Banana Rush

I am in love with this fragrance. I suspect there's a strong element of skin chemistry (and nose chemistry) at play because the reviews seem to be all over the place. On me, the description on the back of the box is 100% accurate: "Opens with a delicious blend of ripe banana and maple syrup, leading into a lush tropical heart of creamy coconut and frangipani flower. The base is smooth and addictive, with rich vanilla and velvety sandalwood unfolding into a warm, sensual, and playful trail." My only quibble is that the banana note in the opening evaporates more quickly than the maple syrup, which lingers through the coconut-frangipani heart stage. That's a minor complaint, though, because the overall development is such a sweet, smooth, comforting cloud on me (and for my nose) at every stage. I only have the travel size at the moment, but I suspect a full bottle will be in my future despite the million and one fragrances I already own. I will say that someone remarked this perfume is "older" than I am. While I personally don't believe scent has an age attached to it, some people clearly do, so feel free to interpret that as you will. I'm taking it as a sign that (in the mid/dry down at least), it has sophistication. For reference, I am in my 40s, so I really don't understand the comment. I do love a good banana fragrance, and Profumi del Forte Vittoria Apuana has been my signature scent since it was released.

I believe I'm in the minority here, but I think this is genius. I've written before about how Frederic Malle is a theoretician commenting on perfume forms, in the way that Mies van der Rohe or Le Corbusier comment on architectural forms. And just like modernism had its response in postmodern architecture, so we see that some contemporary perfumes are built on a deep sense of irony. Juliette has a Gun has tried irony before, without success in my view ("Miami Shake"--a crude pun and a banal scent concept, a bit like "Lost Cherry", something that would have sounded "cool"...maybe in the '90s?). But Banana Rush is different. It has that crude pun thing going on with the cocaine reference, but it manages to be both playful and smart. When that brash, addictive gourmand banana opening fades, you're left with a real perfume. It manages to replicate the cultural effect of Angel, updated for the era of social media. Irony hasn't smelled so good in years.

I wouldn't say I need people to tell me I smell good in order to like a fragrance, but if I am kinda "on the fence," it pushes me HARD. I will never forget when two workers at UPS Store said how good I smelled in Encre Noire (one actually walked by me, and then came back to the other and said, "yeah, it's him." Then they told me. I was stunned as I didn't think EN was something anyone "external" liked. I thought of it as a "personal" scent. I felt somewhat similarly to Banana Rush. I got a sample, and tried it, and thought it was "nice." I didn't think it warranted a 3.4oz bottle purchase, but I was glad I smelled it. It was different and nice. But then, I had to go to Urgent Care for a bad cold, and the intake woman actually blurted out, "Whatever you're wearing smells REALLY GOOOOD!" That usually doesn't happen in a medical setting. So, I bought a 100ml (3.4oz) bottle this evening. The nurse spoke.

I am very hesitant when it comes to banana fragrances, because they often smell too artificial or plastic-y. Banana rush has a very beautiful opening scent of banana and maple syrup and dries down to a very strong summer vanilla that smells like some sort of banana bread or cake. It is so so good. I sprayed it on a tester and couldn’t stop smelling it and eventually sprayed it on myself and fell in love! Let it dry down. It lasted over 5+ hours on me personally and complimented my skin well. Mind you, I had read these reviews prior to going in store and smelling it and I don’t think the hate it’s getting is fair. I purchased it and it is now my current scent. Other scents I like are Dior hypnotic vanilla, Gucci flora gardenia, Versace dylan blue, and anything vanilla gourmand or aquatic. I think the tropical vibe the banana rush has makes it great as a summer scent,

Ok- lot’s of thoughts on this one. Instantly banana pie. To me it was very banana. Extremely banana. But to my partner, it was more dessert/cinnamon roll. I unfortunately didn’t have a chance to spray it on my skin. I have the tester strip and it was quite strong on it. But part of me wants to smell it more, or the other perfumes of this line. EDIT: I left the tester strip in my purse and I'm lowkey addicted to the smell that has been left by it. Very cozy and addicting. That after-smell makes me want to buy it tbh. ANOTHER EDIT: (LOL) I returned to Sephora!! I sprayed it on me this time!!! It took a while to settle but boy, I do like this. Kinda wished the opener wasn't so banana-y. Because at the end of the day, I really like it. And it sticks to ya like glue besties.

