Moscow Mule

A musky citrus perfume that, surprisingly, I really liked. And I say surprisingly because citrus and marine perfumes are usually the ones I like the least, and not because the aroma itself displeases me but because they are not very original to me and tend to have a rather bad performance on my skin. However, I really liked Moscow mule. On the one hand, the aroma, even though it is the type of aroma of its style (that if bergamot, that if white flowers, that if ginger, that if musk ...) It has something that makes it quite different for me from other similar perfumes. It is not that it is an example of originality or a conceptual perfume work of art or an olfactory experience; but it has something that catches my attention and that on my skin develops differently from other similar ones. It also has a good performance that is good for this time of aromas since I can feel it for many hours without problems and that on my skin is not usually normal, the lemon and I do not get along very well. What I notice the most are the citrus notes and the ginger that gives it a spicy touch. In the middle the hediona, giving its soft floral touch and when drying, above all, a very discreet but persistent musk (nothing to do with the musk used in Musc invisible tank, although it may be the same, the way it is mixed here means that it does not have the dirty development that the other had on my skin). There are also very soft woods in the background and a powdery touch that is probably given by the ambrette musk. In short, it is a pleasant, fresh and easy-to-use perfume, ideal to be worn daily in spring and summer or even as a fragrance for during and after the gym. I’ve no complainants about this fragrance, I quite enjoyed it. Then again I’m really not all that hard to please and to over more balance and critique I’d say this stuff is unlikely to blow anyone away either. I’ve become very accustomed to JHaG and their subversive, minimalism especially with recent releases and Moscow mule is no different. The opening is slight, a hint of sharpness from lime and ginger and even a hint of booze but there’s the overwhelming sense that this is another modern art piece a white on white Rothko type of effort. The base of this is a powdery, warm, woody, synthetic amber somewhere between iso E super, cashermean and ambroxan. It reminds me a touch of a more masculine, ‘Anyway’ a JHaG release I liked very much indeed and own a bottle. The spicy ginger lasts throughout and the drydown is warm and cozy and actually reminds me of bits and pieces of other stuff like this (not quite sure what off the top of my head.) I like it though, quality is good, performance is good, it’s a mellow low lying fragrance in the main part but that’s fine by me. I would definitely wear this again, I think I fell for it today but I’m not going to run out to buy it.

I recently received a JHAG sampler and this is the first of the lineup that I'm trying on skin, last night I did a paper spray test of them all and this was my favorite! Before this sampler I was already somewhat familiar with 'Not a Perfume,' and to me, Moscow Mule smells like that but with a citrusy/woodsy overhang. The at first the apple definitely stands out the most to me over the lime and ginger. After a while the ginger and lime start to come through. For some reason the full notes aren't listed here and this one has notes of both Iso E super (as a heart note) and Ambroxan (as a base note) which is why to me it's giving 'skin scent.' There's something else synthetic there that made me a bit sneezey as well. I think the reason some people are saying this has poor lasting power is because they aren't used to how some of these synthetic aromachemicals unfold. I was initially displeased upon spraying this on myself because I also thought I couldn't smell anything. However an hour or two after this had been sitting on my skin it started to speak and created a really nice, velvety scent bubble. Overall I really enjoyed this!

As a lover of the drink, I was intrigued by the blend of ginger, lime, and vodka notes, which are the key ingredients of the cocktail. Opens with a beautiful and soft ginger note, accompanied by lime and bergamot, creating a beautiful, juicy, and crisp scent that uplifts the mood and sets the tone for the day ahead. It feels happy and fun, perfect for starting the day. Transitions into a more woody scent, while still retaining the fruity and citrusy elements from the top notes. The woody notes are soft and cozy, with hints of Iso E Super and Amber Xtreme, a musky and warm note. The base is completed with a blend of musk, which adds a fruity and warm touch. Beautiful and unique scent that captures the essence of the Moscow Mule cocktail in a bottle. The scent is happy, fun, and uplifting, perfect for starting the day, and it has a beautiful transition into a soft and cozy woody scent that keeps me feeling warm and confident throughout the day.

