Amour de Palazzo

Roasted Oud Phenomenal scent and phenomenally under-rated. In fact I think the whole house does not get enough amour. The scent itself can be described as an amber oud. Dorothee Piot did an exceptional job with these luxurious ingredients, most of her pieces I like. Very much like an artist I choose to follow. The frag is more nutty than powdery, more warm than spicy , more sweet than leathery. In the mid you will notice a woody oud. If I were to describe this in two others words it would be "Oud Spice". The high price tag brings high expectations. And as such, raises a possible concern. I think this is mostly natural ingredients and I hope this is real oud at this price, but I think it may not be. However, all things considered it still gets high marks and if one is bold enough to layer it with BR 540 your mind will be blown, especially if it is a colder evening and you are going out for a warm, romantic dinner. 4.2/5

I got a sample of this beauty at first for my husband in a store in my region. I loved how it was warming up on his skin, how the spice, the leather and the patchouli blended in to make it a perfect match, sexy and masculine, yet with a touch of sensibility... He also fell in love with it instantly, so he had to have a FB... At first I was a bit hesitant to buy it, as I remembered its price was a bit high for me. So I decided to buy him the 20ml format to start with, much more accessible. But, once on their online shop, the best surprise was yet to come: there is a new 50ml format avaialble now at 145 euros! OK, it doesn't come in the same leather case and it doesn't have the travel spray included, but it is still a beauty! And at this price, I replenished on my Stilettos on Lex as well, as the shipping was complimentary. I must say, this is a smart move from jul et mad!

I’m going to keep this short and sweet. It instantly shot to my favourites list. It’s awe inspiring and unisex enough for me to love it. It’s just the right blend of everything and stays warm without being sweet. I’m going to leave you tempted to try it. But I will say this, it does remind me a little of Cartier’s L’Envol (the parfum version) in its chewy, woody, amber, smooth gourmand-ness, but this is much more refined, elite, serious and committed. It lasts for about 5 hours on me (I wish it lasted longer) and projects like crazy for the first hour and a half. Then it calms right down until you think it might be gone, you get gentle wafts of it through the night as you sleep. It’s magnificent and I’ll cherish my bottle for special occasions only. Update: Just found a fantastic and cheap alternative to this - Amber of Yemen by El Nabil.

I am sad to see people just criticizing a brand because they are not Guerlain or Chanel... (please see below). FORTUNATELY, there are other brands out there that make this fantastic perfume industry what it is today. It is also thanks to these small brands that the Niche market, with its fantastic creativity, exists! I am very appreciative of Guerlain and Chanel, but I tend to really favour a small and exclusive brand like Jul et Mad! In my opinion, being new doesn't mean inferior quality or creativity... On the contrary! And, this brand in particular is truly special and really stands out. Not only by the level of quality and originality, but also by their presentation and unique offer. And $280 for 57ml of Extrait de Parfum seems quite a deal compared to other brands, JUST AS NEW, and in most cases offering only EDP concentrations...

This is a gorgeous scent with a transitional character - it smells both classic and modern. Its woody, spicy and ambery notes remind me of legends like Nina Ricci Farouche and Lancome Magie Noire, and it covers its oriental essence with a semi-transparent smoky and musky veil making the fragrance dual and non-obvious. Men can consider it feminine, women - masculine. It plays on both sides shimmering like water in Canal Grande on sunny day. For me it fits the story of a mysterious Venetian adventure perfectly - when at the Masquerade behind the mask, male wig and camisole can hide a pretty woman, and vice versa. Please try it before you buy it. Because you never know who you see in the mirror when you put it on.

Don't be fooled by the traditional colored juice and simple bottle, this is a dark and demonic concoction. I was skeptical of it at first, but the dry down is as dark and ethereal as that of Pascal Morabito's "Or Black" for men or Olivier Durbano's Black Tourmaline. If you are looking for something non-conventional, Modern, edgy, dark and really unlike 99% of what is out there for, this is a real winner. I see it being much more masculine than feminine...women should definitely try b4 u buy with this one...Men, However, if you are looking for a dark and unique creature that evolves with you through the night, I'd say it's a safe blind buy! Rating: 8.5/10

The softest leather scent you could possibly imagine combined with amber woody patchouli with a touch of powdery note. Leathery and clean( a little like baby powder ) the same time which is extra rare imho. This one suits a mature man in a tuxedo and tie. Very elegant and gentle. Longevity is good however projection is a little disappointing for the price. 3.75/5 Age:+40

Amazing ambery scent. Slightly powdery, and I get no animalic notes at all. Very soft and sits close to the skin. It does remind me a bit of Black Afghano like someone else here also mentioned, however, Amour de Palazzo smells much better; more wearable, and versatile. The longevity, though, is pretty bad for this type of fragrance.

Just a note about the longevity of this fragrance : I’ve worn it 2 days ago, yesterday I went to the hairdresser and while she was blowdrying my hair, she and I got strong whiffs of it. After 2 shampoos. And I swear I can still smell it now. My scarfs still radiates the scent too.

This is like a Pho broth made with roasted bones and a little heavy-handed with the spices. Love it. Winter and autumn comfiness.

Fell in love with this from a sample decant and got the small bottle. Not in love with it now. Not worth $300.

