Santal Segar

Man, I am working on Katana perfume discovery set and Santal Segar is a fantastic fragrance. It’s very heady, very beautiful, thick and sticky, and very much a mood setter. I am not sure what the story behind this fragrance is, but the mood that this fragrance creates is similar to a relaxing, lazy Sunday filled with doing absolutely nothing. In fact, as I am writing this, this Santal Segar reminds me of Masion Margiela lazy Sunday if lazy Sunday was over the top good. After 2 sprays I sat down and enjoyed the air around me. To my nose, this feels like a somewhat linear fragrance. Off the initial spray I get a heavy dose of a realistic rose that I can almost reach out and grab balanced by a creamy sandalwood with a hint of vanilla. After a couple of minutes the rose morphs into what it would seem to be akin to smelling roses in a flower shop. Whatever the other floral notes are they show up in a big way but not in an overpowering way. The roses are still the starstar of the show. After the opening settles, there is a coolness or maybe a freshness to the presentation which adds to the feeling of being in a flower shop. I would place that feeling on the yuzu and bergamot combination. This feeling of shopping for flowers sticks around for about 2 hours. I have to admit that as big as the opening is it’s disappointing how quickly the fragrance finds a place to rest. It’s not a skin scent but the scent bubble is much smaller probably less than arm length. For my liking I want this fragrance to stay big so everyone else can be forced to smell this. But that is just my taste. Although this is mainly a roses sandalwood combo, as it tones down the sweetness of the vanilla and tonka peaks through more. At about 4 hours in, the fragrance plays close to the skin and I almost forget that it was there. Except, man is it still there. Somewhere between the 5th to 6th hour mark, although it is not listed in the note make up this becomes animalic in the dirtiest and sexiest way. Kind of in the way that you left the florist with your flowers, went home, made a batch of vanilla cupcakes, then worked up a sexual sweat. It’s all in the air here and it is gorgeous. Overall this is FB worthy. This is sexy in the most unexpected way. Sexy in a way that will keep you smelling yourself or whomever until your senses are exhausted. Yet, when all is said and done and you feel like you can’t take no more you’re diving back in for another sniff. This is really good stuff from start to finish.

opens up slightly green/herbaceous, spicy with a dry woody element, mixed with the rose and supporting floral. it's not sweet at first and might come off weird for those who hasn't smelt natural sandalwood. it eventually dries down creamier, slightly acidic and aromatic because of that yuzu, it also gets "rounder/softer" and slightly sweeter but never to the point where it's very sweet, just a pinch of sweetness in there. overall, this is an entry level to an artisanal rose-sandalwood fragrance. easy to reach and wear, pretty good!

Santal segar is my favorite Sandalwood fragrance.Very pleasent sandalwood and vanilla blended with florals and amber.You must try it if you are a sandalwood lover.Its very natural smelling with good longevity.

Opens strong, full, citrus, refreshing, with a first whiff of yuzu, jasmine, creamy sandalwood and tons of caramelized rose, fleshy, cold, red, velvety, explosive long and never leave completely the grip to the bottom. Everything smeared on that true sandalwood bed, dense, therapeutic, sweet and palatable, which is becoming more buttery, in a drydown of amber infinite crystal, tonka and vanilla. An excellent Mister Sandal, with a usual combination but with a strong and spiritual character. Unisex, tending towards the feminine. I see it very addict when worn with leather garments. Genuine!

Pleasant floral woody scent with primarily rose and sandalwood. In addition to these two main notes, there are hints of vanilla, citrus, tonka bean and slight amber. The unisex scent is on the lighter side and has moderate sillage and projection and good longevity. Overall nice, not hugely exceptional. Enjoy!

none of the sweet ingredients listed is prominent, and the rose is very very subtle. its mostly just a natural sandalwood mono-scent, generously decorated with orange peel (or smth very citrusy! must love citruses in fragrances) & very light florals. what bothers me is a sour undertone, reminiscent of a wet wood smell. like when wood has been soaked in water for quiet some time and gets that sour, a bit bitter green-woody smell? maybe its the particular sandalwood they use here that has that effect.. i have some pure sandalwood oils in my collection but they don't have that quality (one is from Jamaican distillery and another one from brazil) it reminds of something ive def smelled before, but I can't pinpoint what it is upd I think its the yuzu blended with wood and rose that gives that sour tone.

The opening is beautiful, the mix of Yuzu with creamy sandalwood that has a slight dry smokiness, hints of lemony rosy sweetness and a beautiful floral accord which smells like jasmine but more like ylang-ylang, I think it may be a combination of both. However, in the drydown the scent gets sweeter and lose the freshness of the opening, the floral notes disappear and the rose becomes more prominent, with sandalwood still present. In the far drydown, the fragrance becomes like a familiar rose-amber attar. Overall, it is a high quality sandalwood fragrance with a beautiful opening. I wish if the rose was toned down a bit in the drydown and if the perfumer used a lighter base.

This comes on quite acidic from the get-go. I can detect the sandalwood, I can sense the citrus elements, and the rose is loud and clear, but there is something else that is a little 'off'. Metallic. Bitter. Artificial. Not a fan of this element, and as a result, I'm not 100% jazzed about the scent as a whole. Even without the aforementioned elements, I'm not wowed by this, anyway, but that one component kinda makes it certain. Not for me...
