Agarwood

I feel Japanese incense soul in this one. like Temples, my grandmother’s house, funerals... In my opinion, I think all the incense-based perfumes on the market are rooted in continental religious concepts such as “Eastern religions,” “Western religions,” and “the church.” (I haven't actually smelled every single perfume, so I don't think this is entirely accurate, but...) Personally, I believe that in Japan (a unique or weird? country) religion has become quite intricately woven into the culture. In particular, there are many households where Shinto and Buddhism are blurred together to the point where the boundaries between them have disappeared. So even when we simply talk about “incense,” I believe that for Japanese people, the scent isn’t specifically Western or Eastern—there’s a distinct concept of “Japanese incense.” Despite its affordable price of just around 5,000 yen ($35), I feel that this fragrance does a remarkably good job of recreating the impression of incense that I, as a Japanese person, have in my memory.

I find it to be a very calming tea like frankincense that kinda smells like it would be the dry down of something far more complex but with the intensity of it being fresh and not dissipated and quiet like a perfume would get by the time it smells like this. I always love a woody dry down and wish I had something that mimicked that smell in the opening but most purely woody scents don’t really do it for me as they lean way too masculine. Even though woods are my go to scents I like them when they have a softness to them with florals or whatever along with them. So this kinda hits a spot not many do with it’s masterful blending. It’s also perfect to mix with other things. Such a versatile and reliable creation I kinda only bought it bc I adored my sample and it was on sale and I kinda made a mistake bc I didn’t need it and I’m addicted to spending money, but it’s been put to really good use regardless so yay!

This is a love for me, mostly for sentimental reasons, though the scent (spicy cedar + Japanese incense) is spectacular. I purchased this during a trip to Japan to be my scent for the whole vacation, so I could revisit whenever I wanted. I bought it for a mere ~$30 USD at Tsutaya Books and wore it for two weeks straight traveling across the country; through Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, through coastal onsen towns, napping on tatami mats, salivating over sizzling yakiniku; missing trains, anxiously; Shinkansen-hopping, desperately; bonding with an elderly small town karaoke bar owner via Google Translate, savoring train station katsu curry in Osaka (best I had all trip), sweating/panicking in Shinjuku Station, devouring my body weight in yakitori and Mega Highballs ordered from an iPad in Tokyo (iykyk). All these memories smell to me of Agarwood.

The most beautiful wood! I can’t stop smelling my wrist omg. It brings me in a quiet wooden temple - clean wood, light encense. I can feel the smooth wood boards under my feet, the atmosphere is calming and so beautiful it’s almost romantic. I love this and if it were more feminine of a scent I’d buy a full bottle. Now wanting to buy this for the men in my life. Also this is probably a super weird and nerdy remark but if you played Pokémon Gold/Silver as a child: this somehow reminds me of the Sprout Tower, I guess this is what it would smell like!

A lovely translucent sandalwood with sweet orange and cinnamon. Not really an oud fragrance at all the name is misleading. This is a nice masculine (unisex) counterpart to Guerlain Samsara or Jean Patou L'Heure Attendue. Much more simplistic and unisex than those fragrances are but would be an excellent counterpart to those. A lovely slightly sweet and softly warm spiced powdery wood.

This is such an easy reach for me. It smells exactly like my favorite agarwood incense sticks from a tea shop called misstea. It's warm but clean, too, which makes it so effortless, genderless, meditative. It's the kind of fragrance that will never be in my top five but I always want it in my collection because sometimes nothing else will do.

This unlocks memories for me. It smells just like visiting my family's homes in Asia scented by red and yellow incense sticks. Jscent does a great job of capturing the feel and vibe of a particular concept using different individual notes. It's very nostalgic and one I will keep in my wardrobe always.

It smells exactly like Jinkou Incense. Very comforting and relaxing. However, to my nose, it smells a bit like Vicks in the drydown. I love wearing this before going to bed. Scent: 7.5/10 Projection: 8/10 Longevity: 8/10

This is not "Agarwood"(in Japanese Jinkou), but it smells very nice. It smells Japanese incense, so it reminds me of temples in silence. Really beautiful and really affordable.

Really nice sandalwood fragrance. Hums nicely. Purchased when in Japan. Straight unisex on the dial.

This is too incensey to be a relative to wonderwood. Wondwood is very bitter/vetiver based which is more similar to encre noir imo. This to me heavily resembles Jaisalimar with its heavy cinnamon and sandalwood/incense vibe! This would be a love for me if it wasn’t for the performance being laughably bad. Sadly It doesn’t project at all and only lasts about a hour before it’s gone without a trace. This has got to be the worst performing frag I’ve ever tried. With that being said the agarwood/orange/sandalwood accord is very intriguing and beautiful while it’s there . I just need this to be 2x stronger!

