Into The Void

I finally bought this after repeated skin tests just to make sure I wasn't imagining things. Very few fragrances drive a strong positive emotional reaction after smelling on my skin. Bleu de Chanel is one. Aramis Aramis, YSL L'Homme, PDM Sedley, Nasomatto Duro and Mancera Red Tobacco are others. But surprisingly, JHAG Into The Void somehow pushes every happy button I have. And it's a calm happy. It's obviously niche and has a unique scent that might puzzle some, but if there was one perfume I own purely for me, Into The Void it is. I have a few others for compliments or the office. But on days when I just want to be totally comfortably in my own skin, I reach for this. I don't get some of the other rougher reactions on my skin, so it's always interesting how people respond to the same blend. For me, the licorice is soft and complex up front. The drydown into orchids lingers for a while in the mid and you have to wait many hours to get to the woods. Longevity is amazing. Probably better for winter. It's fall here in the land Downunder, so I'll have to wait for the summer verdict.

A narcotic and mysterious shape shifting semi synthetic woody Oriental, this is quite an evocative and unusual scent. The perfume opens with notes of licorice leading to a heart of orchid and tonka bean before very quickly settling into a dense powdery base of synthetic amber, papyrus, guaiac wood, patchouli and cedar. Unisex (slight feminine leaning) with moderate to strong sillage and good longevity. Some people may harken the initial vibe of the scent to fresh laundry smell, but give it a bit of time to start evolving, and it turns into a Black Afgano like thing. My favorite from the house of Juliette Has a Gun. Enjoy!

Wearing my sample and I'm not sure what to make of it. I do get sweetness, but not licorice per se. Almost irisy, but not iris. Lots of powder. Wood present, but not prominent. I don't see this one as particularly dark, just sweet and classic. EDIT: This one really grew on me through the dry down. It was so powdery, pleasantly sweet, with an earthy spice lingering from the licorice. I loved smelling this on my bed sheets as I fell asleep. EDIT 2: I bought a 90% full bottle since it was at such a good price. I'm really happy I did- I can't stop thinking about the powdery licorice and iris dry down.

This Is just what I wanted for Christmas this year. Something spicy, with a little bit of sweetness, but with woody and patchouli facets hovering around the background. But in this case, the wood and patchouli, along with the licorice seem to move back and forth throughout the fragrance. This must be the void aspect about the fragrance. just when you think one phase of this fragrance has come and gone. It comes back. This is a very good fragrance indeed. I am definitely getting a full bottle of this. Got several samples right now and will enjoy during the fall.

Oh my, I love, love, love this seductive, interesting, deep, dark fragrance! I ordered a sample as the price is ridiculous, but this does smell like a very expensive fragrance, so justified. I absolutely love the richness here. It is aniseed with complex vetiver and smothered floral undertones. Captivating! The sillage is just intense as is the longevity. The dry down on me is a woody, smooth scent. I cannot stop smelling my wrists. Maybe for my next birthday, I will request a full bottle of this. I absolutely adore this.

I love licorice, but this is an intense black licorice scent- which is a bit too strong in the opening. Once it dries down though....it's sooooo beautiful. The patchouli and cedar give it such a earthy & creamy warmth too. I really like it. Perfect for colder months. Definitely can't wear this now in the summer. I will have to get used to that opening though, oof. Update: A few months later (jan29) and I absolutely adore this. I can't believe I almost sold it! It's woodier and creamier than before. What a gem!

I love Into The Void, and I agree completely with MysticRoses's lovely review. It has definitely an aroma of oud to my nose, and the liquorice is very rich and deliciously boozy. It's gorgeous. It's divinely dark - a lovely dark mysterious void - with a beautiful wood and amber base. It's gorgeous. And I've received quite a few compliments, especially from my husband, who finds it very sexy and bewitching on me. It's deep, sensual, dark and exotic. I love it. And I adore the bottle.

A darkboozy and mysterious perfume... penetrates you in like a dark night with a dark sky. Modern and charismatic, i was immediately in love with it :) is well balanced. There is something sweet and floral in the distance I think the orchid, but also the tonka bean ... is fascinating. Takes you straight into the deep dark void. Once caught, there is no back. Its woody oriental and ambroxan gives it a special kick. Its luxury, sexy, seductive. I wear it day & night as with all my perfumes but its more night one. I find it smoky with some tonka sweetness in the background. If i wear it in the night i also wake up with it. Great longevity and heavy silage. 5/5

Sweet opening and i'm reminded of spices like in Serge Lutens Participe pase its go that same thick sweet candied spices. Rich, boozy, foody spices, black jelly beans maybe if anything but no straight up licorice to me. Slightly floral. I really liked it, something different for my collection.

