Jako

This is a forgotten juice which I used way back in the end of the 90's and wasnt thinking anything special about it at the time! Now I just received a sample from a friend and accessed this baby again after so many years. Not only was it a flashback in time but I also realized what a fine fragrance this is. Very addictive with its smokey plum main accord which develops and stays on right after the citrusy start. Although at some stage its has a powdery aspect, this never oversteps the line so the whole composition remains very well blended and balanced throughout its development and nice woods develop with the gentle incense. Very good as a signature scent and for almost any occasion. Its has a yummy, addictive charater. Love it!

One of the best Sweet Fragrance out there. Lovely scent and the After Shave has even more Sillage then the EDT. I love both but the EDT has a Creamy drydown uncomparable to anything else. Sad the longevity is poor on me or its stays close to the skin what is sad. Worst ever could happen its discontinnued and so i bought everything i could find to save this masterpiece for me. I think 10 Bottles should be enough :-)

oh hell no i couldnt just let it go.i got me another bottle and itis just beautiful.i still dont know what the hell i'm smelling but i like it.it used to be that i would get an aspirin scent when wearing this.aspirin?i think this is more of a spring cologne than anything.brings back many memories of the 90's.not great projection but longevity is pretty good.

gave this one away back in the 90's. i didnt hate it,i just didnt know who i was supposed to be when wearing it.what?who?huh? i didnt understand this cologne and had no one explain zip to me about it.i would've appreciated it today but i will just let it go.maybe the ginger?plum?

I miss this, and the worst part is, the only thing I can remember is that it was a sweet/woody masculine scent. I had 2 bottles, and they were gone within a year (1999), and then I could not find it anymore. Have not tested it since then..........SAD!

Found a bottle for a decent price, and I will say this lasts forever! Smell is great!

Karl Lagerfeld Jako.... this is a very nice allrounder and reflects a bit on Karl Lagerfelds origin. He was basically the opposite of the image of his city of birth. He was born in Hamburg and most northern Germans are a bit quieter, humble....they don't shout, they are reserved but warm hearted....once you gained access to them and they welcome you, you got a true friend for live....no superficiality...no fakeness. Jako is not groundbreaking but you can wear it to any occasion and it never feels out of place. It is a good allrounder, it is well blended. Smokey soft plum with a flowery powdery background. Others used figs, Karl smoked the plum.

I bought this scent recently , and I have to say I agree with 'bronstein's' review (about how similar this smells to dried fruits ). What I would say is that it smells more like the dried fruit you get in pot pouri , Imagine mixing the dried fruit in scented fruity oil then going back to smell it some time later . I personally like it and I think it smells quite unique (as in non generic) Love the plum scent and mixed with the sandalwood base I find I keep going back to this fragrance :), I would say its for cooler weather -I'm not sure how this would smell in a warm enviroment ie club /pub etc .

A review elsewhere summed it up: "...the fragrance 'blurs' a bit into an uncomplicated, office-friendly blend of slightly dried garden fruits and softened woodiness." That's pretty much it. The scent of Jako may remind you of a rich, good quality skin lotion, the wearer of which smells well kempt and clean with a fragrance that is noticeable but does not demand your attention. Like soft music heard from a few rooms away, Jako is somewhat muted and so should be appropriate for quieter settings and occasions. Unique enough to enjoy but don't pay too much.

Awesome masculine plum scent. Why it never got more popular, I don't know Masculine, powerful and sweet. Way too strong for summer. It's obvious for this type of scent, but apparently not to my dad. He splashed his face with his Jako after shave on a hot day in July, and jumped into the car towards summer holiday (sighs).

