Solis

I just want to talk about this perfumes performance, @Jimmystinks, you are not the first person to slate it's performance but I personally think it performs very well and my experience mirrors the votes here. This is what I think maybe the case: 1. It's undergone a significant reformulation, possible because Kemi Kemi has (I own both formulations). 2. People are expecting something that projects hard for the duration (it doesn't). If I use 3 sprays on my neck, it projects intensely for the first 2-3 hours, I can smell it on every breath without going nose blind at all, it can be almost overwhelming. Once it dries down it's like wearing a heavy cloak, every time I move my head I catch a thick dense waft of that incredible benzoin/vanilla with the most natural wood note I can think of. I woke up this morning 12 hours after spraying and was still enjoying the drydown, the vanilla was still animaic and woody.

Opening is very unique, imagine a fruity/herbal schnapps with purple candies in it. It drys down completely differently into benzoin (smells just like my essential oil), vanilla, creamy chai and a light cedar type oud. It's like a much higher quality Ivory Route without it's synthetic perfumy edge and much more interest.

Interesting composition but not nearly as weird as I was hoping. I can detect the artemisia but it isn’t as prominent as Amouage Memoir Man, for example. It has a caramel vibe on my skin and mostly what I get is a dry-sweet-vaguely herbal blend. No oud, no real woody or vetiver facets. The amber must be a sweet style because thankfully the composition isn’t powdery or petroleum. It’s soft on performance which is a let down but I think this could be a real crowd-pleaser. While that isn’t normally a compliment from me: something about Solis is charming and comforting. Scent: 6/10 I wanted something far more memorable for this note breakdown and in the end it comes off more generic than I would like both stylistically and especially for the cost. Projection: 3/10 I was at least hoping for a big push off the skin but it is low to the body from start to finish. Sillage: 3/10 at first it is volitile enough to leave a train behind you but it settles down quickly, within the first thirty minutes. Longevity: 5/10 I get five hours of real use before it’s so close to the body that it ahould be reapplied for my tastes. Not terrible but not what I hoped. Would I buy another bottle? No I wouldn’t. While this is a nice scent and it is comforting, it only stands out as a higher quality version of your “Bleu’s and Such” which if you want to complete your collection of crowd-pleaser generics: this is the apex. If you want something more from this note list and this price: this may not satisfy. Ill wear my bottle until it’s gone and that will probably, be the end of it.

Aaaaaaah... a beloved blend. This is a variation of "kemi" from the same brand as I can sense the animalic caramelized fruit wrapped in the most sensual pinkish satin sheets and within the animalic frame. It's extremely impossible that the notes above are presenting this imaginative "solis"! I can smell caramel, peaches, violets, soap, castoreum, bubbles, musk, cranberries, and candy. Very captivating and charming for a caramel blend, it's more complex than simple. Edit (31st Jan 2018) the sweetness in here is like a tropical fruit punch with an animalic note of amber, oud, cedar, & castoreum. It has a bright fruits as the sweet factor with bits of vanilla blended with animalic. It is fine.

A beautiful and soft ambery Oud with herbal accents. The perfume begins with notes of Oud and herbal artemisia and moves to a brief middle of cedar and vetiver before settling down into a powdery base of amber, vanilla and benzoin. This is a bright and delicate Oriental concoction. It radiates simple pure energy just like the sun it is named after. Unisex, with moderate sillage and good longevity. Unique and radiating brightly without overpowering the wearer. Enjoy!

Starts off with a strong fruity, bubblegum smell which doesn't match the notes. The drydown is more herbal and woody. Definitely a "try before you buy" fragrance, some will love it, others will hate it. Longevity and projection were both fairly strong for me.

I’m surprised that nobody has compared this to BDK’s Rouge Smoking. It’s very similar in the top and mid, but arguably higher quality.

Long lasting, unusual sweet perfume with good projection. The kemi bottle is beautiful.

#1308 in my "Tour de Fragrance" Got this as a decant. The acquisition of Kemi Blending Magic by Xerjoff hasn't turned out to be a travesty like L'Oreal's acquisition of Thierry Mugler, wherein the idiots at L'Oreal immediately discontinued every world-beating scent Mugler made, while keeping "Alien", which compared to the A*Men flankers is complete shit. Xerjoff instead transitioned a number of absolutely world-class Kemi scents to the Xerjoff line. "Solis" was not one of the scents that was brought into the Xerjoff lineup intact. And while you can still find bottles of Solis on eBay at scalper prices, I would warn any and all against anything being shipped from outside of the country as the Chinese counterfeits are all over eBay, and eBay is notorious for doing nothing to curb the fraud or respond to complaints. Solis is not a particularly complex scent, and not one of Kemi's best efforts, which I suspect is why Xerjoff didn't keep it. And there are many scents that adequately fill the hole its discontinuation leaves. Thameen "Carved Oud", Maison Alhambra "Zaffiro Collection Crafted Oud", Tiziana Tirenzi "Laudano Nero", Zoologist "Camel", Al Haramain "Black Oud", Vertus "Oud Noir", Ormonde Jayne "Black Gold", Clive Christian "V for Men", 24's "24 Gold Oud Edition." You can spend a little or a lot and get something that works quite as well as this or better. The Solis opening comes off a bit sweet, though the notes list nothing that would give it that quality, though sometimes I get that when benzoin, amber and vanilla combine. The dry down is more the dirty-sweaty variety of agarwood, and I do know women who find that attractive. While this hangs on through lunch, initial projection is short-lived. So it's safe for any environment as only someone at intimate range is likely to notice it. For me that makes this definitely not worth the $180- $300 you'd pay for this on eBay, even if you got the genuine article, as for that price you can get any of the scents I've listed above, including the Clive Christian. So I'll pass on this. You should do the same.

Kemi Blending Magic. The magic comes from the very quick disappearing act the fragrance pulls off. It's ok, well blended, boozy to start, feel there's patchouli in there, very much a skin scent. I've been coming back to it over the past week, having a spray here and there ... the other day I thought "blimey I keep getting lovely whiffs" I thought it had lasted and was giving back solidly all day ... however, I pinned down what those whiffs reminded me of ... I put Montabaco on a few days before and it was that coming off a hoodie I wore earlier in week. So back to original thought ... its worse than 4711 in longevity and silage

I largely agree with the reviews below. It’s a (dirty ish) oud, benzoin and vanilla centered frag which has a green (read herby) and unusual fruity tone in the top and mid notes. Reminds me of a less honeyed APLS by Francis Kurkdijian; and is definitely a try-before-you-buy type fragrance. Got a 100ml bottle which has been sprayed once I’d like to sell off. Give me a shout if interested. EDIT: This grew on me after a while. I finished up the bottle a short while ago.

Beautiful oud benzoin and vanilla with Cedar and light smoky vetiver. The artemisia keeps this from being to dark and gives it a herbal tone however I believe it adds to its gourmand effect overall a beautiful perfume

Why Xerjoff discontinued this line? its really bad
