14Hour Dream

I love 14 Hour Dream! A vanilla/patchouuli/iris root/saffron bomb. But I can’t help but feel that it reminds me instantly of something else I have smelled already. It’s a smoky, resinous, spicy, woody vanilla, like so many other fragrances on the market. This scent DNA is the most common scent profile of go to fragrances for cold seasons. It’s very easy going and mass appealing, if you’re into a spicy, patchouli vanilla fragrance. You probably own this with slight variations, I definitely do! It’s beautifully done, well balanced between the notes, smooth, strong but with a minimal sillage. The part that shocked me the most. Being composed around so many heavy duty ingredients, I was expecting something to be the type of fragrance you can smell before you see me coming. I love it for the way it smells, I like it for the way it performs, I don’t like it for being so expensive, therefore I would not consider getting a full bottle of 14 Hour Dream. It does smell similar to many other niche fragrances on the market in 2024, and there’s nothing about it making it outstanding. To give credit where credit is due, this perfume was launched nearly 10 years ago, in 2016, so probably back then this DNA wasn’t as mainstream as it is nowadays! I don’t have or smelled any of the fragrances in the reminds me of section, but I am reminded instantly of something else that I have: Vanilla Royale Sugared Patchouli 64 by Kayali but a more refined blend. But for someone new to fragrances, 14 Hour Dream would be an awesome addition to their collection for cold weather.

Saw it in Selfridges, London first. Lovely packaging and makes my heart beat faster as a vinyl freak (it has a vinyl record atop the top cap). Nice juice! Love the strong vanilla base and sandalwood/ cedar framework. However, the initial burst of saffron, ginger, iris, et al evaporates far too quickly and the main chorus is sung by vanilla, cedar and sandalwood. It is not ground-breaking and you have most likely smelled something similar like this before. But it is the overall package and the packaging that really sells the juice. The juice is good but not great. There is so much more superior product out there and personally at £150 (if I remember correctly) I would expect better. Verdict: 5/10 for juice as it is very sweet and the vanilla is too dominant, not allowing other notes to come through. It turns smelling cheap after 30 minutes. Packaging: 10/10. They really nailed that part.

If I’m not mistaken this is the Floyd/67 festival one? I’ve gotta say...way to capture that vibe. This has a hippy dippy vibe to it from a patchouli bias but that’s not the whole story by any stretch, the sweetness and rounded body, accented by vanilla and sandalwood. It’s a grievous fragrance with a good heart and ties in with the darker 90’s grunge one. This has more Optimism about it, as did the 60’s (if you don’t count the wars and the civil unrest!) and this is more representative of the free love and musical revolution. It’s not psychedelic or wacky though and the drydown might be a little ordinary but I enjoyed the ride.

First let me say this can be worn by anyone! Such a beautiful patchouli fragrance. Powdery and soft. the vanilla really smooths it out. I can detect every note in this. The orris comes out more in the dry down on my skin. Funny I get even a bit of fruity/ floral in this. This is not a sharp patch at all. I will be wearing this a lot in the winter months. Woodiness comes through once settled. I really want to try more from this house. 14 Hour Dream is definitely a favorite 10/10

I can see the music reference here - patchouli is strong with this one. Psychadelic... Not so much. Unless you count a slightly medicinal ginger note for the first hour. Still, this is a very pretty fragrance for fall-winter, a bit edgy, but very wearable. The lingering patchouli/vanilla note can be felt even on the next day on clothes and hair.