I was admittedly a bit skeptical about a banana scent. Banana Rush starts with top notes of maple syrupy banana and settles beautifully into very enjoyable middle notes of plumeria and coconut. It’s warm and soft and completely unique. This all settles into a smooth, lush sandalwood vanilla convergence. I was immediately hooked. It sensual and sophisticated. It is such a curated frag, I’ve never worn anything quite like it. It is my new daily signature scent. It is appropriate for day or night and, in my opinion, any season. I think it would also be an interesting frag to layer, maybe with the original Juliette Has a Gun, although it definitely can stand on its own. Very well done, I absolutely adore this one. A safe blind buy!

I’m honestly loving this one. I know a lot of people hate on Miami Shake, but I’m a fan — so hey, more for me. And just like Miami Shake, this lasts forever on my skin and clothes. This one leans much sweeter,r though, in a warm gourmand way. The opening banana is smooth, slightly earthy, and really well done. It’s not a floral banana at all — it’s straight-up dessert vibes. Think caramelized, sugary banana, like a rich banana treat. What surprised me most is how much I’m enjoying it in warm weather. I expected this to be more of a cold-weather scent, but it actually works really well in the heat too. That said, I think it’ll absolutely shine in cooler temps as well. Overall, I’m really happy with it — solid 8/10 from me.

Just tried this in store and ngl trying this was a wild ride. At first it was banana runts and caramel. After a half hour it's giving valentino dbir extradose. It's one of my favorite scents, I wear it at least a few times a week so I knowthis scent. I also have the dupe of dbir extradose juman precious by le falcone, which is spot on btw, and can confirm it's sooo similar. Once that banana burns off it's my favorite Valentino. So sad the banana doesn't last, but at least it's a nice scent once it's gone. It's a Lil whacky before dry down, a little chaotic, but not BAD. If you love sweet scents like I do its definitely worth trying, just don't expect the banana to stick around.

I’m a sucker for Oriental scents so that explains over half my craze with this. I’ve been enjoying and couldn’t stop going for whiffs; it smelled *familiar*, I’m acquainted with Chelsea Morning from Lush (was on my wish list for a hot minute). Feeling like I no longer need Sticky Dates, Let The Good Times Roll or CM as this satisfies that sweet, syrupy breakfast-like scent for my collection all in one. JHAG Banana Rush also doesn’t send my sinuses into a full blown infected mess like the former. Plus I’m cool with the longevity, easily 6-8hrs>>> P.S. The only other banana scent I plan to pursue is Marc Jacobs Eau So Extra. It’s a NEED :)

I've been on a hunt for a sweet summer banana fragrance and this is not that, but I still love it! It opens with gourmand sweet banana for a few seconds, then merges into banana bread, but all that quickly disappears leaving behind a trail of something like caramel/toffee with a ghost of a banana occasionally flying over you singing "I had all and then most of you, some and now none of you" before disappearing back into the unknown. There's a hint of something burnt in there too. A big smack in the face sweetness overload, in the same direction as Sticky Dates. Thankfully, I love Sticky Dates

I swear none of these reviews have actually smelled this scent because it is not sickly sweet or as gourmand forward as the notes indicate, not at all! This is actually an airy perfumey tropical scent! It’s perfect for spring and summer. You do not smell the coconut or syrup those notes just add creaminess and slight sweetness to the overall scent. It opens with a realist ripe banana note (not artificial candy like), slightly sweet, its subtle and fades once you get into the dry down which is a tropical fruity floral with vanilla. This is an amazing scent, very well crafted.