Don't let the name give you the impression that oud has anything to do with this fragrance, as it does not. The composition comprises plenty of cinnamon, sandalwood, cedar, and orange peel. The base notes are soft and translucent, as is the case with many J-Scents, giving it any airy feel. It wears like a sheer cloud of gently spiced, meditative incense.

Very photo realistic woody scent. Processed dark wood though, not outside forest like. I don't really smell the cinnamon in this, just wood. Very unisex. Light to wear for a woody scent. Bit of an impulse buy for me when I was on holiday in Japan.

Good longevity, could work on the projection, and the scent? Like someone down here said, a relaxing frankincense that you smell from temples but in a good way. Love it. 8/10. -2 points because of lack of projection.

Woody, slightly soapy clean Not much oud, but it's a very safe clean and polished woody scent Has a hint of powderiness and some spice from patchouli It could be a nice and well rounded every day fragrance

An incense perfume. Very strong, and woody. Opening can be a little harsh with the smokiness, but it is definitely more wearable when it settles. Great cozy winter scent.

Beautiful woody scent. Especially enjoyed the opening. The dry down unfortunately reminds me a bit too much of tiger balm to enjoy wearing it.

Dry aromatic woods with mineral undertone. Absolutely nothing to do with oud. Very linear and unisex.

First thing that came to mind when I sprayed it on was Nasomatto Pardon. Pardon is a woody, incense, sandalwood, cinnamon and patchouli bomb. This smells super close to that. It is more tame than Pardon cause that is monstrous but this is more chill. Projection and longevity are decent. Definitely a nice perfume for a chill autumn day.

smells like a craft store in the fall/winter to me when they put those fake scented pine cones everywhere, hard pass

I got a sample with my order somewhere, I choose this one for my boyfriend because I think woody smells are good on him. It started hopeful on the first sniff, I do like the wood in this one. However, very quickly I realized that the heavy cinnamon topnote here is *exactly* the same as the "pumpkin spice latte" shower gel from Lush that I bought last autumn. Which is bright orange and sparkly. Once I smelled it, I couldn't unsmell it. It's a cloying, flat note that overpowers the rest of the smell. To me, it makes it smell very cheap and off putting. On the other hand, if you do like this perfume, and especially if you're looking for a more feminine version without the fresh and woody aspects, I recommend getting the lush shower gel or the body spray.

this is some high level, top notch artistry right here... even though this is called 'agarwood', it doesn't feature any, however, it smells EXACTLY like the incense sticks you can get in Japan from Buddhist stores which carry the name 'kyara' or 'jinkoh', both being high grades of agarwood itself. The play on words/scents here is that this scent smells EXACTLY like those incense sticks (pre-burning), much like another j scent perfume which smells like unburnt sandalwood incense sticks. neither jinkoh, kyara or sandalwood sticks (which contain NONE of the ingredients they are named after) all smell MUCH BETTER unburnt, and this scent for me captures the beauty of these sticks. every time i'm in Japan I like to pick up a few of these incense sticks, mostly because no one really does incense sticks as well as Japan does...

Have you ever seen those journals made from very thin slices of wood instead of paper? This fragrance feels like thumbing through one of those journals while the cleanest cedar incense burns. It is a very easy reach woody fragrance for me - Work or errands or yoga. Don't come to this thinking you're getting "oud" here - but I love it for what it is. Also, it's quite long-lasting in comparison to other J-Scents! Big bang for your buck if you're wanting easy reach clean and meditative woodiness.

This is a weird one. At first, I got a bunch of wood, the sour, green, funky kind, a bit Wonderwoody. Yadda yadda,the next time I smell it I get intense cinnamon stick, like in potpourri. I wanted more of the more complex, more challenging, weird wood smell, but now I've just got some cinnamon on my arm, with a hint of wood in the back. I don't hate it, but it's certainly not what I would want.

This is really good, beautiful woody scent, soft and wearable, however, projection and longevity is poor, reminds me a lot of Comme Des Garcons Wonderwood, but softer and less sharp, but the longevity makes the large bottle a pass for me, which is a shame because I love it.

i think i was initially anosmic to this because it was almost undetectable, like water. it eventually became a simple, linear woody scent. pleasant, but nothing unique or terribly complex
