Un Jour d'Ete

Oh, this one's really great! I adore the beach cocktail combination of coconut and citrus as a perfume concept, at least when it's done right, and it definitely is in Un Jour d'Eté: just as sparkling and delicious as in Virgin Island Water, but richer and with more depth. And the salty ambergris gives it a twist that makes it very special, instead of just another summer cocktail. It's a suprising element and it can be too much when over-applied; on my first sampling I was taken aback by it when it joined the edible notes a few minutes in - it kind of felt like my seaside idyll was being ruined by a beached whale spending its last dying strength to pee in my cocktail. Luckily, I soon learned to spray this one lightly, and balance was restored - in fact, I think the contrast is a big part of the beauty now. This is going straight onto my wish list - this fascinating vacation in a bottle will be perfect for less than perfect summer days spent in the office. It lasts for quite a few hours with good projection as well, so it's sure to brighten that kind of day to no end.

This is a beautiful, creamy, summery scent with a tropical twist. Rather linear, but that does not make me love it less, because I love the opening! Citrus, coconut and light floral notes so delicious! Strong sillage for starters up to an hour, then it gets softer. Longevity is good with 5+ hours. Nothing complicated, yet beautifully composed. ♥♥♥♥♥

Keiko Mecheri has a tough time doing wrong in my perfume book, because she uses excellent ingredients, many of which are natural, and she also has good taste. My confidence in her aesthetic judgment was further confirmed upon receiving some long-coveted full bottles in their stunning packaging. I love the bottles so much that I'm tempted to pose as a retailer to see whether they'll sell me the complete collection wholesale. Okay, that's a bit of a fantasy on my part. In reality, I'm on the look out for the best of the bunch housed in these newer, clear bottles to add to my line-up! UN JOUR D'ETE reminds me a bit of Lolita Lempicka L FLEUR DE CORAIL. There is a salty-sweet snack-at-the-seashore vibe to this creation. It's a casual perfume and only lightly floral. Some people may be frightened away by the note "monoi" listed in the hierarchy for this fragrance, but the monoi is very, very light, so this smells nothing like full-fledged monoi perfumes and oils. Instead, UN JOUR D'ETE offers a pleasant excursion to the beach. In some ways, it reminds me of Bond no 9 CONEY ISLAND--only without the cocktails. This is more like kettle corn at the beach than margaritas and ice cream cones at Coney Island. I like this creation, although it's not as profound as some of the perfumes of this house. It's definitely in the running among the clear bottle contenders, but I might like ISLES LOINTAINES more...

Oooh, I'm liking this one. Un Jour d'Ete is such a lovely citrus floral. The citrus in the opening (I notice the bergamot mostly) is so gorgeously blended. The coconut note isn't obvious to me but it's just there below the surface, adding richness and creaminess to the scent (I don't get any of the "sunscreen" vibe that others have mentioned). I wouldn't describe this as a beachy perfume though it's definitely a great choice for Summer. The longevity is weak, unfortunately. It doesn't last more than 1-2 hours on my skin which is so frustrating because I want more, more, more! Sillage is soft to moderate. Despite the poor longevity, I would still love a full bottle of this unique, beautiful fragrance (on the WANTED list it goes!).

Received this as a sample with KMs other scentt purchase. I find this to be sexy and attractive scent, for evening ocassions. Strong stuff, Leather, musk, suntan lotion, sure I guess jasmine and coconut well blended I cannot distiguish a specific note. It is done well. I actullay wore this for a Rock concert. I swear it's an evening edgy perfume. It has power to it, name "Summer day", more like summer night out in a leather jacket. Edgy and pleasant scent. Ended up wearing it few nights out later again, it's perfect. Bada** perfume. Surprisingly it does last 4-5 hours and wears on clothes longer. Keiko's perfumes are from different time, back 90s-early 2000, well done, superb quality!!!

White floral (jasmine) with coconut mainly. Amber and slight citrus are detectable as well. There's supposed to be patchouli in here listed too which comes up shortly after application. This is elegant and somewhat mature scent, anywhere from 20's and on wearable.

I don't know if my decant is mislabeled? I don't get tropical beach coconut. I smell LOTS of musk. Musk central with florals and wood in the drydown.

These are the notes according to the Keiko Merchari website: LEMON SICILIA • PETITGRAIN • MANDARINE • FLORAL ACCORD AROMATIC NOTES • AMBER NOTES • WHITE MUSK It doesn’t say anything about ambergris, coconut, jasmine although it may contain some of these. I don’t think it has coconut but it does have something mildly creamy in the background. There seems to be a lot of well blended fragrances from this house making the notes difficult to pick apart. I actually think the smoothness that can come across like almond or coconut is actually the musk. In some of her creations like Isles Loîntaines and Datura Blanche there is that creamy DNA locseizsueza mentioned. Of course those fragrances actually have almond notes to actually enhance that smooth musky DNA making them even more round and lactonic than this one. The smell of this house is a perfume-y one but a modern perfume-y smell. I get mostly a lot of uplifting citrus, petitgrain, and a lot of rich clean musk. It’s quite a clean soapy smell to me with that creamy DNA which keeps this from being like house cleaner or hairspray but rather glossy and soft. This house seems very sophisticated like Keiko Merchari herself. She’s rich, educated, effortlessly beautiful due to great genes. She’s the beautiful mature woman in the art gallery or Nobu because that’s her natural environment. Pointing any of this out to her would only make her uncomfortable because she’s never known anything else. She’s not stuffy, stately, or dated though. She’s incredibly modern and cool. This house and houses like Ormonde Jayne and Jovoy (and of course Tom Ford) just scream “mature, cultured, woman with her sh*t togetherr” to me. The woman we all want to be when we grow up. All that being said this fragrance is nice but it’s nothing to write home about. It was only $50 so I feel that’s incredibly inexpensive for a lovely niche house.