This smells like a mix between the oudy/woody/cypriol (kinda scratchy woody), thickly, almost dankly sweet components of Nasomatto's Black Afgano, and a touch of the fizzy sweet iris/vanilla of Iris Ganache or Ombre Mercure. I'm diggin it, the name, the color, the scent. Kinda wishin I had a sample of Afgano still to do a sbs. Will try to report more insights but I definitely am intrigued by and like it a lot! [4.7.17] ETA: today it's more about the guaiac, which has a sourish wood tone to me that reminds me of (my favorite) skanky ouds, coupled with a creamy floral note ('orchid') and still that dryness of what they're calling papyrus. Much less scratchy to me today and I don't get the strong cedar some people do, and so far no licorice which ehhhh I'm not the biggest fan of so it should stand out if it's in here. I do get a 'fuel' (gasoline) note someone mentioned in a review on LuckScent, which is really intriguing and well done, whether on purpose or not. Really diggin it, decant wanted! Well, fb wanted but, that's more to have that beautiful bottle than to think I'd actually use it all ;)

An OK perfume, quite likeable when the licorice shows up. It has a slight similarity with Bvlgari's Jasmin Noir L' Essence, which I already own and definitely prefer over Into The Void. L'Essence has no patchouli and no papyrus (which does Into The Void no good, it makes it too impervious). Instead we have jasmin, almond, myrrhe and LOTS of tonka, creating a more wafty, creamy and deep perfume. ITV has that typical JHAG vibe (sharp/clean patchouli?), especially in the drydown, which makes it rather un-unique. Sillage: moderate Longevity: good

For anyone that has seen the movie ‘enter the void’ i was hoping this scent would be just as crazy. I wouldn’t call it that but this sure is interesting. I get smokey woods which blend with the liquorice and amber, creating something unique and wild. I also smell something a little skanky smelling in this like the smell of HOT skin. I think its sexy and alluring one of those scents thats hard to smell on yourself but leaves a trail behind you and people wondering what that intoxicating scent was.

So you just did your laundry, hung it, sat down and smoked a cigarette in the same room. Now the wet laundry has soaked up the cigarette smoke and you inhaled a piece of clothing – you smell Into the Void. It is strong, smoky, very detergent-like, a very fresh oriental scent. The base notes are true, the perfume dries down exactly how it is listed. It is also unisex. It is a good scent, but nothing too special.

Totally reminds me of Nishane Afrika-Oliphant. I feel like the resemblance comes from the overall dirty, powdery, elephant-at-the-zoo leather kind of vibe. I think I prefer Into the Void because it seems a bit more "wearable" to me. It's pretty cool, but definitely not for everybody. Certainly due for more wearings...

A beautiful dark scent, sharing some similarities with N Black Afghano, but most of all a carbon copy of LM Black Oud. It smells quite woody/incensy with a musky jasmine backbone, quite synthetic, but that's what we paid for here, afterall. Moderate performance. I got both LM Black Oud and this one for less than $100 (each), and would strongly suggest any of these two instead of the terribly overpriced BA. Good job, Juliette! Colder evenings, 25+

Probably the deepest, darkest, dirtiest, smokiest fragrance in my collection. I get no musk/ambroxan here whatsoever. I get burnt licorice, charred wood, and shredded week-old dark flowers. This is not for the faint of heart. 100% unisex if the orchid plays nice on your skin. Black magic in a bottle.

Wearing the sample now, first impressions. As others have said, laundry detergent, for sure; harsh, pungent, hard to wear. I have others samples waiting to be worn, and I am willing to bet ANY of them are better than this! It actually reminds me of "Dirty Flower Factory" by Kerosene, which was also harsh. And rather skanky, if you know what I mean. I need to go now and scrub this off.

so disappointed: I had high hopes for licorice, ambroxan patchouli, tonka, orchid, ... and all I got was burnt rubber with oud and sweat. It has to be my skin because the bottle came directly from JHAG. I own 3 JHAG perfumes which are filed under "love", this one unfortunately is labelled "dislike".

Heavy orchid opening makes this more feminine but the drydown is on the darker side. Even with the darkness the orchid has plenty of bite. Mostly woods and patchouli as I don't get any sweetness except from the orchid. Not bad but after 4 sprays from my sample I will pass it along.

meh ... to my nose constant aroma of liquorice liqueur, tonka bean, guajac wood, and laundry detergent for the orchid. little digestible. a bit pungent near but harmless at a long distance. the detergent is here... I go to rinse. boredom

Very woody, smoky and oriental fragrance, which gets a little sweeter after the opening. Dont get any fresh laundry scent others have commented, the closest would be fresh laundry left in smoking area. To me this gives similar vibes to Dior Oud Ispahan - definitely a no and definitely not for me. Also, i dont know is it only my bottle, but this one has a very terrible sprayer - very tough to press and the angle of the perfume came out is pretty wide.

I got a small decant of this to try it. But looking at these reviews, I question if my nose is broken. I smelled barely any licorice (which is a shame because I love licorice). It's in there, but hidden by a powder bomb. I can't help but think of dryer sheets or laundry detergent when I smell it; the orchid seems to dominate. Maybe it's my skin or my nose, but there's very little "dark" about this fragrance, unless laundry is considered dark.

Positives: it's very original. Negatives: it's absolutely vile. For me this falls into the same category as most MMM scents, namely cheap-smelling novelty claptrap. It smells like licorice, but in a repulsive way that brings out memories of cream rubbed into childhood wounds (or is it deep heat?) and doctor's waiting rooms. The most hilarious thing is that is deemed worthy of an even more extortionate price than most of the line.

