Roasted Green Tea

Wowie!!!! I think this has to be the most unique yet still wearable fragrance I've come across so far. It's not gross or weird just... interesting. Different. Opens primarily with the tea + peanut, but after a few minutes the mint ushers in. Does bear some resemblance to Nest Indigo with the tea and mint but Indigo is a LOT stronger on the mint and is also super fruity due to the fig note so they're only like 50-60% similar to me. I'll wait to finish my sample before making a definitive decision but I could see myself buying a bottle of this which I really did not expect. I thought I wouldn't like the peanut note (it's not nearly as salty as I expected it to be!), that it would be yet another disappointing tea fragrance, that it'd feel redundant next to Matcha Meditation, that it'd be too subtle or not long lasting... nope to all of the above! This is great stuff Edit: testing it some more I realized it somewhat reminds me of Zoologist Rabbit also! This is the far superior version, though. Rabbit is intense & chaotic, this is a simplified version that's a lot more pleasant on the senses - no soapiness, and the florals & gourmand/savory notes sit in the background and allow the fresher green notes to sit at the forefront.

Delicious hojicha smell! I LOVE how well-blended this perfume is--I don't get any of the strange, pungent notes that other reviews mention on the first spray, and instead, the opening is a nutty, creamy roasted green tea. Then I get some coconut, so it feels like a hot hojicha latte with creamy coconut milk. I don't like overly sweet fragrances, so I'm usually wary of gourmands, but this one legitimately smells so much like a boba shop and isn't too sweet! I can definitely see this scent working all year round, but the lactonic coconut and roasted qualities make me think this would be a perfect fragrance for colder weather. It's a really versatile scent and can be worn to work or any daytime event. It's a bit subtle for nighttime, but I can also see it as a comforting bedtime scent because of the nostalgic roasted tea note.

I've been on a journey to find my ultimate green tea fragrance, and I've finally decided to purchase the full bottle of Roasted Green Tea. I enjoy the opening umami peanut note, it gives a punch of personality to this otherwise soft, sublime and gentle fragrance. After a minute or two the peanut fades and the lovely creamy matcha swirl arrives. It's light and minty, refreshing yet calming. A previous review mentioned getting a whiff of thin mints in the background, and I totally that get that too. The scent is wonderful, and I intended to make it my signature fragrance, but it turns out that its just a tad too sweet for me to wear daily. I'm looking forward to seeing how the scent changes throughout the seasons, I think it will bring a lovely lightness to autumn and winter.

I found myself surprised by the realism of the green tea scent at first spray, leans more towards the creamy/milky side than green, with notes of vanilla that really begins to shine as it dries down. The nuttiness reminds me of a kinako (roasted soy bean) powder that often appears in Japanese confectionery, so the fragrance overall expresses itself in a way that's reminiscent of a matcha dessert. The sillage is pretty intimate and I find myself needing reapply it every few hours, but given the value I'm more than willing to invest in a bottle to carry around with me. It's a reliable everyday fragrance that functions beautifully in the workplace or casual hangouts that always gets compliments whenever I'm close enough for someone to notice the scent

First thing: GIVE IT TIME TO DRY DOWN. Don’t judge this scent on first spray. This is the type of scent that needs time to bloom to be at its best. The longer you let it sit the better it gets! First spray I wasn’t a fan but I smelt it 5-10 minutes later and I adored it. A true matcha/green tea scent, lightly sweet with a slight bitter it’s perfect! Although, longevity didn’t feel long. I’m gonna try it again & spray more to see if maybe I just need to be heavier handed with this, will update later. It’s a strong like for sure, idk if it’s a love yet we shall see... but it’s definitely unique in my collection scent profile wise.