I just received this in a swap and am very happy with it! I am not a fan of extremely citrusy scents but I really like this. It starts out with lemon/lime notes and quickly fades into a deep citrus woody scent. The sillage is very low and it's a bit of a skin scent. I feel like this would do great in very hot weather. As for the light blue comparison, this far less lemony. Light blue definitely lasts longer and is stronger. I much prefer this but if you are looking for a lemon scent that projects more, I would choose light blue. However, I believe that they are different enough to own both. Edit: longevity sucks which is such a shame. I really really like this but I pretty much use it as a body spray and it lasts for maybe an hour. Edit #2: I also have a montale soleil de Capri sample and it is very different. the montale is very very lemony and kinda sweet in my opinion. This is more fresh musky citrus.

I was very pleasantly surprised by this! I love a cool Moscow Mule, and to me, this scent is a wonderful representation of the drink! Immediately upon spraying I was disappointed by the smell. However, I went about my day (reading the most recent perfume reviews, haha!), and about 10 minutes later noticed a fabulous citrus/ginger/woody smell. Like the other JHAG scents, this one lasts a good 7 hours or so on me (and I must be an anomaly, since I don't go anosmic to them!), with fairly low sillage. To me it's refreshing and summery and very different to most of my collection, and I will revisit it in the spring to decide if I want to buy a full bottle of it (we're into fall right now). IMHO, this and "MMMM..." were the highlights of the JHAG discovery set. *****UPDATE***** After testing this sample more extensively, I have upgraded my "like" to a "love". I am putting it on my to-buy list!

I'm still new on this fragance journey. I got Moscow Mule many many moons ago, am currently wearing it. I love it, it's good for any occasion if you ask me. It's a citrus, slightly spicy refreshing , unisex scent. I dont think it's too much and holds very well in the heat. To me it makes me feel like a sexy woman, can be used any time and I'd say it favors Spring/ Summer and maybe fall. It's not super gourmand, and I have no idea what a real Moscow Mule smells like. But if you like fresh, but not too over powering scents , or if you're looking for a citrus that doesn't smell like Lemon Pledge give this a shot. I would purchase a full bottle of this at a later date. To be fair I do like Green, Aquatic, Woody, Citrus scents though. But I say judge this one with your own nose. It was the 1sr or 2nd scent I ever bought and to this day I still love it.

Upon first sniff (3 sprays on top of hand) I smelled heavy Sandalwood for some reason. It reminded me of Nothing But Sea And Sky which I don't care for. However, after a few minutes it started to morph into JHAG Not A Perfume and eventually faded into a beautiful molecular scent reminiscent of Missing Person. I really loved the experience but it didn't smell much like Moscow Mules and they are my favorite drink! My husband picked up on the citrus more than me. Overall it's really pleasant and I will be going hard on the sprays next time to see what that does. *This lost it's luster quickly. I blew threw the travel, the lasting power is no good. Missing Person is similar and a better buy imo.

This might be my favorite JHAG I have tried so far. Citrus, Ginger, Musk, like a spicy combo of Jo Malone's English Pear & Fresia and Penhaligons Juniper Sling. I would so buy this but I think JHAG bottles are kind of uggo. This its the perfect smell for a spring or summer outing and it made me feel so clean and relaxed the whole day. Not much projection but I could definitely smell it on myself for most of the day ~6-7ish hours. Opens with a BLAST of citrus and a little fruit which is really nice, sort of similar to Pear Inc(?) and then dries down into a milder citrus and ginger scent before turning into a clean musk at the base with a little fruit and a little sweetness :)

After hearing so many mixed reviews I got my hands on this for a discounted price, and absolutely love it. Generally I don't like extremely bright fragrances that stay too sharp. This has ambrette at the base giving some nice sweetness at the end. It also reads intensely of lime on my skin which I love. My only complaint is longevity isn't as intense as I prefer, no problem because I don't mind having to respray. This is a delicious summer perfume, very reasonably priced. I will continue to try this house, as I adore Vanilla Vibes for summer also.

It's not strong, it will not stay long on the skin, i wont notice it all the moment i go out, but i love it. I love to spray it after shower before bedtime. I can sense it and enjoy it, it won't irritates, because it's not intese, but feeling luxury in bed, satin sheets etc. If woman needs a perfume for any occasion, this is "i feel sexy in bed" type of occasion for me, and it is not sweet soapy-shampoo fragrance. It's nothing sweet about it except, those who wear it, that's just my perspective.

