Oil Fiction

I recently ordered a few samples from Juliette has a gun (Oil Fiction, Banana Rush, Sunny side up and Lady Vengeance. I already own Lust for Sun and Vanilla Vibes). I find it really strange that they all have abysmal ratings here on Fragrantica, despite their quality. All the aforementioned, I found they were OK/pleasant/wearable in the opening, but God, I got smitten with every one of them on the drydown (maybe the drydowns share similar traits, need to double-check). What is happening here? One needs patience for sure, but is it chemistry as well? Now to the fragrance: Oil Fiction is quite the people pleaser. I get a fragrance that is soapy and creamy (perhaps the tuberose, which in this case ain't indolic or bubble-gummy), with a slight woody undertone, perhaps even saffron. If I'd need to summarise it, Oil Fiction smells like a very expensive soap. I do not get triggered by moderately animalic fragrances, so not sure if that is what puts people off.

I'm not going to apply this one to my skin yet because I have a lot of samples to go through. But this is really interesting. I have been burnt out of this scent profile for a while now, but I think this is a fresh take on it. It's spicy, but herbal, and that tuberose adds a floral/creamy aspect I really enjoy. I find this to be incredibly unisex, and likely a fall or winter scent. Note: I don't know the difference between this one as a new release and the 2013 Oil Fiction. I figured my review belongs under this listing because I bought my sample this week.

I ordered samples from their site Liquid Illusion an Oil Fiction the new one and the Oil Fiction the old one full size. I don't have them yet, but when I ask way there is big difference at the price between the old and the new, they answer because in the old one more expensive materials are used.

Probably a downgrade from a more exclusive line of fragrances to a normal one. Same as when Tom Ford Oud Minerale and others went from Private Blend to Signature lines.

Nichekings, I think they went "out of production" and are being re-released? MANY FEWER listed notes than the original... OIL FICTION.

How are these new? They've been out for years now. Is it an extrait?
