Freedom Musk Matcha | 45 Eau de Parfum

I held off buying anything from the Freedom line for the longest time because as a huge Kayali fan, I knew I’d end up loving them and then be disappointed that most of them are only available in a 10ml. Eventually, FOMO got the better of me and I bought the small 1.5ml sample set. Then I immediately purchased the full 10ml sample set, because of course, they are all fantastic. Musk Matcha is my favourite from the collection, closely followed by Musk Bouquet and Musk Latte. Frustratingly, I wasn’t too bothered about Musk Santal - which is the only one you can get in a bigger size! Musk Matcha is creamy, a little fresh and green in the beginning. It’s not too grassy or sweet. Then the oat milk comes in with this delicate sweetness and signature musk. I don’t know why it works, but it just does! This was everything I was hoping Define Me’s Nearly Nude would be (which I do still enjoy) but here, the oat milk and musk really take centre stage, whereas NN is soapy and herbal. Mona - please give the people what they want and release these as bigger sizes!

LOVE. i can't stop sniffing my wrists. my favorite from the collection. such a lovely (not to mention addicting) warm matcha latte in oat milk scent. not too green, not too sweet, not too citrusy, not too overpowering. cannot stress how much of a nice blend this one is. another win for the KAYALI brand. it's very likeable in my opinion- but don't get me wrong, nothing here is generic... it's different without alienating buyers who would normally buy mass appealing perfumes. although you have to love lactonic perfumes to be into this, so i wouldn't say it's blind buy safe as lactonic translates to sour to some skin chemistry. i just happen to really favor this kind of DNA. call me crazy, but i can see this being an all year round scent. once they release this in their bigger bottles, it's OVER for yum pistachio and this would be my go-to kayali perfume. as for the "opening is better than the dry down" reviews, i think it has more to do so with the performance. it's just not long lasting. sadly.

wow! This is really special. I adore this scent profile; it's so unexpected for a "Sephora brand". It smells very niche. It opens with a bright, slightly citrusy matcha powder, then settles into a cozy, warm and sweet musk. The oatmilk really brings this to a new level for me. The drydown is enveloping and comforting. It isn't sickly sweet or lactonic in a dessert way its more of a dusty, nutty and smooth sweetness. It's just so pleasant to my nose! I typically really struggle with lactonic perfumes because they tend to be wayyyyyy too sweet and get cloying very quickly, but I can never get tired of this! If you prefer something sweeter or are expecting a gourmand matcha latte scent, this might not be for you. I don't think it's a safe blind buy. You have to like the smell of oats!! But if you love the nutty, almost dusty and earthy quality of matcha powder and mild smooth sweetness like me, you will probably love this. Wish there was a full size!

Wow it really does smell like an iced matcha latte!! It's sooooo creamy and lactonic - it never goes sour like so many milky perfumes. The bergamot and apple in the opening help give the perfume a bit of complexity that I think is much needed. They provide some brightness and even a little bit of fruitiness that is really interesting! After the opening settles, the oatmilk note REALLY starts to evolve alongside the earthiness and greenness of the matcha. Musk matcha is less sweet than I was expecting, instead remaining more authentic to a matcha latte experience which is less sugary sweet and more creamy and earthy instead. The only negatives are the projection and longevity are not the best - as expected with Kayali. You'll definitely get whiffs of yourself for a couple hours but overall it leans more intimate. Rating: 7.8/10

I'm surprised how much I like this! I smelled it at Sephora the other day and I couldn't stop thinking about it, to the point that I ended up picking it up the next day. It's grassy and little sweet but also slightly creamy/smooth. To me it definitely does smell like matcha. I'm afraid to wear it though because I know this is definitely NOT going to smell good to everyone... I'm also finding that it sits better on clothes than on skin for me. Maybe I'll wear this to bed or something.