I adore this scent. It’s my spring and summer favorite and it mixes so nicely with Magnolia Bliss (the only other JHAG that I still own.). It doesn’t have long lasting power but I got it cheep on marketplace so I don’t mind. I can see the LB resemblance but it reminds me of Moschino I love love more. NAP sometimes smelled amazing on me and sometimes it had a sour note. This became a skin scent about 2 hours in and does remind me of NAP but it has yet to become sour.

A melange of ginger and soft citrus notes, with a side of transparent jasmine (hedione) and apple, with a modern woody, musky base. It’s not loud, high-pitched or screechy (to me), as some woody amber accords can be - instead it feels nicely balanced. I should have bought this scent first, instead of the brand’s Not A Perfume, as it’s less blunt and musky, and more complex, although you can definitely smell the family resemblance as they dry down.

Instant love and on my skin it lasts long enough which is a bonus. Smells like a luxury holiday on the beach, perfect fresh citrus scent. I smell lime, ginger and green apple, slightly bitter, slightly sweet and sour, perfectly mixed into a harmonious scent. Lime remains consistent and most prominent on my skin despite it being a top note. Overall very refreshing and beautiful. Heaven for me!

With my body chemistry, the amber and musk really shine through and play nicely with the citrus notes. The opening is slightly alcoholic, but doesn't last for more than a few minutes. It sits close to the skin like with all JHAG fragrances, and is intoxicating and unique, yet still subtle enough to wear everyday. Can't wait to purchase a full bottle once I run out of the travel spray.

Well, I love this fragrance. I'm obsessed with the woody base notes that smell to me like oud. The freshness of the lime and bergamot give a nice sophisticated contrast. Maybe the negative reviews aren't smelling the same notes because this is beautiful on me. It's noticeable without being too loud. Easy to wear for any occasion.

moscow mules are my absolute favorite! i love ginger everything! i love lime (or any citrus there is) everything! the first spray made me shed a tear of hapiness :') but before the tear even got to roll down my cheek - it was gone. the delicious scent disappeared. devastating. what could have been, if only we had more time. 3

This is exactly what I was looking for This summer! Citrus and ginger, cool and light . Where I live, it gets super hot and super humid. This is prefect. It DOESN'T SMELL LIKE LIGHT BLUE! I suppose the citrus triggers the association. This has no cedar at all.

Wow this is 100% DG blue to me. Maybe with lots more musk, but DG is also quite musky to me. Has a touch more lasting power but damn, same scent for sure. Not getting any ginger here. I do love this scent. Great one for the summer.

I understand the comparison to light blue however I like this a lot more. Light blue is a linear lemon scent to me, while this evokes a sparkling lime aroma with a touch of ginger. It’s beautiful but I wish it lasted longer.

Very nice summer scent, I am not really a citruslover but this one is *chef's kiss*, just the right spot between sour, fresh, creamy and sweet. But like others have said before me, poor quality sillage and longevity.

This has been in my collection for years, such a refreshing, cool scent for summer. A staple when I travel to hot climates, I tend to pair it with an oud for more longevity as it sticks pretty close to the skin.

I love this, it smells so good to me. It's definitely unisex and I'm a woman and love any type of perfume, from sweet to masculine. I can't wait to try more from Juliette has a Gun!

Very similar to D&G light blue and Scentstory 24 Ice only better IMO. Only negative thing would be that it doesn’t last very long on my skin.

LOVE this. It smells similar to Pear Inc except instead of pear it’s lemon, lime and apple. Crisp, refreshing and effervescent.

That's a very nice ginger creating a rough scent. Definitely feels like a big city mule :) Overall, truly great perfume!

I friggin love this one too bad it has zero performance :'( It does not smell like Light Blue very much in my opinion.

Smells so fresh and zingy from the ginger note. The citrus is very well blended with the rest of the ingredients.

I love perfumes with ambrette. This is so light and beautiful on the skin. A subtile beauty.