Jako is classified as a woody-spicy scent and ended up not becoming very well known. Its fragrance does not explode and brings a fruity and ripe output, slightly sweet, in which the plum dominates together with the grapefruit. This initial phase is not artificial but also does not show much quality. And that, perhaps, is the reason why it didn't become a hit in the late '90s, despite the weight of the Lagerfeld name. In the same year, fragrances like Pi (Givenchy), Déclaration (Cartier), Boss Bottled (Hugo Boss), and Bvlgari Black (Bvlgari) brought much more innovation and quality, which is why they became sales successes all over the world, while Jako is too soft and inexpressive compared to the examples mentioned. On the skin, the fragrance is not as spicy as expected and ends up following a more oriental path, with greater evidence of the creamy facets of sandalwood, in addition to the sweetness from the vanilla. Unfortunately, it leaves something to be desired in regard to the strength of cardamom, the freshness of ginger, and the smokiness of incense. And the result ends up being an ordinary fragrance, which only works in workplaces where you don't want to disturb those next to you, or even in moments of greater intimacy, such as romantic encounters. Jako has low projection and good durability but tends to tire the sense of smell, although it grows on the user the more it is worn. It's the type of fragrance I would recommend to a teenager who has started dating and asks his parents for help when buying a perfume. In my opinion, what this product did best was to highlight the plum note in a way that was successfully enhanced a few years later when the Lacoste brand launched Pour Homme, which is amazing. Other than that, Jako is anything but memorable.

It smells a bit like dry fruits. I'm also not sure if this one's good or not, let alone whether it's a good idea to wear something like that. Well, at least Lagerfeld manages to continue its distinctive feature of releasing controversial male fragrances. Someone out there loves it, else it would have been discontinued. **

I do not find this to be a sweet fragrance, though there might be a tiny amount of sweetness (meaning this is miles away from A*Men sweetness). What's amazing here is how subtle it is, yet the notes are there and the ingredients seem to be very high quality (rosewood can come across as "hairspray" to a lot of people, but that is what it's supposed to smell like, so if you don't like it that's fine, but it's not "synthetic"). This is not a party fragrance for the Jersey Shore guys. This is for the aficionado. Projection ("sillage") is no better than moderate, but longevity is very good. If you are used to Le Male, 1 Million, etc., just forget this one for the time being, and if you find yourself getting headaches from your scents, you might want to give this one a try at that point. My major problem with it is that it's a bit too simple (I detect no vanilla, for example).

A citrus and plum opening turns into a powdery lactonic drydown with aldehyde fixatives giving the citrus notes freakish longevity. It's easy to like, easy to wear, easy to forget. This was Lagerfeld's belated entry into the 90's unisex fragrance market which was dominated by CK One at that time. I still have an almost full bottle and wore it today for the first time in almost 15 years. The best thing about it is that you can tell it's mostly synthetic stuff but it isn't off-putting. In fact, it's very well-balanced and well-blended. People who don't like perfume will like Jako, or at least tolerate it. But while it's pleasant enough, it really doesn't have much of a character--only about two or three generations better than the citrus/aquatic/ozonic crowding the market nowadays. I don't get why it's fetching as much as $150 on eBay.

A perfumer's organ's worth of notes that in the end don't amount to much. Jako is thin and über-synthetic in the conventional Lagerfeld style. A queer, medicinal plum note dominates, taking a powdery nose-dive towards the end. I wore this briefly in the 90s but soon got over the initial interest triggered by that very same plum. Jako made me feel even cheaper than I already was. No massive loss should it have been discontinued, even though I'd like a tiny decant for old times' sake.

I find this to be an addicting fragrance. It's almost like dessert except for the woodiness. I'd like to keep a bottle around. Am just out of the bottle I had and am ordering another. Excellent product ---fruit, spice, vanilla, wood.

Awfull boring smells like expired fruits that have been squashed maybe its the plum but this is just drab and awfull just no dont buy it for the high price tags ebay has them for if anyone is interested i have a bottle for sale

i used this scent several times, but still can't make up my mind whether it's good or bad. it's spicy-gingery-incense or citrus-incense. it's more suitable for spring and fall rainy days, inmho

Haven't tried this in years. I didn't like this in the 90's - I found it too ordinary. I would like to try this again, my tastes have changed.