I looooove this perfume. It’s a very sweet and elevated matcha, with the addition of musk. Cold weather friendly. I’m also a true Haitian girlie and love a sweet vetiver accord. I didn’t really vibe with the matcha note in Princess by Killian and thought I was just a matcha hater but some past purchases have convinced me otherwise (So Matcha Business candle by FM). If you like to layer with perfume oils, try the matcha scents from Siren Song Elixir’s Boba Shoppe line.

I bought the whole Freedom musk collection and this one is definitely my favorite. Unfortunately i don’t get too strong of a matcha note.. But on me the oatmeal, Vanilla, and milk notes are really prominent which I love. Its a super creamy and cozy fragrance and almost salty in a way? Which im guessing is the oatmeal and milk notes. After a while it almost turns fresh in kind of a baby lotion way. Love layering this with Vanilla 28, and Super unisex in my opinion.

On me, these notes smell like a delicious vanilla green tea latte. The notes are pretty linear, but last longer than any Kayali perfume. I know, I know, they are meant to be layered, but the performance is typically weak even after layering. Nonetheless, this is on of the few scents from this house that smells intriguing, unique and lasts 3-6 hrs on me. I grabbed the travel bottle but will buy a full bottle if released. This is a must have for my collection.

Waited so long to try this, & now i’m kind of mad that i did. This took me by surprise i had really low expectations. Kayali is usually a hit or complete miss for me. The opening is a photorealistic matcha & matcha tea leaves. It’s bitter at first but oh so lovely as a matcha fan. 10 minutes in you start to get that creamy milky note, & lastly the musk shines in the end. It’s super lactonic, cozy, & super yummy. A true matcha latte scent in my opinion.

This is comfort. It’s 2009 and you’re fresh out of the bath and covered in Aveno lotion lovingly applied by mom. The evening brings a warm breeze and the orange sunlight is dappled on the slightly dusty walls of your childhood bathroom. She kisses your forehead and tucks you in as the earthy smell of early fall rushes into your open window. Your only job is to rest. Things are simple and sweet like the oatmeal you’ll eat for breakfast the next morning.

Open white flower bed you picked from the garden this morning, smelling the freshness of the morning dew in nature just bring tranquility to begin your day. You carefully placed the flowers on your breakfast table to look for an earthenware vase that matches the vibe. Grab your coffee cup and oat milk for breakfast on the way. Sipping your matcha latte with oat milk while you can still smell the flowers on the table is the perfect way to start my day.

Wow I didn’t think I would like this as much as I do! I think this is my first time experiencing oat milk as the star of the show, and omg, it’s so great?! It’s more prominent than the matcha somehow but the matcha is still there, adding some grassiness + green tea just behind that creamy oat milk. This is very soothing and relaxing. Kept me sane on a crowded bus this morning on my way to work.

So simple, soft and calming. The true perfect everyday, skin scent. But for how quiet and intimate it is, the price really is not worth it :( But this is seriously one of the best everyday type scents I've ever smelled!! I mostly smell the matcha, mate and musk. It's a very unique smell because its undoubtedly green but in a powdery, milky way. Not herbal or plant-y at all. I love her!!

Pretty addicting actually.. the opening specifically is heavenly but I really enjoy the whole wear process. I fr can’t stop smelling it. If Starbucks had an oat milk matcha cream cold foam whatever I’d imagine it’d smell like this !.. we need a full size of this one ASAP PLEASEEE

Starts off with a bright burst of bergamot, and settles in nicely to a grassy matcha, smoothed over by the oat milk, creamy sandalwood, and musk in the mid and dry down. Like I'm sipping a realistic, bright and sweeter matcha latte. Still creamy, but just the right amount of green and sweet. Perfect for clean matcha vibes.

Love this one! Probably my second favourite from the Freedom Musk line (first being musk santal). It's a realistic matcha latte, but the opening is a bright bergamot with a hint of vanilla. The more it settles on the skin the earthier, greener and more balanced it becomes, though the oat milk is present throughout.

a few months ago, I bought the dove turmeric milk & lemon drop body wash. I have been pining for ANY other body care items with a similar scent, and when I smelled this perfume in sephora I realized that it smells so similar! so so happy with this one. it was definitely my favorite out of the new freedom line.