Rather boring and very weak. I cannot smell it past my wrist, and the scent is generic like your standard Bath and Body Works mist. I get a very slight licorice comparable to the one in Lolita Lempicka, then mostly powdery wood and a floral note. It's hard to describe this perfume since I have to really breathe this in to get an impression. "Into the Void" is not an apt name at all, unless it describes the barely-there sillage.

Extremely stomach-churning to me. Very potent. I cannot even really describe the scent. Cloying patchouli orchid would be my best guess. The liquid is thick and oily, too, which doesn't help the cloying feeling.

Licorice, really? There might be a couple of black jelly beans hopping sweetly around in there, but that's about the end of it for me. Ambroxan escapes me here, per usual, but at least it doesn't contribute to an ink accord as has been typically the case of the note. This composition out ambroxan it's blessedly benign, unless (and this IS a possibility) the ambroxan damage to this creation is without my knowledge. Into the Void is dark and just a little spicy. The darkness shades the orchid, making it present as a floral, but it doesn't allow it enough room to show off. The dark wood vibe, with the papyrus and cedar notes, is pervasive throughout. Dark woods is much more identifying as the essence of this fragrance than the vacuum and the nothingness I associate with a void. It isn't a void to me. Nor is it a fragrant space filled with wonder, for imagination to find expression. It's not intriguing. My curiosity ended with the first wearing. No, it ended within the first hour. Noteworthy Notes --woods --floral (not easily identified as orchid) --a late (too late) and subtle animalic element Projection --no comments Longevity --longer than my interest in it. Into the Void is a disappointment for me. It's not a 'dislike', but I expect more from a fragrance boldly named Into the Void. I expect even more from a fragrance house brassy enough to give Juliette a gun!

I respect bottles. If your bottle looks interesting then i have no other choice but to take you seriously. From the looks of this bottle, it appears as if Juliette was tired of being treated like a castaway. I'm trying to decode this void concept for clarity...Into the empty? Into the bare? Into the clear? The bottle is black and giving the note listings, maybe it's more related to a space and time where matter don't matter. If you just focus on the name, you'll likely expect something avant garde. As I sniff my arm, I can tell you that this fragrance is the antithesis of empty, clear, void or bare. This is the heavy of the heavies(accord wise) without being ostentatious. This is not the kind of brew meant for strong sillage. The dash of orchid was a nice touch and too much would of proven disastrous. Uncredited is a cognac nuance which hovers over the first 45 minutes into the fragrance. Depending on the purpose of why you paid admission, that could be a cheer or jeer. The patchouli is also jeer worthy especially if you're groomed from the school of earthy patchouli. Personally, I didn't mind the fragrance as a whole. Absolutely not ground breaking by any means but respectable. I managed to get a compliment therefore this has adoration appeal.

To be honest, I was expecting something way more timid, soft and sexy. It's very powerful and dense, sth in the vibe of Arabian style scents. I even get some oudy nuances. Patchouli plays the leading role and his friends papyrus, guaiac wood and cedar are not shy either. Licorice is there as well, adding some sweet woody-spicy nuances. A bit masculine and aromatic for my taste. I still like it very much. I was only hoping for more orchid and some coziness from tonka. It has a dark vibe as the name and the bottle suggest and could be very nice for romantic nights. I would really love it on my man.

Her madness was: she is what she pretends to be.” (Anais nin) A voluptuous, imperious character, somewhat sensual, somewhat perverse and psychotic. Has absolutely no projection or sillage, incredibly weak, nearly comatose. It isn’t rigidly the void in the great cosmos, it is the void in the stomach, in the womb, something not so abstract as it is fleshy and blood-seeping. There is a gothic horror in it for me. I wouldn’t blind buy it if I were you, or buy it at all, unless you like barely-there-scents.

Dark, mysterious, dense and unique. Strong orchid and licorine in the opening, the woody papyrus and the patchouli appear only in the drydown. You MUST love orchid in order to love this fragrance. Woody floral instead of oriental woody, I wouldn't put it into the oriental category. This isn't a sweet scent, and leans more feminine, yet men can wear this too. Average sillage and longevity, not a powerhouse IMO, but I wouldn't call it weak either. Uniqueness: 8,5/10 Sillage: 7,5/10 Longevity: 7/10 Overall: 7/10

I find it weird people are describing this as dark or deep. It smells super powdery (like 75%) dusty (20%) and just slightly woody (5%) on my skin. Definitely get the comparison to dior poison. Gives me the same vibe as replica whispers in the library, but i much prefer that over this.

I don't normally like liquorice but this has a dark and boozy facet to it that I can't resist. There is something oudy about this fragrance, it has so much depth and the amber and woody baseline is extremely sensual. Very very heavy and powerful but absolutely divine nonetheless.

Dark, woody, but with a sweetness that smells good on me. Like a sweet campfire. Or the smell of pinon wood fires in NM. LOVE it. It's one of those can't stop smelling myself scents.