The initial fresh zingyness of ginger lime and bergamot that also is a little sweet from the fruityness of the apple and the jasmin is quite intoxicating and lovely at the same time making this at least from the beginning a very summery and fun take on a cool clean musky freshie. Underneath lies the ambretolide and the ambroxan that together make up the signature musky-woody notes that can be found in many of the Juliette has a gun fragrances. The beginning is absolutely the best part of this fragrance. It’s light and zingy and cool in a spritzy funny way that sort of reminds me of sipping on a citrus/ginger infused ice cold cocktail sitting outside wearing a white clean shirt that just has come off the rack hanging outside to dry among flowers and summer fruits. But without any boozy ness really. At least I don’t get any boozy vibe off of this. Which to me is a good thing. Now I cannot say I have a super strong recollection of what a Moscow mule as a drink entails. But I guess it’s made up of vodka which I do not miss from this experience at all...😎. I rather instead like the contrast between the freshness and the light sweetness of the fruits an ginger combined with the mild jasmine vibe in contrast with the feeling of the woody notes and the musky ness coming from the ambroxan and ambretolide. The overall experience the first half hour or so is quite lovely. And I dare say that if the longevity of this had been ever so slightly better. This would easily make its way to my top five if not higher of most worn fragrances during the summer months. As that is how nice this initial composition is for me! Sadly though the top notes that bring on this intoxicating fresh goodness very quickly evaporates. First to go the zingy citruses and the ginger which take off sometime after the first half hour. After that you are left about an hour with a faint reminiscent of the Jasmine and the apple. But after that all that remains but which in contrast sits rather well are the dried down molecules of the ambroxan and ambretolide which makes this not much different in the dry down from Not a perfume or the superdose of the same. It is really sad because as a whole this is such a cool and modern take on a freshie. But alas to have to keep re/spraying more than once an hour is just too much. For me I find I use this as a pick me up on tired mornings while I get ready as by the time I am ready to put on a fragrance for the day - this will be all gone apart from the molecules. And since they can work for layering. I can put pretty much anything on top... The silage is initially light to moderate when it comes to the top and heart of the fragrance. But stronger from the molecules. Or at least for those who do pick up molecule scents and are not anosmic to them. But after the first hour the silage quiets down also from the molecules and it stays a lighter skin scent to a light moderate scent, again depending on how much you or others pick up of the ambroxan and ambretolide. Overall I know it is hard to make fresh scents with citruses last. But there are better options for that on the market these days that manages to hold on the the fullness of a composition for a few hours to almost a day at least. So I do find this to be a little bit of a missed opportunity. As from the point of the composition had it been able to last on the skin - this would have been top notch unisex super hit, if you ask me at least in the realm of fresh musky clean summer vibe scents. I notice that the Fragrantica note breakdown seems different from the brands description. And since they differ in a way that may be a bit misleading or unclear as far as woods and musks go I copied the original note breakdown from the website for those interested here: Top notes: Bergamote, Lime, Gingembre Heart notes: Jasmin, Apple Base notes: Ambretolide, Ambroxan ❣️

If someone were to ask me whether Moscow Mule is a good perfume, my response would be a confident "Yes." However, if the question were whether it is worth the investment, my answer would be a resounding "No." Although I genuinely enjoy this fragrance, whether worn alone or layered with Not A Perfume, I am convinced that there are numerous alternatives available that offer a similar scent profile at a more reasonable price point. While I haven’t personally tried Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue, I've heard it’s almost identical and comes at a fraction of the cost, typically under £40. It’s true that Juliette Has a Gun has gained considerable popularity over the past few years, and I can understand the appeal to some extent, but I still find the hype somewhat exaggerated. The biggest issue with JHAG's signature perfumes, in my opinion, is their almost non-existent sillage. Unless you have an exceptionally sensitive nose, you might struggle to detect the scent even when it’s freshly applied, and it typically lingers for no more than four hours—possibly even less, depending on your skin type. This is quite disappointing for an eau de parfum, which one would expect to have greater longevity. While I do own and frequently use this perfume, I would not recommend anyone purchase it at its exorbitant price.