A calm, green, powdery matcha fragrance that feels authentic rather than sugary. Great for matcha lovers and for fans of Kilian Princess (I am both) who want a greener, more grown up daytime option. The musk keeps everything soft and close to the skin, so it never becomes too sharp or too herbal.

For me, it's very reminiscent of oat based lotion. Not bold enough to hold my interest but its cozy and inoffensive, down to earth vibes, skin lotion scent. Can definitely get the matcha/mate on first spray. Dry down is creamy and musky, but still "Aveeno oat lotion".

Smells green and milky just like it should. I love it and I don't even like to drink matcha. Tested it along with other Kayalis and it is the only one that had good longevity. I like Kayali but poor perfomances make me not want full bottle,but this time I do!

Sweet matcha latte with oat milk and a hint of earl gray and chamomile tea. Relaxing, green zen type of scent. Not very simular to Matcha Meditatiton, but it has the same energy. Perfect for rainy summer day

What a gorgeous scent - the perfect gourmand while being soft & subtle enough for me to wear even in summer! My new favourite fragrance for sure. The bottle is very pretty as well !

I typically go for more fresh/citrusy scents, but I LOVE this. The matcha and oat are very noticeable and set this fragrance apart from more generic warm vanilla scents.

Smells very similar scent to the body shop's argan oil body butter which I love! I don't smell the green matcha, more like lightly roasted tea (if any)

love it! doesnt last veeery long tho. around 4 hours max on my skin. does project loudly though in the first hour or so. starchy, oat milk goodness!!!

Smells like cocoa soiree from Victoria Secret, but this also smells like if choco musk toned it down a bit and was a little more powdery.

It reminds me green stravaganza from Valentino. I have a bottle of it, so its redundat for me. Its nice but.

A frothed unsweetened REAL matcha oat-milk latte with one (1) pump of apple soap And I mean this in the most wonderful wonderful way God I love it. It's simultaneously a soft green scent, a shampoo/washed-hair scent, and like a bit aquatic/watery... A little mellow, a little bitter... fascinating combo. Heavy on matcha rather than milk, and also maybe it’s half mate half matcha. Anyhow, it's a soapy, slightly powdery, bit bitter, grassy frothed matcha; not a western-style sugar-cream vanilla milkshake with a pinch of green powder (not a diss on "white people matcha" literally at all, it's good in its own way!). If you like matcha because and not inspite of its bitter grassiness, then you'll like it. But no worries it's definetly wearable: it's certainly not super harsh, technically gourmand but really not food-ey, it's grounded but not heavy or really too grassy—it's a definite tea-like herbal, also with kinda that frothed feel—, and you'll find the projection is intimate. Plus it's a good type of clean-soapy to me, yes I know I like soap but it's not too pure-soap-ey really. I also think it's quite comforting, calming, soothing. Anyhow, I adore it. It's maybe even signature scent worthy for me; but it will never be, and I cannot bring myself to click the “Love” button, because ~$5 per ml is fucking dastardly. DASTARDLY. Mona pleasee make this in 100ml and increase the longevity while you’re at it. Also note: I love the bottle. Non-glass with a very secure cap (which is JUST my type) so I can carry it around safely, and Kayali atomizers are always awesome imo! Update: Performance improves over time! Also, I think they sell FBs of these now.............. Might have to cop