I'm glad I didn't listen to the haters. I LOOOVEE this perfume! It starts off a little reminiscent of banana sunscreen with VERY strong banana and coconut notes. However, as it dries down, it becomes less tropical and you get this delicious photorealistic banana bread scent that's sooo amazing. I've gotten a lot of compliments on it! I can see how some people could dislike it for its initial intensity, but once it sits on the skin for a while it becomes HEAVENLY. Definitely not for gourmand haters, I admit, but if you want to smell like a dessert- consider this fragrance!

Banana Rush 🍌☀️ I own both the mini bottle and the candle, and I love them equally. This fragrance is cozy, unforgettable and surprisingly beautiful. If you love pancakes with maple syrup, bananas after a workout and sunny afternoons, you might understand this scent. To me, it feels perfect on a tall, healthy, active girl full of energy and life. It's not for everyone, and that's exactly why I like it. Absolute 10/10 💛

This perfume is what made me realize what I love in a perfume is banana. I had no idea what my taste in perfume was until I smelt this one and realized it was gourmands. I hate most other types, and I now spend my days looking for more banana perfumes and lotions to fuel my addiction. This is a TRUE banana lover's dream. I will say the maple could be lighter, but I don't care, she's perfect.

Blind buy, didn’t even check the notes but I like jhag base so why not. I’m not disappointed at all, it’s actually a love relationship from a first spray! It’s sweet, warm, sunny, relaxed, 100% vacation vibes! Makes me think of caramelized banana dessert, with a distant smell of burnt sand and tropical flowers. Yum!

I kind of love this 🙈 I thought the maple syrup was weird at first, but I found myself using my travel size constantly because I was addicted to the smell Also, there’s something in this perfume that reminds me of beijos de sol and I mixed them and it was amazing 👌🏻

mmmmm the banana is such a good unique summer note that I was bracing for but LOVED! Like a delicious sunscreen. This is the perfect thing to layer with a Vacation brand sunscreen and just lean into the tropical smoothie that you'll smell like in the summer.

Gourmand lovers will eat this up. It smells like going to a diner on a cool Autumn morning and ordering a stack of pancakes smothered in maple syrup and topped with bananas. You then wash it all down with a vanilla latte. So yummy.

this smells sooooo freaking good like bananas foster, or bannofi. It smells like it could be cloying, but wow what a unique scent. Like pure butterscotch banana dessert. Not the most wearable but power to you!

First off, I love Jhag perfumes. They have the distinct musky smell and creates an aura around you, without being too loud. People want to sniff you in my experience. So when I read Banana Rush is about to be released in Germany and read the components I blind bought this on the spot! I love Bananas and Maple syrup. My breakfast is usually this with oat porridge, which is delicious, my soul food. Then Frangipani, my favorite flower that even grows on my balcony. Coconut, Vanilla and some wood. Everything about this promised the ultimate, delectable scent of the summer. The first spritz was pretty grounding. Hit me back to reality. It's a good scent. I gave it time to evolve and - yeah - it's good. But underwhelming. The banana feels pretty synthetic and the maple syrup more like burned sugar. You know, right before caramel begins to burn in the pot? That's the scent. It reminded me on autumn candles in TJMaxx stores. Frangipani? Tbh I cannot smell it. Neither the coconut, but you can feel the creaminess. Same goes for the vanilla. The dry down is a known and crowd pleasing accord. It's beautiful, yet generic. Banana rush could've been THE scent of the year, if it was more bold and banana forward, instead of burnt sugary glazing on banana candy imho. Maybe, this is my hope, this perfume needs time to macerate like a lot of perfumes need to. Yet right now, I like it. It's pleasant to me and it's not that offensive, but I know some people will hate the burnt sugar smell. The Sillage is pretty good with the vanilla and syrup, Projektion is arms length 1 hour and then turns close to the skin. When I move around I do get some whiffs of the perfume, which is nice. Longevity is up to 6hrs. This is not a blind buy for sure and you need to test it over several hours to see how it evolves. The praised banana is a fleeting accord, so you basically deal with a sugary vanilla maple concoction. Do I like this scent? Yes. Am I disappointed? Also yes. Is this signature scent worthy? No. Is it unisex? I'm a dude, so yes. Will I be layering this with other scents? Yes. Blind buy? No.