In the opening, I got gin and lime. I know gin is not one of the fragrance notes, but that is what I smell. Must be that initial alcohol smell you get when you first spray any perfume. Then I smell the most authentic lime fragrance. Not just the juice, but the bitter rind too. I get a hint of ginger when it settles, but I do not get any other notes. To me this is fresh bitter lime from start to finish. My very first perfume was a sample of Tiffany & Love. I fell in love with that grapefruit opening. This started a hunt for other citrus fragrances. Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue, Light Blue Intense, Versace Yellow Diamond Intense, Alterier Orange Sanguine... I soon discovered other fruity notes, berry notes, fruity florals, florals, vanilla, oud, wood, spice... and now I literally want to smell EVERYTHING. At the beginning of my fragrance journey, I would have been delighted by this perfect lime. However, since I already have all the citrus perfumes I will ever need, when I find myself in a citrus mood, I will not be adding this to my collection. But if you are someone who is on the hunt for a clean authentic lime fragrance, this is it.

This fragrance could be called Juliet Has Multiple Personalities. I find Moscow Mule almost impossible to categorise. Just look at unusual assembly of notes. It starts firmly as a citrus aromatic, and smells remarkably like 4711 Acqua Colonia Lemon & Ginger 4711 at that time. It is about as fleeting as a cologne at this point too. Moscow Mule then reemerges some hours later, by which time it has morphed into a comfy woody musk. That too passes quickly, only to reappear as a warm, animalic scent with a resinous and almost balsamic feel. See what I mean? Multiple Personalities. Moscow Mule has many faces, and I enjoyed each one, but they are of such short duration that I never really get to know it long enough to decide if I admire the composition for its many facets, or if it’s just a mess. Ultimately I think that Moscow Mule is too fleeting in each phase to buy, which is a great shame, because with decent longevity, you would have three different and likeable fragrances in one.

I’ve never personally tried a Moscow Mule, but from what I am gathering this is a great interpitation of the coctail. The scent is transparent and obviously synthetic, but very appealing. On initial spray I get the gingerbeer, Lime and a fizzy metallic hora like what you would find in a ZIMA or Smirnoff ICE. As the scent developes although those notes remain present, I start to notice the apple and creamy woods from the sandalwood. When the scent reaches its final stage the Amboxan shines with a white floral musk that I do enjoy. Moscow Mule wears close to the skin for the majority of its life, but has good siage. I get 6-7 hours longevity on skin. As a side note I share this scent with my wife and the dry down differs on both our skin. I rate this an 8.5 /10. Great for warm weather, work and daytime events. The comparisons to D&G light blue and/or Versace Man eau fraiche are there, but IMHO this wears different on my skin and is better composed.

I love this perfume. It’s warm and peppery, both in a gingery and pink pepper way. It’s more of a perfect ginger that drys down to ginger powder. It’s sexy, it’s yummy, it’s a great blind buy imo. But as much as I love it I cannot recommend it based on its price. It doesn’t last long honesty, I feel like I use it more like a body mist since after 2-3 hours it’s pretty much gone (tho it does stick well to cotton, but it doesn’t really project. It does leave a trail but the trail only lasts as a quick “oh that smells good” before it’s gone). I’ve gotten a lot of compliments while wearing it, I do think it’s great with layering and it does usually last longer after a fresh shower. i personally will be repurchasing but I’ll do it with a frown :(

I haven’t smelt the cocktail itself, but I was looking for a less expensive alternative to Byredo’s Gypsy Water. I’m really surprised that the two perfumes haven’t been compared on this page as I think they smell really similar on first spray. Having tested both out on my skin, Moscow Mule lasted longer by a good few hours. The longer it’s out of my skin the nicer the smell became, settling into a beautiful warm bergamotty scent. I’ve often gone for really gourmand scents in the past, so I’ve been looking for something a bit more on the woody, fresh and grown up side. I feel like she could be the one 🍋💛

Moscow Mule gives off a crispier version of Not a Perfume, with a little more ‘va-va-voom’. It’s very flirtatious without being sickly sweet. The combination of spice, citrus and musk gives off a chill ‘it girl’ energy. Maybe it’s because I’m a diehard JHAG stan, (or maybe it’s because a moscow mule is my favourite cocktail), but I cannot get enough of the classic ‘Juliette amber’ notes joining the lime, bergamot, and ginger. A definite winner for me. Excited to see it’s performance in the warmer months.

smells like a g&t to me? probably just because i get lemon and lime and liquor, but no ginger. it's kind of nice but not really that interesting, though i think if it had better sillage i could have loved it. i always want my freshies to be kind of astringent, too-clean in the way vodka is lol i do get a weird burning rubber note right as it starts to dry but like whatever I can barely smell this perfume on myself unless my nose is right against my wrist anyway!

