Kajal's Masa, launched in 2023 and crafted by the talented nose Marc Daniel Heimgartner, is an intriguing unisex fragrance that captures a beautifully harmonious balance of contrasting notes. Despite patchouli being one of my least favorite notes, in Masa, it is crafted with a remarkable finesse. The rose, too, often a note I shy away from, finds its perfect counterpart in patchouli. Here, they dance together in a way that avoids the heaviness often associated with either. Instead, they float harmoniously in the middle, creating a serene balance that is both grounding and uplifting. The addition of cardamom and petitgrain enhances this beautiful scent, introducing subtle spice and citrus that enrich the experience without overwhelming it. The ginger and bergamot, while initially bold, take a backseat, allowing the patchouli and rose to shine in their own right,here they are the Stars As Masa settles into its base notes, a warm embrace of vetiver, amber, vanilla, violet, guaiac wood, and Atlas cedar emerges. This foundation offers depth and longevity, leaving a soft, inviting trail that lingers on the skin. The vanilla adds a comforting sweetness, while the woodiness of guaiac and cedar provides an earthy contrast that beautifully echoes the patchouli from earlier. In essence, Kajal's Masa is a masterclass in balance and harmony. So, I purchased a decant of Kajal Masa and think it smells freakin' BEAUTIFUL! I find it unisex leaning slightly masculine bc of that lingering Vetiver, Atlas Cedar and that slight smokiness along with something piney or "Green" in the mid. I get that fragrances/taste are totally subjective, but why on earth are some peaple saying this bad in any way!? Lol. The ONLY complaint I may possibly Nit Pick would be the sweetness. The performance is great and this fragrance is very unique and just smells amazing imo. 10 outta 10

Man, was I pleasantly surprised when I smelled this for the first time. The opening reminded me of Sprite, sans stickiness - fizzy and fresh. This is a masterful blend of earthy, musky, aquatic, herbaceous and citrusy. I thought this was just going to be something I can wear to smell fresh and approachable but I've been told by some women that it smells sexy on me. This is my second Kajal, first one I bought was Lamar. One hit after another.

Acquatic - green, perfectly unisex with pretty nice longevity

Masa by Kajal is one of those fragrances that clearly divides opinions - and after wearing it on skin, I understand why. It doesn’t follow a single clear direction, but instead balances several ideas at once. The opening is fruity and fresh, with mirabelle plum standing out immediately. It’s sweet, slightly juicy, and paired with a sharp citrus sparkle from grapefruit and bergamot. Ginger adds a mild heat, but nothing aggressive. At this stage, the scent feels clean and modern, almost cosmetic, but not unpleasant. After 20-30 minutes, Masa becomes more complex and less straightforward. Watery notes come through, giving it a light aquatic feel, while cardamom introduces a soft aromatic spice. Patchouli and vetiver start to show themselves more clearly especially the vetiver, which feels dry, woody, and a bit smoky. This contrast between sweet fruit and earthy woods is what may feel unbalanced to some noses. The drydown stays fairly consistent with this contrast. Mirabelle remains present, now smoother and less juicy, while amber, woods, and vetiver give the fragrance weight and longevity. Vanilla is subtle and supportive rather than sweet, and the overall impression is clean, woody, and slightly fruity. Performance is strong: good projection for the first few hours and solid longevity of around 8-10 hours on skin. Sillage is noticeable but not overwhelming. Season-wise, Masa works best in spring and autumn. It can be worn casually year-round, but it may feel too sweet or too earthy for very hot weather or formal office settings. Clearly unisex, though to my nose it leans slightly feminine due to the fruity and cosmetic facets. Not a safe blind buy, but definitely worth sampling if you enjoy fruity-woody fragrances with a modern, slightly unconventional balance.

SO the overall reviews on this is under 4.00 and I do not know why. It is a pleasant freshie with an airy feel touches of cedar, citrus, hint of spice tinge of vanilla. There is something slightly mentholated to my nose that I admit I dont like but it does not ruin it for me. Out of the whole house this is not top scent but I'd wear it occasionally and I would think someone with this on smelled fresh and unique. I'd slide it up to 3.9999...lol. There are better freshies but I dig this house. I like my scents to last and this house delivers on that. Decent offering.