To preface: when I first saw the advertisements for this perfume, I was craving that bright, fruity, pure banana Laffy Taffy smell. However, once I actually read the notes and got my hands on a sample, I decided to remove all expectations and just go along for the ride. Initially, the first spray is a total explosion of rich, deep Bananas Foster; pure brown sugar melted into a warm, gooey banana scent. After about five minutes, a prominent nutty brown sugar quality takes over, giving it so much more depth thanks to that maple note. It develops into this almost spicy, toasted fragrance that moves away from a stereotypical banana and becomes more the essence of banana; it became this gorgeous, mellow sweetness with a thick custard vibe, almost milky. As time goes on (an hour or so), it settles into a much more subdued and wearable scent. While I initially worried it might be a bit too food-forward and heavy, the heart of the fragrance transforms into a soft, caramel-like dream with an almost powdery touch from the coconut. It smells like a very fancy, wearable tropical lotion that’s been perfectly caramelized on the skin. The dry down is truly amazing; I think it’s the sandalwood that grounds everything and adds that final touch of class. Weirdly enough, the banana note seems to peek out again during the final hours, but in a much more subdued, elegant way. I enjoyed it

Now, the scene goes that at 7:01 AM sharp Anna arrives at Ben’s banana stand to find the perfect and best banana, and at Ben’s suggestion, fell in love with Juliet Has a Gun’s Banana Rush. Her conquest seems to be fruitful, it seems, as this perfume captures bananas at every stage. I’ve never been truly fond of bananas (aided by my allergy to them), and at the first whiff of this perfume, I was inclined to rip on it and fuel my lifelong beef with bananas, mostly one sided. The opening is this sharp, almost medicinal banana smell that smells exactly like banana skin; it’s almost gag-worthy. However, as it dried down, it became this soft banana bread-y smell that’s divine, with hints of florals. It’s almost the perfect banana smell for their weird fans who enjoy it for some reason, but also an agreeable sweetish dessert that won’t make you smell rancid in this heat. This perfume hasn’t changed my opinions of bananas at all; however, it did melt my cold heart a bit.

GOD the maple adds such a lovely character to this fragrance. Super strong banana scent that is made warm, cozy, and comforting. Never thought they could make banana a fall scent, but this one executes it perfectly. Great if you want to smell like banana laffy taffy but warm. yeah the notes are pretty artificial but honestly idgaf lol. I love gourmands, but I've always approached them in a "wow, smells lovely, I would love for my house to smell like this" rather than a "wow, smells lovely, I would like to smell like this" way. The lack of sophistication is not really something that matters to me personally. no offense gourmand lovers

Starts off very banana-medicine strong for me. Then it settles (on my skin) into a dark, sweet vanilla. Tropical florals at sunset/night dipped in maple and vanilla. The coconut is subtle but gives it that tropical setting. I will be wearing this on humid summer nights. There's a bit of a nostalgic sense here... like Mean Girls—what Cady might have been wearing when she got that comment, if you know, you know 😉. I like that it's intriguing and polarizing, not boring. Prefer it over Miami shake personally. Will try layering it with Salt by Ellis for sunset at the beach.

Was a blind buy since we don't have Sephora in my country. It's not a photorealistic gourmand, nor is it as cloying as people claim. Very wearable. I wish I got more banana, and I wish I got more maple syrup honestly. I do sense a bit of familiarity with Sticky Dates, perhaps around 20%, this is way more perfumey and not as suffocating while still being sweet. Its performance is lackluster though. The dry down is nice, I am getting slight sunscreen vibes which pull it into summer territory, but you have to bury your nose in your skin to feel it.

This is a fun one that you can do a lot with. You have to give it a chance though. I didn't like it at first and had to play with it. Alone it smells like itself...just bananas. Which is great.. It has that banana milkshake scent that is a little sweet and inviting. Here's where it gets interesting though. This fragrance is incredibly buildable. Pair it with a coconut and it smells absolutely incredible. I used VS Coconut. Or layer with any tropical fruit like passion fruit and you smell like you just stepped onto a tropical island.