The differing opinions on this one are intriguing. Maybe its just my masculine combination oily/dry skin but I don't really detect any noticeable coconut in this very fresh and floral uplifting fragrance. The notes listed on Keiko Mecheri's own website are: Sicilian lemon, petitgrain, mandarine, floral accord, aromatic notes(?), amber notes(?) and white musk. I did expect (and hope for) a decent amount of coconut based on the reviews here, but for me this is all about jasmine (one of my favorite notes) and very juicy citrus top/mid notes, followed by a healthy dose of musky woods in the dry down base. Although it's not comprised of very unique notes, it's done in such a careful and beautiful way that I do find the overall feeling to be unique for this type of fragrance. There's a salty edge to this (similar to Creed's Millseme Imperial, which this vaguely sort of reminds me of) which I guess can only come from either the non-specific aromatics or amber notes. Despite my disappointment at the missing coconut, I really do like this and each time I wear it I find that I like it more and more. The gorgeous bottle presentation just adds to the overall positive feeling I have towards this one. It truly uplifts my mood each time.

I am generally a fan of Keiko Mecheri's fragrances. This is warm and lovely, definitely reminscent of a summer's day. I do get the salt, but this is not a beach scent for me- I hardly smell the coconut at all. For me it is a hay, grassy, woodsy scent with summer warmth from the jasmine and the ambergris. I picture people playing frisbee in a park with warm sun shining down, dogs running around and the sea far below down a bluff. I could have sworn I smelled regular amber in this scent, in fact quite a lot of it at the beginning. In its opening notes this reminds me of another niche fragrance, but I can't quite put my finger on it now. I will add to my review if I recall it later. This is well done and quite nice. I will enjoy my sample,but I don't think this is worth a full bottle, IMHO.

As a lover of very feminine florals, I was thrilled to smell this at first spray! It is a bit beachy, as per the minute coconut and monoi. The jasmine is enough to make it elegant. Then a "Hermes Eau Claire des Merveilles-thing" begins to happen and I sense that this fragrance is not just about sitting on the shore drinking a Piña Colada! Yes, I'm speaking of Ambergris, which wafts its saltiness and draws me to into the waves... If it ended there, this adventure would be FB-worthy. Alas, the drydown yields a walk out of the ocean and into the...woods?! On me, they take over a scent that was feminine and elegant. In the end, I'm left with men's aftershave and a beautiful memory of my 1/2 hour at the beach. Sigh.

Un Jour d'Ete is the beach vibe scent with a more sophisticated feel. This isn't your typical Pina colada/Tommy Bahama beach party type fragrance. Un Jour d'Ete is the kind of fragrance you wear sitting on a beach front patio with a few friends watching the sunset while sipping a nice glass of wine. Off my skin I get all the notes at various times with Ambergris Coconut and Musk being most prominent. This isn't a screamer off my skin but longevity and sillage are both above average. You can pick up a 2.5oz for $50 and for that price it's a steal. I highly recommend give this beauty a sniff.

A salty, fruity scent that is unfortunately a little one-dimensional. The citrus elements and white florals add an interesting element to the scent, however, it suffers from being that one note, and the note isn't all the interesting, too. It's also a little muted, too. I feel the white floral could've been amped up somewhat, to the point where it would come across as a bubblegum kinda scent, but nonetheless, I'm not sure what else could be done to dress this up. I don't think all the ingredients in the list work together, to tell you the truth. It's not bad, it's just not spectacular...

This is somehow retro but still modern with an elegance and class that are not from this world - à la Keiko;) It is not a sun tan lotion smell at all. It's neither fresh nor heavy. I get minimal to no coconut or I am just imagining it. It is all about ambergris and animal musk, a creamy woody citrus-aldehyde and petitgrain. In the dry-down some shy white flowers come finely through. While it isn't loud, it lasts for hours and you will not go unnoticed. You don't smell this but a few times in your life because not many can pull it through. Not complicated but pretentious, beautiful!

Un Jour d'Ete opens with freshly applied sunscreen and slightly bitter citrus/petitgrain, which quickly smooths out into a sun warmed, jasmine/coconut scented sunscreen scent. Ambergris and musk add a touch of salted skin underneath. Unfortunately the overall effect really just smells like a slightly scented sunscreen to me. Not a bad smell, just not the perfume for me.