This is nice. Very srong earthy notes for like the firts 2 hours. Gaiac Wood and Patchuli are the most apriciated. Dont get me wrong, it's good. Last on me a good 8 hours, with 1 to 2 hours with good projection. After that, it becomes a skin scent. But you still can smell it easily in the area where you initially applied. Pretty versitile. Kajal makes masterpieces. I encourage you to sample it first just in case.

Strong fruity scent with lots of sweet and earthy notes. That’s very powerful and has a lot of patchouli in the base. For my nose it’s slightly unbalanced and smells somewhat synthetic. Having finished my By Kilian journey, it's time to move onto the next chapter. I haven't quite decided what house to move onto yet, so I think I'll take this day to try something a bit more random. Today we have Masa by Kajal. This is one that I heard of in a random "Top 10" video on YouTube. I had never heard of the fragrance before, or even the house of Kajal. However, the person doing the video swore it was one of the best fragrances in his collection. So when I saw it come across my screen while searching for other fragrances, I figured I'd take a gamble on something new. Let's get into it; Scent: The opening is sweet, woody, and spicy. The primary notes I get are Mirabelle plum, vetiver, cardamom, and watery notes. The strongest of the notes are the Mirabelle plum and vetiver. The Mirabelle plum hits my nose first in the opening with a familiar sweet fruitiness. Familiar because it very much reminds me of the Mirabelle plum note I experienced in Jean Paul Gaultier's Scandal Absolu. Right alongside the Mirabelle plum is the vetiver with a big dose of woodiness with strong smoky and dusty facets. It is a very intense vetiver note, more intense than I'm used to from most fragrances with vetiver. Usually it's a supporting note, but it's unapologetically "in your face" in this opening. Up next is the cardamom and watery notes. The cardamom manifests as a warm, spicy, slightly camphorous accord. Not so camphorous that it's overly medicinal, but it's there. Lastly, the watery notes are present in the opening as an aquatic brightness, but it's pretty well obscured by the Mirabelle plum and vetiver. The dry down is woody, sweet, and ambery. The primary notes I get are Mirabelle plum, vetiver, amber, and cardamom. The strongest of the notes are still the Mirabelle plum and vetiver. The Mirabelle plum still has the same fruity and sweet accord from the opening, not much has changed there. The vetiver is still woody, smoky, and dusty as well. In this way, the dry down is very similar to the opening. This is followed by the amber and cardamom. The amber has emerged in the dry down to provide a base of deep and resinous sweetness. Lastly, the cardamom brings the same warm spiciness from the opening, but it is fairly muted against the other notes and doesn't have the same camphorous facet it had in the opening. Performance: Initial projection within the first hour is strong at around 6 feet. Sillage is strong as well with an easily noticeable scent trail. After a few hours the performance was largely unchanged. At around the 7 hour mark the projection was still about 4-6 feet and the scent trail was still easily noticeable. The fragrance became a skin scent around the 10-12 hour mark. When to wear: Masa is a fragrance that can be worn in during any season, day or night. The sweetness from the plum and amber lends itself well to cooler months, while the woodiness and watery freshness of the opening is suitable for the warmer months. In regards to occasion, I see Masa as more of a casual wearing fragrance. There's a bit too much sweetness behind it, and the vetiver is a little too aggressive for it to feel appropriate for anything formal or for office wear. Blind buy: Take JPG Scandal Absolu Pour Homme, make it unisex, and swap out sandalwood for vetiver; that's essentially what you have here. If that sounds good to you, this might be a safe blind buy for you. Final verdict: I'm ultimately conflicted on how I feel about Masa. One the one hand, I enjoy the Mirabelle plum accord. I liked it in Scandal Absolu, and I like it in this fragrance. However, vetiver isn't typically a note I go for, and the vetiver is very aggressive in this fragrance. When it comes to performance, this fragrance definitely has it going on. Strong projection and scent trails for the first few hours, and lasting about 10-12 altogether before fading away. Versatility is pretty good for this fragrance as well. You can wear it for pretty much any season as long as it's a casual setting. Mass-appealling is not what I'd call this fragrance though. Supporting vetiver notes are usually pretty safe, but when they're as loud as they are in here it can turn some people off. In conclusion, I don't think Masa is for me. Scandal Absolu has the same Mirabelle plum note, but without the aggressive vetiver; so I'll probably just stick to that. Scent: 7/10 Longevity: 8/10 Sillage: 8/10