This is a scent that really needs to settle into your skin for complete appreciation. The citrus and ginger and iso makes this bubbly and zesty and musky all at once. The wood notes ground it into something rich but still effervescent. I DO get a little bit-- just a hint--of Light Blue, but I think Moscow Mule is much better. Definitely unisex. Definitely something you should road test first, unless collecting musks is your thing. I have this down as a love.

This is a great "skin scent" with added projection/longevity. I enjoy these innovative 'molecule' fragrances and find they act very graciously on my skin. As described below, this is effervescent, refreshing, light, fizzy and nearly a photo-realistic rendition of a cocktail. I think it would be more appropriate on a man, or a casual lady, on me I feel like it's too relaxed for my own tastes but I do see the appeal of it. Overall very enjoyable. 7/10

This is quite long lasting, but easy to go anosmic to. I get a lot of ambroxan, like Not a Perfume, but with sparkling and almost-edible lightly sugary ginger ale with a dash of juicy and tart green bergamot-lime. Very effervescent, with an underling sweetness and skin musk. It kind of reminds me of a more foodie version of Mugler Cologne, which ends up being more floral-bitter-green than spicy-bubbly-green, but both have a skin-amber in the base.

I ordered a bunch of Juliet has a Gun perfumes and they are likable. This one was pleasant to wear in hot summer heat as it`s fresh and fun but it last no more than 30 minutes. The smell itself is nothing special, really simple, fresh and uncomplicated. Enjoyable - sure. The price is like niche perfume but staying power worse than Avon (which sometimes is impressive). Because of that I have to say it`s not worth the price.

Just used up a sample sprayer. This is the only JHAG frag I've tried - from reading reviews of other compositions it seems that they tend to be soft skin-scents. This is no different. It's a soft, inoffensive light citrus. Very fresh. Not what I usually go for, but I didn't mind it. Doesn't inspire strong feelings. I wouldn't purchase a FB. For reference I am a 26 yo woman and I wore this during summer.

It smells like a cold ginger ale - really reminiscent of a Moscow Mule cocktail. It’s truly a unisex fragrance. This perfume is very refreshing, especially in hot weather - it really cools you down and feels effortlessly wearable. I usually reach for it on days when I can’t decide which perfume to wear. It’s versatile and easy to wear, making it my go-to choice on those days.

Light and fresh. Primarily bergamont, hedione (reminisce of jasmine only dewier), and ginger. Settles nicely into a woody musk. Great spring/summer daytime scent for those who don't want something overpowering. Moscow Mules are one of my favorite drinks. This juice smells similar minus the vodka. I might add, if you are not into bergamont or any citrus, this is not for you!

This is bright and woody - absolutely a green scent! To be honest, the lime is so faint I didn't even pick up on it until I read the notes. As someone who prefers sweet, woody perfumes I'm pleased with how this fades and dries down - it turns into less of a harsh citrus and more into a, effervescent, sweet, and clean musk. It is citrus for those who dislike citrus.

The ginger and bright lime make this an enjoyable summer scent. It's delicious. Unfortunately, it doesn't last long. I am inspired to find more ginger fragrances after this one! It's the only fragrance from this house that I've truly enjoyed, I think because the notes are distinguishable and unique. I won't be purchasing though due to the poor lasting power.

Not bad! I could see a wide variety of people enjoying this and it’s good for multiple seasons/occasions. The pear scent from JHAG is my all time fav, this one has a similar musky base but I don’t get too much citrus from it. On my skin it smells like a sticky, sweet and spicy ginger chew. I will be gifting it to a friend who wears Spicebomb religiously.

This is fun and summery, though it doesn't merit entering the standard rotation. A fun little cocktail scent for a fun little cocktail night with the girls. This is the fragrance for those outfit moodboards based on different drinks (you know the ones, knee-high boots, short skirts, sequins and glossy skin). Nicely alcoholic and realistic, very fresh.

The scent in itself, I love. The performance and sillage is where it really lacks. There's little-to-no projection of scent and fades pretty quickly. Within minutes of spraying on my forearm, I can only smell it if my nose is literally to my wrist. Perhaps if there were an 'intense' version, this would be a perfect fresh summer/spring fragrance.