I love this one. Tried most of the line during my trip to scentxplore in NYC and I couldn't leave without picking this one up. Every J-scent is nice and airy, just like the Japanese culture. They prefer light, and natural smelling scents. Anyways, just like the name suggests, it smells like roasted green tea, has a slight hint of matcha-ness but isn't that pungent. Overall a really nicely blended fragrance that most will really enjoy. Amazing quality, great presentation and bottle, for $110/50ml, it is a great price. If you are interested in picking this up, I highly encourage! 9.2/10

I finally have found my green tea scent! This is a true, nearly photorealistic green tea scent with the perfect hint of roasted rice poking through to make this recognizable as genmaicha. I've been searching for my ideal green tea scent the last two months and most had either too much creaminess or too much lemon added in with more of a powdered matcha rather than green tea but this one has completely blown me away with how spot on and beautiful it is! This would be especially ideal during the spring or hot summer days but is equally lovely, though less sillage, on cold days.

I was looking for a Hojicha scent when I found this fragrance and to be honest, I don't get that at ALL! When I think of Hojicha, I want something nutty in a smoky way, not a salty peanut way. The umami-like peanut note is really aggressive at the start, so it typically takes me 20 minutes before I start to truly adore the smell. Once the peanut subsides and the iris and mint emerges, it reminds me so much a green tea ice cream. Super creamy, a little powdery, and very sweet. Very cutie-pie. Want to try more from this brand

Obsessed with this scent!! The opening is a warm, kind of savory, nutty green tea and it's to die for. I don't love the way the mint note comes through, but it's not prominent for long. The dry down reads as a beautiful fresh spa scent to me and stuck around for several hours even as it was weaker. I'm on a Tea Scent journey and have tried this and Ethereal Wave so far--they are definitely different kinds of Tea Scents and I love them both and I fear I will end up with a long wish list of full size bottles..

To me this reads very close to steeped, wet green tea leaves with a biscuit on the side. It is very cozy and comforting, and reads almost like a memory of a tea ceremony in Kyoto. It reads less "matcha latte" that many other green tea scents I've tried have (and I have sampled a lot). The peanut note does provide a roasty quality although the first 3-5 seconds it can be a little too nutty but that does go away very quickly. It's not a fantastic performer, but this is a scent I spray and wear only for myself.

smells just like a hojicha latte--delicious, warm, nutty tea, with the mint note making it more leafy, and the vanilla and coconut making it creamy and slightly sweet. i also get a raspberry note on my skin--on the initial spray i can smell raspberry seeds (a little fruity and a little nutty, makes sense) but as the fragrance wears off i get a faint-yet-present sweet raspberry, swedish fish kind of smell. it's probably just me though, and i still love it!

I really like photorealistic tea scents, a this is up there! I smelt it next to my matcha powder, and it’s slightly sweeter but very similar. The roasted element really comes through, which makes it cozy. It’s light enough I think you could get away with it all year round. I do agree with what someone else said, it follows the trend of East Asian scent profiles being more intimate sillage but I think with this type of scent that’s more what you want.

i only have the perfume oil, so no clue how it differs from the edt. the opening is very peanutty, which i actually quite like, but shortly after it settles into a lovely warm, roasted, slightly sweet and lactonic tea scent. agree with others that this smells more like genmaicha than hojicha. very intimate projection and short longevity, which is a bummer, but apparently that's the preference in japan, and i don't mind carrying it around to reapply.

It's VERY green on its own so I wasn't super into this at the start, but once I sprayed it on my skin it became delicious. It becomes very creamy/milky vanilla on the skin, which brings the floral notes out very nicely. However I am disappointed that I wasn't sensing any of the nuttiness? Perhaps I'd have to try it again, but the floral/vanilla/a little coconut stands out much more than peanut for me. And definitely didn't detect any mint 🧐

This is a creamy roasted green tea with refreshing mint, hints of warm and nutty peanuts, and a dry down of woody vanilla. This opens with that fun peanut note paired with a hint of a seaweed smell that isn’t off putting by any means, and a softly fresh coconut. The heart of this is like a jasmine green tea but with a creaminess from a smooth iris. The dry down is beautifully sweet and woody with remnants of that creamy green tea.

