Madeleine Impériale

I don't get the hate. It's a deep, dark, hard wood with a bit of sweetness and some bitterness and something quite almondy. It reminds me of a stronger, darker, tougher cousin of my beloved Lattafa Oudain minus the incense. I adore this. It's not very crowd pleasing nor is it too wearable, but I am so glad I pulled the trigger on it. I also own the beautiful fluffy Powder Love, they are 180°.

It's available in Sephora. heavy sillage for a JHAG. Good stuff. leans feminine, more suited for autumn & winter. Not a blind buy.

The oud dominates over sweet gourmand notes. The marketing doesn't match the scent at all. It's a shame, because this might be an appealing cologne to men who want a strong, woody, traditionally masculine scent with a hint of sweetness.

What a strange combination. The oud is certainly there but it's so weirdly sweet I can't imagine myself wearing this. Might be okay for a man if he felt like it during the fall. Unfortunately it's difficult for me to describe the notes because it's so difficult to tell what's going on.

oh boy. this fragrance literally smells like the aftermath of a car crash to me. it opens with a pungent harsh smell like gasoline or oil, likely from the oud. upon dry down, I get a nauseating sweetness that comes through and smells like leaking antifreeze or the smell of the driver who caused the crash, pacing the scene with remnants of sweet alcohol on their breath. there is a strange smokiness in the background that adds to the picture of tragedy. this is genuinely one of the worst fragrances I have sampled to date. I scrubbed it with a baby wipe, antibacterial hand wipe, and then washed it with soap and water and it was STILL there, and STRONG. absolutely foul. I literally cannot believe this made it through quality control and testing.

I made the mistake of spraying this into the air to get a snif right before I went to bed. I felt as if I had ushered a skunk into my house! Where was the delectable French pastry?? I waved the scent toward my face, only to immediately regret that choice. I washed my hands immediately, sprayed other sweet smelling fragrance to mask the odor and went to bed. Its now the next morning and the skunk smell is still there. ONE SPRAY is all it took. Yikes. (This is my first time commenting on a fragrance here but I felt compelled to add my voice to the choir of, 'what the hell were they thinking?')

Bad. Not even kinda bad. Its BAD BAD. Imagine machine oil mixed with castor oil mixed with satan's ass crack and maybe a smidge of his vomit. That is exactly what this smells like. It is rancid. Oud oud and more oud and not in a good way. I have truly never smelled a worse perfume. The notes have to be incorrect because I smell none of them minus oud. I cannot believe this abomination was even released because I'm usually a fan of JHAG.

It smells yucky :( Makes a cat hiss and run away. Partner says it smells like an old camera case from a thrift store that they'd throw away after getting the camera. Kinda like burnt plastic or smt. I have absolutely no idea where the Madelaine is. Not a single person (or feline) ik, would like this. Got a sample after buying another fragrance and I genuinely find it disgusting... and it's unfortunately lasting and piercing.

I wanted to love this. But it smells strongly of gasoline and motor oil. I detect *zero* madeleine accord/vanilla. I would be frightened for anyone to light a cigarette near me when wearing this perfume. Definitely smell this before you invest in a full bottle because the notes are highly misleading.

JHAG is one of my favorites so I got a sample of this and was so excited. VERY DISAPPOINTED. It is so smokey, overwhelmingly. It is not gourmand at all. Made my stomach sick. And it lingered for so long

It's a slap in the face to every profile, searcher, and fragrance creator, that you would soil our feedback/scores/reviews with your FAKE NEWS! People that vote on a fragrance that hasn’t been released yet, without EVEN SMELLING IT FIRST, disrespect the entire Fragrantica community and are both ignorant and repugnant!

Oooh I’m excited to try this one! I’m also extremely excited to get Powder Love! Also, I must agree... please stop hating on fragrances without ever even trying them. It’s ridiculous behavior, and it messes up the ratings and reviews for everyone who is actually curious about the fragrance. We should be helpful to each other, especially since we all share in enjoying this amazing hobby together!💖

Terrible, I'm struggling to find any gourmand notes at all. Maybe there would be some niche interest if it was rebranded as more of a Bastille-style French furniture polish or gasoline fragrance in a way that's uprfont about being conceptually spooky like le fin du monde or inexcusable evil. Instead, I'm betrayed- where are my sweet lovely madeleines?! My boyfriend hates it too and feels dizzy :(

When they first published marketing it was pitched as an almond gourmand. Now almond has been removed from the notes with orange, oud, and patchouli added. They reformulated before it was released?!? Kept the bakery name and bottle but changed it to an oud patchouli citrus... Guess that was the reason for a year long delay. I no longer have any interest in this frag.

Thought this might be an intriguing perfume with the madeleine top note accord but it’s all too brief. A pungent overbearing industrial oud takes over and drowns out any other perceivable note and seems to get even stronger. Definitely not for the faint hearted. Not for me unfortunately so I bought banana rush instead .

People seriously just need to grow up, how do you dislike a parfume without trying it??? I personally have loved almost every fragrance this house produces, I love everything about jhag and I think they are just lovely and I can't wait to try this one and the pink one!

Created a fragrantica account just to say how awful this scent is. Smells like gasoline (not in a good way) mixed with how burnt espresso tastes. Tried to let her dry out but the scent was so suffocating I had to wash it off. Unfortunately it didn’t do anything.

This is a VERY Oud heavy fragrance. It almost has a leather scent to it. I can smell the citrus and blood orange in the opening and the saffron too, but it’s definitely not a gourmand/edible type of fragrance.

I feel like ppl always troll and hate especially on any new gourmand release. For no good reason just cause they don’t like gourmands lol. Ppl seriously need to grow tf 🆙 and Keep all the gourmands coming 🤪

It's not like the notes listed at all. It's a heavy oud with frankincense. I do get the blood orange hit like a sanpellegrino blood orange soda. It's quite a strong sillage. Expensive. But i like it.

I just wish they had advertised this differently. The leather and amber are so strong, this is definitely a masculine fragrance for me personally. Definitely my least favorite of the bold collection

So... was this just a joke? Or was it a super secret limited edition only available to three people under the second full moon during the harvest of imaginary stardust?

Smells like sweet gasoline Edit. I sprayed this twice last week and my room still smells of this. This might be the new followed by kerosene

This flat out stinks. The oud punches you in the nostrils right out of the gate. It’s awful.

Smelled it from the nozzle. Hoooly, what a strong smell. I did not like it.

Oud, oud, oud and some sickly sweetness. 100% scrubber for me.

I cannot wait to try this one - along with Powder Love!!!
