasy, in a way that most other church-incenses don't. Pretty linear and longevity is not nearly as prolonged as all those rich aromatics might make you think. Good for a meditative, deep-breathing interlude, but it didn't waft me a to a heavenly trance.