If you've ever been to Japan, this would remind you of your stay there. This is one of the prettiest and most realistic green tea fragrances out there. It's really good, just not my style. Edit 7/11/2024: Roasted Green Tea layered over Cedrat Boise by Mancera creates this ice cream-like accord. It's very creamy, not overly sweet, and has an amazing scent trail! Scent: 7/10 Projection: 9/10 (I find it cloying) Longevity: 8/10

slightly disappointed that the tea didn’t really seem to be the main note I got? that being said, the peanut, coconut and lactonic notes come together to create the experience of hojicha latte in a cafe. the creamier, sweeter notes are grounded by the more earthy wooden notes and kept light by the hint of mint and florals. slightly indulgent, very easy to wear, pretty drydown and has definitely grown on me more and more.

Top Notes Coconut, Peanut, Laver (seaweed) Middle Notes Jasmine, Mint, Wintergreen Last Notes Iris, Cedarwood, Vanilla, Clover It starts off strong with true Hojicha scent and leans into a super sweet note. I've noticed that on my skin, it's more minty and cedarwood, while my partner can smell sweeter, like matcha ice cream or umami. I can smell the projection too, and it lingers on the skin and clothing for a while.

This opens as the most photorealistic roasted green tea fragrance and after a few minutes it really comes to life with a subtle sweetness and some florals that is very reminiscent of matcha ice cream. It feels like walking the streets of Kyoto and passing by a matcha tea shop. I love my tea fragrances, but there's really nothing quite like this one. It's absolutely delicious and I smell it on myself for hours.

I actually really like the opening savory peanut-y note, however like others have said it's gone in a matter of seconds and you're left with an almost shockingly hyper-realistic matcha smell. Projects very well but doesn't punch you with an overpowering smell, you're constantly getting a soft hint of green tea in the back of your nose. This one is good. Like, really good.

This is hojicha in a bottle. Warm, toasty, and alive with the quiet hum of tea powder partially dissolved in freshly brewed, 90 degree liquid. There's also this hint of vanilla coconut, like a mousse that adds a creamy softness lingering in the background. A scent so effortlessly comforting with this quiet complexity that keeps drawing me back.

On my skin this is a straight up green tea minty fragrance with woody notes. I don’t smell any coconut or peanuts. This is definitely an office safe fragrance that is unisex and can be worn anytime of the year for any occasion. It has moderate longevity and light projection. Overall, I like it and look forward to continuing to wear it.

this is gorgeous, photorealistic and sweet, like a box of green tea mochi. realistic green tea + sugar + something marshmallowy and fluffy. i adore that this doesn't have citrus like every other green tea frag, which often ruins them for me. one of the best frags i've ever tried, now my dilemma is trying to get a bottle to Australia!

It reminds me of this puffed snack I got one time from the food recovery network. Seaweed and peanut, sweet and savory, a very different yet addicting flavor. I don’t know if I would wear it, but smelling it made me hungry. I wouldn’t consider it a roasted green tea scent, more of a seaweed scent. Still really delicious though.

Trust the process with this one! Despite the initial whiff of canned corn, this fragrance blossoms into a delightful concoction of minty green tea with a hint of sweetness. It's incredibly fresh and comforting, but it may take a couple of tries and a few hours on your skin to fully appreciate its charm.

This needs to be smelled on skin and wait for the drydown otherwise you get a really savory roasted/smoky scent. During the dry down the mint elevates it and the coconut and jasmine balances it out. I wish they had amped up the jasmine a little bit actually but its good as it is.

Oh my! I did not expect to like it as much as I did. In fact, I think I love this one. Opens with insane blast of pure peanuts or peanut butter, but settles very quickly into a fine mix of roasted green tea and vanilla that is also very powdery. Very chill and relaxed.