I'm not the biggest fan of Alexis Grugeon since I didn't really like either Capri in a Bottle nor the Cirque du Soleil perfume (they both smell very similar to me). But with this one he has finally redeemed himself in my eyes. It's my favourite in the freedom collection and it's definitely the most grourmand out of all the matcha perfumes I've tried. It's not the most realistic, though, since it's mixed with many other notes like bergamot, apple, oat and coffee, but it's still very pleasant. I personally don't smell the coffee, but I do get a lot of the other three notes and they sometimes take over the matcha. I'll try my best to describe other matcha perfumes, as a point of reference: Matcha Ice Cream: It smells delicious, but there's absolutely no matcha. It should have been called Lime Ice Cream. Je ne said quoi: it has a very savoury and almost ozonic opening that it's not my cup of tea (pun intended), but the drydown is very smooth thanks to the rice and the woods and a little bit sweet thanks to the tolu. Matcha Soft Serve: Is the drier and greener of the bunch and not particularly sweet, despite listing vanilla. Unfortunately, I've never tried Matcha Meditation or Milk & Matcha. As a fun fact, I'll add that the most realistic matcha scent I've smelled is not even a perfume, it's the Matcha Bubble Tea lip mask from Laneige.

I have purchased recently the Freedom Discovery Layering Set because I was super curious about Musk Matcha, Musk Bouquet and Musk Latte. But after trying Musk Matcha, my enthusiasm has gone down because this scent is more milk, oat and pralines than matcha or mate in my experience. It’s a light scent that reminds me of something I can’t put my finger on right now and has nothing exciting about it or unique. Which is what I wanted from Kayali. When they created Yum Pistachio, Utopia or Vanilla Candy Rock Sugar or Maui in a Bottle (to name just a few of my favourites from them) the fragrances were a representation of the title. With Musk Matcha, it’s something, but with so many different notes and accords, it’s a lot and nothing specifically for me. This is not smelling like matcha to me, but it smells good...Which is beyond the point and low key disappointing! I am happy to have the chance to try it, but personally, don’t need more than my sample when it comes to this particular scent from the set. It’s nice and soft and sweet, but nothing new.

The opening of this perfume can be too much, too synthetic and when I’m not in the mood it can be overwhelming and headacheyyyy however this can be and often is a lovely sweet, bright zesty, lemon tea opening. The middle is creamy, fragrant and buttery. Then the dry down is that typical beautiful Kayali vanilla but this time with praline which honestly is to die for. I often think Kayali perfumes are all about the dry down and spraying less it’s totally more with them. Jokes on you tho if you’re actually looking for a matcha fragrance because it’s not in this bottle. If you can put that aside then you’re in for a treat if the opening doesn’t punish you lol Longevity- 3/4 hours can be longer Projections- close to skin Scent profile -7/10 Purchase- Absolutely but mini only

This smelled a bit like Black Opium to me especially in the opening and dry down, I have no idea why, but it's that same kind of creamy, coffee, but not bitter type of scent with a lot of vanilla and perfume-y notes. This one does have some green notes to it, which I guess is reminiscent of matcha, but if it wasn't in the name and among the notes, I would not have thought of matcha. It's a nice fragrance, but it's too perfume-y for it to be a realistic tea or matcha scent, I really have to concentrate to smell that oat milk and matcha tea notes, and even then I wonder if I'm only smelling them because I know I should be smelling them if that makes sense.

I think the main accords and notes are pretty spot on here. If this sounds up your alley, I’d definitely recommend picking up a sample! This was my favourite of the collection and it is the perfect Spring scent. It has a creamy/powdery but the green stays front and center. The opening is pretty grassy and musky and then it becomes a touch more creamy. Won’t be a full bottle for me but I’m enjoying my sample ☺️ I lowkey enjoy it spring cleaning my house and picnics lol It opens pretty strong and stays pretty intense for about 1hr (max) then becomes creamy skin scent for like 4-5 hours.