Unfortunately do not get any spice notes. I am reminded of Old Spice and its quite light and airy.

Only worn this once, but I think this reminds me of a more crowd-pleasing version of Must de Cartier! I really enjoy this style of scent and I appreciate one that's easier on the nose for most people since it did take me a while to adjust to Cartier's intensity when I was initially wearing it. This fragrance is definitely not ground breaking, but it's very solid and smells lovely. This is a lot lighter and less overwhelming compared to others in the same category as well if that's your thing!

Opening is an intense, harsh, rubbery oud and leather that reminded me a bit of "Rossam" by Histoires des Parfums, minus the rose. The dry down phase, however, is much more wearable. Sparkly aromatic clove and nutmeg with enough residual animalic darkness swirling in the background that it remains sultry, alluring and provocative. This is a power bitch perfume.

a sweet powdery amber with deerskin inflection...difficult to analyse deeply this one it's so light and inconsistent...for this price ! Nothing really animalic or oudy or anything in fact...it's a safe skin scent, barely detectable after 5min whatever the number of sprays. if you want to discover something really powdery animalic who lasts forever try Ambre Muscadin by Mazzone. (this perfume has been reformulated? some reviewers really find that strong?)

Those Jul et Mad perfumes are so nicely represented at the store, I just have to try them all. This one is very very masculine and I couldn't imagine spraying it on myself. It's leathery and spicy, there's cloves, oud and pepper. Too much for me, but still an interesting scent. I guess, I just don't want to smell that interesting.

Had my second wearing of my sample of this today and it's a thumbs down. I get a bit of the leather, but it reads somewhat old lady on me. I've accumulated a lot of cologne samples and have decided I need to start weeding them out. I generally don't toss fragrance, but this is a tosser!

I am a journalist and was sent the first three Jul et Mad perfumes to try, in the Nomad format (Stilettos on Lex and Terrasse à St Germain are the other two). This third one is a fabulous oriental. On my skin, it requires two sprays - one spray fades quickly but two sprays has a completely different effect and lasts a good 8-12 hours. All three perfumes share an interesting quality - they are very quiet on the skin but they have huge projection. After half an hour I could no longer smell this on my wrists, but oddly, I could smell it as I walked around, as if I was enveloped by an invisible cloud. The perfume felt even stronger in the open air, and there was also a strong sillage - I could smell it everywhere I'd been in the house, as if I was following my ghost around. The final hours are the most delicious, due to the castoreum, which gives it a really animalic quality, like burying your nose in your cat's fur. As an aside, the Nomad is gorgeous - a glass bottle in a slender, brushed-metal case, very elegant. It's nice to have this to pull out of a handbag and flash around. Update, 2017. Still haven't finished up any of the Nomads, and this fragrance remains my favourite of the initial three. The Nomad is holding up very well - still looking unmarked and elegant, a very nice format to own and hold in your hand. When this runs out, I'll replace it with the 20ml Companion, I think - I can't stretch to a full bottle!

Dorothy Piot For Congress! I actually came to this party for the leather. Not until I was about an hour into the fragrance that I notice there wasn't gonna be any leather on my skin. Not necessarily a bad thing and that's because it was accompanied by other warm components(mainly wood). Um...yeah.....wood is sort of a big deal here. 2 stages of wood: Sweet and Smokey. During the woody transformation, I noticed a scuffle between the amber, agarwood and labdanum. Deep in the 4th quarter, I'm getting a touch of violet and soft musks. No doubt, a nice fragrance but Jul Et Mad has gone mad. Look at the price tag!!

Another excellente scents from this house in woody mood and kind of animalic leather accord, with acceptable longevity and unfortunately low sillage.. A lovely unisex amber leather - not too strong on the usual offending notes, the leather is smooth, the civet is subdued, the oud is barely noticeable. Reads sweet on my skin but only just, the warm spices are noticeable but I would have guessed cinnamon or cardamom - although not really distinct. Resins are noticeable, patch too, but not too earthy, a nice soft woodsy resinous leathery sweet scent. Reminds me of Pavillion Rouge without the tobacco/ vetiver drydown.

this is so crazy smell,i don't like to describe the ingredients and how it's work, i will tell you what you are gonna feel when you wearing this one,i felt when i used it that i am at a luxury barbershop using that asian powder after cutting my hair. it's just like that. very soft and elegant and complex but,not new at all. try it by yourself and you will discover that. it's very expensive for 50 ml to buy it by USD 250 it doesn't deserve that much. 7/10

I'm such a grande dame when I wear this. Fine lady indeed. Leather, cedar, spices? Sounds mannish, no? NO. I don't know what sorcery the perfumer used, but this is ultra feminine, in that imperious, confident grande dame kind of way. More Katherine Hepburn less Audrey Hepburn.

I have a similar experience and reaction to Amour de Palazzo as the reviewer directly below.— this is a powder power, leather fragrance. Leans masculine with a rubbery opening that feels harsh. I like the drydown though it’s not something I feel the need to acquire.

Wow it's scent is so excellent ,rich ,deep and very nice. It is the best animalic scent that i smelled. Longevity and sillage this product is very low that get overpriced but I love it yet. 8/10

Surprisingly this perfume reminds me of M7 Absolu (or maybe even the original M7). Similar oud note on the basamic-leathery base.