Just like everyone else has said, peanut in the open almost immediately dissipates. Then, the best matcha latte you've never had!! Dreamy and warm before becoming a lightly floral scent. It doesn't really project or last long. To me, it was lovely enough to not matter!

when I first sprayed this fragrance out I didn't like it. The peanut accord was very strong and a bit off putting to me. Within a few minutes the peanut subsides and the mate and florals come through. This is definitely one of the best tea fragrances I've come across.

In love with this minty genmaicha scent! Very evocative of my travels to Kyoto. Refined enough for a high tea date, and also cozy enough for lounging around the house in a fancy robe. I'd love it for fall and spring, but it's a bit too crispy for winter.

This is the second bottle that I bought on my vacation in Tokyo. As an Asian, I always have a soft spot for tea fragrances. I always enjoy the clean fresh and slightly bitter smell of tea. When I read the name "Roasted Green Tea", I was expecting to smell the roasted and nutty scent of hojicha. However, this is not really what this perfume smells like. I personally would name it "Matcha Cake" instead, as it smells sweet and creamy to my nose, especially the drydown. The perfume unfortunately does not perform well on my skin. It smells more interesting on paper. On paper the opening is pretty clean and fresh, a bit sweet and a bit creamy; however, on my skin the peanut note really comes forward. I smell the creamy nutty peanut more when I apply it to my skin. There is also something fishy, like seaweed smell in the background, which in my opinion is the typical smell of Japanese tea of good quality. It is light, gentle, fresh and clean. At this stage I would describe it as "Japanese green tea". Soon I start getting the mint. Unlike Moroccan mint tea where the mint is dominant, here the mint is very subtle, very soft. On the other hand, I also get some sour note. Especially on my skin the sour note is more obvious. It is not citrusy sourness, but the type of sourness that reminds me of Umeshu (Japanese plum liqueur). The sweetness is still there, but not sugary. At this stage it smells more like lemon ice tea to me. The drydown really resembles matcha to me. It is like matcha dessert. it is green and clean, slightly powdery, and with the right amount of sweetness and creaminess. The longevity is very impressive, it lasts 3-4 hours on my skin.

I had the opportunity to try all the j-scents variants while I was visiting Japan, I took my time and I picked this one. It’s literally hojicha. I won’t complicate it. It literally is hojicha. It’s so realistic like a freshly brewed roasted green tea is really in front of you and you inhale the steam rising from it. I was taken aback and was impressed and it was the biggest reason I chose this scent. I had 2 criteria: it had to be distinctly Japanese and I had to actually like it to wear it. There were other interesting options but nothing beat this one. In the store you tested it from a fragrance bell so some of the top notes were already gone. And when I got back home I was surprised to find the coconut notes when I opened the bottle. I also found it nuttier. But eventually in 10-30 minutes these notes weren't individually identifiable, the scent became a unified body. I started to appreciate the nuttiness, the creaminess of coconut, also probably how the shy note of mint contribute to the ‘freshly brewed’ feeling of the fragrance. All these have been molded themselves into one body. If you’re looking for a scent from this brand as a tourist and have the same criteria as mine, I think this is a good souvenir for you. But there are other -very japanese- options like Pink Mochi, Ramune (I like this very much), Sumo Wrestler (very niche), or Yuzu. I can say most of the collection are interesting, smells good and wearable. The guide said Yawahada, Agarwood , Paper Soap, Cafe and On a Cloud, were popular choices amongst Japanese. They were nice but the DNAs were familiar enough and I felt I can find them somewhere else.

