Mogador

Mogador was my first ROSE love. There were many forgettable rose fragrances before Mogador and there have been many rose centric fragrances to follow. But Mogador set the bar high and few have managed to come close to equaling its brilliance...its clarity. Strangely, given how much I love this fragrance, there really isn't a great deal to say. It almost defines linear. It smells like a roses. Beautiful, beautiful roses *sigh* They're fresh, long stemmed elegantly presented red roses and delicate pink roses, from petal top to stem bottom. Mogador is soft, uplifting, clear and very, very pretty. It certainly takes a back seat to its better known sister, Attar de Roses, here on Fragrantica. It's the late bloomer of the two, shying away from attention. It's more innocent, smelling hopeful somehow. It's the rose you receive at the beginning of a romance. One given with tenderness. It smells both like an authentic rose and slightly perfume-y at the same time. Making it perfect for every occasion. The projection? perfect for romance The longevity? longer than you would imagine given its softness. Notes-- well manicured roses (Turkish, Bulgarian, Dades) no musk no jasmine In perfumery, it seems a rose by any other name is still Mogador to me.

Fresh, summery, but somehow rich rose, MOGADOR smells just amazing, what a treat for a rose lover it is! Imagine hundreds of fresh pink roses' petals in your bathtub, in cool water, with rose-scented organic soap bars and clean, freshly ironed snow white towels all around; the windows of the very spacious luxury hotel bathroom are wide open into cool and sunny spring morning. This is what I see when I smell it. I usually love earthy roses, jammy sweet roses, spicy roses, strange roses, roses with a twist... But this is JUST ROSES in their best possible representation. Wow! I have an issue with KM's perfumes, I don't really feel them on myself, and they just don't last! However, this one is a wonderful exception. It isn't loud, but I am able to feel myself inside its fragrant cloud of roses. Amazing stuff!

This is just heavenly! A beautiful and full-bodied red rose bouquet with creamy jasmine traipsing about. As mentioned, it does open with some jammy fruits that give it a bit of a sparkling quality that I like. Later it's a blissful marriage of creamy jasmine and juicy roses. I detect no greenness or powder in this blend, which I really appreciate. It's a simple and beautiful blend that seems more on the dressy side than the casual. Perfect for day time wear when you want rich, but festive feel. A must try for those with an affinity for the rose!

Very, very pretty rose! It's sweet, truly rosy, but there's something darkening and deepening it so it's not just a pink and frilly candybox scent -- maybe it's chocolate? But bitter cacao, not a chocolate bonbon. I agree with missk that this is not a pastel rose. Mogador has far more presence than most of the KM line - often I find her perfumes pretty, tasteful, but undistinctive and wispy. Mogador is up front and center, speaking loud and clear. And what it says is ROSE.

MOGADOR – Keiko Mecheri MAGNIFICENT....rich, lush, heady, strong, smooth, velvety, sensual, fresh ROSE! Like bathing naked in a huge black marble bath filled with blood red rose petals...by candlelight. A few heady jasmine blossoms floating in the lush mix, and just a touch of unobtrusive, sensual musk to ground it all. Fresh, clean,....but somehow definitely....absolutely.....not at all innocent. Subtle, understated seduction personified.....and very, very beautiful.

I'm starting to recognize that Keiko Mecheri is the queen of roses. This house offers an abundance of distinct yet beautiful rose-centric perfumes. I keep adding new ones to my wish list, and MOGADOR is the latest member of the group. This perfume opens with rose petals strewn literally everywhere, and they are of many different colors, it seems to my nose. I don't know how this house has made so many rose perfumes with not a dowager in the bunch, but I must give credit where credit is due, to the creative director herself. MOGADOR dries down soapy but, again, it's not the hackneyed smell of rose soap or rose water. Somehow this manages to smell modern rather than dated. Reactions to soap notes vary a lot from person to person, and I do not like all of them, but this one is very appealing to me. As I find usually to be the case with soapy dry downs, this one has excellent staying power and the soap also serves to anchor the lovely rose notes, which also persist. This creation also has fairly big sillage--wow, I smell great! (-; All in all MOGADOR is a wonderful rose perfume for those who like both rose and soap.

There is an aquatic, Acqua di Gio, type of quality to this scent, but your nose has to dig up against your arm to find it... any of it, as it sits very close to the skin. And, then, Poof! Barely there after an hour. You'll struggle to find it on your wrists. Very sad how fleeting and close to the skin this is. If anyone finds a similar promise of rose, but with projection and longevity, please share the info with us. Wish this lasted because it's a girly rose.

one word: cute. this is a well-done not screeching non-offensive rose. slightly on the sweet side but well-balanced. if you are new to roses and a little sceptic good one to start with. I like my roses red, juicy and intoxicating with riches in the background - but it is only me :)

Rich and lovely rose on the musky background and something very calming like black tea.

I have now amassed six bottles from Keiko Mecheri perfume house in the last five months . Such an impressive perfume house and not well known , here in Australia but I prefer niche perfumes to mass appreciated perfumes . Over the years I noticed I’m not a fan of rose soliflores. I find rose scents extremely powerful and intense on my skin and nose however , as I’m sampling KM range I decided to try Mogador. This is a rich rose scent with a touch of Jasmine , possibly sambac . It’s smooth , fresh and powerful with hints of spice , not sure why but it’s exists throughout . I don’t get soapy, powdery, fruity nuances from the roses ( as some reviewers mention ) just spice which I’m not really fond of. It’s relatively concentrated and one of the better rose fragrances I have smelt because of its greener/ fresh composition . On my skin it’s silage is moderate and I prefer quiet performers , not loud , offensive ones . But it’s a powerful scent despite its silage . Lasting power is enormous ! Goes to show how different fragrances react on our skin cause I don’t get fleeting or poor longevity as some reviewers mention . Rose scents seem to outperform on my skin .