Was genuinely prepared to hate this, turns out I kinda like it. Hmm... Nothing too sophisticated or special - to me this smells exactly like some kind of coffee drink I've had years ago - no memory of what it was, but the scent is still extremely familiar. Milky, syrupy banana-flavored latte - with the "Gros Michel" candy-like banana flavoring, to be precise. Can't say much else about it, but it was a pleasant surpise after all. However, that was a paper strip test - maybe it could have performed differently on my skin.

This one is pretty surprising considering I’m not usually a fan of jhag. I initially got some of the maple, but it does fade for me. After about 30 minutes of wearing it, it started to turn soapy, likely from the coconut and frangipani. It’s not nearly as gourmand as I had anticipated. I'm not getting banana bread or pancakes. I’d say it’s banana + coconut drizzled in honey. After a few hours, it honestly leans quite tropical. I don’t think this is a safe blind buy, but I do enjoy it.

This would be reasonable to dislike since banana doesn’t make a fancy impression in fragrances. This actually took me by suprise as i was originally expecting nothing good coming out of it before i smelt it. This is quite literally ripe banana slices put on top of pancakes that has been drizzled in warm maple syrup. This is so comforting to me honestly, i think i might get a small 5ml of it just to spite that its definitely a autumn morning fragrance

This smells unexpectedly green to me. I'm not sure if that's the frangipani or more of a green banana smell. It is definitely sweet but has some freshness. The maple syrup smells more like maple sap (I'm eastern Canadian, so I know it well). The coconut and banana are there but not heavy. I think that's due to them being well blended. While this isn't typically a scent I'd go for, it'd be a great scent to wear on a hot and humid summer night out.

I got a true kick sampling this one. It’s hilarious. Not my cup of tea at all, but I wholeheartedly appreciate the journey. This one is Daisy Wild meets banana flavored Laffy Taffy. Extremely playful— comically candy-like on the immediate opening, with the dry down coming off as banana foster. If I smelled this in passing I would honestly have guessed someone had just finished an amazing dessert. Do yourself a favor and try before you buy.

My skin chemistry rejects it, as well as some others from this brand. BUT this is a very interesting molecular blend. The rubbing alcohol and wet rugs transformed with time into tropical floral, banana and Malibu rum mix. All on a warm sparkling vanilla base

Pretty much smells exactly like banana pancakes smothered in maple syrup. Which is a nice smell, don’t get me wrong, but I’d rather smell it than smell OF it. Too much of a photorealistic gourmand - I don’t want to smell like food! Maybe others would.

I like it a lot! Not a childish banana at all! It's very beautiful and niche One can imagine something slightly spicy as if you baked banana peel! Go for it if you are tired of sickly sweet similarly smelling sweet tooth scents!

I actually really like the fruitiness of the banana note, it’s really fresh and playful. It’s the slightly crispy, toasted note that ruins it for me. I’m ok with the sample, won’t be getting a full bottle.

The opening is a bit too heavy and maple-y to me, but in the drydown, it reminds me of those foam banana candies! Could see it becoming sickening when it's too hot out, but nice for spring/ fall for sure!

i guess i'm probably in the minority but i love this...floral sandalwood and vanilla dry down is so yummy even in summer heat. banana sadly doesn't last past first 10-15 minutes but i still love it.

Smells like bananas foster on me in the beginning, which I love. Towards the dry down it does have more of a coconutty-sunscreen scent but I don’t mind that, especially for summer.

Maple banana with a hint of coconut backbone. Fruity Gourmand perhaps?, intresting. Sweet, fruity unique & unisex. Good sillage and longitivity. Gives off sweet cravings.

The best part of this fragrance is the dry down. I know the opening is not too appealing, but give it some time to settle on your skin, that is where the magic happens✨

Not quite what I'd expect from a banana fragrence. Maple syrup is the highlight of this composition, with all other notes playing a supporting role.

I love this gourmand actually. A little darker banana, some coffee, smells a little like the espresso perfume from Sabrina Carpenter