This was an utter surprise to me. I ordered a batch of five samples from Lucky Scent: Ambre 114 Eau de Parfum, Histoires de Parfums; This Is Not A Blue Bottle Eau de Parfum, Histoires de Parfums; Roasted Green Tea Eau de Parfum , J-Scent; Sumo Wrestler Eau de Parfum, J-Scent; and Poudre de Riz Eau de Parfum, Pierre Guillaume Paris Black Collection. I thought I hated Roasted Green Tea. I was ready to rate it last on the list. From these samples I loved AMBRE 114 the most and ordered a full bottle. But Roasted Green Tea? Then I tried it. The overpowering opening note of... PEANUT! Disgusting. But then the magic began. Roasted Green Tea opened up to reveal an utterly wonderful melange of vanilla, iris, and hints of mint. There was also coconut. The sour peanut grew into a semi-sweet, powdery, yet oddly vegetal and herbal perfume. And it lasted all day, but gently, not obnoxiously. It reminded me of another perfume I own: Dior Homme Extreme. Which has a very strong IRIS scented concoction that I rarely wear. But here, Roasted Green Tea dances with a beautiful ensemble of unlikely notes, and does it with utter grace and understateness. And it is not expensive, either. So I might invest in a full bottle of it because I really enjoyed wearing it yesterday. I was wrong. I stand corrected. I like this a lot.

I tested this at the scent bar in LA and it smelled like I was actually sticking my nose in a cup of roasted green tea. I got home and ordered a sample but when I tried it on at home it wasn’t quite the same. There’s definitely a tea vibe but if I wore this out and someone smelled me I don’t think tea would be where their mind immediately went. It’s kind of just a light, basic feminine scent. Emphasis on light. I sprayed a TON on because I could immediately tell it wasn’t doing much. Throughout the day I could get small whiffs of it but after a few hours I had to stick my nose right up to my wrist to smell it. When I sprayed it on my clothes I couldn’t smell it at all after less than an hour. My husband never mentioned it and he normally comments when I wear a new scent. It’s got a basic vanilla base and it’s pretty light and airy overall. Definitely a low-key daytime scent, easy to wear, safe for the office, etc. I don’t hate it, it’s just nothing special imo. Not terribly priced for a decent sized bottle but you’re probably gonna need a lot of it.

I really loved this on paper, but then when I sprayed it on my skin, something went icky about it. It might be the peanut & seaweed notes. But... once I get past that, it settles into a really authentic matcha smell. It's kind of an interesting thing to smell like matcha all day, but I can't say I'm mad about it. It doesn't last a super long time and stays close to the skin, so you'd have to re-spray by the middle of the day. It really does remind me of the way a Starbucks Matcha Latte smells and tastes. It's a really calming, milky and green scent. I quite like this and would consider a full bottle one day. 6.5/10 Edit: After spraying this a few more times I really just don’t know if I can get past that sickly opening... it’s so grossly pungent. My husband said it smelled like piss. Dry down is still beautiful but dang it’s just so bad when you first spray it. I bumped my rating down for the opening and probably will not be buying the full bottle.

I can't smell this one when it's wet because the peanut comes off in a way that's a little repulsive. It's so green that it's sour and almost savory, reminds me of that one icky tasting pistachio that puts you off pistachios for awhile. Luckily, it quickly dissipates. The peanut, when dry, is the perfect level of nuttiness. I'm not a fan of mint, but here its also very nice, a refreshing zing that keeps the fragrance itself very light, while the coconut adds a creaminess that helps soften everything out. The tea is pretty strong, and I can see how this reads as matcha to some since the sweetness from the other notes prevent it from smelling like straight up tea bags/tea leaves. A green tea frag without any citrus feels hard to find, so this was a welcome take. Perfect for spring, has the typical J-Scent performance (wears light with little projection).

Yum, really good. If you like tea scents, this is a must. First spray is an incredible photorealistic recreation of wet green tea leaves, very vegetal and sharp . I was blown away at how accurate this was. It quickly fades into a nutty and lactonic green tea brew with a lovely soft floral weaving itself in and around these cushier notes, bringing the energy up similarly to how a cup of tea makes you feel. Genius. It’s true that it’s not a beast mode fragrance or particularly long lasting, but I think this is meant to be contemplated, more than shared with everyone around. The dry down is vanilla nutty green tea, so delicious, my favorite stage of this beauty. It’s a little powdery too, which is so nice. Longevity 4-5 hours, intimate sillage, unisex.