Not my favourite house style (Mecheri can be bright and sunny, but are rarely original or bombastic) or my favoured notes (rose & I are not always on the best of terms, and the treatments I do prefer tend more towards spicy/dusky rather than dewy/watery), so to damn it with faint praise: perfectly wearable & bearable anonymous citric-watery freshness that's fair enough for a clear spring day when you wish to smell clean but unmemorable. For me it just evokes generic floral laundry freshener on a just-washed load of sheets - mildly pleasant, but nothing more distinctive than that. Definitely won't offend and it does have a sense of honesty and straightforwardness. Still absolutely nothing special... in my view only, of course. Rose fans and those who love airy wafty girliness may warm to it far more.

This is a genuine smelling rose. I can smell jasmine from the beginning combined with a clean, moderately soapy musk that gives the rose a tang. It's not at Chloe's level of soapiness, but there's still too much soap for me, I'm afraid.

I cannot believe there are no reviews on this beautiful fragrance. Out of all the scents I've reviewed in the last few days, Mogador is most worthy of a hundred rave reviews. This fragrance was my first encounter with Keiko Mecheri's astounding fragrance line. It made perfect sense for me to try Mogador first due to my search for the perfect rose fragrance. Mogador certainly comes close. The scent is mostly rich, jammy roses with a touch of fruitiness. Mogador is smooth, feminine and powerful. An absolutely delicious rose blend. Particularly in the opening, Mogador smelt a little chocolatey, like chocolate smoothered Turkish Delight to be exact. I wanted to devour it and experience its taste as well as its scent. Red roses is what I perceive here. This isn't delicate pink, yellow or white roses, this is strong, tarty rose with an element of darkness. There are hints of spice every now and then, however it is not what carries this composition. Some other reviews I've read say that this fragrance becomes soapy and powdery in the drydown. I have to disagree, because this did not happen for me. It stays relatively concentrated throughout, a soliflore, a rich red rose until the very end. The lasting power is amazing, as can also be said of the sillage. I highly recommend to all rose lovers and niche enthusiasts.

Unfortunately I will have to go against the stream here. With a name like this - I thought (and hoped) that Mogador would be intense, impulsive, heady, brooding, memorable, oriental rose, instead it is what the reviews here describe: cute and calming, pleasant, pretty, fruity, non-offensive. Interestingly I seem to have this experience with Keiko Mecheri's fragrances - either I fall madly in love with them and find them incredibly long lasting too, or they leave me quite indiferent and also disapear very quickly. The opening of Mogador made me briefly believe that this one will belong to the first category, however, on me the scent very quickly fades into light, sort of generic rose and mere few minutes later I struggle to smell anything at all. I have experienced similar initial infatuation with another Keiko Mecheri's rosy creation - Damascena, but in her case that feeling has only grown stronger and easily turned into love(even though that rose is "just" pretty, feminine and fruitied too). Shame, but Mogador will remain just a fleeting memory for me. :-)

Mogador is the perfect rose fragrance for me. It is like lying on a bed of 4 different types of roses and breathing in the nuances of each rose, the freshness, the delicacy and ultimately the spicy notes that arise from the mixture of roses and geranium or carnation and warm golden saffron. The final drydown is amazing and lasts on my skin for a good 10 hours. A stunning fresh peach note emerges to mix with the rose and jasmine in a most delicious way. When I first tried a sample of this fragrance I was concerned that it was very short lived, but now that I am spraying from a full bottle that problem is thankfully gone. I can fully appreciate the depth and beauty of this fragrance for hours after spraying.

Unusually for myself - as a devoted amateur of Keiko Mecheri compositions and a huge fan of roses - this one is very "average", will join here Gosha's review and one of HanamiTsukimi. Soapy, musky jasmine with only hint of rose. I waaaay prefer Attar de Roses, - lush, creamy, rich and intense. Also jeca got that strange tanginess of green tea leaf like - I also can smell it. Didn't expect it will not impress me much, I hoped for totally different rose-story, not an aquatic one.

First try: Opens soapy(bitter) rose on a pleasantly greenish, musky backdrop. The soapiness evaporates leaving beautiful, rich roses in the heart. The backdrop develops a dark, spicy (something savory, not dessert spices. maybe cumin?) quality which is just as beautiful and rich as the rose. The harmony is so smooth and appealing, it's hard to believe it's a construct.

I'm a fan of Keiko Mechieri but find her perfumes "to this" or "too that" to commit to buying. This is probably the best one I've come across. It is a wonderful, full on, quality fume, to begin with. Rose and jasmine, a classic mix, but done elegantly and seamlessly. This fume is what you would wear with a black evening dress. But unfortunately it doesn't last...

At first, strong roses like Rose Absolue (Goutal) burst off. As time goes by, sharp green jasmine with a watery scent somewhat reminds me of rubber, hair wax, or hair spray. and It also has roses and musk. A shampoo-like or a soap-like scent. Sometimes I'm fine with it, but sometimes I hate it.

I had high hopes for this fragrance. It's a pretty enough rose, not as heavy as I had imagined, more of a lighter "wine"-y rose. But...there is no sillage! And it doesn't last at all. In about an hour and a half it had disappeared from my skin. Very disappointing.