This smells exactly like matcha 😭 It’s my favorite flanker out of the collection so far! The Latte fragrance has yet to grow on me & I’m not too crazy about the rest of the line rn. After trying on skin & clothing, I’m definitely looking forward to Mona releasing a 100 ML or even a 50 ML like she did with the Vacay in a Bottle series this summer. The longevity is alright (6 hrs) + the scent wasn’t as linear as I thought it would be. Reminded me a lil of Casamorati Dama Bianca, Prada Paradoxe Radical Essence & Ellis Brooklyn Vanilla Milk since it’s sweet, nutty, n lactonic. 7/10 :)

I like this scent because it's a cozy matcha latte and a little powdery musk - comforting, but did not think I would wear it out of the house much -- until last week. A girl walked by me at the park wearing this frag (she must have just sprayed) with a white t-shirt and really pretty matcha-colored leggings. Turns out they were Lululemon 'willow' shade b/c I asked!! She had a very natural vibe, not cluttered with bougie make-up, nails or jewelry. Her look and this scent were so ZEN CLEAN GIRL that it has really elevated the possibilities of this frag for me.

This scent is a lactonic lovers dream. Although the matcha is detectable, the oat/milk and most beautiful vanilla are the strongest to my nose. It does give off the aroma of a literal matcha latte at first then a soft serve ice cream in the dry down. Kayali nailed that. I don't necessarily pick up on the apple or coffee notes, but I do think this would be lovely layered with an apple forward fragrance. Overall, it's a soft & cozy scent that doesn't scream "perfume". It's cold where I am, but something tells me this will be even better in the spring.

At first, I really disliked this scent as after a while I could only smell this sickly sweet caramel and it reminded me of the smell of someone that has not showered in a while, but over time it changed and grew on me. Now I get a warm, spicy fragrance with a subtle touch of green. There's some matcha present, but not as much as I would have liked. That said, it's a very pleasant perfume for layering. I especially enjoy pairing it with Matcha Obsession, as it adds warmth and depth while enhancing the matcha notes.

Love 🍵 This is not a pure matcha scent, don’t expect tea room vibes. More like an L.A. girl’s order from a trendy boba shop. A matcha latte topped with frothy oat milk. Yes, there’s matcha in there, but it’s mostly sweeteners and milk. Sweet, creamy, earthy, and a little nutty. Strong with moderate lasting power. My favorite of the line up! I hope this gets released in the larger bottle!! PLEASE! ❤️❤️

This is probably my favorite in the new collection and the most original in my opinion. It's giving pleasant musky whiffs and the matcha is there from opening to drydown with some oat milk foam. Something in the background of the fragrance bothers me though (maybe the mate?), which makes me hesitant whether I want the 10ml bottle. Gonna try it out some more.

Starbucks oat milk matcha latte, with a hint of brown sugar syrup. At first spray, you can smell the grassiness of the matcha and it’s quite photorealistic. Whereas with the oat milk that settles in drying down. The floral aspects of the matcha really shine through during the dry down as well. Very beautiful fragrance from kayali

This is probably my favorite from the Freedom collection. It smells like a matcha latte -- you get some sweetness from the milk accord mixed with the green and the bitter facets of the tea. On my skin the scent is quite soft and quiet, so I wouldn't buy a full bottle but I'd maybe pick up a 10ml just to wear/sniff occasionally.

It really smells like a body wash that I have but with a boba tea note. It smells like palmolive bodywash. I asked a friend and she said taht it smells nicer than a body wash, a step up. A bit like a shampoo. there is no matcha smell. It smells a bit like boba tea though. sits really close to the skin. really creamy.

This just does exactly what it says. Green perfumey opening that kind of creates the idea of matcha instead of smelling straight up like the real stuff. Followed by a sweet oat milk dry down. Kind of reminds of a matcha late with pistachio milk.You’ll enjoy this if you’re into light milky gourmands.

Comforting, unisex, unique. A get something bright and slightly menthol-y at the opening, but it quickly dissipates. For most of the wear it's creamy and savory-- this has to be the oat but it comes across like rice steam to me (which I enjoy). The matcha imparts a little bit of green bitterness.

Very easy going matcha scent. It comes through from start to finish but it’s much brighter on initial spray! I love drinking matcha and have been looking for a scent that was more feminine than others I’ve tried. This is the perfect blend. It’s not crazy sweet and it’s not overly dry or green.
