Damascena

I first heard of Keiko Mecheri upon receiving a bonus sample of Attar de Roses. I now have 2 bottles from her line, one of them Damascena. Both completely blind buys as this niche line isn't readily available in my country & I am very impressed. I love the clean simple elegant bottle design and how it sprays. Comes out as a very fine mist which I really like. This is a soft sweet inoffensive rose, with good staying power. I spray it close to my skin i.e. similar to a body spray rather than over my clothes. This way it stays with me throughout the day and I can still smell it on my work clothes until it is laundered. It is not a powerhouse fragrance nor does it leave wafting trails a mile away. For this reason, I use it for work or where I just require a hint of that something special.

Simple as it may seem, this baby is my signature. The black currant makes Damascena a light and sophisticated scent. Though strong it is humble, though rose centered it has no ties with any other obvious rose. I am grateful to own such a beauty.

Nostalgia, as soon as I smelt this... It is just an expensive version of Rectoverso Sweety Fruity by Ulric de Varens Aquatic black currant and a dash of rosa damascena (obviously). Light, fruity but simple. I love this.

I finally got a bottle of this, even though I have worshiped it from afar for years. Its ethereal sparkling rose! leaves a light, delicate, but detectable trail for hours on skin and days on clothes. It's really a gem!

Another fairytale rose. A dark and dreamy black current & rose combo - the fruit is somewhat tart, and the rose is powdery and soft; Eventually the roses turn a bit more classic & elegant. I am occasionally reminded of "dollhead" roses! In the best way possible - slightly powdery dollheads come to mind. This is a ladylike scent, very shy and demure, as with most of Keiko Mecheri's scents! Damascena will last on the skin, but never acts bold or rude, and never reaches more than a whisper! You will enjoy Damascena if you're a big fan of nostalgia-based roses - from decades past, reminiscent of vintage lipstick & powder puffs! Feather boas, long cigarettes & sequined glamour. Even after testing dozens & dozens of rose scents, Damascena stands out as one of the most enjoyable & most comfortable to wear, albeit a little fleeting on occasion!

I would never have thought to try this if it was not for the generosity of a fellow Fragrantician. The fact the black currant is such a large note would have put me off immediately - we do NOT get along. I sprayed this on for the first time without knowing any of the notes and found it to be a juicy, fruity floral, obviously rose by the name. I was shocked when I discovered that it had that dreaded note in it. This is really pretty - a sweet, airy, lightly green but somewhat jammy rose, sweetened by berries, and a joy to wear. The longevity is decent on my perfume-eating skin, and it projects at first before settling into a cozy scent bubble. I'm considering buying a full bottle if I can find one on eBay. This was a fortunate discovery indeed! EDIT - Just purchased it!

Rose fan, so naturally wanted to check this one out. Demure rose, balmy scent with metallic cheap undertone. Someone mentioned doll head scent, yes, but everything is subdued. I also notice lilac in here (not listed). If this was more concentrated, richer in composition it would be a like. There are better rose scents outhere. I like a currant as a note but unsure if brashy metallicy scent is that note here, poorly done. It has a potential with better quality ingredients , otherwise pricewise dislike.

A tart, fruity and extremely tasty black currant opening followed by a fresh spicy rose. The perfect bliss lasts for 20 minutes and then turns to an unpleasant sour red berries and green rose. Even though that might work for some, I don't find this beautiful at all. But that's what you get when you throw in red berries in a mix without adding sweet notes to balance out the sourness. A very grown up floral fruity for sure, nothing sweet or pink. Almost cold.

Keiko Mecheri 'Demascena' is today's disappointing blind buy fragrance. I love rose, I love juicy dark berries, so I had high hopes... but this just reminds me of Yves Saint Laurent's 'Baby Doll'. There's nothing wickedly juicy or blooming with passion, it's just a very junvanile smelling spritz of rose-ish fruity Haribo.

Keiko Mecheri DAMASCENA offers a niche-quality black currant rose combination which smells really swell. The fruit is jammy and the rose is vibrant, and it all blends together extremely well. This particular perfume in the impressive rose line-up of this house would be perfect for younger perfumistas looking to move to a more sophisticated fruity floral. I am reminded slightly, but only slightly, of Annick Goutal QUEL AMOUR. The biggest different between the two is that DAMASCENA does not appear to contain any rose geranium, whereas the Goutal has probably more geranium than rose, at least according to my nose. But I do think that anyone who likes QUEL AMOUR would probably love DAMASCENA. I was surprised to find that DAMASCENA is such a fruity rose, given the name, which suggested to my mind that this would be a more stately or traditional rose. But it smells very nice and is more laid back and casual than many rose perfumes, which should be welcome news for those who shun tea rose and dowager-ready compositions. (-;

This is the first fragrance I've tried from Keiko Mecheri and I am not disappointed. In a way the beginning of the fragrance smells similar to Diptyques L'ombre Dans Leau, but there are no tomato gardens here. This fragrance is super fruity/sweet. I get a lot of berries and they stay from beginning to end. Damascena reminds me of something, I just can't quite put my finger on it. I find that one spray is good, any more might be a bit too much. Really impressed! Can't wait to try more from this line.

This is such a nostalgic scent. It strongly reminds me something from the past but i can't place it. This is definitely not a fresh rose. Not really fruity too. On my skin smells more like a lipstick. Very comforting and beautiful. Longevity and sillage high above average.

This is a big, lush red rose. It smells expensive. The dry down is similar to Loukhoum - jammy rose.