I was actually really impressed with this, it goes through quite a number of phases and the ride is quite enjoyable from start to finish. The opening of course has the peanut note (it reminds me of specifically when peanuts are steamed in their shell) and maybe a little bit of seaweed/nori? but it's gone soon and I actually don't mind it. And then cue the boba-shop, milky and sweet, matcha-flavored kit kat smell, which I expected and enjoy a lot. What makes this great is that the drydown is quite solid! It's sweet, floral, comforting and musky, and makes it past just like a novelty perfume and something that I actually want to wear out. It's way sweeter than I expected, and less smoky/nutty.

My skin seems to make every fragrance sweeter, so to me this is a sweetened genmaicha from a conbini in Tokyo. I get 50% green tea 50% sweet roasted rice notes, which isn’t unpleasant but not as clean and neutral as I would have expected from a tea fragrance! I like it because it reminds me of when I had this type of drink in the morning when visiting Japan. I’m not sure I would wear it daily or to be taken seriously though, but it might be a « everything becomes sweet on me » problem. As others noted, the longevity is not very long: after 4-5 hours, only a faint scent of sweet rice/vanilla remains on my skin.

Yes, they should change the name into Peanut or something. This is not Hojicha I want, the one that I bought in Daiso smell more like Hojicha. I expect deep roasted smell but yes, In the bottle said Top : Coconut, Peanut, Laver ( I believe it's Nori Seaweed, which this taste can be found in some matcha latte ). Middle : Jasmine, Mint, Winter Green ( aromatic plant ). Last notes : Iris, Cedarwood, Vanilla and Clover. However what I got is coconut and peanut blast with a hint of unoffensive green tea. No mint whatsoever. It's sweet and so sad it's dissappear too early, not even linger in my clothes.

It's very sweet on me! From the bottle, it smells like a very nice green milk tea with a touch of boba(?), so not at all like hojicha in my opinion. I can barely get any roasted notes from either the bottle or on me. I would have preferred if there was less sweet and more roasted tea. I should note that the bottle's atomizer is also one of the smoothest I've ever used. Overall definitely worth the price if you get it in Japan (~$20 when I bought it), but I probably wouldn't go out of my way to buy it through American resellers. It stays on me for quite a few hours, so I'm pretty happy with that!

I picked this up while at Hands in Tokyo and was floored by how great of a value this was compared to its price in the States. I was incredibly grateful to have come across it at Hands and sample it there before picking it up as souvenir. Roasted Green Tea is a very comforting, creamy, rich cup of hojicha. On my skin, and when I hold my nose close, there is a slightly spicy angelica root-like note in the opening which isn’t advertised in the official note breakdown, so I’m wondering if this is the wintergreen. A very easy fragrance to wear, but especially as a cozy bedtime, pick-me-up scent.

i always wanted to sample this brand but couldn't really access it anywhere in australia, so i was lucky enough to find very affordable j-scent rollerballs at the department store hands when i was in kyoto! i love the powdery savoury sweetness of this fragrance, and having it in a perfume oil format i like it being closer to the skin. definitely reminiscent of a toasty, sweet, creamy matcha latte. love the peanut note in here and that it has that signature funky grassy element that is missing from the sanitised gourmand idea of some "matcha latte" perfumes.

Another perfectly pleasant tea that reminds me of nicer Asian hotel lobbies. The ones with basic clean aesthetics, light colored wood, warm yet bright lighting, maybe some plants thrown about. A little tart green tea. Demure, simple, definitely an aesthetic. I wouldn’t personally pay $110 to smell like a hotel lobby, although I enjoy the smell overall. I’d buy it if it were in a diffuser. Update: 2nd test a few days later and the opening reminds me exactly of biting into a soybean powder dusted matcha mochi from the store. All in all too savory for me.
