Lady Pointe

Lady Pointe is a pleasant floral leather, with the typical powderiness of Keiko Mecheri creations. Muted and pleasant, strong but understated. The opening is slightly mentholated with a incense touch, patchouli opening strong for my tastes, bringing to mind Black Orchid. The difference is that BO opened so much stronger, slightly chocolatey, mushroomy and so patch-forward that it reminds me of, well, B.O.(body odor). While the TF was a scrubber when I tried it so long ago, Lady Pointe smells calmer and not B.O.-infused. I should try the Tom Ford again to be fair though. Lady Pointe is a great perfume that isn't too similar to anything else I have smelled, not a love for me, cause I am not that into patchouli most of the time. I am intrigued to try this again. I am a big fan of Keiko Mecheri though, I may not be able to wear every one of her perfumes, but they are all wearable, distinct, refined, and often dreamy. The drydowns are always smooth, and they all smell feminine enough for me on my skin.

There is a mistake in the release year of this perfume on here. Keiko Mecheri website says "created and released in 2006". If their website is correct, then this and Tom Ford's Black Orchid were released the same year. Question rises who copied who here. Knowing that Tom Ford has previously ripped off Serge Lutens Fille en Aiguilles with his Plum Japonais, I somehow wonder.. In regards to the scent itself this is a much more balanced and softer scent comparing to a headache inducing Black Orhid.

It smells a bit like Gucci Rush, but better. Less synthetic, more suede. I really got the black currant and musk. Sillage is very good. Perhaps not the most original composition, but beautiful nonetheless.

I got a sample of this and when I tested this for the first time I was like "hmmm this smells a lot like Black Orchid". It bothered me so much so that the next time I tested it side by side with Black Orchid. I wore Black Orchid on one wrist and Lady Pointe on the other and that proved they indeed are very similar. However, Black Orchid is richer and has more nuances especially through the opening and middle stages. The dry down is so much like Black Orchid that if I didn't knew and was blind testing I would've said that Lady Pointe was some clone house version of Black Orchid. I find it very hard to believe that the people at Keiko Mecheri weren't aware of the obvious similarities between their Lady Pointe and Tom Ford's Black Orchid when they were designing Lady Pointe so it just makes me wonder why do a copy when they could've created something unique and new? Why reinvent the wheel? So yeah, this is basically a watered down version of Black Orchid. Get Black Orchid instead.

I tried my sample today and I loved it. The thing is, I have already Black Orchid from Tom Ford and Siano from Phlur. The three of them are similar. I will put it like this, all three very strong, long lasting and rich fragrances, but if you are familiar with Black Orchid is like a you apply all three in different times of development begining withTom, after Siano and Lady Pointe at the end. So I don't think that I'm going to buy Lady. If I knew it... my first option will be Lady Pointe taking the edge of the other two and go straight for the juice. By the way, all three need just a little bit, can induce headache if over do.