Nose Note #1040 Well, it's objectively a pleasant and safe fragrance. But it hurts me so much, because it smells terribly familiar... Something very designer-like. Something like a Boss The Scent flanker or like an Invictus aquatic flanker. Basically a masculine scent made a bit more unisex. A bit too sweet for a man, and not in a way of Ultra Male, which is perfectly masculine and super sweet. And I'd say the calone/aquatic accord is not very beautiful. I don't know why people vote for it being overpriced. It costs around $75 which is not that pricey. 6/10

An absolute mess. It’s earthy, fruity, woody, aquatic, spicy, sweet? It’s like Kajal took every accord in men’s fragrances and just threw it into a bottle. I absolutely LOVE Kajal as a brand, but this is not it.

fem leaning , fruity top, aquatic mid and patch and amber sort of stop it from going full fem. not masculine by any stretch of the imagination. at best unisex fem leaning.

The reviews above do no justice here. First off, right off the back, I placed this on and then threw my coat on, got outside, worked, and could still get whiffs of what seemed like a Sugary coated Grapefruit and Cardamom in the breeze. 6 plus hours later, got home and could still pick up the scent with my own nose. That's just the longevity. Got to work today and noticed a coworker smelling of Erba Pura, and he said "No. What you had on the other day! That stuff smelled good. You even left and it was still lingering around. That's how strong this stuff is (Give or take I do 2 hand sprays, 3 at the neck). Therefore people placing "weak" or "not long lasting", I don't know about that based on my experience from the brand. From Dahab as a favorite and now to this one! My best bet to those is if your unsure, order a sample or small size via Maxaroma, Scentsplit or one of those and go from there.

Tested a couple of times on skin and paper. In my opinion, there is some strange twist in this, something sour, close to the intimate parts sour. Not a blind buy. June 10, 2024. It is not a repulsing sour note. Knowing that the house of Kajal offers the highest quality perfumes, Masa needs a closer look.

Tested this one out today, got to admit that the opening is wonderful, the first blast is very fresh citrus forward although it lasts 3.2 seconds. A very rare unappealing smell settles after that into a burnt corn tortilla chips that are being soaked in dirty water. 01/10 Hard Pass

I would call this a pretty standard and forgettable scent but the fuckoff crazy cap and packaging shot any chances of that out of the water. Genuinely who looks at something like this and isn’t repulsed by how tacky it is. It’s offensive

It smells like I called a taxi. A 2004 Subaru Legacy with a leather interior arrived, the interior is squirting with gasoline, and the taxi driver has a bag of rotten plums leaking under the passenger seat. Lovely! 67/10

On my skin and to my nose, it smells too fruity without any of the notes mentioned; it is overly sweet for what it should have been, too feminine for me. Should I layer it with something else to counterbalance it?

One of my blindbuy regrets. Can't stand the smell of this. Has some Lamar dna and i also have that. But Lamar is definitely good but this one. Really regret it. I hope i bought Homme 3 instead

Smells like woman shampoo. That fruit soapy smell that is common in those products. Not for men at all, but i can see woman 30+ like this one because of the female cosmetics vibe.

Starts out fruity, then the ginger comes through. After a while this smells very similar to Comme des garcons - Amazing green. Just a bit sweeter.

Has the same herbal dna as Lamar. Pretty feminine to my nose. It’s like ferragamo f black with a cardamom and ginger note Overall- 6/10
